Videos back up! 🙌🏻Thank you for watching! Let us know which find you'd like to see in the window of wonders this week! For more adventures 👣 -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc8jD...
That's actually a pretty neat fossil! You might expect it's from a lepidodendron (a scaly tree-like fern) because it's in such an old material as shale near a coal seam but the morphology of the scale imprints shows that it's a lepidote (an early bony fish)! It's a nice big imprint too since the fish were only ~30cm long. Notice how the scale shape changes on one side to be more squished. That's where the fish's body curves around so you either have the dorsal half of the middle of one side of the fish or the back of the fish transitioning to the tail of a really big one. I'd guess it's Lepidotes maximus but you'd have to ask a paleoichthyologist to be sure. It has my vote for the window of wonders. Edit: It's shale so it'll degrade in water. Best to just keep it dusted.
That’s really interesting! Thank you so much for the information. We believe the fossils we find here are the shale thrown out from fire coal, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for more! 🥰
@@NorthernMudlarks What an incredible lot of treasures you found. Alex, you've got eagle eyes to have spotted that teensy little lavender bead. Your cat certainly was enjoying the sunshine and grass. My vote for the windowsill of wonders is the lover's ring, key, the Irish pipe and thistle pipe. Hope you both have a Happy Easter weekend. Greetings from eastern North Carolina!
The thing you found was the handle of a tiered cake stand my grandmother had one and was very proud of it, it always came out on hay days and holidays! Xx
Another great video. Can’t wait to see the find of a lifetime next week. I think that little Pug dog should have pride of place on the window this week
I can't believe you spotted such a tiny bead, almost the size of this period . . I'm grateful to have the opportunity to join you on your trips, thank you.
Thank you for taking us with you. And what amazing finds!! The German marbles were gorgeous, but, oh my, the ring with the engraving took my heart. In a close 2nd place, with the fantasy of it, was the brass key. The imagination can take you to so many fantastical places. The tiny puppy is so cute and the thistle pipe is still so crisp and beautiful. What a lovely day!! I'm already excited for next week!! Stay safe out there!!!
The pug, thistle pipe, and fossil bark (we find very similar in sandstone where I live) are my picks this week. The grouping of wonky bottles also look so lovely together.
The way they make tiny glass beads is amazing. They pull the glass out until it's very thin then quickly wind it around a pin rod. This creates the tiniest of beads. Incredible.
Fantastic finds once again ladies! I think the wedding band has definately earned its place in your window this week! The long handle type thing eith the loop at the top looks like the top handle off a cake stand to me. I've made a few myself and the modern ones are very similar looking, it would be interesting to see if it has a thread inside at the bottom of it. Thank you for a lovely virtual trip out once again to your mystery foreshore ladies x
Great video as usual. I think the ornate item with a large loop is a handle for a triple plate standould would screw into the top plate with other pieces of stand between each plate screwing inbetween the stand pieces and the centre of each plate. I'm sure I saw a small hole in the other end. 😊
That is a clock winding key that you found. The coal fossil I think is either from a plant or a reptile skin. A cake stand handle is what one of your finds looks like to me. Perhaps the ceramic pug needs a place in the window. Was pleased this video became viewable. Lying in bed on my birthday morning having breakfast watching the Northern Mudlarks. Yeah! Thanks.
My pug, Poppy, was curled up sleeping on my lap while I watched the video and I startled her awake by shouting “Awww, it’s a pug!” when you found this week’s wee animal. 😂 So I must vote for the pug. Also loved the fish fossil, the sweet ring, and the thistle pipe. Good pickin’ site, ladies!
Hello Ladies, the very very tiny seed bead is what we call a “charlotte” as they are the smallest seed beads used. I use them all the time in my jewellery work. The metal handle I use to have something like it on a afternoon tea cake platter which you would hold out to your guests to let them help themselves to a small cupcake.😊😊 Maybe one day when I finally get back to the UK I might just go for a fun time mudlarking myself when I return home to the Shetland’s 😊
It’s so hard not to try to reach through the screen to pick something up. When you asked us if we could spot the find, I thought you were reaching for the blue bead a foot to the left of the pipe. So many things to choose for the window, but I’d choose the ring or the pug. I loved your kitty posing by the beautiful sponge ware pieces. I’m glad you were able to save the video!
Fantastic 👏 👏 I love the ring 💍 your mum found 😀 put that ring on a pedestal in the window seal, Congratulations on your beautiful 1800s and ring 💍 it's my favorite !!! You two have made a killing this day, O yes, I almost forgot !! Alex, your pug nose puppy 🐶 needs a pedestal as well, and in the window it goes !! Love it 😀 this video made me feel so happy !!! And so much fun, see you next time !!!
