Optimus is also wayyy easier to design. The boxy truck body and long frame that makes for simple legs is child's play compared to a curvy beetle. I think this is pretty neat.
That robot form is nice. The legs and the detachable windscreen are unfortunate but considering the lego medium, I'm not that bothered with it. The car form though, is a much harder sell for me, a bit too rough around the edges.
Thank you Jang. You did your homework including the Transformer lingo. I'm a Transformers fan too. It saddens me to see this is a parts-former, super-deformed, has stickers, and it does not appear to have storage for the gun. I cannot justify the spend...this doesn't hit me in the feels for nostalgia purposes like Prime.
Maybe it's worth tinkering with. LEGO sets are moddable by nature, and I'm sure someone online will find a way to redesign this Bumblebee. Imo, the stickers aren't a problem, you could leave them out, they certainly aren't that intrusive. Besides, I like that the license plate says "GLDBUG."
Fun Fact: The original Bumblebee toy wasn't meant to be an accurate representation of a Volkswagon beetle, but was instead modelled after a penny racer. AS a result, most of the Bumblebee variations that have come out over the past 40 years have resembled a beetle without being accurate. Thus, having this alt mode looking something like a cross between a beetle and a sedan isn't a big deal.
They won't because LEGO doesn't do tanks, and they would ruin Megatron anyways. Soundwave would be far more likely. I'm not sure LEGO/Transformers will do anything else because Optimus Prime was fairly good but didn't sell as well as expected and I think Bumblebee will sit on the shelves until there is a good discount.
@@dmonsef Gen 1 Megatron wasnt a tank but it was a real life scale handgun, which is somehow even worse. gen 2 (maybe onwards? i didnt follow Transformers after the first 2 generations) was a tank though, and the purple and black iteration from Gen 2 is my favourite Transformer
I've been looking forward to this one since it was first rumored, but I don't know now. I'm going to wait on your review before deciding whether to buy this one or not.
What’s going to make or break this one for me, is knowing if it’s possible to leave the windshield in place on the robot mode. That’ll hurt the look of the robot mode, obviously, but I prefer that over partsforming such a critical component.
While not as nicely excecuted as the Optimus Prime still an admirable attempt. I think this will display/feel better in person than the pics suggest. That face print though is on point. Definitely getting this alongside Optimus in July.
Before people complain about how chunky or out of proportion he is, G1 Bumblebee is NOTORIOUSLY hard to make transforming figures of. Even Hasbro and Takara Tomy struggle with it often and most of his figures end up with huge feet and a backpack. From the moment this was leaked I had thought there was no way Lego could make this thing transform and they did. I'm suprised it looks as good as it does. Also as someone who interacts a lot with the Transformers fandom, they are very happy with how this looks.
Good quick look. I don’t care at all about stability while transforming or whatever, but these things really need to have posable knees. I understand all the reasons they don’t do it. But whatever. They should still do it.
The legs are pretty simple for a modern LEGO set, but then, so were the original toy's. The cartoon design is boxy too, but not quite THAT simple. I am guessing this is due to some restrictions on durability and stability. I wonder if you can leave the windshield on while you transform it, or put it back on his waist after you transform it, so Bumblebee looks more like his original design. I hadn't collected Transformers since 2008 or so. I was shocked at how expensive they are now. There's some stuff I want, but I'm definitely going to go all in it like I did back then. Anyway, I'm definitely getting this Bumblebee to go with my Prime.
I do like this but in terms of novelty Bumblebees I think if I had to get one the Missing Link Bumblebee would win out over this, and worth noting you could get both that and the upcoming SS86 Bumblebee for less money for the price. They're aiming for different markets (and both are much smaller than this) but it's worth noting I think
Definitely going to need some time before I consider buying this, but it looks fine from the front. I’m just hoping this sells well so we can get a Soundwave
idk, I feel like they could have kept his front-windshield on the body for transformation, og bumblebee did have just, the entire top of his car-mode as his chest plate after all.
Considering how a really cool G1 Bumblebee with a Penny Racer alt mode will be hitting store shelves soon (for 20$ or so, no partsforming), I wonder if LEGO fans will fall for the same trick again and purchase an inferior product with 'might be fun to assemble yourself' price markup.
I really wish that this was Soundwave instead of another autobot. Plus I think that would be very easy to transform I would have liked to seen another faceprint featuring the original G! face. Will get it eventually but once it is discounted
A knee mod would be so easy considering how straight the legs are + it has a better back than the masterpiece figure which is CRAZY considering this is lego
