Very sad news to hear of the death of Christy Dignam ...'everybody hits you ..everybody knocks you..'thanks to Killarney's Don MacMomagle for capturing these precious moments of music and song from the late Christy Dignam and to Liam O'Connor and his daughter and friends who made this into an ungforgettable impromptu concert in Killarney that is now part of the legacy of the late Christy Dignam...condolences to all his close family friends and fans all over the world for the loss of one of the greats in Irish and Rock music..
This brings tears to my eyes, a sad, sad story about useless and cruel war, sung and played beautifully and with total heart and feeling, Take a look at the faces of the people standing around and listening, it shows what this song means to them
I recently saw for the very first time Christy Dignam and Aslan playing live in Monaghan, coming from the Netherlands together with my Irish girlfriend. The moment Christy start singing my heart turned Irish
A true Dublin/Irish legend that gave so many of us many great nights out. Best frontman bar none a national treasure.. Always remembered never forgotten.. RIP Christy thanks for the memories 🙏☘
What a wonderful singer he could sing anything from rock to traditional and he is also one of the great singer/songwriters to come from Ireland. Rest in peace Christy.
I have to say I'd never heard of him til he died,I've been looking him up and what a great talent he was,one of Ireland's best, you can see here he took a bad turn, and yet he carried on singing, Luke kelly and Chris would be on an equal par with their wonderful, unique Irish voices.👏👏👏
So brilliant....Christy always had time for a song and put his heart and soul into it....such a legend, never to be forgotten...one of Ireland's national treasures, r.i.p. Christy 🌟
Ah , christy , So loved ! So Missed! Who have we got to fight for the under dog now, ? His music gave me great hope after returning. From Australia and feeling lost!! Thank you Christy , we know you.have the Best Seat in heaven with Phil lynott RIP, 2 best Irish boys in the World.❤
I am an old Aussie,of Irish decent and So Proud of our Heritage ! Such an Irish Legend ,Man just beautiful ,bought a tear to my eye ! And of Course of the Irish People ! Thank U Sir ,God bless U !
Hi Paul I am an old Irish guy also.. living the west coast of Ireland.. was taken by your comments.. I was a seafarer for most of my life.. a sea captain. I first visited Australia in 1964 Melbourne when I was a teenager and had a great time there it was the time of the swill hour when the pubs were open for two hours only- no passports needed for seafarers in those days.. young people today have no idea. What i wanted to say was you should check out irish hurling.. a great irish sport.. in fact the fastest game in the world played on a green field.. and all by amateurs.. a lot of them like you with your name Brennan coming from that great county Kilkenny.. the home of hurling and the Brennans. Jim Neill
This song always brings a tear to my eye no matter who is singing it. A truly powerful song that I think the whole world would be better off knowing. Great rendition by Christy, he's got some pipes!
How to sing with pride, passion and feelings. Distinctive beautiful voice, words to "Crazy world" mean more now with Covid lockdown. We are all 🙏 for the day when we can gather in streets like this again and listen to a singer like Christy. 💚💚
@hermannholzkamper630 "the singer's " name was Christy Dignam. And a marvellous artist he was too, battling cancer and still performing to the best of his abilities. Good man. 👍🏻
One of a kind, a truely gifted talented singer, and so down to earth, apleasure to have met him, years ago, in scraggs in carlow,, crazy world gone to soon x
This man would make anyone proud to be Irish, what a treasure to our wee country. May you rest in peace Christy. An honest and great man with Irish blood flowing through his veins forever.
Id heard of Aslan about 15 years ago. Was kinda a passing take it or leave thought. But started to find out more about Christy in the last few years. Started listening to Aslan, read up more on his life, what he's been through. I think he's a credit to himself and an amazing singer/songwriter. I wish I'd paid more attention to him earlier.
I only discovered Christy a few days ago while mooching around youtube - i've watched various interviews and performances, he is just such a lovely person and great singer, just think what I have missed all these years
Selfless to the end. A true gentleman and a raw talent. Now you can continue to entertain all of our loved ones past. RIP CHRISTY. Missed but will never be forgotten.
Christy what an amazing voice you have. I only heard of you by chance, scrolling through UA-cam. On some show with finbar fury? Then watched you with The Script. An amazing talent you had. RIP Christy x
Thank you we are indeed so proud of ireland, our music is our legacy, these great singers and musicians always fill us with pride, many good old nights in and out, a good session for us all to get up and belt out all the songs, its what we are known for
When he sang this on the late late he was absolutely excellent it showed how good a voice he has. Aslan could of been as famous as u2 only for certain hurdles. Great voice he is so down to earth. He is living with treatable but incurable big C

Every time I hear this it just gets better. What a memory to have been one of the people there on that day. Imagine life without music? It lifts my spirit, makes me happier, teaches me and moves my emotions. I LOVE IT!!
In America, most people have no clue about WWI and certainly not this song and here is a crowd of people singing along to this mournful song. Folk music is the only thing that keeps history alive, too bad humans refuse to learn from it.
Looking back to the early middle ages the Irish Church and monks supposedly saved Christianity for Europe..some say same is happening again but in a different way.. in a cultural way...one thing is you can say about the Irish - they are different
This is a sad and true song. Everyone should hear this song at least once and it reminds me of all those who suffered and died doing what they believed was a war to end all wars. The words in this song tell everyone why we salute those who fought for freedom. Brilliant song, sung so well and the haunting tone of the accordion works so well. Thanks for posting and thanks to the singer and accordion player. I loved it.
