This isn’t a dig but an observation for many food review sites: I respect your negative points which I think are just. I go for a treat meal normally every few months to a quality pub/restaurant. I found for 3 of us the bill would be around £150. You obviously could spend a lot more if you so wish. We all just get used to what we spend in our daily lives looking for bargains(sometimes lower quality food 🥴) but it’s not relevant to posh nosh. In fairness considering everything (rates/rents/taxes/staff/equipment/profit/etc. per head) to give you that high quality food and personal experience it won’t cost the same as ALDI or the local chippy 🙂. We generally can’t help comparing that way but as they say-you pay ur money and make ur choice 😉.❤
Was there last August...friendly and helpful...we were only there for drinks. AND THEY ACCEPTED CASH !!!! Love them for that. And the furniture's fine. Lovely place to unwind. Much love.
No you’re not bonkers! I love a bit of posh dining now and again, and that food looked fabulous. Definitely worth £35 for three courses. And what a view! Absolutely would go there if I visit the area, thanks for the recommendation! Love you two, by the way! ❤
That was 5 Star + luxury! (so envious). Can't think of anywhere even here in London where you might get that quality of food, service and sheer physical space & quiet to relax. It looked incredibly good value for money, ie good portions (no nouvelle cuisine tiny portion nonsense), quality freshly prepared food, and low profile but attentive service that gives you a breather space between courses on that stunning terrace (where else woud you find that?). I was surprised how tired some of the decor was, but on the whole what a generally fantastic pre-Christmas treat & experience ~ it was a joy to watch...thank you :)
It's definitely worth it.Great quality food, good service, a wonderful view and even the weather was good A treat, not something you do every day, so just enjoy it .
Used to go there a lot 20 years ago, usually in the summer on a nice day so you could have a table outside. Would catch the ferry over from Falmouth. It was a day out. It was never cheap, but it’s a special thing. The last I went a few years back, it was looking a bit rundown. The tables and chairs outside were rusty and there were weeds on the patio. The whole place needed a spruce up. It was a boiling hot day and every table outside was full. There were dogs barking away. It was an extremely busy lunch and the food was very disappointing, but you couldn’t really complain about it. Hub and me like a drink and so our bill was about £200. If you go with friends you are looking towards £500. On our last visit to St Mawes, we went to the Idle Rocks for lunch. Wow, that really was fabulous. It was the perfect day. We sat out by the water which was a millpond. What happens if you don’t like fish? A lot of people don’t. Is there a meat alternative? I would usually go for fish, but it needs to be really fresh and quite often, it’s not as fresh as it should be. I think The Tresanton has got a bit blasé. It used to be exclusive, but it’s not anymore, but they still think they are. It was one of the first places to offer this kind of thing, but now, there are lots of similar places. The food did look very good though and you enjoyed it. The service charge is not mandatory, but if you’ve had good service then you don’t mind giving a tip. It’s always dead there in winter. I remember one time, we went there in August for dinner. It was our anniversary. It was a warmish night and we wanted to sit outside. It was a bit windy and the moon was out. The clouds were moving across the sky quickly. We were the only ones sitting out. The waves were crashing in. It was like something you see on TV. It was very romantic. They gave us a patio heater. We were well looked after. I can’t remember if the food was good. I guess it must have been because you only remember bad meals. Have never seen Alex Polizzi there. Thank you for doing an update review. Very interesting. Tracey xx
I went a couple of times for afternoon tea, about 15 years ago. It was expensive then. Enjoyed it but being originally from Yorkshire never feel comfortable about high prices. There was a nice Scottish lady who worked there then.
My 4 weeks on the Lizard cost me and family around £500. Yes 4 weeks. Own touring caravan, a tank of fuel to travel the 300 mile. Yes there was some additional fuel costs and food, but all in we were still nowhere near a grand. In 2003, 2 adults, 3 children, a couple of national trust visits, parking at beach, pasties and ice creams only over 2 weeks at this point did indeed come in at around 500, 600 at most. I remember as they are my children not the now husbands and I paid it all.
