I was wondering if you could sew couple scrubs tops for me? I am 62 and get hot all the time. So I prefer lightweight fabrics. Which most companies don't make. I can send you 2 of my favs so you can make pattern. But I don't want them cut up.
Also, cat or dog beds and toys are good for scraps. They tend to love the weird texture of basically a bag of scrap fabric, especially if you throw a fuzzy fabric in the mix on the outside.
I love that idea! I don’t have any pets but my sisters do!
Omg my cat would love that! He hates the soft, squisy pet beds available in stores. And I could make removable covers with his blanket 😊
I LOVE THIS 🌋 my scrap bag is a family suitcase and it’s overflowing rather embarrassingly, literally exploding at the seams! Please make more of these if you enjoyed making it/it’s successful, I would love more inspo like this, I’m going to make a slowpoke! I have so much pink!
Yes more scrap tutorials in the moment instead of hoarding it coming up!
He looks derpy, which is super cute! With your scraps, I would just cut them up in tiny pieces to use as syuffing in later projects. Then you don't have to buy stuffing, the fabric doesn't end up in landfills and you don't have to pay $20 for the bag! They will also take up less space once cut up.
Oh no 😭😭😭 poor Pikachu! But you're right, he's still cute anyway 😂
eBay sell bags of scraps. Off cuts from shops and factories. Quilters buy the cotton scraps. Good to see you again ❤
Shoot, I need to sell mine then 😂
I use a cooking chopstick to turn things right side out and it really helps with pushing corners out. It can get them really sharp without poking holes.
I sew mostly plushies, so I use all of them for initial filling (which of course is not enough, so I add polyfill which I buy as production waste/excess from a duvet factory)
I decided a couple of years ago to hide my scrap stash inside various pillows. I made 6 new couch cushions of various sizes and installed zippers in all of them. This way when I have scraps that are too small to make a whole garment they get chopped up and put in the tiny pillows or left a bit bigger and put in the bigger ones. For tiny scraps I mix in a bit of stuffing so the pillows are still soft. This way the scraps are "functional" and if i ever need them again I can zip the pillows open and take pieces out or add new scraps 🎉 I dont know what to do when the pillows are eventually full though 😂
Awwww, he's special and unique! I love him!
That Pikachu meme when she said "catch them all" 😂❤
So nice to see you! Please do more clothing videos, either thrifted transformations or from scratch. Thanks!
So I was fixing these new jeans that I just bought and all of a sudden I remembered you. I used to watch you a decade ago when I was still in fashion school. I remember watching your videos while I sew garments for my school projects, you were preparing your portfolio I think, I can’t really remember but it was school related and I felt like we were classmates, lmao. Good times but unfortunately Covid-19 happened and I had to re-invent myself. So yeah, as I was saying, I thought of you out of nowhere and I was like “I hope she didn’t give up like me”. I almost spent the entire evening trying to find your channel. This may sound silly but I’m so happy you’re still doing this, it really made my night… and just like that, I’m now feeling nostalgic.
It's so derpy I loooove it!
Is really cute, with so many versions of Pikachu, this one is like one of them, a really cute one
The Pikachu is adorable. If anyone comments on its appearance, just say that this Pikachu is a rare evolution from an unknown region in the Pokémon universe. Non players will accept that and actual players should admire the effort. My scraps are mostly lace, beaded or sequin trims with much of them in black or beige. I also have buttons, however none in a quantity that could be used to replace fasteners on current outerwear. My scrap handling "methodology" involves procrastination de-evolving to hoarding. Maybe a way to use them up would be to create fantasy/fairy tale animals, such as a unicorn or new members of the "My Little Pony" herd? Would love to see a coolirpa creation using mostly specialty trims.
I think your Pikachu is adorable💛🥰💙
I miss when you used to post all the time 😣 so glad you are still around! Love pikachu
🥹 at least you tried, Pikachu turned out so cute! 💛
I love that your Pikachu is a bit derpy and isn’t machine cookie cutter aligned.
In the Netherlands there's recycling bins for clothing/shoes/coats/underwear/bras/fabrics to be recycled or reused :) I recently brought a bag there.
I love patchwork Pikachu!
I watch a lot of bag sewing videos and I think some of the techniques I've seen there might be helpful for some of your issues. First, a lot of the bag makers that do patchwork will either sew directly onto or later apply a thinner piece of heat bonded interfacing before construction to avoid the stretching problem. Second, many bag makers will cut thick interfacing smaller than the fabric (by an amount equal to the normal seam allowance) and sew next to the interfacing to avoid the bulk in the seams. This seems to make turning the work a bit easier, as well. Many of the sewists I watch are Asian and it seems they all learn to sew using an awl (or sometimes even small scissors or clippers, but yikes!) using it to guide and align the fabric under the machine foot. This seems to work well for bulky fabrics. But I haven't tried it, so I can't say whether it's effective; all I know is nearly all of them use this technique.
I hope you'll try another plushie!
Pikachu😍Great idea for scraps🤩 will def make one like this in the future. Thanks for sharing April🤟
Very cute, I use my scraps for making pillows or plushies. I have also created floor poofs/foot rests. Nice zipper so you can also use for storage of scraps as you find uses for them. LOL
I would just give my scraps away! So much work!
