I revisited the arkham series late last year (cause I felt like it) and beat them all (including origins for the first time) this is what I thought. Do you guys think the arkham series has aged well, and which one in the series is the overall best to you?
Most definitely. While each game did have its flaws, the Arkham games were really good. I'm playing them again right now

I think this is a prime example of going back and playing a game (in particular Arkham Knight) once all the hype whether negative or positive has simmered and just allowing yourself to play the game for what it is and enjoying it. I had a similar experience with Kane and Lynch

Arkham City was the first of the series I ever played. It was also one of the first games I got through PS Plus. To this day, it's still one of the best games ever offered through the service. The whole time I was playing it I kept reminding myself that it was "free". Felt like I had stole something. lol

When it comes to the combat... it fits so damn well for The Batman! God, these trilogies really set the standard for actual superheroes games having the potential to be outstanding.

I'm glad Origins is getting love. It's a solid game that works well with what it had. The only issue it had was the bad glitches when it launched. I'll take the Deathstroke boss fight from that game over the lazy tank fight in Arkham Knight any day.

Just replayed all of the Arkham games (including the underrated Origins) on Steam Deck, some of the greatest action adventure games of all time.

I loved the video, and I love batman and spider-man both. At 8:31, you said that spider-man's hit feel light, and that is true because spider-man holds back A LOT on his attacks otherwise he will end up killing people left and right.
Knight was my favorite. I loved the batmobile. Its impressive how rocksteady nailed the driving mechanics on their first attempt, athough I had to get used to the questionable button mapping. The audio design for the batmobile was great too, I liked driving the dlc dark knight batmobile. The tank combat was fun imo especially when you utilize all of its gadgets to make combat sections quicker.. the only critigue I agree with about the batmobile was they shouldn't have used it for the boss fights like deathstroke. I would love a remaster of that arkham knight with ray tracing and 60 frames, and the batman 2022 skins and batmobile.
I replayed this series last year too, and I agree, this games have aged really well, they're still as great as I remember them. Replaying them reminded me of the fact that these games made me fall in love with gaming. If not for the Arkham Series, I highly doubt I would've become the video game lover I am today.
I also pretty much agree on your take on the games too. Asylum had a unique atmosphere that no other Arkham game managed to recapture, it was the blueprint for all Arkham games to come, City had the best story imo and significantly improved on all gameplay aspects from Asylum, the Mr Freeze boss fight is still one of my favourite boss fights in all of gaming (try playing that boss fight on new game plus, it is significantly harder).
Origins was a mixed bag for me, I liked the Christmas setting, I loved the boss fights, I loved what they did with Bane, but I found it disappointing that they basically copy pasted the Clayface Joker twist, with the Joker posing as Black Mask twist (still liked Troy Baker's performance though), that Shiva and Deadshot were just side missions instead of being main story boss fights, and that Origins as a whole felt more like a Arkham City 1.5, with very little improvements to gameplay, and half of the map being just literally Arkham City's map just changed to look more Christmas-like.
Knight was also a mixed bag, but for different reasons. Unlike Origins, Knight brought a lot of improvements to gameplay, combat and traversal, the city was an entirely new and original map. I'd say that in terms of combat alone, Knight is easily the best Arkham game for me, it's addictive as fuck. In terms of graphics, also easily the best Arkham game. Unfortunately, unlike Origins, Knight had no real boss fights, aside from the fights where you team up with Nightwing against Killer Croc, with Robin against Albert King, and with Catwoman against the Riddler. All other "boss fights" are just tank fights, with that Cloudburst tank fight against the Arkham Knight being one of the worst boss fights I've ever seen in a video game, and it's even worse that it gets reused later as a boss AGAINST FUCKING DEATHSTROKE of all people. Had mixed feelings on the story too, I liked everything that was related to the Joker and Scarecrow, as well as Gordon, but felt that the Arkham Knight himself was the most underwhelming part of the game ironically enough. And finally, I'm also mixed on the Batmobile, I like it as an optional traversal method, I liked the chase sequences, and the puzzles, but the tank fights would always get boring for me pretty fast, and the fact that there are so many tank fights only made it worse.
Overall, the Arkham series was great, while I had mixed feelings on Origins and Knight, I still wouldn't call them bad games by any means, I think all the Arkham games are great in their own way, and I love them for it, but man, I don't think we'll ever get as great of a superhero video game series as this in a while, Insomniac's Spider Man remains the only hope, let's hope the upcoming sequel doesn't end up being a disappointment.

I’m glad you’ve rediscovered these games. I agree, I always compare every games’ combat system to the Arkham games and have not found 1 game that compares, it’s perfect. I also love the games that much that I got the platinum trophy for all 3 Rocksteady games, then got all achievements on Xbox for all 3, then did it again on both consoles with the first 2 remasters. Sad I know but I love the games that much. I can never get enough.

