I am currently taking this subject at my university and my professor didn't bother to explain what linear algebra is for, she just went on teaching matrices immediately. Watching that milk and OJ example and then the plane intersections made me realize how much I will miss out if I just listened to my professor and don't watch videos like these. Thank you!
I found this channel in my freshman chemistry class because the chemistry classes provided to electrical engineers sucks here and now as I'm about to graduate I'm still leaning on this man for education lol
Thanks man. I am choosing the electives for my studies and I was considering linear algebra among others. Your video explained it to me perfectly, thank you
That is why I have taken to self-studying from books and videos taught by other teachers. I watch tutorials by various tutors, as they all have their own styles of teaching.
Might have gone to a good school, so they just assumed you'd figured it out with your superior brain. It's a lot of elitism that results in non-generalizable teaching
You make AMAIZING super clear videos that just saved me at math course in uni. Unfortunately I can`t find any lessons of yours about direction - slope field and differential equatations... If you haven`t, it would be extremely cool if you made some ^^
hello, would you mind solving these 2 problems? Exercise 0.3 Find the equation of the line obtained by reflecting the line 2x+ 3y = 6 in the line y = x . Describe the relationship between the slopes of the original and the reflected lines. Exercise 0.4 Find the equation of the line obtained by rotating the line 2x + 3y = 6 ninety degrees anticlockwise about the origin. Describe the relationship between the slopes of the original and the rotated lines. thanks
So that's why my dad took so long to buy the milk and didn't come back for 10 years... All jokes aside, this was a necessary refresher, I want to advance to matrices and find out what's the big deal about them.
I’m taking Linear Algebra next semester. If both a line and plane can yield infinite many solutions, wouldn’t the infinity describing the plane be greater than the infinity describing the line????? Some infinities are bigger than others?
Yes, because a plain is a 3D object, right? Some infinities are definitely infinitely bigger than others, although it does self-contradict it’s self because nothing is bigger than infinity - it’s just a concept for the purpose of mathematics. But a plain extends beyond the realm of 2d, so it is infinite two realms? Two infinites are better than one. My brain hurts.
I hate to say it but I'm stymied on the steps it takes to get to the answer in the comprehension question. I've tried it several different ways but I always end up with a zero in each line in a different spot and it seems to preclude doing anything further. My guess is that I am doing some row operations that aren't legal but I checked it over and over and they all seem to be multiplying a row by something or adding and subtracting them in some way. I tried to work backwards from the answer and that didn't help either.
@@ProfessorDaveExplains holy crap i didn't think you would reply on such an old video. But do you think its okay for someone to take linear algebra with no knowledge of calculus? I'm pretty nervous about it
Honestly I don't think you are learning linear algebra, that is done after calculus. You are probably learning how to solve two equations with two unknowns, that sort of thing. That's learned in high school algebra. I wouldn't worry about it.
@@ProfessorDaveExplains okay it turns out you're right, my college advisor just said linear algebra but it's actually just college algebra, which I assume is a more difficult version of high school algebra.
First video i see from this channel, all good, nice and simple way of explain the content. The only thing bad, very bad, is the use of that stupid units system, please use the international standar metric system. Is way, way better. Usa system is crap in many ways, please push to change that!
Sir plzzzz answer my question "why vectors are represented as rays and y not curves, lines?"really want to know the answer I didn't understand the answer in many websites hope u would clear it!
a vector has finite magnitude and specific direction, curves don't have a specific direction as they curve, and lines don't have magnitude as they extend infinitely in both directions, so they are totally different mathematical constructs.

Found this 1 day before my end of year exam, turned my 30% into a 60% overnight. Brilliant series.
lol i have the final tomorrow and i'm watching this now

this is the best free course on linear algebra PERIOD!!!!1
Why did my teacher just skip over all this.
Bad teacher
That is why I have taken to self-studying from books and videos taught by other teachers. I watch tutorials by various tutors, as they all have their own styles of teaching.
Because its not highschool material
They want you to know what you’re getting into BEFORE YOU SIGN UP. I know it’s stupid but they perceive it as wasting their time.

Thanks for this perfect explanation ..... best professor ever
It is very easy to understand , especially the milk and OJ part :)
Thank you Professor - from one of your students on the other side of the planet.
I hope u can upload ABSTRACT ALGEBRA coz ur really are a great teacher

Thanks for great explanation :)
It is very interested here
It has helped me a lot ❤
i watch you channel like my fav tv show
Thanks so much for the wonderful explanations!!
Thanks for very helpful videos
Hey Dave, looking over your videos for some ideas for lectures. Why are the videos near the end of the Linear Algebra playlist made private?
i release one per week, don't worry they'll be available soon!
Very informative.
probably best intro song

Thank you

Can you make a series on Abstract algebra (Modern Algebra) more specifically cosets and isomorphisms
You are brilliant professor thank you, can you recommand a book with this cronology of courses and informations. Thank you for the seconde one.
good stuff

got it, thx
wait... what are the previous portions of the series ?
Professor dave has a whole math playlist, including basic elementary level math, algebra, calculus, linear algebra, etc.

very important 10 minutes indeed
Preparing for my comprehensive exam and it will be on two days before this. I hope I can everything here :((
Hello 😀
Long live sir
What's a parameter?
Thank thou math jesus
What does it help in real life situation
great
I haven't had a lot of time to study advanced math and I'm embarrassed to say that I thought linear algebra came before calculus.
well linear algebra doesn't require calculus, so it could, but it's quite hard and abstract so it's always taught after calculus
@@ProfessorDaveExplains That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
Me watching this in while in pre calculus course for no reason
I hate to say it but I'm stymied on the steps it takes to get to the answer in the comprehension question. I've tried it several different ways but I always end up with a zero in each line in a different spot and it seems to preclude doing anything further.
My guess is that I am doing some row operations that aren't legal but I checked it over and over and they all seem to be multiplying a row by something or adding and subtracting them in some way. I tried to work backwards from the answer and that didn't help either.
For example if I do R2-R3 to get new 2nd row, then 2R1+R2 to get new 1st row, then I've got:
0 5 2 16
-2 3 0 6
4 0 5 2
Now what?
Why am I learning this before I take calculus 1 for college if it's supposed to be after calculus? Should I talk to someone about changing it?
Well it's common to learn the very basics of systems of linear equations in algebra 2, including basics regarding matrices.
