The only people or at least a large% of anyway who are fascinated by the Krays and such like, are people who have never lived in a working class area or been surrounded by all that goes on in these places..I was born in Stepney and brougbt up in Hackney..Sure u were surrounded by mostly or a lot of pretty Crime and Criminals and that was about the strength of it.But also regular people who worked hard and struggled by Honestly..But every Once in an while I ended up in Pubs which would do after Hrs(Drinking) and then just by chance u might found urself in the Company of one these characters..Now they could be quite pleasant, funny, charming etc..But if ur instincts were decent,u always kept them at Arms length because they couldn't be trusted..Their opportunists by nature,so always on the look out and Hussle and in truth only talk to strangers,to see what they can possible get out of the situation..It's just 2nd Nature to them or a "force of habit"..

A fascinating and extremely interesting watch. These two guys love them or hate them re and will always be part of our history they were fiercely respected by many and the mere mention of their names could strike fear into the hearts of the biggest toughest men across London. They didn't ask for respect they commanded it and now they are dead people can say what they like about them but I guarantee most of the people on here wouldn't utter so much as a word of it if they grew up in 1960's London :)

Others may disagree but I find that when you hear Freddie Foreman talking about the Krays and some of the goings on from those days that he talks facts. Theres none of the usual bullshit from people trying to make out they (not the Krays) were bigger gangsters then they were and how they did this or that. With Freddie he allegedly did do this and that but theres no bragging and he describes those villains around him very accurately and honestly.

  • @freddybeer

When you read it all from the Krays point of view, the murders seem justified. (Remember, all gangsters know the score if you sign up to that life) Cornell took major liberties, called Ronnie names to anyone who'd listen, tried to instigate a war between Krays and Richardsons and went drinking in Kray manor minutes after a brutal battle in a pub where a Kray soldier was killed. Jack was a liability. He'd stolen from them, brandished a shotgun in public, said he was going to kill Reggie, smashed up Freddie Foreman's boozer. When you are at the top of the food chain, as the Krays were, the way you stay there is to send a clear message that you won't be fucked with. I don't condone homicide but to gangsters, this is a way of life. Cornell and Jack must have known what was coming.

41:10 the man said that "if you want people to change, you got to give them the opportunity to change the krays never had that opportunity" but they both had the opportunity to have a life in the army and a second opportunity to have a life as a professional boxer, how many opportunity's do they need?

Whatever you do in life, you be a man and take responsibility, look your kid's in the eye's and sleep at night. Nothing has changed i notice, the politicians, Lord's, people who have been responsible for 1000's of dead carry on being untouched.

So Fred Dinage (17.27) got Ronnie to put the muscle on the guy who had the rights to the book, so that the guy wouldn't pursue it and Dinage could carry on writing it? Erm...does he not think his journalistic ethics might be slightly compromised by that? Sounds like an Alan Partridge statement.

Michael Donaghy That isn't what you said but yeah I 100% agree with you that he took the job being fully aware of the situation. But on the other hand I believe the Kray brothers or anybody in the world as a matter of fact should be able to pick who tells their life story. Your right in what you are saying though they went about it in the wrong manner

The most notorious gangsters in British history, on what is that based ? They were the Oasis of the mobsters, in fact silly characters, but creating so much buzz around their pathetic little lives that some people automatically asume they were the most notorious. They were the most talked about, but the Richardson gang was by far more violent and more efficient than that silly twin.

pistolpeeroy i think so, but i just find it bizarre when they release a film based on real people and events yet fictionalize so much of it, why not just create whole new characters and a story based on real people but not claim them to actually represent THE people? I feel somehow that it's disrespectful to the real life memories and just misinformation to be honest as if somebody wrote a book or made a film about my life and most of it wasn't even true i would be quite pissed off lol, just one of those things that gets on my nerves, but hey, that's the movie and entertainment business i guess :)
