Are you aware, he is reverred as lord Shiva born to his parents, shivaguru and aaryaamba, as per their wish. This Gem Shivananda Lahari is from the mouth of Lird Shiva in praise of Parvati. When Shankara visited Kailayam, the highest peak of Himalayas, to seek the Darshan of Shiva Parvati, he evinced interest in Sivananda Lahari and wanted to possess and spread it to the world with his Bashyam. SHIVA was very pleased to handover the manuscript to Sankara and sankara was overwhelmed with joy and while returning back, Sri Nandidev confronted Sankara as he did not like his Master handing over the praises on his wife Parvati. He simply removed 51 manuscripts from the total of 100 while discussing with Sankara and allowed him to go. Though Sankara was aware of Nandidev act, he came down to his Ashram. Praying to Shiva saying he is aware if what gad happened, he will write the 51 stanzas on his own and submit to him for his approval after which, he will write the Bashyam. He wrote and submitted to Shiva and on his and Umas acceptance and blessings he wrote the Bashyam and we are blessed to hear and recite it.
