Is Cruising In Cunard Queens Grill Worth It?

- Discover all you need to know about cruising in Cunard Cruise Line’s Queens Grill to decide if it is really worth spending the money to cruise this premium way. I explore the Suites, Dining, Facilities, Perks and (importantly) the cost! I have spent over 150 nights cruising in Queens Grill around the world and learnt many things about the benefits and downsides of a cruise in Cunard Queens Grill. I share all of this in this video.
Cunard ships have four main grades: Queens Grills, Princess Grill, Britannia Club and Britannia. Each have their own restaurant and you dine based on the category you are cruising in. Queens Grill is the most premium of all.
If you want to support Tips For Travellers consider booking your next cruise (in Cunard Queens Grill or any other grade or line) using this link: www.tipsfortravellers.com/crui...

I made friends with Queen's grill passengers on Queen Mary 2. I felt like Jack from Titanic ( I was in Britannia class) as I couldn't go visit them in their private bar....but I could look in the window from deck 7.
It’s an extraordinary experience. We did it for our 20 wedding anniversary. So glad we did it, but now my husband is spoiled.
Thank you Gary, this is the video I have been waiting for.
Awesome ! Great to hear 😀😀🤗
Thank you. I very much appreciate the time you take to do these videos and share them with us.
Mr. Gary, what a wonderful video. Thank you for the great tips.
Excellent review, looks so classy and would be an amazing treat!
Thank you it clarified a lot about service within Queens Grill cabins. Look forward other videos
This dining looks amazing! I love afternoon tea. We are definitely going to need to travel on Cunard sometime
Thank you, Gary. Very helpful. Planning to go on a Cunard cruise.
I sailed in the Queens Grill in 1982 but it was a cruise. We were upgraded. The food was OK but I am sure that the Brittania food was just as good. What I loved was the lounge where we had tea.On the QE2 the bathroom was a normal tub. Nothing fancy like this.
We just completed an Alaska trip on the Queen Elizabeth. We booked and paid Q6 with room to be assigned later; when it was assigned we were in a Q3 Penthouse. We did not complain. The service, meals, and accommodation were excellent, to the point that we are now spoiled (previous trips were: lower first class room on QE2 in 1982; inside room eastbound transatlantic on Queen Mary in 2005; obstructed view balcony room on Queen Mary Quebec-New York in 2019; Princess Grill westbound transatlantic on Queen Mary in 2022). So during this Alaska trip we went to the future voyage office and booked Queens Grill on Queen Anne Southampton-Rome and back in September 2024. Again, room to be assigned later. Here's hoping!
Another first class review. Please keep up the great information as the wife an I look forward to the next video.
Great to hear thanks. Really appreciate you watching and then taking time to comment. Much appreciated !!
Very detailed and immersing experience into the World of Cunard! Thank you, Gary! It requires a lot of determination, dedication and stamina to travel every month… Truly remarkable and admirable!
Thanks Gary for all that info - I've just booked the queens grill on the QM2 later this year as a little splash out weekend and this video is really useful (a per usual) You're always my go to source of info for things like this.
Thanks for watching! When you booked? We rescheduled this year’s QM2 crossing to May 2021 and hoping all gets sorted so it happens .....
@@tipsfortravellers that should have said *next* year not this year 🤦🏻♀️ - have to wait until Nov 2021but also got a week booked over Easter too on QE
Thank you for the eloquent overview.
Brilliant video! So good to be able to have a look around :-)
Thanks 😀😀
I went on Queen Victoria Princess Grills Baltics Cruise and Loved it. Same access to the Lounge and outdoor areas. Liked having our own table in Princess Grills Dining Room breakfast lunch and dinner. Less than Queens Grill but still exclusive.
The Titanic bow.decor,posters,pictures,sculptures,everywhere,such thoughtful design.
Very nicely done! We’re sailing in June - Vancouver - Queens Grill (for the very purposes noted in your video).
Thanks for all your videos Garry, I appreciate the info even though I have been on over 20 cruises myself. Have you ever been on Oceania Cruises? I would love to try them.
Princess Grill is only slightly less luxurious than Queens; there's little need
to splurge. If you're lucky Cunard often upgrades to Queens at no extra cost.
GOOD STUFFS at last you provide the Subtitle what a treat always enjoy watching the posting however due to my communication background only been able to understand less than 50% 0f the content now we are even you speak your language I read my English what a sensational feeling Great
Thank you for the lovely video! It looks like such a classy, traditional experience. Something hard to find these days. I hope to cruise with this line at least once.
