    We need more Barry beginner videos... he is awesome and inspiring. He doesn't talk down to us like idiots, but explains things so nicely.

    I have tried off and on for years to play an instrument but never got the hang of it. But this instrumental video gives me hope because of the simplicity of the practice. I appreciate the "practice slow, learn fast " idea.

    Excellent video! I just finished visiting the IBMA Festival in Raleigh, NC yesterday, along with my wife and two of our twin grandchildren. It was their first exposure to live Bluegrass, and it did exactly what I was hoping for…it sparked their strong interest in the music genre. So much so, I bought each of them beginner banjos…which, in turn, reignited my interest in playing banjo, so I came home and have pulled out my Deering banjo to learn and play along with them some. Your lesson here is perfect for quickly getting their interest piqued to learn these three songs and hopefully continue growing their skills from there. Thanks much!

    Hey, dude, you're a darn good teacher. I like your advice to practice slow. And you actually do it in this video.....not rushing us, and repeating the basics over and over to avoid frustration. EXCELLENT !

      +Connor Coonfare Thank you so much! We always strive to do more than make a product. The product means a lot more to people if they can find out more and appreciate it more, whether that be as a collector who simply learns more about the craftsmanship that goes into it, or a player who learns how to play it and how to maintain it. Its all good fun either way, but we are happy that you appreciate what Deering does. If you have any ideas of what else you would like to see, we are all ears! Merry Christmas from everyone here at Deering Banjo Co

    Thank you thank you thank you! I have been so lost and frustrated, trying to figure out how to play the banjo for the first time. I don't want to play "Boil Them Cabbage Down" and am SO grateful that I was able to learn 3 - count 'em - 3 songs with the 2 finger method that I actually know and can sing to. You have made the banjo fun! I am inspired now to keep learning. Thanks!

      +Sharon Cawley Thank you so much. This is exactly what we strive to do. You are now on your way, so enjoy the ride. And please refer to our blog, Hooks & Nuts for a vast amount of information including practice and playing techniques. Good luck and let us know if there is anything we can help with.

    That was ecellent! Even though i play guitar for years and know about frets and strings, this lesson was very nicely explained. Reduced to maximal simplicity. Fun, music, and contagious. What a nice guy. I found this because i‘m looking for a good entry level banjo and i guess i know what i‘m going to buy now

    Was that the two finger style?

    • @erniewms1
      @erniewms1 5 років тому +2

      That term is generally used to mean picking tunes with TWO FINGERS of the right hand. I'm sure the people at Deering didn't mean to mislead you. Look for Clif Hicks' posts to find out how to play two finger, thumb-lead.

    My # 1 problem is not touching the strings perfectly on each note and chord. I'm in my 80's and my fingers are stubby and slow. Often I practice just trying to create D7, C, D, and Am ...etc............
    Is there a practice method that would help me create the music of simple melodies ? ?
    thanx for your anwer..........

    Can someone explain why when i look up banjo chords for C and D they show differently?

    • @DeeringBanjoCo
      @DeeringBanjoCo  4 роки тому

      Are they both for 5 string banjo in standard tuning? It could be showing a 4 string banjo for one of them?

    • @darkmysterytemple
      @darkmysterytemple 3 роки тому +1

      Depends on the tuning. Open G is often considered standard in Blue Grass , but there are lots and lots of tunings. Also there are different hand shapes to make the same (well.almost the same) chords.....