I watched the whole video without sound! I even was able to identify a lot of the treasures you found from seeing your past videos. I found the silent video charming but I missed you giggles and sounds of joy at finding your treasures. I am so glad to be able to watch again, this time with sound, and find out how many items I got right! 😅 Please stay safe and be careful! ❤️❤️
Trash or treasure? Treasure or trash? It’s all the same in Gail’s 🙌🏻. I’ve seen you two lovely artists turn all sorts of things into beautiful objects, so nothing is rubbish. I get terribly excited by little frogs just now. My husbands friend arrived with a bucket 🪣, inside was a frog for my pond. ( we are in NZ) I could not have been more delighted if he had arrived with flowers & chocolates (which is saying a lot as I’m a confirmed chocoholic). So treasure is always in the heart of the finder. The groove in the pipe is just heart wrenching. A direct link to the past owner, although I cringe at the thought of damage to 🦷 teeth, throats and lungs. This morning we went to the funeral of a friend who died of esophageal cancer - smoking related - too, too early. I’m glad we know now, and the pipes are an historical item of curiosity. How many of the pipe smokers went too early? So sad. Another fantastic, interesting video. Thank you 🐣😊🌟😊🐣
Lovely lark with you ladies as always! The pug is precious and deserves a place in the window! I love that you are thinking about melting the knackered marbles- that will be fun to see! Thanks for all the joy and wonder!
Looking forward to next week!! I vote for the Scottish Thistle Pipe for the window!! Sending gratitude and Joy from the state of Delaware in the United States.
Beautiful finds! Amazing pipe the thistle leaf such great detail! I vote for that and the German marbles and the wee dog for the window display! I think your handle was either from a baby's rattle or a bell that one would ring for service if one was confined to a bed. Your fossil is quite amazing, I too think it was from a fish, awesome detail! Love the doll heads, makes you wonder what the rest of the figurine would of looked like. You should cast the thistle leaf pipe, really is a beautiful leaf and pipe! As a artist I love the old compass! I wonder how many children wrote on those slate boards and daydreamed while they learned to write their thoughts? I would find it very hard not to dig and sift that area for more treasures of the past. Lovely video!
I could watch you two Mudlark all day. You find some really great things. I don't know how you are able to stop and leave. You are both just lovely and enthusiastic. ❤🇺🇸
Have a marble collection from the years I lived in Germany. I didnt know there was anything special about them. Learn something new every day. I keep them in an English tea tin. Think it says Harrods or something. Must be from the 70s or earlier as I got it junking or at a flea market.
LOL! Barbie is decked out for Halloween and it's only April! My vote this week is the pug dog for the window. I had a great time virtually mudlarking with you both, as I always do. ❤

Love the kitty appreciating the spongeware! That tiny dog is amazing, it needs to go in the window along with the thistle pipe, that is really nice too... The key is quite mysterious, can't wait to see what it unlocks next week.

I love all the spongeware, and of course the little dog. In the window, though I'd like to see the thistle pipe. You always get so many great finds, it's hard to choose just one. I'm waiting for you to make another spongeware video. I'd like to see you stick to the old style designs though. I've never seen anything like that here in the States. I love that it's regional. Good day mudlarking, Girls!
Hello! To go on the window sill this week the wee pug dog is my choice. It was difficult to choose between the dog and cut glass bottle stopper. Also, the blue iridescent bead is beautiful. Thank you for your wonderful videos, so beautifully edited
What a lovely exposition on the brass ring! I believe the fossil is Lepidodendron, one of the common tree ferns of the Carboniferous period, when much of today's coal was formed. It had a scaly bark often mistaken for reptile or fish scales.
I have an idea for the school slates. You could paint inspiring words or phrases on them then put a hanger on the back so they can be displayed on a wall. The smaller ones could be attached to a wood plaque. I love the fossil and the marbles and hope you are planning to film the melting of the marbles. Wonderful idea. Just when I think you can't possibly improve your already awesome channel you prove me wrong. It has been a pleasure to watch the progression of it over the years. Thank you for all of your hard work and sharing your journey.
Amazing new video! I just LUV you two! Hmm, I feel the tiny pug is a good window find, but then my romantic side goes over to the beautiful, stunning KEY you found. So beautiful, even has a heart shaped top. It must go to a jewelry box. I’ll wait for the next video to find out! ❣️
i love the sound of bone being used in wind chimes, so the bone handles and all could be hung from antique chains and the noise is so pretty, dense. and secretive.