We have stayed twice at Tresanton. The rooms do need a bit of attention but they are comfortable and obviously great views. They had new carpet last time we were there and as I walked the landing you could see every join.If zI had paid for that zI wouldn't have been happy. The breakfast was wonderful and we were blessed with good weather so ate on the terrace.Such a happy memory. We treated ourselves to one evening meal but it was expensive and such a limited menu. Plenty of other places to eat locally. The staff were so kind and attentive. You couldn't not enjoy a stay at Tresanton. Talland bay hotel is a bit posh too Had a nice stay there. Never feel intimidated by staying somewhere posh. You and your money is as good as anybody else.
Buț it’s my wife’s favourite place in cornwall.we did take her eldest son Chris who was from St Austell on the ferry from St mawes .he sadly passed away since then..He enjoyed his pastiè but also Mary’s pastie lovely too .A lovely memory for my wife and Chris .
My husband and I loved your video..and became very hungry ! I’m sure you could hear our roars of laughter all the way across the Pond! 😂 and no, we’ve never spent that much for lunch..but it looked sooo delicious ! 🫂P and B
I thought the bill was going to be £120 plus. As a Cornish resident, you can find many places where you'd pay £60-£80 for a three course very iffy meal, including glasses of wine plus coffees. Halibut is the queen of fishes, more so than turbot, and you got many more mussels than some restaurants would provide. Choosing the Fiano wine rather than the Sauvignon would have saved you £6 too. Your eventual scores got it right too. Glad you did enjoy it, though.
Great video. Yes I would go there and the price is not too bad. In London I would have paid a lot more. My only problem for me on the set menu is I am allergic to fish and shellfish. It would be helpful if they would put on their website
Glad you enjoyed Tresanton but very sorry about the horribly tall fence which blocks the views down the slipway. Big mistake by the local council who ordered it without thinking straight! Fun to see you sitting on my bench and giving it a hefty pat.
We found this so interesting particularly because we walked by this hotel without really noticing it with you two back in June. You are not bonkers. What an experience. We want to try it.
Is the hotel inspector promoting a hotel or a restaurant? The views are amazing and the food looked so good. That's good value for money for what they served. Say the starters are £10.00 the Halibut it about £25.00 and the Pancetta is around £6.00 each at a good restaurant. A bottle of wine is £25.00 and then there is the tip. Your bill sounds bloody good to me. Glad you both enjoyed the lunch there!
They are dog friendly, which is a plus from me. Only been in the Dog Bar once and onto the Terrace once, each time for just a drink, but the service was very friendly and accommodating and the extras were lovely.
Your Alaskan friends certainly enjoyed the Hotel Inspector! We enjoy halibut and assumed that fine restaurants everywhere serve halibut! Thanks for a great video!
I'm so glad you both enjoyed your dining experience at the hotel. If I could just comment on a few points...Firstly, you were the only customers in the restaurant. Now, if it were busy, would that have affected the quality of the food and/or the service? Then there's the service charge - you do not necessarily have to pay that unless it states that the charge is mandatory. You can ask for it either not to be added before you pay the bill or to be taken off the bill if it's included. Regarding the shabby decor, it is the end of the season, and this, in my opinion, is to be expected given the number of customers that have frequented the hotel during the season. I personally agree with you regarding the experience you both had there. I certainly do not think that what you paid is exceptionally high for a quality restaurant. Great video as usual. I'm looking forward to the next one. 👍
I think it was definitely worth the money. Quality looked amazing, I honestly thought you were going to say you paid £200 . The whole experience looked great to me 5 *
St. Mawes is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. I have always wanted to go there for afternoon tea, it looked really nice if you like fish . Really enjoyed watching but think they should have had another choice.
We were in Cornwall that week, eating a vegetarian Pasty and a bottle of Rattler, while storm Bert howled out side, no service charge either. Your both deserving of a treat too.
