Forsberg is simply the most complete player ever followed by Crosby.
He could and did it all. He is arguably the best passer of all time, the best 2-way player of all time, the best power forward of all time, the best puck protector of all time, the gnarliest winning mentality of all time, one of the best defensive forwards of all time, one of the best dangler of all time, the best corner battle warrior of all time, invented the reversed hit, held the puck longer than anyone I’ve seen, sacrificed himself more than any other superstar ever has, adapted his game whenever necessary, one of the best puck stealers of all time, great shot, great skating.. He could and did it all.
Never cared about individual accolades, never cared about racking up points, only cared about winning; only cared about contributing to the team and being a great teammate.
Canadians talk about Gretzky, Lemieux, McDavid and those fellas being the greatest, for what? Points? Hahahah. Yeah sure. If Forsberg would have cared about points, he would have won all the scoring/assist titles every year - even during the clutch and grab era. Your arguments are ridiculous and typically North American. It’s typically Swedish to only care about winning, contributing in every possible way, to help the defense by nonstop back checking.
Look at McDavid.. he hasn’t adapted his game one bit to help the team even further to win at least one cup, although he is the captain! Look at Joe Sakic. Now there you have an intelligent captain that did all the dirty job to help his fellas win. He even played defense during pp so that Forsberg could hold the puck - which he always should be doing.
Crosby is almost as good as Forsberg and with almost the same gritty winning mentality.
Datsyuk is the best defensive forward ever, the best dangler ever, the best puck stealer ever, but lacks other things such as physical presence and winning mentality. Some days he played like he was from another planet, and some days like he couldn’t care less about winning.
MacDavid just isn’t complete and lacks wisdom/intelligence to be a true winner.
Gretzky is the Godfather of GOATs and shares the #1 spot - best passer ever, but wasn’t complete. Nor was Lemieux.
I consider Forsberg to be the GOAT, most complete player ever, icon and immortal
Crosby second - complete forward - less immortal - protégé of Forsberg and (forgot his name now)
Fedorov third - also a complete forward - immortal, first complete forward ever, trailblazer
Lemieux fourth - best goal scorer ever - immortal
Orr fifth - ahead of his time with only six teams in the league and an immortal icon
Lidstrom sixth and the most complete defenseman ever - icon and the first complete defenseman - immortal, trailblazer
Gretzky seventh - the Godfather of GOATs - immortal
Perhaps Datsyuk eighth, not sure.
After that I’m not sure.

Man was like a supervillain. His eyes would turn completely black when he decided he was going to win a game. imagine being on the opposite team and seeing his eyes just dimming out. That must have been one of, if not the worst problems anyone ever had to deal with in hockey
As a Swede in similar age as Forsberg i have seen numerous intevirews with him and his ankle/foot problem.
I think he had 7-8 operations trying to fix it but nothing helped.
He described that it felt like the skates was untied and that/ ankle/foot.
He is such a beloved person in Sweden.
Sundin and Forsberg almost made me cry when they retired.
He had the foot/ankle thing 5-6 years and still was magic.
Best player in the world in my view . The complete player.
You could really see it was a special player in the same way you see it with Mcdavid.

I've always hated the Avs but Forsberg and Sakic were always two of my favorite players! To be honest I never thought of Forsberg/Sakic as a 1-2 but more like 1A-1B!!! I also must say Forsberg is a total class act! In 1999 when my Stars played the Avs I accidentally got to meet him and He was super cool even autographed a "stars" puck for me! He was one player I hated to see against my team and one I always wished they would sign!
That whole generation, Forsberg, Sundin, Lidström, Näslund, Alfredsson...and a few others, that came out of a small country like Sweden, was unique.
Amazing hockey players the bunch of them.

As a swede loving hockey, but following players more than teams in NHL, I had so much fun watching NHL in the late nineties and early two thousands.
Not that we have bad players now, but when we had Forsberg, Sundin, Lidström, Näslund, Alfredsson more or less at their peaks at the same time almost every game I watched had a really good fellow swede to root for. And to that also all other good players, like Selänne, Kariya, Brodeur, Roy, Sakic, Yzerman, Hull, Jagr,…
I completely agree! We have some amazing players who can do amazing things today, but nothing comes close to these players we had in the 90s/early 2000s. Perhaps it's just the nostalgia. Perhaps I was just a kid back then and had more time to watch games. Whatever the case, I love how I can tap into my childhood and talk about these players again!

it was a pleasure to watch him on the ice rink. Forsberg and Jagr are were most recognizable players (and still are) by their play style. Peter the Great!!!!!

My favorite player amongst MANY ( a dozen or more of players) that played for the AVALANCHE! Highlights in life include the Avs. Would be cool to meet him one day! GO AVALANCHE!
Hockey players could do world tours after they retire and I think there'd be a lot of interest. Something along the lines of superstar alumni games.

As Swede we have had many good players such as Salming, Sundin, Lidström etc. but Foppa is still king.

A correction from the "60% vision claim". It says in the article you posted that he has 60% vision on one of his eyes.
If only injuries didn't dereail him, could have been one of the best power forwards in the game.

@@phandaddy8230 if he would have stayed heathy and played less physically and more on the offence he would have racked up 1500-1800 points. he battled for every point end to end on the ice. he didn't stand around in the slot waiting for the puck

He could not play at 100% and then he didnt want to play at only 80%

Actually, his foot problem, that forced him to eventually give up the careeer was not related to his type of game. His foot just was not acting correctly. Otherwise he would have played more.
