Well, there's sadly a need for diesel. Diesel is a more abundant source of fuel and diesel engines are far more efficient. However, if you want raw power, steam is of course going to prevail due to the extraordinary capabilities of the power of steam. I mean, steam is effectively limitless if you can harness it right!