This is such a good review, showing every detail. I think it was very good value for a treat. Weve been to lovely smart places to eat and paid a lot more and no way as good. We have been to some good but basic places and paid a lot more. We dont drink alcohol so would have saved there. When l sit down in a cafe/restaurant l cant help but look under the table. I wouldnt have been happy with that floor, it wasnt busy so how long since the floor was washed ? Toilets have to be emaculate, no excuse for less. I do have a little OCD but it served me well when in hospitality. Thank folks l do enjoy your videos.....😊❤
Well as long as you both enjoyed it. A one day of the year treat? Especially when it's that quiet. Yikes to the price! 😲 It did look fancy but like you say big plates with hardly any food on it. Foo foo food. So long as you felt like you had eaten and it tasted good. Thats the main thing. 😃 The view looked good. Lovely day to have chosen 💕
Last month, we made our Winter migration to Slovensko (Slovakia to you) The flight, Bournemouth to Budapest was ridiculously early, (O'Leary (RyanAir) does it deliberately). We had made sandwiches the night before. A friend dropped us off on the road outside of the airport ... we will not pay the £4 drop off fee. We ate some of the sandwiches on the plane. At Lizst Ferenc Airport (That is Franz Lizst in German but the Hungarians start with the surname) we filled our water bottle for free from the tap provided for the purpose .... just outside the Ladies' toilet. Having taken the E200 bus to the end of the Metro and then the Metro to the main railway station, we boarded our Czech International. For much of the journey in Hungary the railway travels along the Danube. We ate the last few sandwiches on that train enjoying the most beautiful views of the river (nice and sunny this time.) Just after crossing into Slovensko, we alighted at Šturovo for our Slovak train. We normally have a short wait in Šturovo but this time it was an hour so we investigated the station buffet. We opened the door and were transported back 150 years. We wanted a drink different to our remaining water. I fancied a beer and Tánička wanted Kofala (a Slovak cola, in my view, better than Coke) There was a menu including dishes such as "Ciganska pečienka (Gypsy Roast) NOT roasted Gypsies you understand, but Roast pork with mustard, onion and bacon and vegetables €5.90 (£4.92). Tánička didn't want anything to eat but I was attracted to "Palecinky lekvárové alebo nugátové (Pancakes filled with marmalade or nugat) €4.90 (£4.08). I went for marmalade. .... 4 full sized pancakes, folded and filled with marmalade, a great dollop of whipped cream and chocolate sauce. It was too much for me and Tánička ate a third of it. I washed my two-thirds down with a half litre of Radagast, a beautiful Moravan beer. We let it settle on our train to Levice. Všetko najlepšie (All that is best)
I think that sounds more me, than this place. What you were given are pretty cheap ingredients for a lot of money (maybe not the halibut) I do it the other way, and look for the best food at the cheapest price. So I think I would be picking Slovakia. I thought it ironic that Ms Polizzi gives other people such a hard time over decor standards, when her place looks a bit tired and and lazy itself. The menu was Very limited. 2 fish and a blancmange? At the other end of the scale I live in a Spanish seaside town. I go to a backstreet place, away from the tourists, which is always packed to the gunnels with workers and pensioners. It is very basic, but you have to wait for tables if you go after 2pm. You get salad, bread, a choice of about 4 starters, the same amount of mains, and what seems like dozens of desserts. Plus a drink and coffee. (the choices always seem to offer meat, fish, chicken, rice etc) 13€. Used to be 8, when I moved here 5 years ago. Then the world went a bit strange and has never really recovered. They have also economised a little, but if they can provide choices and Still be making a profit I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a least an either/or. Ms P seems to be doing the exact opposite of what she preaches to others. What if you had turned up with friends and one of them has an allergy to shellfish? You would have gone somewhere else and that would have been X covers lost In an empty restaurant every bum on a seat counts. Seems to me they are trading on her name and fame. This is the first vid of yours I have watched and I liked it, I thought you were very fair and unbiased (Better than I would have been) and you were entertaining, amusing and informed. I am off to look for more now Thank you.
