This speaks to me so much. The visual metaphor of the monster masks being equal to one's own anxiety making themselves their own monster is genius.
One of my favorite music videos of all time
Excellent track. Absolutely loved the Viet Cong LP, it was easily my favorite album of 2015. Expecting this one to be my favorite of 2016!
they changed name but not the awesomeness level of their songs. can't wait for the new album!
The new name fits their new sound more than "Viet Cong" would've.
Yeah, this is pretty much how constant anxiety feels. Spot on. Looking forward to the new album.
the Kubrick zoom
The best song of 2016.
If this track is anything to go by I'm sure we're all in for a treat. Hoping to catch them the next time they're in the UK. Have a feeling a live performance of Death would be a truly thrilling experience!
the video accompanying this wonderful song is also amazing. oh, and yes, it's quite the thrilling experience!
yes, Death live is really amazing
especially when they've jammed it out past 25 minutes
I've seen them play it and they nail the noisy midsection =perfectly=. Wonder what sort of pedals they use.
+Thomas Hesser caught a pic of it when I saw them. boss re-20, mxr carbon copy, mxr distortion +, ts9, holy grail, mxr analog chorus. I think that chorus is what makes their sound, just like it did with women.
first time hearing this band, and so glad I came across them, awesome song
With a sense of urgency and unease
Second-guessing just about everything
Recollections of a nightmare
So cryptic and incomprehensible
Encompassing
Anxiety
No control, no compensation
A jaded need for some astonishment
It's a blunt humiliation
Not at risk of being overconfident
Encompassing
Anxiety
I'm spinning in a vacuum
Deteriorating to great acclaim
Help has fallen by the wayside
Nowhere near to finding better ways to be
I'm not here purely for the sake
Of breathing, I am wide awake
Excuse my efforts for today
All-encompassing

I'm spinning in a vacuum
Deteriorating to great acclaim
Help has fallen by the wayside
Nowhere near to finding better ways to be
I'm not here purely for the sake
Of breathing, I am wide awake

still one of the best music videos I know. So stunning
This band....to me ..if a computer had to calculate the whole new wave era...in a nutshell...then this would be its anwer, this is the ultimate..the creme de la creme...visual and aurical what an art...bravo
wow these guys have the best music videos
2023 : still an amazing song and thank them.... they released another terrific album
Come to Greece again guys. New song is super!
I just discover this song yesterday and it's already on repeat, excellent band and great video, it reminds me of Twin Peaks a bit
Shouldn't have changed your name. Still, this is a good slow track, like Paper Spoons without the booming energy. Hope this album is just as good as the last.
Very excited for the new album!
Are Preoccupations the first ever band to release two (differently titled) self-titled albums?
Technically Women is a different band...
I still don't know which I prefer. Public Strain is one of the best albums of the decade in my mind, though
Weezer released like 4 or 5
Touche. Though I'm meaning two differently named self-titled albums from the same band.
My bad. In that case, you're probably right. Sounds like this is shaping up to be as good as the Viet Cong ST too!
Here's hoping. March of Progress and Death were in my top 10 from last year.
Doesn't get more Post-Punk than this!
Yes it does
lel
it does but fka Viet Cong manages to sound original while retaining some fundamental influences and that's why I like them so much
just heard this on my car radio a few days back...so glad I found it...
this is the most triumphant song ever produced by humankind
wow,I get visions of Blair Witch,Village of the Damned,Texas Chainsaw, and VHS for mere rawness of the camerawork.not that it looks amateur,it just has a raw feeling to it.just discovered this band today and love what I hear so far, gotta give it up.
So lovely
best album of 2016 !!!!
Excellent! great job guys!! it's an honor listen the new journey of preoccupations!!
God, this is gorgeous.
Powerful song. The music video fits the mood perfectly.
*this song cure my anxiety.*
Simply amazing.
Sam Wolfe Connolly illustrations set to video. I honestly looked in the credits and was surprised not to see him there.
They dont give credit to the artist again? fuck!! They did the same with their song "continental shelf" where most of the compositions were taken from Michael Borremans paintings
Gunna have to check this artist out, thanks for the heads up.
On the directors own vimeo channel he gave credit to the artist he borrowed from for Continental Shelf. As far as I'm aware this video hasn't made it to vimeo, but he doesn't run this channel.
Thanks for pointing that out Levi.
Some scenes of the video remind me of Michale Duane's style of fotography. Lovely to see that Viet Cong aka Preoccupations are finally back!
very good video , would fit soft moon too
Getting so much darker I feel. I love it!
Bad boys, your style is unique. So disturbing and appealing at the same time. x
The soundtrack to ... anxiety
Very much digging it
so psyched for their new album!
i like this a lot.
Excellent band
Sounds like Bauhaus! Extremely cold vocals OoO
Finally something new to me ear , though somewhat reminds interpol
Me gusta el nuevo nombre
Me gusta el nuevo vídeo
Me gusta la nueva canción
Gran banda los ex Viet Cong, buena pinta el nuevo disco.