Thanks, good to hear you enjoyed it. It is a great experience.
Love your videos very much. We are planning a move to Portugal from California. We have a small dog, so the kennel on the QM2 works for us. We’re not a fan of playing dress up, so we will stay in our cabin and order room service between visiting hours at the kennel.
Great video!
thanks for the fantastic video. me and my future wife have just book a transatlantic crossing next September for our honeymoon, can't wait. we put our name down for an upgrade would be amazing to be somewhere like this.
Doing the Queen’s Grill transatlantic next year. Thanks Gary for a terrific video.
It is a fabulous experience in QG. I am sure you’ll have a fabulous time. Great to hear you enjoyed the video
Lucky!
Very nice video detailing what to expect when booking the Queen's Grill experience. Personally I don't think it is worth the cost for someone such as myself with limited discretionary income. I'm happy for those who can afford to travel this way, but I would be able to do several voyages in a lesser category and still have an enjoyable experience. Leaving in a couple of days for a 7 day on the Celebrity Edge. We decided to splurge and booked a sky suite to celebrate a few milestones we experienced in 2019. Happy Thanksgiving & a Merry Christmas to everyone with best wishes for the New Year.
Great Info !!!
What a fun video to watch after getting back from a pan-Pacific cruise on the Queen Elizabeth. Went San Francisco to Sydney and flew back early this month. Sis and I had a Britannia balcony cabin and at one point we agreed that we didn't need anymore luxury than we had. It was a fabulous cruise. Thank you for sharing your vid of the rarified world of the Queens Grill. We didn't feel excluded from anything while on the QE. Hope to travel with Cunard again.
Thanks ! Great to hear your experience and thoughts
Looks like breakfast menu includes fried eggs with English bacon and sausages, omelettes with herbs and mushrooms and other dishes you would expect in every dining room on ship.
Just travel from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona on the Queen Elizabeth…Queens Grill…fabulous
Could you do a video on the Britannia storeroom? @tipsfortravellers
We are quite excited to be finally going QG on QE in December while she in Australia.
This is similar if not the same as NCL The Haven. Great video thanks
Thanks. Though unlike the Haven everything is not all in one area and space but same concept overall as you say !
This is what we are booked on in April 2023, Queen Mary 2.
Good information to know. If it weren't for you doing these video's most of us wouldn't know about the extra's onboard ship. But my concern is it must be so expensive that most people couldn't afford this small bit of luxury.
That's more my type of cruising.
Thank you.
What about spa lounge access? Is that included or do you have to fight to get onboard early and hope for the best with the purchase of a separate spa pass? Seems like it should be included.
Nice! I've never been aboard Queen Victoria or (the new) Queen Elizabeth although I've crossed the pond many times aboard QE2 and QM2 and always in Queens Grill accommodation. I concur absolutely! It is worth the extra fare.
Great to hear, thanks!
It is only worth it if you have the money to spend on it. That said, as a once in a lifetime experience, you could get a new mortgage or personal loan.
thanks!
Although I find Cunard very expensive and having decided to book interior or porthole accommodations, I am going with the Queen's Grill. Your commentary and videos persuaded me that I need to experience that level of service, dining and accommodations, together with the added benefits which are included in the fare. Cunard's luxury awaits me. And, I hope to meet you soon on a Cunard sailing, Gary. Greetings from Canada.
Where are you sailing to if I may ask? I'm planning on going to the UK and want to take the New York to Southampton run.
@@RabidNemo Hello, Transatlantic New York-Southampton, return, in 2022. However, I noted that many of the crossings are already booked in the category I was looking to book. These sailings are very popular and are booked at least one year if not two years in advance. I hope you get to sail soon.
@@Layla-yr5ef My girlfriend and I are trying to get things I figured out. She's currently in the process of getting re-licensed to be a certified care nurse because the pharmacy she was working at was giving her poor hours and low pay for the position.
Even if I had the money I sure wish I could justify the cost of one of those grand duplex suites. They're absolutely jaw-dropping
@@RabidNemo I wish you and your girlfriend the best of luck. It has been difficult for many of us these past 18 months or so. Sometimes challenging times help us reevaluate our life and give us the incentive to pursue better avenues for the future. I am confident things will fall into place and that you both will enjoy a wonderful cruise together. The wait will be worth it. Be blessed always.