You're 100% spot on. I fired up Arkham Knight on my PC late last year just to mess around, that game still looks like something that could have been released in the last 2-3 years. It's an 8 year old game! Yes they overused the batmobile, but the gameplay holds up beautifully. The fighting mechanics and traversal above the city using the grappling hook and cape gliding never ceases to be fun. These are still the GOAT superhero games to me, including Spider-man 2018.
The arkham series including origins and blackgate aree games i love replaying. Same with the new doom games, witcher 3, cyberpunk 2077 and a good amount of the Assassin's Creed games. Just some of my favorite franchises and single player experiences. Juust so much fun to play through time and time again

No, Origins is the worst game, it's not has fast as the rocksteady games, they gave them the code to Arkham City and still couldn't get it right, you can't even glide high and the grapple doesn't work nearly as well moving around the map which is why they put fast travel in the game, Arkham City didn't need fast travel, and Arkham Knight is three times as big as the map in those games and doesn't have fast travel, because moving around the map is actually fun, WB montreal sucks, which is why Gotham Knight sucked
I loved the batmobile so much, exactly because we never got to drive it before in the franchise, so the "excessive" levels and sections with it were amazing to me. I still think Arkham knight is the best because of the gameplay and Gotham city, but yeah I agree Asylum is a mark in history of video games and City has the best story overall.
you can call the batmobile at will, this literally apart of being batman, the puzzle section with Ace Chemicals with the batmobile was some of the best game design till this day, only negative think you can critcize are the riddler races, those are annoying, but the tank battles were easy and not has frequent has they made them out to be
The nostalgia of the Arkham games for me is potent asf, going to blockbuster after release day of Arkham city was so hype when i was a kid because Asylum put such an affect on me even being a hardcore batman fan while growing up. Like damn i agree with you on AKC being the best in the series. Hopefully the Suicide Squad game is just as hype as these games!!

For some reason batman arkham city and arkham origins will not work on my ps3 maybe its the discs?? I havent tried to get new copies yet but the discs are clean but could be faulty discs any advice anyone??

I'll go as far as to say arkham city is the best superhero game to date, over 2018 spiderman and MM. Although from a raw combat and traversal gameplay standpoint arkham knight, 2018 and miles morales clears AC.
I've always been a huge fan of Batman. For some reason I never played this game. Maybe a blessing in disguise because now I can play all of them without waiting in between them. Which I plan on doing. I just have to finish Burning Shores DLC.

Ps3 and ps2 generation still always stand out as the most innovative cycle of gaming design.
The stealth in the Arkham games, that’s something I really loved. Taking them out one by one without getting noticed was a blast. Spider-Man I couldn’t get hooked. Maybe I should keep playing it. But the night and playing as the dark knight is more my thing.

Asylum was my first but Origins is my favorite(loved City too). I never cared for Batman till I played this series. Now he's like the coolest super hero to me.
I do want to point something out! When it comes to the combat system of the arkham games, the combat system uses free flow as its crutch... and all of us saw how masterful it was because it fits Batman perfectly.
But when it comes to what insomniac created in Spider-Man ps4? Basically, that system doesn't use free flow as a crutch... and with what they did, it has so much to do so much more.
That's why i can't wait to see that Spider-Man 2 gameplay.
overall I still have to side with these arkham games combat wise. ESPECIALLY city. It just feels more refined and flows better. I do agree though. I can't wait to see what improvements insomniac makes for spiderman 2. Cause spiderman 2018 was great

With the case of you can feel Batmans punches impact more than in Spiderman. I agree with you, that Spidey is way stronger than Batman. However, its the setting. Gotham is dark and more brutal. Spiderman is portrayed as PG (even some comics can be really dark) but Spidey always holds back, it was in many comics, that Spidey could kill many times if he wasnt careful, but he just holds back. Batman, because he is human and because of the atmosphere of Gotham really doesnt need to hold back, he just fucks the goons up. Both games portrayed it perfectly.

The Scarecrow boss fights in Asylum are arguably the best of the franchise. Close 2nd would be Ra's Al Ghul and Freeze (Tied) from City. Knight boss fights were AIGHTT....
Narrative wise, it was always City for me and then I would have Origins and Asylum tied at 2nd place.
Gameplay Mechs and graphical fidelity, Knight takes that cake easy. Even NOW Knight looks better than alot of games out.
Overall, this franchise doesn't have a bad game at all. I would go as far as to say that as a franchise, Top 5 of all time👀👀

The Batman Arkham and infamous series are arguably the best superhero video game franchises . Insomniac Spider-Man is also in that conversation once they have a bigger sample size of games.

I’m a huge fan of the mechanics. These games are so fun to play, you can get better but you don’t have to be a skill master to get through.
Fully agree with Batman vs Spiderman. Also Spiderman has you all over the place in combat which can get a little clunky.

