    Well, this made my day. What better gift can you get than to see one of your games on PowerPlayChess? Thank you GM King!
    I mentioned this game in a comment on the Gukesh video released recently. The reason I brought it up, was because I felt like it was a classic example of wins I get from having bought GM King's course on the Kalashnikov.
    First off, I would have never even considered becoming a Kalashnikov player had it not been for watching videos on this channel. Secondly, I would NEVER have had the guts to switch to playing it without the Chessable course. And I'm so glad I did.
    I used to play the Scheveningen variation of the Sicilian but no one lets you play that through the normal move order. You always get transposed in to the Keres attack which is universally thought to be good for white, because I think it is. I actually got to play a Keres attack against a guy named Magnus Carlsen once in a "classical" time control. It was a simul, with a young pre-world champion Magnus. And I actually had a slightly better position after 18 moves, to which I blundered horrifically on move 19 missing an obvious intermezzo. :)
    This game, I simply played the first move that popped in to my head. The course gave me a very playable position out of the opening and plans to follow up with. To be fair, I think my opponent just wasn't super familiar with the opening. Obviously he had some experience, because he had a big time advantage during the game. I find most people are surprised by the Kalashnikov. So you get that bonus too!

    To be honest, videos in this channel are exactly the reason I myself stopped playing Maroczy bind against Kalashnikov as white (I often play Kalashnikov with black, as well). I still like to use Maroczy bind in other Sicilian variations, but I feel that in Kalashnikov it's really a double-edged approach which needs to be executed very carefully by white.

    Nice game and very well explained. Thank you!
    I wonder why the Kalashnikov is not more popular on the Super-GM level ?

      Because at least the c4 variation is very double edge, as super GM, your job is more to draw with black and have some chances of winning if your opponent makes a mistake, Hikaru has used it a lot of time against Super GM, but I guess you can avoid the c4 variation altogether with the Sveshnikov.

      @charkoal8071 Yes, that could be a reason.

    Great video, I really enjoyed it. I'm in the process of searching for a new line against one e4! The Kalashnikov was suggested by a friend of mind in the past, So I will be thinking of grabbing your Chessable course on it.

    Thank you Daniel for bringing Kalash game and theory to us. instead of f3, what do you think about f4? Double edge, I know, opening the g7 bishop, yet....

    Great video, thanks Daniel. I’m surprised that white did not play NC2 to challenge the Nd4.

      The problem with playing Nc2 is that the c4 pawn becomes vulnerable.

    I think one issue with the Kalashnikov and perhaps, why we don't see it more often at GM level, is that it's easy to side-step. The Rossolimo, for example, as we saw in the Candidates, or 3.Nc3 and if black goes ... e5 then 4. Bc4 with a very slight but solid edge.

    • @PowerPlayChess
      @PowerPlayChess  5 місяців тому +2

      One could say the same about any Sicilian - of course there are Anti-Sicilian systems one needs to know about as Black. That's why I produced an Anti-Sicilians course for Chessable (to accompany the Kalashnikov) and naturally the Rossolimo, as well as 3 Nc3, are part of that course!

    I thought Botvinnik was the originator of the phrase "every Russian schoolboy knows"?

      It doesn't sound like Botvinnik - but if you can find the source, I'll believe it!