@@Layla-yr5ef Thank you very much for the well wishes! To you as well. Has tempted as I am to go for one of the queen's grill level It's pretty spendy for a one-way trip so I'll most likely go with the Britannia club balcony if anything. I plan on spending about a month in the UK mostly in Scotland so I think the money could be better spent while staying in the UK.
I mean I was looking at this place up in Scotland and for about $600 US you can stay in the penthouse for a week! I would much rather put the money towards staying in nice hotels than paying for one of the suites on the Queen Mary. It's not that they're not nice it's just 90% of the cost is fuel charges and boat maintenance
scotsmanhotel.co.uk/penthouse-suite/
Great!
We sailed recently on the queen Mary 2 in princess grills and it was a real trip. The only way to go if you can afford.
Can you leave a bag with Cunard once you get to the UK for a few months? I don't want to carry suits across Europe. If so, do you know how much they charge? Does the Southampton train station have lockers big enough for a suit bag (folded) to fit?
Outstanding information
May consider travel transatlantic cruise as a once in a lifetime experience
Thanks, It is a great trip and hope you get to try it!
Victor Washington - Be careful. Once you try you will probably get 'hooked'.
Absolutely 😀😀
Thank you for this, really informative,we’re booked for Xmas and new year 2019 & 2020,never been with Cunard before always P&O but their standards have fallen so badly, even for suite passengers,so can’t wait to try Victoria, sooooooo exciting
Welp now u can't
Oh for the old days of the P&O Line... I feel so lucky to have done 5 sailings in the 1960s as kid.
@@timdick825 Ha ha! Had so much fun as a kid in the '60s running all around those open decks on the original Oriana during a trans Pacific journey! Now ships fill them with balcony cabins. (Which are great too.)
It's the price of my next two Cunard cruises so I prefer two cruises instead of one plus most if not all guests are so civilized compared to many other cruises.
This is exactly how we want our first cruise experience to be yet my Hubs isn't sure trans Atlantic would suite him. Does this Queens Grill experience travel shorter distances and closer to shore? Thank you dear.
Yes. It is worth it
I do fancy crossing the Atlantic as a treat to myself now I have retired. I was a little put out when you described the restaurant with the large table where they seat solo travellers. I would be solo. And I am very happy with my own company. I spent enough years in corporate with enforced jollity. Will they do a table for 1?
Of course! They should definitely be able to accommodate you by yourself on a 2 person table. I
I feel you, when you mentioned Corporate enforced jollity. I always hated the after dinner drinks banter at conferences...
Ask the Maitre'D to sort it out
Why not eat in your stateroom? No extra charge.
Great review.......... can't wait now for our fist visit on the ship week on Sunday in the Quens Grill.
Thanks! Have a great tour! Which ship you touring?
The Queen Victoria
Nice! That’s the ship I just got off on Tuesday 😀
What a coincidence!
When will they have gratuities, wifi, and drinks included?? Cunard needs to get w the times
Very informative thank you especially regarding your comments on the a La Carte menu. I have booked a Q5 on the Baltic Trip in May and was somewhat shocked that Cunard dropped the price by £3000 a week after I upgraded. Seems unfair, but has taught me a lesson for the future! ( Cunards comment was " well you would not complain if the price went up).
Thanks for adding your experience. They once dropped the price a lot after I booked and I asked what they would do and they upgraded me even further....
That's an interesting question. We paid $250 a day for two in an inside cabin five years ago, this equates to at least a third cheaper. Since we have the time, we would choose to travel three times longer by choosing the cheaper option. Our 30 day trip was wonderful and affordable.
That's the way I'm looking at it! As nice as it as it is to be in the queen's grill when you factor in the return trip cost It makes it more than worth it.
I was just today looking at a hotel in edinboro that for a four-night stay in their penthouse was only about $600 total. Although it's nice to have the extra amenities there's so much to do on board the Queen Mary 2 that You really only need a place to sleep.
I feel it all comes down to “know thyself”…
If ur going on transatlantic (3-4 days at sea) trip but are:
1) Introverted, appreciate luxury, & like to lounge on vacay then its likely the Grill rooms would result in the most favorable experience.
2) Someone who enjoys the thrill of budget travel & finding amazing deals, extroverted & likely to spend all ur non-sleeping time outside the cabin then its likely to feel disappointing for the $$.
Are all the beds two twin smashed together?
I think if you use a number and am, that means in the morning. So if a person says 10am in the morning, it's redundant.
While Cunard stick to 2 dinner sittings in Britannia there is no other choice than Queens or Princess. The rat races to the restaurant at 6 and 8.30 almost sink the ship. Possibly Club Balcony?
