@@metroids224 Yes and no. After first remission, simplex 2 TYPICALLY only causes blisters on the lips and in the mouth, while simplex 1 can cause blisters on the lips, mouth, and genitals. Unless you are immuno-suppressed, simplex 2 usually doesn't cause genital blisters, but 'mouth herpes' may also be simplex 1.
Simplex 2 is the most common form of herpes, and in many places, you are a minority if you aren't a carrier.

I used to kiss my mom on the lips as a child and she had it. As a child I would fear any time I felt a sore about to start. Now I can handle it much better and I also don’t get it as much since I was living in stressful circumstances until my young adulthood. L-lysine is a good medication to take to prevent it from lasting longer than needed. And I love the medicated blistex balm!

@@TheJessicahammerly yeah this works wonders. Once you feel the slightest little buzz, burn, itch, or tingle, rub a tiny bit of abreeva in it. It may not always be a cold sore but its best to be sure. Abreeva is expensive and a tiny bit goes a long way. Also, try to blot your lips, not wipe them, and avoid foods that chap your lips. All this keeps me away from them for the most part.

What’s amazing is how little is known about HSV-1 in the public domain. It’s extremely common. Nearly 2/3rds of the world have HSV1, and it is extremely unlikely that transmission can occur when there is no outbreak. If you do have an outbreak? Moisturize. And don’t share utensils. That’s pretty much it. Not bad.
I always thought of it as some childhood thing that happens to everyone. You had growing pains, you had the occasional pink eye, and you got cold sores.
Not that bad people. There are vaccine efforts, but it’s a challenge. If I’m not mistaken the virus lays dormant in the spinal fluid, which has a lack of “heavy attacking”immune cells.
Edit: It’s in the nerves. You don’t want the immune system to be attacking those now.

I love this. The amount of people who come to the pharmacy shamefully asking for herp treatment is depressing. Like if you only knew that you're probably the 10th person to ask in 4 hours. That's not a joke. For us, it's like asking where the bandaids are. So common we don't even think about it. Same with STIs. If you're coming for a 4 Zpak STAT, or some wart stuff - we're not batting an eyelash. Don't sweat it. By far probably the easiest and most rewarding part of this garbage career is being entirely unphased but empathetic for these. And plan B jesus please find amy female pharmacist. Go to the counsel area and ask a tech to speak privately. We're not a*holes I promise. If you genuinely need us we'll go way beyond. If you need your percs early cos your "cat ate them" and we know genuinely not for pain/injury you're going to get put so low on the queue you can smell the sewer. That's the true piping hot tea.

People who are shamelessly addicted to their own prescribed benzos get purposely put at the bottom of the list so that you could LITERALLY be responsible for their withdrawal induced seizure in the back of the line because of your narcissistic sass? Humanity is ashamed of pharmacists like you. It's one thing to be able to have a sharp eye for junkies and assholes, but it's another to assume what a person is like purely on their prescription. You need to hate the game (big pharma, careless docs and pharmas), not the players here.

I dumped him pretty much right away because a) canker sores are not related to cold sores AT ALL, and b) cold sores should not be stigmatized in the first place.
EDIT: wow, thanks to anyone defending me but there's a lot of idiots responding to this! For one, canker sores are NOT an STD, so there's not any reason for anyone to feel obligated to mention them to a partner. Second, I'm not mentioning this 20 years later and I did explain to the person that I DUMPED what I was dealing with and why it was harmful that he acted the way he did (I do not owe any of you an explanation of the details of the breakup but for the record he was a jerk in many other ways and this was just the icing on top), and THIRD, chronic canker sores are NOT indicative of poor oral hygiene. Do you know what they are indictive of? Chronic tonsillitis! Which I have dealt with my entire life! And do you know why I no longer deal with it? Because I was finally able to get my tonsils removed! So get off of your high horses and get a life!