Yes it was 😮💨😫
April, this is so cute! Been watching you since early high school and I’ve been out of college now for five years. Love to see your work all the time. Thanks so much for the captions!
I’m so glad you posted this even though Pikachu came out a little silly looking :) I’ve sewed a few plushies myself but I’m very amateur so I was able to take a lot of helpful tips (like the stabilizer!) from the video. It also makes me feel a lot better about my own work when I see that even an absolute sewing wizard like yourself can have things come out different than planned. And besides, I still think it came out kinda cute 🥲 Overall, great video!!
completely agree!!!!
i usually buy fabric on the cut piece, so usually, since im plus size, im more short on fabric instead of there being leftovers, and the little scraps i just put in a grocery bag and it doesnt bother me much, its tiny enough to be used as stuffing
but off topic, i see you switching your content to costumes and anime related sewing, so if you wanna dive on that so you can come back to the channel like officially i wouldnt mind, i feel like it makes you happy???? and i miss your content and will watch anyway
Lovely captions!
Little peanutchu looks so cute
Love the Pikachu!! Adorable!!! Love the captions too!!!
awww it doesn’t matter, he looks so cute anyway 💖
Oh my goodness! This was SOOO cute
Very cute!!!!!
Yay! Very cute! 🎉
He's so cute omg i love him!!!
So fun!
Missed you was loving all your projects
Hello! Missed you too 🥰
She's back!!!!
Very cool and a great way to use up scraps. My scraps get used for different things depending on the fabric content. I make dog and cat beds for the local humane society, plushie stuffing, scrappy quilts from cottons, dust rags from microfiber, pet toys from fleece, etc. Possibilities are endless!!!
love this video!! i usually hoard them and then one day find something to make with them hopefully
Very Cool
You are Amazing. I love watching your channel ❤
I like it. So nice to your ideas I try this..
You didn’t fail at making a Pikachu you succeeded in making a Mimikyu!
This is so inspiring and cute!! I def have to attempt this :) thank uuuuu
ITS SO CUTE I WANT IT
Omg 😱 it’s so cuteeeee ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you. I just can’t get over the slant 🫤😂
@@coolirpayea he looks like he’s had a mild stroke. He’s still cute though. 😊
I gradually use my scraps as stuffing, sometimes use them in projects if they're large enough - like a pillow I quilted together with some scraps. I even will sometimes use scrap thred to either baste or close a small hole, etc; thred scraps do eventually add up, too, so they get thrown into the filling when too small. I've had the idea of making/selling random monster plushies that are solely made from scraps (because if they're monsters, it's okay if they turn out a little wonky looking, lol)
So thankful for every tip on how to use the scraps! I stumbled upon zero waste patterns lately. Maybe you could try out some? That would be awesome!
I make small hexagons out of my scraps and stitch them together so they give off a "Quilt" like vibe. Makes it look a bit more intentionally done.
Pikachu hurt itself in its confusion.
Suggestion: Seam rips off the face then reposition then and use stitch witchery to iron then in a better position.
Awwwww!
I stuff and make pillows with my scraps.
Scrap blankets - I just made a hexie blanket with scrap fabric
Hello! I saw you over at the career day! :)
My home has become the area where quilt scraps come to die. I'm trying to make two baby crib quilts out of quilt scraps right now. Have you ever tried making patch work garments out of your scraps?
Those are the same thoughts I have when I’m sewing plushies. I worry that they’ll turn out ugly or creepy. But the Pikachu is so adorable!!! 🤟
Awwwww
So cute! I was wondering if the pikachu isn't super hard? I filled a plushie for my sister with fabric scraps, but it ended up super hard (she likes it so it's fine), so I ended up buying filling for other projects. Maybe I didn't cut the pieces small enough?
Idea for Scraps: Make Barbie size clothes and sell them.
My scraps often end up as stuffing. I recently made a doorstopper and stuffed with all my tiny scrap's. Its yellow, shaped like a chicken and also came out a little funny looking. It could be great friends with Pikachu 😂
I sorted out my fabrics a while ago and now I also try to make a habit of using smaller pieces that could be used right away.
😝👯♀️
You came to Susan Lavern’s right that’s my school
🤟🖤💛
🤟😍
I am a total hoarder. What am I going to use those old maroon flannel sheets for? I don’t know, but I swear I will use them. What is that company that recycles the fabric, I can probably fill 10 of those bags sadly.
We’re the same person 😂
The company is For Days
🇨🇦😃 fun
20$ for the scrap bag 🥺 its way overcharged. I use scrap for round rags.
When are you gonna actually start doing Thrift flips again
Ya no haces contenido como antes ni con la frequencia q hacias
Pikachu has some personality to him thats all ❤ but i literally just ordered my Take Back Bags lol the IG ads be getting me. I have a laundry bin full of scraps 🫣 and im hoping to donate the majority of them. I haven't been motivated to sew because the heap of scraps will get bigger but knowing they will be put to good use has me hopeful ✨️🫶🏿