Gary do a Queens grill tour
The Queens Grill is the Suite I would take, if I could afford a World Cruise or a Transatlantic cruise
It's my dream to take a cruise on the Queen Mary II.
Mine too.
For what do I need a butler?
If you like orderly peacefulness with your class, then Cunard is the way to go. Ordinary Britannia balcony staterooms are all you need. Nothing better than sitting in the sun, watching the world go by on sea days. If you have the wealth to upgrade, why not? but there is no need as the food is just as good and room service is still available in Britannia. These ships become your friends the more you use them. I miss the QE2.
Another great video Gary, we love Queens Grill and agree with what you say. In our opinion Queens Grill combines the luxury of regency etc. but with a big ship feel. Terrible to say but you do feel elevated in Queens Grill, not in a bragging way though, it just gives you a lovely feeling during the voyage.
We are back in Queens Grill in December which we are really looking forward to. First time in the Grills on the Victoria as we usually very loyal to QE being Favourite ship. It will be interesting to see the subtle differences like the wet bar in the Suite as QE doesn't have them on the Penthouses for some reason.
I believe this was your Hamburg trip, we are doing same on QM2 from Southampton to Hamburg in May flying back the same day we disembark the QM2. Are there any tours or transfer/tours available so we can experience Hamburg before the flight? Cunard aren't able to answer and say we may find out details when on the ship? Many thanks
Thanks! Also for adding your experience and thoughts. There was a shuttle bus into the city that goes to the City Hall and were a few tours in the morning of the orientation type so those could work!
OK thanks, I think we will play it by ear as our flight is mid afternoon, hopefully Cunard will lay on something. When we got off in New York we had a city tour included in the transfer so maybe something similar again will avail itself once we are on the ship.
Thanks, Gary; we've avoided Cunard and P&O so far; we're fans of Celebrity, Princess, Holland America although we're Brits. If we could only go Britannia I don't think we'd be interested in trying this but Queen's Grill is of interest. Now, where is that lottery win???!
yes a lottery win would be a great help there :-) :-)
$1000 a day per person? Any chance we can travel in steerage like Leo DiCaprio in "Titanic"?
@Gary Hello, Gary ! My wife and I will be travellling in the Queen Mary 2 Queens Grill on June 29 -July 6, 2024, and again on December 21, 2024 - January 3, 2025. We have a simple question for you. Are there any public restrooms on board aside from the one in our QG staterooms ? If so, where can we find a list of their locations ? We only ask because we are older, less mobile travellers than most and do not want to be cut short if we happen to be far away from our stateroom when the need strikes. Thank you in avance for answering and thank you for the great videos that you post.
Yes there are many. You can download a PDF of the deck plans if you ant to have that handy from the Cunard site, but also there are deck plans around the floors, mostly at the elevators, that show that deck layout and where things like the toilets are
@@tipsfortravellers Thank you very much, Gary !
Very nice video Gary. Great to see what the Queens Grill looks like. I had the privilege of cruising on the QE2. Stayed in a junior suite. Was happy as a clam at high tide. On the bucket list is a trans Atlantic cruise on Cunard. Would love to experience the luxury suites and dining in the Queens Grill.
Thanks! The Transatlantic is fantastic! Hope you get to do it sometime soon. Doing it in Queens Grill is really something special
Tips For Travellers
Gary, how many days is a trans Atlantic crossing? From South Hampton to New York? I know you gave some info on cost but approx what will be the total cost for a cruise like this? And I assume gratuities in addition?
It's a really good video.
But what do I do with my dinner clothes and other unwanted luggage during my European stay of 2-weeks before I sail back?
I don't want to drag my unwanted suitcase(s) all over England and France.
Does Cunard offer any facility where I can store my stuff upon arriving in the UK, and returning it to me upon boarding my return sailing?
That would be great!
Stuart
There is a service that will send your luggage to your home, or whatever address you give them.
Great videos about Cunard ships. I have to agree with you about dining in the Queens Grill; probably the best food I've ever had-and they would serve virtually anything I asked for. As for the legendary "White Star Service" it is impeccable! The only place I've had dinner that was more impressive is the White House. (But the food was better on QM2)
Edward McIlwain same I did round world Queens grill QM11 and the food was Devine.
wonder how much this relates to Princess Grill
Photo of caviar is actually sour cream ...With a bit of caviar lol
It's worth it!
agree
Yes, it is worth every cent................