@@hogwashmcturnip8930 Any place with a May, Clarkson, Ramsey, Oliver, Stein, Mrs. Pol, and others of that ilk associated with it are almost certainly poor value ... and in the case of Stein and Oliver, poor quality too. The two of us appear to have started our own foreign trip adviser service courtesy of Sarah's and Andrew's video. I hope you find some more of their videos .... always worth a view and don't forget the "like".
Hi Sarah and Andrew. Your meal looked delicious and really lovely. Glad you enjoyed it. I would pay the price for that one but as you say for a one off special treat.
Your comment about feeling uncomfortable resonated with me but good you weren’t made to feel awkward. I’m the same. I hate eating in posh places because it feels like you’re on show, with staff waiting for you to make some terrible gaffe.
A good honest review although I think Sarah & Andrew now need a quick whip round to help fund this episode. Next stop Burger King 🤣 I know exactly what Andrew means in feeling “out of place” having experienced that sensation myself in a top class restaurant/hotel. Those portions were really tiny but you have to buy in to that when fine dining. I think we owe you a debt of gratitude for doing this review as most of us would have never known what it’s like there. Cheers
Hey guys - really enjoyed this one, please do more of the same. I'm well aware that Cornwall has areas of extreem affluence and it's good to see just how diversified the county has become. I don't want to comment about value that's just a dead end but the very fact that places like this exist is a valid reason for their scrutiny.
I've been lucky enough to have a few lunches at Hotel Tresanton on the terrace and felt thoroughly spoiled every time, not just the incredible food but the amazing way that staff create a very professional attention to detail, friendly service under the guise of feeling like you are in someone's private home . You are paying for the whole experience and I would definitely recommend . Even if it's just a big treat once in a while the memories last a life time.
That was really interesting because I love watching The Hotel Inspector. The food looked amazing! I’m sure she’d be mortified if she saw the state of the furniture.😆 You should have mentioned it to her when you saw her!😂
Looked excellent! Just wondering what the price for the same meal will be in mid-summer. So smart of you to go at this time of year, take advantage of the off-season pricing, and have the place virtually to yourselves, well done!
Always enjoy your interesting informative video's whatever the subject, nice long walks in sunnier warm summers are nice but not all the time in our ever changing winter weather months, keep doing what you do cos it's great
Excellent review. We would go for a one off experience if I lived within 50 miles and in winter. It was definitely sold to me. I wonder what it would be like in Summer when we are in Cornwall. Perhaps another review and time to save up.
That was a lovely meal. Special occasion place with a great view. I hope Andrew will feel comfortable enough to go back. One of our favorite things to do is have a nice meal out. We are really enjoying this type of video--we enjoy all of your videos to be truthful. Thanks so much for sharing.
You folks always leave a smile on my face, bless you thank you. We have a rule that once every 2 months we go out to a 'posh' restaurant- we dont smoke or drink alcohol (in the everyday). I might try this place now! The Heron inn at Malpas is lovely; Sams Club in Truro I can reccomend. Today we are off to try The Old Forge at Llelant. We have tried others but felt that they were not worth the price tag or, they have sadly closed.
If the wine and coffee was included then ok but food actually looked good. Furniture looked very shabby indeed. At least you never had to go down the pasty shop afterwards lol!
I loved your vlog. I have walked passed the hotel many times on holiday and always thought what a beautiful place. The food looked amazing and the tableware, setting was outstanding I think it was worth it
Wow!! It looked fantastic - it was certainly a 5 star experience and if you compare the ‘Tate’. St Ives which is called a restaurant to one of the finest Hotels in the County your bill was comparable, Reading some of the comments regarding the menu mostly ‘fish’ I would think that when you book your have the options to book any allergies or requests and at the point you could mention your dislike for fish. Your review was honest and we thoroughly enjoyed the content. Would we go go for lunch - Yes we would 10//10
The food looked lovely. yes it's more expensive than you would normally pay, but if it's a special occasion or a treat then why not. As you said, if it creates happy memories then it's worth every penny. Some of these high end restaurants have come and gone over the past few years and it's only the good ones that will last. This sounds like one of them.
