Of course Shelly winters is annoying in this. She plays the character brilliantly- a broken psyche so desperate she’ll do anything or be with anyone to get her happy ending. She appears without morals but it’s just because she’s so broken. I think she made an ordinary film extra good. Where the hell did the other woman come from? Martha? She wasn't stunning. Ask a man. I've seen her early publicity pics. I'm not hating on her, I just don't get her appeal as an actress and she certainly wasn't a looker. Compare her to other beautiful actresses from the era and you'll see how she doesn't fit and was not even close to being in their tier as far as looks. And note how she looked as she aged. Other actresses still look like they used to be beautiful in their heyday while Winters looks like she'd be Roseanne's mother, a role she played.
Shelly Winters was beautiful when she was younger. Pity that she got paid in pasta for a commercial she did and that she and her room mates at the time ate all that pasta because money was tight. It was NOT done to intentionally upset the viewers. And it's nearly inconceivable that the poster, any poster, of the movie would do such a thing.
p.s. I very much enjoyed the story, the acting, the settings and the great location photography, so it saddens me to observe a seemingly endless pissing match over Shelley Winters' appeal or talent, yet primarily, her unavoidable-to-ignore, difficult to digest dangerous and unsightly weight gain.
@@scvandy3129 The owners of UA-cam movie channels are, or should be, well aware that chopping up movies does nothing to avoid a copyright strike, any more than the other stupid tricks that have been tried will do. UA-cam has long since used computer programs that search the content for copyright infringements. Even tricks that make movies literally unwatchable don't escape the software.
Now AI, or artificial intelligence, is used, which is even more sensitive, 1000 times as sensitive. And all channel owners know that, so I find it impossible to believe they think this will help them. I think they mistakenly think that people want this. And I think they never read the comments to find out if they are right. But since commenting is all that we can do, I guess we can only continue.
They need to realize that although some info from the opening credits is repeated in the closing ones, there are some facts that are only stated once, in the opening or closing, so we need them both to get all the info.
@@cattymajiv I won't complain about being able to watch a good quality movie for free.
SHELLEY is so annoying!
waynemahler2455. Shelly W. annoying yes! Now there's an excellent, convincing actress!
I've never been able to stand Shelly Winters. She's always been Too Loud and Pushy in my opinion.
I agree about her being too loud & pushy (or aggressive), but she was GREAT (as well as a very young Peter Sellers) in "Lolita!" ☀
@@poppykok5x2! Also in Night of the Hunter and A Place in the Sun.
A friendly Hello,'63MGB1'...I admit to having a quite a long list of favorite old films, 😊but ironically, "Night of the Hunter' & "A Place in the Sun" are longtime definite parts of my "list!" HaHaHa...
@@poppykok5 I could never be like that, although several times I was accused of it, mostly by my manipulative husband. But not wanting to be loud and pushy, I am very grateful that women like that exist!
They say what we feel unable to say, to the benefit of us all! They paved the way for us, making it acceptable for us to also express our opinions. If it weren't for women like Shelley, we would all still be trapped in a world where women were supposed to keep our mouths shut. So even though I don't want to be seen as she is, I'm so grateful to her, and women like her.
I'm also grateful to the movie executives, all men in those days, who allowed and encouraged vocal women like her and Bette Davis to speak up. As much as I hate to say this, if those men had not allowed those women to be seen on screen, we would still be living in the repressive society of yesterday.
So I send a big thank you to all the women like Shelly and Bette!
We are all human, and we are all different. Shelly was nominated for the Academy Award four times, and won twice ~ back when 'Oscar" actually meant something.
thought i'd give you a try but all you want is money from ads, don't watch ppl, full of ads every ten minutes!!!!
Google (UA-cam) makes that happen- not the channel producer
I didn't see any ads at all on my Kindle. On my TV I would have. It really isn't the channel.
An add blocker sorts all that out.
sorry for your,,,loss ad block maam
Night of the hunter.
O and the one with Elizabeth Taylor..
A place in the Sun
Montgomery Clift
Such a movie. So dramatic!!
Who is this Martha lady? Why is she so interested. Does she have a past with him? She knows too much. She gives him bad advice. Hard to believe he's just passing through on some University assignment. He killed the dog 👎
She was a friend of Katherine. However the writers do not have to write every detailed. It wasn’t important for the movie.
No, he didn't.