Well you found some really lovely finds on this lark ladies. I adored the key all green and weathered. The thistle pipe was beautiful and so ornate and the little pug dog was so charming. I also fell most of all for the ring. I found it so sad that a treasured possession which stood for so much in someones life, ended up in the bin. Lost, but now found again. I'm looking forward to your next episode. I'm excited to see what you found . Xx
The four unusual four pipes were interesting especially with the information you found. The little pug is a darling. I liked the second marble in the row. With the chip out of it, the colors in it are more vibrant. Thank you for taking us along. God bless.
Gail & Alex, my guess for the metal decorative meta piece with the swirly end and flat bottom is that perhaps it is a decorative Victorian screen door latch. The kind that is used to keep the screen door open when transporting goods into a home so one can do it hands free or when moving furniture into a home, the screen door latch would be quite a modern convenience. This is probably very far off, but it's always fun to "imagine" what these wonderful treasures from the past might be! Super Mudlarking day you two had!
This was a really fruitful day girls.Nice weather and lots to find. What more can you ask for lol.I do love going on the trip with you !and enjoy the finds as much as you do ..Love n Light 🥰
I so enjoy your videos. The music and your photography is wonderful, along with the history and stories you tell of the treasures you find. I too love the bits of sponge ware you find. Lot of pipe bowls found this time especially the thistle bowl. My father is from Scotland. I think your little pug should go on the window sill. Have fun on your next adventure I will be watching.
Hello Gail and Alex thank you for bringing joy into my day when it has been a rough day! I Love and appreciate you so much! Have a Wonderful Happy Easter!!!!
Oh my goodness that tiny Pekingese or pug dog is adorable 34:46 It’s like a miniature version of those classic Staffordshire figurines. And the Adult kangaroo/wallaby with the baby Joey is beautiful and I suspect very unusual too. 38:25 the nail clippers, as we know them today were first manufactured in the mid to late 1870s. So those nail clippers just might be a lot older than you think 🙂
Hello from Northern California! I think the thing you found at 12:37 is the top part of a multi tiered serving thingy....you know, for serving tea sandwiches & scones & petite fours at afternoon tea. There would be 2-3 pretty plates ( or silver) separated by metal rods & your piece would be the top part enabling one to pick up the whole stack to move it. Well... that’s my guess. I have a couple myself. Thank you for bringing us all so much JOY, you two women are absolutely delightful & you have brightened my days Thank you 🐾❣️
I vote for the little pug, the brass ring and the pipe with the thistle leaf design to go into the window. Can't wait for next week's video. Sounds great. 🌷
I have to say that your videos are a pleasure to watch: fine photography and filming; lovely music; your two cheery, excited faces; and, finally, a load of lovely finds! Keep up the great work, Gail and Alex! You made laugh with the skull 💀 atop good ‘ol Barbie’s head!😆
I think the pug puppy and the thistle leaf pipe were my favorites for the window. You found wonderful things on this adventure! The Goldilocks, doll parts, German marbles, and the key were all fantastic!
So many fun finds!! I like to look with you. I’m always thinking you’re going for one thing. But then you come up with something else. It’s so much fun Treasure Hunting with you.
Great lark, great finds! The Irish pipe and the pug are window worthy! I also really loved the bottle you did the history on. Those bubbles are so cool. I love your “Cheeky” comments Alex! I’m sure Mick does also! 🤣🤣🤣
The object at 13:05 with the loop at the top is part of a serving dish. It fits into a whole in the center of a dish Maybe used to serve dainty morsels for tea!
Hi, another delightful riverlark packed full of treasures. Loved the marbles and the fossil and suggest either of those for the window. Looking forward to next weeks video. Thanks for the adventure this week xx
That was realy enjoyable.i think its always calming when your down by the water.i think the little pug dog should gi into the window as a pet for Barbie but i don't think he would like the skull mask on her.so glad i was able to watch it there was no sound before.

The little dog and the cut glass stopple bopper get my vote.
I second the little pug. So cute!
The pug figurine.
The cute miniature pug should be placed in the window. I so want to visit Scotland and England, maybe one day.
Tiny dollhouse pet, (Siamese cat or Pug dog?) and the treasure box key, please.
I love how you’re showing the item cleaned up and giving info as you find it! Really keeps your attention! ❤️
I love the little history bits as well.
Yes.
Agreed! Love the history that goes along with the item, thank you!