Love the look of the robot. Not a fan of it in car mode. I was hoping for something a bit bigger that looked closer to the Creator Expert VW Beetle. I feel like Optimus Prime set the bar so high. I wish this was about the same size as that even if it wasn't the same scale. It would just look better in both modes IMO. I'll still be getting it though but same as Jang, it'll only be one. Optimus was good enough to get two
Scalping for Transformers was bad during covid like a lot of products, but now it's back to Hasbro just not meeting demand. I'd say Lego has more of a scalping problem whereas Transformers has more of a the-company-that-produces-them-has-decades-old-distribution-problems.
I think for a Lego replica of the original G1 toy, it's pretty decent. Only thing I don't like is the shaping of the roof in vehicle mode, but I'll probably be displaying it in robot mode anyways
Bumblebee feels like a much harder challenge to make a transforming figure of, compared to Optimus. The partsforming is a bummer though. Transformers are the main thing I collect these days, but there is so much I want and only so much I can spend, so I think Ill pass on this. It feels highly unlikely, but I think the only lego bot who might get me would be Shockwave.
People are being pretty unfair to the designer I feel! If the transformation was simpler maybe it would have looked more like the source material, but given they were trying to make the transformation more involved to invoke the old toys, I think it looks pretty good in both forms, and its almost half the price of the optimus prime so this is a major win in my eyes.
Now this is very neat! Another Transformer in Lego form! It's not as impressive as Optimus Prime was, but at that size, you can't expect perfection. But I like Bumblebee. I'm wondering if Lego will be able to tackle Decepticons next!
Parts-forming, yeah....but Hasbro's last official G1 Bumblebee and Cliffjumper was also a parts-former for lazy design reasons. At least this one makes a little more sense.
LEGO made Bumblebee a BumbleBust! You can't sugarcoat the design flaws on this. I know a lot of ppl where expecting the car mode to be a VW Bug, but it looks more like a VW Bug with a caved in roof or something! I just can't fathom how LEGO/Hasbro could allow it to turn out like this?
It looks good as a robot and in scale with prime. As a car? Eh... but the fact it's a converting Lego? You got to give credit to the Lego designers. I'm in!!!
No idea why they went with bumblebee. Bumblebee G1 toys have always looked terrible in robot form imo, and I really think that trying to adhere to nostalgia/accuracy to the old toys is holding Lego back here. They probably could've at least added better articulation, and maybe even improve the overall appearance in robot form. Car form looks fine to me, but a little excessive on the stickers(honestly Lego is way too sticker happy, considering all their competitors have moved on.) I think a better Lego transformer would've been Megatron or Soundwave, but I fear Lego is unlikely to make Megatron because his alt form is literally just a gun.
This iteration looks more toy accurate than animated show accurate (except the head, the head is spot on accurate to the show). The original toy's vehicle mode wasn't a VW beetle. It was basically a generic yellow car with a coin slot for the play feature. Even the G1 cartoon takes more design elements from the toy than it did the Beatle. And in both, the legs were pretty bland and unremarkable. I would have liked it if they could have avoided the parts forming, and managed to include more of the roof on the torso, but I'll have to see how it's built in order to understand how it might be moddable. By the very nature of Bumblebee's G1 design, and how very differently LEGO is designed as a toy, compromises were inevitable here.
The original Takara Micro Change car _was_ definitely a VW Beetle, it was just SD (I mentioned Choro-Q one of these videos). A casual observer could immediately tell what it represented. Like you said, though, the original toy was no masterpiece of believability or engineering, and that definitely affects how this LEGO rendition turns out.
While I'll refrain from making a final decision until I see some hands-on reviews, I'm not feeling this one as much as I did with Optimus so far. I get that they needed to make compromises in order for this set to work, Optimus had some too, but I feel like they made far too many for Bee. The rear looks particular dreadful with the tiny rear window, poor shaping overall and how it looks almost caved in. I personally don't mind partsforming in certain areas, and if any, the rear was where such a gmmick was needed most. No articulation in both arms and legs is a big downgrade from Optimus too, at least his arms were posable. $90 isn't too bad for 950 pieces, but this one might be a pass from me.
His shoulders look a little too highset, his torso's a little weird, and his legs are kind of weird. The Aranobilis98 version, although a bit complicated, looks so much better
I'm not a transformers *fan but I do have a g1 bumblebee on me so its stocky appearance isn't bothersome. Then again this model still is pretty lackluster. Couldn't even not make Bumblebee a partsformer