I know that you paid £35 more, but it was a much better experience than at The Tate which is more like a cafe. This was dining in luxury and with amazing food and service. I do think they should add a meat and vegetarian option. Now that you have tried mussels, go for moules frites next time. Less poncy for you Andrew!
£35 for 3 courses isn't expensive you had a quality meal for that price. Most high street chains if you had 3 courses would cost you more without the quality. I don't like the service charge and you should have been made aware the water was an extra cost. We had 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks in a tiny cafe in Edinburgh the food was cold no service charge but it cost us £40 my brother was not happy. Always love your posts thank you 🙏
How awesome that starter is. One of my favourites and my wife the retired chef. I can almost taste that rich sauce. I enjoy watching the hotel inspector, it's an eye opener. Until now I knew little of her business. Been to the area a few times. Tend not to travel as much at our age. We moved from Kent to Merthyr Tydfil 20 years ago and never regretted it. We love fish, heather my wife just cannot get enough of it. She cooked it for years in the lake District. Just had mushrooms for breakfast. We love them.. So many ways to prepare and cook mushrooms. Thanks for the review. Very impressive.
We couldn't afford to spend that much on a lunch but that looked absolutely worth every penny in every way. You can't say you can buy a whole bottle of wine in the supermarket for the price of a glass, that's a crazy way of looking at it... that view, quality of food, service etc looked right up there...we'd love to go there for a special occasion...😋
My husband wouldn't have gone in saying we don't fit in places like that!! I wonder if you would have felt differently if it had been busier? I personally think if you can afford it our money is just as good as the next person.
On my recent visit to UK , was told seats in rooms would be cleaned once a year , not steam cleaned . ! As for the loo revue :-) What has happened to toilet rolls over there ? I recall Sainsbury's going for a smaller cardboard tube , Took up less space in trucks and saved 1000s on transport costs . Now they have up and down sized . The core is much bigger that needed . Now only 200 sheets / roll , 350 over here , and they are nearly half the width !
as such , 35 quid is not so bad for 3 courses 7.5 pounds for starter and pud 20 bucks for main . Seems about average . Then the ' decor ' , owner does not practice what she preaches . I would have pointed it out :-) Wine prices on the steep side . the 12 quid service charge is a nice plate of food in some places :-) Does the waitron / chef get paid ? Why do we assume a ' Tip ' is obligatory ? Frowned upon in Japan , assume waitron walks 100 m for your service , you are keeping them fit . Especially as the ' plaice ' was so busy :-)
Great video and an amazing treat but absolutely no way would I ever pay that for one meal, not in a million years. You both had a great time though, those times are priceless.
Excellent review. If you’re into high end eateries worth a visit.having trid a few lately. The prices were about on par.they always sting you with the drinks 😊
I'd agree with Andy....in the fact I'd also feel a little out of place...but definitely don't think your bonkers!...I was expecting it to be £120-£130 with the extras...the food did look top notch....we often went to the Pier House in Charlestown for our Anniversary meal...for 4 boys included, it was always around the £100 mark...they do more pub food based Menu now....and that was a few years back.....Cheers from St Austell....love your vlogs
It looked lovely . I am not a fish eater . Would have passed on the mussels , the halibut looked very nice . Shame it's so fish heavy . The cost was to be expected . High quality perfectly cooked , presented and served . Priceless ❤😂
Would have to say that you were totally bonkers. But you didn't know the prices before you indulged, it was utterly gorgeous food that you absolutely enjoyed and you were treated like royalty. So on reflection, I am going to have to contradict myself and say, you are definitely NOT bonkers. It was a treat that I would definitely do once a year............HOW MUCH!!!! Loved it 😋😎
I'm vegan and gluten free and often have serious issues with eating out, unless it's a vegan restaurant and understand just how important it is to ask their diners if they have any allergies.