The Queen Elizabeth is one of a few best cruise ships afloat. Will I pay extra for the Grill suites? The answer is no. Thanks for the video.
It is not a "cruise ship" it is an ocean liner.
I’ve been torturing myself by looking up the menu on the Cunard website - and this just makes it worse! Thanks for the video!
Grill??? What are the putting on the grill?
Queens Grill ! What kind of marketing is that? A outdoor grill on tripod legs evoke elegance in a motel room .?
But why are the more exclusive classes called Grills? The name sounds like a restaurant.
They are linked to the restaurant that you eat in based on the grade, so you are spot on!
Did you like the Commodore Club on QV?
Yes! Love being up looking over the bow
What if you are a lone traveler will they place you on a table with others. Thinking when I win the lottery 😁😂
Amazing video as always!
although I can appreciate that Cunard is going for the more traditional style, the furniture seems quite old. I wish they found a way to maintain that traditional look with newer furniture and facilities. The TV for instance look very old
QM2 has gone through a recent refit so you should find flat-screen TVs, etc. (Having said that, if you're watching TV on your trip, you probably should have stayed home!)
6:12 looks like a cemetery 🪦
Very old- fashioned in its decor but I guess most of the passengers who travel in this class are elderly.
I sailed on the old QE2 before it was retired and the average age of the passengers was 80.....it was like being on a a floating nursing home!
I was 30 at the time.
Calvin Smith I'm 26 and I'd love to cruise on such a beautiful ship. There's nothing so bad about chatting with older people.
Any luck with with those chicks? LOL
Do a search for Carly Simon on the QM2 - look at the age of the couples dancing.... I would but them no older than 45-50. With many a lot younger. The QM2 is for people of any age who enjoy (and can afford) traditional cruises - getting dressed in black tie, etc for dinner.
Moosey1789 Your forgetting all the new money from tech companies, etc. Plenty of 30-40yr olds have time and money.
I’m only 20 and I’ve dreamed of the day I’d get to sail on a luxury cruise liner. Something about old fashioned travel, onboard a ship as you look out the window and see nothing but ocean. Just gives it a retro feel like I’m onboard a classic ocean liner from the 40s making my way to New York. It sure beats uncomfortable air travel. The only boat I’ve been on so far was a water taxi lol.

Why do you pay Gratuities on top of what you have already paid . Is it not possible to leave gratuities off your main bill ,and tip accordingly when you feel it is merited ... Is it Compulsory that gratuities are added to your ship account ?????+
They are auto added but you can go to the reception desk and ask them to be removed or changed to a different amount and tip individuals in cash if you wish
Can my poodle travel with my in the Queens Grill?
They mention on the website that dogs are allowed so I’d inquire about if they’re allowed in the staterooms or if they’re board in the on-ship kennel when not with you.
i cant afford a city bus let alone a cruise. is there any way to travel for free?
@@JulieWallis1963 tx julie. any recommendations for a 58 year old woman?
Do I need to drag along a tuxedo??
No, you can opt to wear a dark suit and tie on formal nights
Why is it called grill? is this some old english for class or something? Queens Grill sounds like a steakhouse chain in the UK. Very strange.
I have spoken to people that travelled 1st class? when I was on the on The QM2 and they informed me it was overated.
The disadvantage is you have less money to spend on in-port activities due to spending it all on the Grill on the ship. Have you ever stayed in a lower class on board Cunard? Have you done a video on it?
Lovely to see it too pricey for me.It looks very classy
Even the cheapo areas are fancy.
Do I need to take along a tuxedo/dinner clothes?

Well the Singapore/Sidney trip was binned so we are trying again on the hastily arranged New York/Eastern Caribbean trip on the same ship in February next year. Hope this will go ahead in a Q2 grade this time
Do you get access to the lifeboats if you book Britannia Class in case of an emergency or...?
Hahaha no lifeboats for lower classes….duh! 😋
Gary do I have to pay gratuities?
Yes, they are added to your on-board account
They are automatically applied to your account but you can ask for this to be removed, the first day of travel. Then you can tip as you wish, usually the housekeeping and dining staff as a minimum.
That's not queen grill it's named queen elizabeth but good video
No, standards have dropped and your cream for the afternoon tea is served in plastic containers direct from the suppliers, not exactly what you expect for £1500 a night.
Thats disheartening to hear. Especially since this comment is 2 years old I could only imagine what they're doing now. Sadly it seems more and more companies are starting to charge a premium price for less quality
