One of the most popular photos from Balmain’s last collection didn’t focus on any of my designs: it was a shot of Rihanna, seated next to me at the after-party, and she looked amazing in her transparent top.
Was I jealous? Of course not-I was inspired!
From the strong and sexy images of my childhood-famous ‘90s supermodels, “Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty,” Madonna in her “Erotica” moment-to that night’s often-re-posted photo, it’s easy to see that my generation's popular culture has been dominated by one long, uninterrupted line of beautiful, confident women, proud of their bodies and unafraid to explore sensuality and transparency.
You have to admire the way so many of these stars manage to turn the tables on censorship. They can’t be banned. We search for unbleeped videos, hashtag to free closed Instagram accounts and google photos unmarred by thick black bands. Their creations and public images celebrate today’s refreshingly honest and upbeat sexuality-and they have been a major inspiration for this collection, pushing me channel their spirit into fluid transparent layers, surprising exposures of skin and unexpected touches of clear plastic. The often bright and optimistic spirit of their pop creations can be seen in this collection’s sharp tailoring, bold colors and unusual graphic mixes.

Honestly, this collection is so refreshing. Love the geometric shapes and fabrics, the shimmer, the tightness and the "transparent look" details. Its so minimalistic and futuristic in a way, but at the same time it reminds me of the 50's with the style of the shirt and the 70's/80's of the crazy color combination. Especially the pants with all the colors and lines combining with the movement thanks to the drapery, it looked like a lollipop. Loved itttttt