A great experience, and fabulous setting, not just a lunch, i do a similar thing at a place in Barnstaple called Maiden Arch. My sister, daughter and I, love the ambiance and the personal service. We pay extra to have a glass of wine to match each course 😋 Similar cost, but with four courses, always something fish but also something meat and always gorgeous, apart from mussels and oysters yuk for me but i did try! My hubby would NO WAY pay the price! 😅 One thing is for sure, you don't forget those experiences!
Thank you for this review. I'm also gluten free. I have IBS. I'm originally from California but, live here now. We're planning on going to Cornwall for the first time next year. It's nice to see where we can go.
Service charge. Having grown up in catering industry as in banqueting upto just over 200 people depending on table layout, I've many years experience of my parents wages and I worked in it once of age to for many years. Service charge is a way of keeping wages down. All costs are supposed to be calculated in the costings. I also know of the many cheats that happen, I will not say though unless someone asks me to. Was the costs of drinks easily seen before the final bill? You've way better weather than we had over 15 consecutive years of being down for the starting weeks of school holidays in the Midlands. 2003 was wonderful two weeks but as we could extend our stay over the following years to 2019, the weather was better at home, however, I booked back in each year before leaving and confirmed exacts dates once our holiday forms were signed off in our work place.
I think we just struck lucky with the weather! We had Storm Bert rattling the rafters the day before we filmed, pebbles strewn all over the harbour area! Sarah :)
Snozzle bay mussels are the best from Celtic countries IMO, I've tried Scottish and Irish and they're good but our locals have a really silky texture and almost dissolve in the mouth as for price the food looked good and you both looked relaxed and happy so that is priceless. Enjoy treats like this because time fly's. Guests who use boutique hotels like this wouldn't bat an eyelid at paying £100 plus for lunch? we value money. Oll an gwella XpeaceX
Excellent! Welcome to Southern counties pricing. Round here this is the usual price of a meal for two in a Gastro pub! I think you can refuse to pay the service charge, but it would seem churlish. That is a lot of money out of season for Cornish folk, but then this Hotel has never been targeted at locals. The attention to detail looked good, and I am glad that Olga didn't let the side down with paper serviettes !! (shudder the thought) This was worth it just to see Andrews face looking at the bill....and they say the Scots are tight??!.......didn't actually pay for it in the end did he Sarah 🤭
Bonkers? Yep!!😊😊 But hey, you enjoyed it. That's all that matters in the end. Andrew stepping in to take Gary Eats Crown on the restaurant reviews! Nice to mix it up sometimes & so watchable. Definitely do it again....maybe a Christmas dinner somewhere?? Love watching food reviews...& with views like that in between the courses it's a thumbs up from me.👍x J x
This looked so fantastic. I am glad I already had had breakfast or else I would have got really hungry 🙂 I do agree that once in a while you have to splurge, and then you can fully enjoy delicious food like this. Let alone having this great views. Like when I was with my sister in New York and we booked a 3 course dinner and wine for a lot of money at Gordon Ramsey's restaurant. That is 12 years ago and it is still a great memory. When you arrive at a place like this you have to "own" it and think that you deserve it. And then you will not feel out of place 😄 I grew up at the South-Eastern coast of Norway and we collected mussles in the sea from our little boat. So I really know how they taste. Delicious. Halibut is one of the more expensive type of fish here, but I have tasted that too a few times. And they are delicious too. Great video! Thank you. Torunn 🥰
No your not bonkers at all. The old saying is so true, ‘you get what you pay for’. If you are intending to eat at a 5* restaurant you expect to pay this sort of money. I must say I am not a fish eater but it did look lovely 😊
Those things you picked up on are exactly the ones that Alex Polizzi would criticise hoteliers for in The Hotel Inspector. Attention to detail is her mantra. I’m totally with you on the service charge issue.
