Thank you, that was super helpful! I knew something was wrong, but I couldn’t figure it out. You helped my figure out that my seat was too low and too far back. ☺️
@@catkom8132 sure. When I did long distance road cycling. When you got custom fitted for the bike they used a string with a weight. They hung of from the bone on the outside of your knee. When the weight on the other end hung at the side of your foot it was exactly over the center of the pedal. This made sure your knees would nit get blown out from cycling. Thus. The knee over pedal concept.
@@scotttownley5076 I understand. I usually aim more for knee over where the laces would be. I does depend on the rider's mobility when it comes to Spinning. I think it can range from a 90 degree angle (when knee is right over ankle ususally) at the knee to a slight acute angle where the knee is more during the outdoor fitting you're describing. In that small range though.
great video. some people ask were to put the handlebars with regard to coming more in or further away (not height wise- length wise). what is the guideline?
That is the last position to adjust. First, make sure the rest are all correct. Then, adjust the reach for comfort and proper upper body extension. A slight bend in the elbow indicates a proper fit. It's more about comfort.
Wished they made bikes for shorter women! It’s been a struggle to find the right bike for someone 5ft0! Super frustrating! Us shortys want to get fit too..
So interesting you ask this. When I got certified to teach SPIN I asked this question and they didn't have a good answer. I'm 5ft8 so it would not impact me at all but I thought that was odd they don't make shorter bikes. Good luck!
Great question! My daughter is 5ft and couldn't use my bike (I'm 5"6) - we ended up having to saw the seat down! I wish manufacturers would consider people who are smaller in stature.
Unless her foot has unusual proportions, she doesn't have the ball of her foot over the spindle of the pedal. It's typically closer to the widest plane of the shoe since the ball of the foot is the widest plane of the foot. Either way, this is a long held misconception, as the foot needs to be supported by both ends of its arc at the mid foot. It creates an issue of toe overlap for some types bikes, but that is never a problem for spin bikes.
I have Done all of this and am still getting coccyx pain any advice? Have replaced the saddle also and I use clip in shoes if that makes any difference
Jake M Usually, there should me no weight on the handlebars! The weight is on the bottom (seat/tights). You don’t want to lean foward and put all your weight on the handlebars, also when yoûre standing on the bike. The handlebars are there to keep your balance essentially. I’m open to learn if somedy thinks I’m wrong :)
Anne-Lo is mostly right. You have to put a tiny bit of weight into them, but just enough to keep balanced. You should keep the majority of your weight over the pedals and saddle.

I have been cycling at the same studio for a year and have never changed my bike settings. The settings were perfect for me in the beginning and now I’m having hip and lower back pain. I don’t know what to do!
Hey Ashley! Check out this video we did on lower back pain when cycling. Hope this helps, and let us know if you have any other questions! ua-cam.com/video/Xw00OnNRHZg/v-deo.html
Well, to be honest, the goal should more be to ride comfortably without injury right! The thing is that if you're doing a proper job hinging forward from the hips for most that is the height that allows you to keep your back and shoulders relaxed.
you actually have her too high.... if you want your people to have a better work out and more power to the petal, I would put her up a bit higher. You actually do not sit on the bike with a flat back at all.... YOu are trying to be like a circle or a wheel where you are the top half like.... I would like for you to show me one road rider that rides with a flat back..... I would definitely suggest working on your own form on the bike before setting others up....
I'm an instructor for Utah Valley University and this is a great video that helped remind me how to help my riders set up properly. Thanks!