Forget the Lego, I want that VW table lamp.
Optimus was awesome. This is ... ok...
Optimus is also wayyy easier to design. The boxy truck body and long frame that makes for simple legs is child's play compared to a curvy beetle.
I think this is pretty neat.
The legs kill this one for me
fingers too
It’s accurate to the show dude
The face on Bumblebee here is WAY better than the face on Optimus.
That robot form is nice. The legs and the detachable windscreen are unfortunate but considering the lego medium, I'm not that bothered with it. The car form though, is a much harder sell for me, a bit too rough around the edges.
Not the biggest fan, especially the legs, but the head? WOW, that head is soooooo good
Thank you Jang. You did your homework including the Transformer lingo. I'm a Transformers fan too. It saddens me to see this is a parts-former, super-deformed, has stickers, and it does not appear to have storage for the gun. Imo, the stickers aren't a problem, you could leave them out, they certainly aren't that intrusive. Besides, I like that the license plate says "GLDBUG."
these being a parts former i can be ok with it’s lego and even prime was a parts former a bit it’s cuz of lego limitations
Fun Fact: The original Bumblebee toy wasn't meant to be an accurate representation of a Volkswagon beetle, but was instead modelled after a penny racer. AS a result, most of the Bumblebee variations that have come out over the past 40 years have resembled a beetle without being accurate. We need a megatron Lego set next
They won't because LEGO doesn't do tanks, and they would ruin Megatron anyways. Soundwave would be far more likely. Praying for a Soundwave with Laserbeak
I would love soundwave he was my favourite!
Soundwave of star scream!
Oh I’m saving my money now
What’s going to make or break this one for me, is knowing if it’s possible to leave the windshield in place on the robot mode. That’ll hurt the look of the robot mode, obviously, but I prefer that over partsforming such a critical component.
It shows on the back of the box that you can fold the windshield and place it on the spare tire 0:30
50 foot legs with no ankle articulation! Awesome...
BUMBLEBEE -> “it looks really small…”
Uhh…yeah, he tiny. That was like his whole deal >.>
To me this is a big miss. G1 is pretty simple designs and Lego has already done a Beetle. Just feel this could’ve looked A LOT better.
LEGO has always been afraid of knees. Remember Bionicle? Molded knees, but unmoveable. Then the Exo-Toas had knee joints, but locked in place.
I want one, but for 60$ its not worth much more than that
Hey JANG. I always look forward to these videos you do, you rock brother.
I'm just here for Jang's comments on the "Lifestyle Photos" lol.
4:32 You are pretty bang on for that statement. At least you can get lego whenever you want as long as it's not a retired product for MSRP
This looks really epic!
While not as nicely excecuted as the Optimus Prime still an admirable attempt. I think this will display/feel better in person than the pics suggest. That face print though is on point. Definitely getting this alongside Optimus in July.