Good value for the meal in a lovely quaint location. However have to agree about hidden costs- it’s not being tight! If it’s tap water being served in a jug then don’t understand why it’s charged. Think service charge was a little steep especially as it’s just two dining. Things like the seat can be sorted by a quick steam clean and shouldn’t compromise the experience. Overall a balanced review and not as scathing as perhaps the hotel inspectors could be?!;)
My first thought when you stated that it was an unknown set menu was 'what about food allergies' and yes, Sarah's gluten intolerance was catered for, but what if someone has a seafood allergy? What ,if any, are the alternatives? Eat somewhere else I suppose . As you have proved, good food comes at a price. And could the reason that the waitress was so attentive be that you were the only people there. We have also fallen for the expensive water scam at Raymond Blancs (ask for a jug of tap water)
It might be a coincidence that the food and service was good, when Alex Polizzi was there. She must have known you booked a meal, and cleared the restaurant to allow a un-interrupted experience. Celebrity UA-camrs! 🙂
I think that's par for the course for something of that quality and the lovely ambience &c. and worth it as a one-off treat. You seemed to enjoy your experience. 🙂
I can't believe you've never had a bowl of mussels before. Cooked well they are delicious. However, if they're overcooked they taste how you would imagine a rubber band to taste. The food was good quality and value.
Thats the same with Calamare. And if something tastes fishy it would make me worry about freshness. I don't remember halibut tasting particularly fishy, but I haven't had any since I was a kid. It isn't supposed to. But then, it depends on what people think of as "fishy."
No not bonkers! You enjoyed it. You paid £57.50 per head for quality food, wine and experience- definitely worth it for a treat!
Totally agree! Lovely treat! Sarah :)
This isn’t a dig but an observation for many food review sites:
I respect your negative points which I think are just.
We generally can’t help comparing that way but as they say-you pay ur money and make ur choice 😉.❤
Did they see you filming while eating ????
The food and the setting looked fantastic, not an average lunch but rather special, its good to indulge yourself once in a while!
Felt quite special! Sarah :)
What a lovely genuine post, so sweet and thank you...
Memories like this are priceless.
Your review of the food and location seems to make it worth the bill, Not Bonkers, we all need a treat very now and again, Thanks Bob
It's definitely worth it.Great quality food, good service, a wonderful view and even the weather was good
A treat, not something you do every day, so just enjoy it .
Definitely one to remember! Sarah :)
I love The Tresanton Hotel! Your meal looks delicious! Good value! Can't believe you live in Cornwall and haven't eaten mussels!
Keep up your great work you two are so real and honest love our cornwall holidays and get our fix from you when we're not there thank you..
😂 next time you are over 😂 It was very special! Sarah :)
What a lovely experience….definitely good value….if it’s lunch we stick with water…and have a posh coffee after…
Is the hotel inspector promoting a hotel or a restaurant? The views are amazing and the food looked so good. That's good value for money for what they served. Say the starters are £10.00 the Halibut it about £25.00 and the Pancetta is around £6.00 each at a good restaurant. A bottle of wine is £25.00 and then there is the tip. Your bill sounds bloody good to me. Glad you both enjoyed the lunch there!
We sampled the lunch, the room rate is way beyond our budget! The food was excellent. I tasted it all again while editing! Sarah :)
Next try Carlyon BayHotel ..they have an offer on now ….afternoon teas etc…
I think it was definitely worth the money. Quality looked amazing, I honestly thought you were going to say you paid £200 . The whole experience looked great to me 5 *
St. Mawes is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. I have always wanted to go there for afternoon tea, it looked really nice if you like fish . Really enjoyed watching but think they should have had another choice.
We were in Cornwall that week, eating a vegetarian Pasty and a bottle of Rattler, while storm Bert howled out side, no service charge either. Your both deserving of a treat too.
Wow! Amazing quality and very reasonable!
The food looked amazing and well worth the money. Enjoy! Xx
Well as long as you both enjoyed it. A one day of the year treat? Especially when it's that quiet.