Come to Brazil!
Concuerdo contigo, son increíbles.
Solid track
3:18 epic frame!!. Endless and inquisitor human behavoir...
Esta canción es genial amo el vídeo 😍
my favorite 1980's horror film
Is this actually based on a movie?
No, it's based on illustrations by Sam Wolfe Connelly, look him up :)
Hehe, I pointed that out a couple weeks ago but thanks. SWC is a pretty dope artist, have enjoyed a lot of his illustrations over the past several years.
love it
Michael Gira would be proud :')
You say that like he's dead haha
I saw 3 videos of 3 different bands with this same comment
The intro sounds remind me of the beginning of Public Strain
As if this song wasn't depressing enough...
this video is on some bleak shit. great track
beautiful
This video causes me anxiety
LOVE
I can not wait to see them 10/29 in San Francisco at The Independent
@ColoredSpaces
anything related to women is god teir god damn
The back instrumental might has an influence of NEU!'s Super 16, just so good and unique
Twin Peaks + Begotten = This video.
lit snowboarding music
they were amazing at coachella. :)
This album is badass
Fucking beautiful song and beautiful
Pls come back to Australia
THEY'RE BACK!!
Merci encore à Dom pour m'avoir fait connaitre ce groupe aux sons comme j'adore …..
Oh look, another cool ass band from Canada! Great stuff.
great!
listening to this while having a panic attack 😊😂😔
I'M
HYPED
This video is fantastic! I wonder what kind of camera/lens/film combo this was shot with. Very evocative of silent-era style. Any ideas?
16mm camera I think.
its called
filters in.................post production
so good
Kocham!!!
Holy Fuck, just found this. WOOOW
Loooovely
Thanks for frightening me with sounds and images
Any new music coming out? I’d love to hear what y’all are doing during the pandemic 😏
Hopefully, soon.
it seems like have a fistfight with your brother/band-member on stage, and having another killed - is not a reason to stop making music, or to "make it"... so happy for them.
Welcome back!
Reminds me of HMHB 'Corgi Registered Friends'
yum♡
Kool
beauty
Not bad, I like the visuals.
wow, a lot of people are pissy about the name change. have you ever considered that listening to criticism and sometimes changing your mind is actually *more adult* than instantly going into boilerplate whine-mode about the PC police?
Me personally I wouldn't of changed the name just to piss people off. Throwing a fit over a band name. Shits retarded
@@tylerwestphal8818 A bunch of nice guys from Canada decided they wanted to play music instead of fight the internet.
Preoccupations is a way better name
ironic since people going into boilerplate whine-mode is the only reason they changed their name in the first place
n_e_e_t HOW???? Viet Cong was lit
anybody know of any movies with similar creepy vibes and visuals?
i fucking love this videoclip!
can someone please get me some lyrics on this song? please? pretty pretty please? with fresh sugar on top? I can't even fully understand what words that guy singed.
xoxo
This gave me a little anxiety while watching this. Is that strange?
I think it might have been the grungy undertone of the song.
where the film #frank hits hard on #sxsw amalgamations and people actually begin to lose not only life-long homes but those passed down for america's sake because someone launched an unbeknownst brocade working people against - the history books detailing north to south conquistadorean-behaviour don't hurt either
მადლობა ნოდარს თქვენზე რომ მითხრა
the last time i fall in love with music was the first time i listen to Joy Division.
Was this scanned at the Colorlab in NYC?
some scenes of the video remind me of boom bip & doseone
Can we get a credit for Ralph Eugene Meatyard for much of this video? Director: Lucybelle Crater.
Brazil the better option!!
omg can you fell all this shit listening this music???? uahsduhausdhuas amo esta msk demais
I'm looking for more bands like this (besides women of course) please help me aht, yall. Hook it up wif dem sullen vibes.
Try Crystal Stilts
Check out Protomartyr, they have 2 albums out that are both great. Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights and check out This Heat as well
Faux Fur (Pat and Matt Flegel's younger brother and Jean-Sebastian Audet) , Telstar Drugs (my personal favourite, their s/t is the most post-punk-y), Dories (Criticized as being too derivative, but still very good.), Fels Naptha (Pat Flegel's brief stint with a member of The Courtneys (I think). They're called Phill's Knapsack on bandcamp due to a lawsuit.), Gretchen (Calgary-based post punk.) Chad Van-Gaalen's album Diaper Island (Features his distinct guitar production as heard on Public Strain) Freak Heat Waves (Ebbs more into Krautrock and Art-punk, but one of the earlier acts to emerge post-Women.)
And then there are all the bands that heavily inspired these guys like This Heat and The Fall. But check out the list above first. It's my own personally curated list of a genre that I've obsessed over for the last 5 years. If you want a list of representative singles (because there's a lot of material to cover there.) let me know and I'll write that list out too.
This Heat
Do u like brmc?
Viet Cong!