I didn’t know Guy Pierce was into Lego!
Good quick look.

The face of the vehicle looks like a smile! 😀

Agreed, that big gap above the waist looks awful.
Thanks for such a great, fun channel. Appreciate you and all you do. 👏

Cool set
Seeing this at a reasonable price is refreshing after seeing the near $100 Optimus hot wheels car we just got
I wanna like it more than I do
We need an "Everyone's money's welcome!" version of the LEGO movie theme...
I like that it's smaller because that's accurate. The legs look really bad though, especially from behind.
I want it. It’s a transformer. It’s bumblebee. It’s not a good looking Volkswagen Beetle, but it’s more important that it transforms and that it does
Bumblebee feels like a much harder challenge to make a transforming figure of, compared to Optimus. The partsforming is a bummer though. Transformers are the main thing I collect these days, but there is so much I want and only so much I can spend, so I think Ill pass on this.

Transformers roll out looks amazing great preview jang 👍
Can you make a review on the Lego Batman the animated series Batmobile please
I'm holding out for Soundwave (fingers firmly crossed)
Lol it actually checks out with the g1 toy for the legs
Should've been Soundwave with laserbeak but hey, at least we're getting more.

I can't help it, but i need that next to my Optimus Prime... Not the best, but complementary to Optimus Prime it looks awesome. I'm sure!
There is going to be another LEGO Transformers Set! ✊🤩✊

I actually prefer this one over the optimus. The car form here seems like it'll be more stable that optimus' truck form
The most clever thing is using axe heads for his horns.
My prayers have been answered
Jang That looks amazing
How does this have a better back than the masterpiece 😭😭😭
Parts-forming, yeah....but Hasbro's last official G1 Bumblebee and Cliffjumper was also a parts-former for lazy design reasons. At least this one makes a little more sense.
If this set is a success, do we get Grimlock next?
Wouldn't be surprised for a third one they don't just reuse the skeleton to make cliffjumper
I think Soundwave would’ve been a much better choice for many reasons.
There's things I don't like about this, but nothing I can't fix.
Definitely Pros and Cons
The vibe I'm getting from this one is lego clone.
Looks great ❤🇦🇺 haven’t got prime yet
I'm so looking forward to Bumblebee. He might not be quite as good as Optimus but I'm still getting him.
For a person that was collecting G1 this is awesome and many transformers you removed pieces and attached to other spots
The prime is a lot better but this looks like it does pretty well with what it has available
Perhaps we'll get our transforming Lego constructicons after all.
It looks good as a robot and in scale with prime. As a car? Eh... but the fact it's a converting Lego? You got to give credit to the Lego designers. I'm in!!!
I think G1 Soundwave would translate well to lego

Wow
why didnt they make it the camaro

$90 isn't too bad for 950 pieces, but this one might be a pass from me.
The prime was better , but too fragile on my side due to to the central core design 😭. Hope it will be solved this time
Imagine a triple changer character in a Lego set
Manbun alert!!! 😆😆😆
I want this to be a success so I get G1 Soundwave with cassettes.
His shoulders look a little too highset, his torso's a little weird, and his legs are kind of weird. The Aranobilis98 version, although a bit complicated, looks so much better
Was really looking forward to getting this one to put with my optimus - until I saw it.
Lego can and should do better
Now I gotta get optimus
i am left with the sense they could have done better given more time and/or more room to play with
-Its too big, gigantic compared to Prime.
-The backpack is horrendeous.
-Its a take-apart-former.
Easy pass.
I think it looks awful, but I'm pleased that they're doing more of these. Wake me up when they have _Starscream_ or _Soundwave._
Prime was better, but I’m still sold. Will wait for your affiliate link to buy!
I'm not a transformers *fan but I do have a g1 bumblebee on me so its stocky appearance isn't bothersome.
Then again this model still is pretty lackluster. Couldn't even not make Bumblebee a partsformer
Would love to see deceptions but lego won't make war machines
Doesn't look like a VW Beetle at all. Much worse than optimus
Lego is a small indie company. They can't afford license from VW.
Still waiting for the Jaws boat
Man, talk about a good surprise.
As a Transformers fan and a LEGO fan, I love this… 🐝
