The tracing wheel is used in conjunction w tracing paper, a parchment-like paper that has a colored wax coating on one side. You place tracing paper on your fabric, color side down, then place the pattern over it. Using the tracing wheel to trace the lines of the pattern, you transfer a dotted line of color to the fabric. The paper came in various colors, like markings pencils do today. For some reason, the tracing wheels are still part of sewing kits, but i haven’t seen tracing paper in decades. 🧐
While I agree with you that you don’t have to run out and buy everything to start sewing. I wouldn’t call any of the things you listed unnecessary. (except maybe all the fancy sewing feet, those are out of control sometimes 😂) These are all just situational based on what you are sewing, the type of fabric, and individual preferences.
I respectfully disagree concerning the usefulness of thimbles. I exclusively hand sew, a thimble allows both speed of stitching and endurance with any thickness of fabric. The pinpoint bruising from pushing the needle for hours without protection can put you out of commission for days.
Excellent video!

0:42 I think that they require tracing paper to use, right? I never use them though either, lol.