Just for the Joker cutscenes and the boss fights Origins is by far my favorite of the 4. City felt really dragged out imo and I thought the twist with Clay Face was lame. I knew the cleaned up Joker was fake but i expected it to be Hush lol and then Clayface is revealed as the final boss and I'm like "Oh okay"
I was actually expecting the game to end off with a very sad 1v1 vs a dying Joker. Would have really made him dying even more impactful.
Asylums boss fights held it back and The Arkham Knight was a flop villain, game was carried hard by Scarecrow.
But the DLCs are incredibly well done.
The Arkham Collection is good friends with the Steam Deck, like a fine dish with a glass of fine 🍷

I didn't have a problem with the Batmobile in Arkham Knight, the tank aspect was the real problem, out of character for Bats personally & very repetitive

My favourite one of the bunch, loved the creepy amusement park setting
batgirl dlc was solid too but she just feels to close to batman as far as gameplay which I was a little disappointed with. Those other two just stood out to me more overall

These Batman games are freaking dope. These games are an example of how to do a superhero game...the main blueprint and every superhero game that came out after are "Arkham" children. Story wise yeah...you can debate if it's on an elite level or not but gameplay wise...Sheesh! 🎮🇨🇦🔥
Every arkham game is perfect to me.
The Arkham series is timeless imo and I regularly revisit Rocksteady’s trilogy whenever I’m in the mood for some goated Batman content. That being said, my personal favourite in the series is Arkham City, but i still think the overall premise in Asylum is superior. Knight mechanically is clearly the most polished and Origins is a great game in its own right that doesn’t deserve all the flak that it receives.
Here’s hoping Rocksteady knock it out of the park with Suicide Squad and maintain the same level of quality that‘s present in their Arkham games.
Goes to show that all the cap for Spiderman's combat system was pure recency bias. I played through Ayslum and City during my time off from work and it just reconfirmed my preference for the Arkham series over Spiderman. I really wanted to play through Arkham Knight as it was my favourite in the entire series but I couldnt becuz I didnt have enough time to no life it

I played origin for the first time 2021 or2022. I thought Gotham knight was going to be as good origin but not the case at all. I agree 100% that Arkham knight has the best gameplay by far and I think it’s the first Dlc I ever bought. I played the game at least 3 times. I am not going to compare it to Spider-Man cause I think that combat is fire also just more aerobatic. I also love the dlc from Spider-Man but miles morales combat is better than Spider-Man 1. I think Spider-Man 2 gameplay is going to another level.
Arkham knight bat mobile was used slightly too long but was so fun to use.
I love both super heroes equally. I think miles morales had also better boss fights than first game. So I think Spider-Man 2 could be GOTY material especially with how long they have taken to develop. I remember Spider-Man 1 dev said 3 1/2 years was his longest dev time. Imagine how good Spider-Man 2 can be with 5 yrs dev time if it comes out this yr.
Arkham Knight is my favorite one out of all of them other than that I can’t put the other 3 in a any particular order the Arkham series is my favorite game series of all time if I could put them into 1 I would say it’s my favorite game of all time

Another thing that Rocksteady got right and Insomniac didn’t was the villains. Arkham taught you about the villains through the environment of the asylum, patient interview tapes, characters bios, and memorable side missions. Insomniacs spiderman had plenty of villains but the only memorable one was Ock.
Ock was that main villain in the story. I thought they did great with Kingpin, shocker, scorpion etc. I’ll say that the arkham games just goes more into the lore of the villains. I actually think insomniac executed the fights better tho
Arkham games are my favorite batman anything as well as Batman the animated series. I highly recommend it if you liked the games. The two face and the clay face two parters are fuckin 🔥 episodes if you want to check them out. The games felt like a continuation of that show
Origins is one I replay every Christmas, it’s not the strongest in the series but all of them have strengths in their own ways. I mean compare Origins to Gotham Knights by the same developer WB Montreal…. Not even close. 😂
Arkham City is still a top ten game for me. This series really changed the game. You still see remnants of Arkham mechanics in other games to this day, for better or for worse.

Putting Knight at the bottom might be a hot take for some, for it had the best gameplay no question. Despite that though, it also had the most bloated feeling world, it had the worst boss fights in the series especially coming after Origins, the worst story and too many bat tank encounters. The side quests that continued from Arkham City (Hush,Azrael, etc.) were disappointing as well. Still a great game though despite all of that which is a testament to how great the series is.

If you think this combat is good, you should play Gotham knights. The showcase for it did it no justice, it’s not just a beat ‘‘em up like the Arkham series. It has a learning curve.

I have some small concerns
But these trailers and seeing how good Knight still looks on ps5 without any enhancements, its actually the same as it is on ps4 pff
Rocksteady must have used some kind of black magic to make their games