Thank you so much for all you do! ( :
How gorgeous, more sponge wear and a pipe. Then a beautiful German marble next to an awesome coin! ( : Wow. Good eyes. Gail! I would not have noticed the headless cow, I don't think! It blended right in! ( : You and Alex both have amazing eyes for beautiful, mysterious finds from the past! ( : Wow. The cobalt blue bead you found was gorgeous, Gail! And you got a leg up for reward! Yayyyyyyy! ( : Holy moly, why did someone leave such gifts for you guys! That pipe bowl you got, Alex, embossed with thistle leaves is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! And, now you guys got an arm and a leg! Yayyyyyyy! ( :
A cod ball! Yesssss! ( : Free that cod ball! Woo hoo! ( : Oooh ..that beautiful face will go great with your mom's figurine body she found. Frankenstein them together like Sarah does in her craft videos! ( : Yessss! ( : I think you found a cat! Yesss! It is sooo cute! ( : I should've recognized the pug face, we have a pug at our house, Bug the Pug! ( :
Yayyyyyyy! Another German marble! German Marble Day! Woo hoo! ( : 4 German Marbles! What a beautiful Australian plate too, Gail! ( : And an Irish pipe too! I am Scottish and Irish, mostly, so I am excited! I want to see the Scottish and Irish pipes in the window this week, selfishly! Lol! ( :

Beautiful finds!
Thank you! 🥰
Thank You!!
You're welcome! xx
Beautiful poem Gail!!
Love your vids they are very educational xx
So many wonderful things again Let everything
I think the pug doggie and the beautiful ring should be showcased in the window! Another great mudlarking trip!
"It's a dolls house dog cat thing!" Absolutely priceless.🤣
Love the green key Gaikl!!
Thank you for inserting beautiful little bits of contemplative nature scenes into your videos!
Another fun lark with The Northerns.
Wonderful vid ladies!! Thank You for sharing this with us!!
Thank you! You're so welcome! xx
That headless doll would make such a fun little vase!
Yay finally got sounds! Much better.
Oh great! We still have no idea what went wrong before!
Hello Gail and Alex thank you for bringing joy into my day when it has been a rough day! I Love and appreciate you so much! Have a Wonderful Happy Easter!!!!
Hello 👋 Sorry to hear about your day. Hope you enjoy the video 🥰✨
I didn’t want this video to end. So many fascinating finds. The Scottish and Irish pipes seemed to be really nicely made thankyou to both of you❤️🙏🐇🦆🦉
Loved the pipe with the Thistle leaves. Such amazing finds. Thanks fir another grand adventure!!
Another lovely lark! My vote is for the fish scaled coal, key and ring! :D Cannot wait for next week! Thank you ladies!
The pug dog and small German marble for the window sill. The ring was a great find too.
Oh my goodness that tiny Pekingese or pug dog is adorable 34:46
It’s like a miniature version of those classic Staffordshire figurines.
Thank you for bringing us all so much JOY, you two women are absolutely delightful & you have brightened my days Thank you 🐾❣️
I am addicted to your videos. Can't put them down. Wish I was there with you.
I vote for the little pug, the brass ring and the pipe with the thistle leaf design to go into the window. Can't wait for next week's video. Sounds great. 🌷
What can I say Ladies! Just another wonderful adventure! Congrats on the treasures! 👍👍
LOL! The skull on the Barbie. I would love to see the sweet little pug on the windowsill next week. Xo
Brilliant collection today! Fascinating! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
It was fun to watch! Great finds 👏
The little dog and the thistle pipe for the window please and thank you for taking us along on your river lark once again.
Thank you. Enjoy your adventures, ,finds and creations. Wonderful.
I'm a new subscriber. It's so wonderful to have a hunting partner to share excitement with!!
I love the history behind the finds, and how cleaned up turn into great things
Thought I was going batty when I went to watch your video a few mins ago that I saw uploaded earlier and then it was gone lol.
Haha, yes some went a bit wrong. Glad it’s back up! 😊
The little pug dog figurine, the thorn pipe, and the cut glass Bottle stopper, and the Key are all great nominations for the window
Nice seeing all your finds on Pipe Bowl River. Loved the marbles and thistle pipe bowl. Some lovely finds for the dolls house xx
My vote is for that lovely tiny pug. So sweet. Also can't wait for the next video, you've left us on a cliffhanger there lol. 😊😊
Great lark, great finds! The Irish pipe and the pug are window worthy! I also really loved the bottle you did the history on. Those bubbles are so cool. I love your “Cheeky” comments Alex! I’m sure Mick does also! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Terri! Alex is still on the naughty step after last Sunday 😂
The object at 13:05 with the loop at the top is part of a serving dish. It fits into a whole in the center of a dish Maybe used to serve dainty morsels for tea!
My vote is for the little doll house pug dog & the key. Thanks again for taking us along!🥰
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️ We love being by the river. Little pug is a great choice for the window 🐕