Yikes to the price! 😲
It did look fancy but like you say big plates with hardly any food on it. Foo foo food. So long as you felt like you had eaten and it tasted good. Thats the main thing. 😃
The view looked good. Lovely day to have chosen 💕
Nice! My husband works there as a chef👏
He did a nice job!
Wow! Our compliments to the chef! The food was so good, thank you! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails 😅
I’m heading down to Cornwall on Friday - I absolutely love coming down out of season and can only hope I’m as lucky with the weather!
We ate the last few sandwiches on that train enjoying the most beautiful views of the river (nice and sunny this time.)
Just after crossing into Slovensko, we alighted at Šturovo for our Slovak train.
Wow! Sounds like it would make a cool video! Sarah :)
I am off to look for more now
Thank you.
Looks stunning.That was a lovely meal.Really enjoy watching you both.And a bit envious.😀
Thank you 😋 Sarah :)
Life is short….enjoy beautiful food. Loving the vlogs xx
Thank you! A special milestone for us so decided to treat ourselves! Sarah :)
Hi Sarah and Andrew. Your meal looked delicious and really lovely. Glad you enjoyed it. I would pay the price for that one but as you say for a one off special treat.
So true! Sarah :)
Your comment about feeling uncomfortable resonated with me but good you weren’t made to feel awkward. I’m the same. I hate eating in posh places because it feels like you’re on show, with staff waiting for you to make some terrible gaffe.
Rather a lot of drama! Welcome to the price of quality! As with most F&B the margin is made on drinks and ‘service’ . Looked great to me.
A good honest review although I think Sarah & Andrew now need a quick whip round to help fund this episode. Next stop Burger King 🤣
I know exactly what Andrew means in feeling “out of place” having experienced that sensation myself in a top class restaurant/hotel.
I’m sure she’d be mortified if she saw the state of the furniture.😆 You should have mentioned it to her when you saw her!😂
Ok it was expensive but so glad you two enjoyed it. Baked beans on toast at home perhaps next time ? Well done
Cheese sandwich for lunch!! Sarah :)
😂@@CornishWalkingTrails
Looked excellent! Just wondering what the price for the same meal will be in mid-summer. So smart of you to go at this time of year, take advantage of the off-season pricing, and have the place virtually to yourselves, well done!
When I'm enjoying a great meal, the cost becomes secondary. Life is short.
Always enjoy your interesting informative video's whatever the subject, nice long walks in sunnier warm summers are nice but not all the time in our ever changing winter weather months, keep doing what you do cos it's great
Glad you like them! Summer months offer more opportunities to explore the coast path. We would get bored making the same content every week! Sarah
@CornishWalkingTrails Exactly !!
Excellent review. We would go for a one off experience if I lived within 50 miles and in winter.
It was definitely sold to me. I wonder what it would be like in Summer when we are in Cornwall.
Perhaps another review and time to save up.
Much busier in summer I would imagine! Sarah :)
What a lovely experience, beautiful view, lovely hotel and your food looked so good, definitely for a special treat though 😊
You had a lovely day out and nice memories. Love to you both😊
The presentation is amazing.
Nice looking food , were the plates hot ?
Or do you enjoy cold food ?
I don't think you are bonkers as long as you enjoyed yourselves nice to watch it's a beautiful hotel well made video
If the wine and coffee was included then ok but food actually looked good. Furniture looked very shabby indeed. At least you never had to go down the pasty shop afterwards lol!
😂
I loved your vlog. I have walked passed the hotel many times on holiday and always thought what a beautiful place. The food looked amazing and the tableware, setting was outstanding I think it was worth it
I so enjoy your videos! I think it was worth the splurge! Especially for birthday or other celebration!
Our belated wedding anniversary - 30 years so we thought it was worth celebrating! Sarah :)
As for the loo revue :-)
What has happened to toilet rolls over there ?
I recall Sainsbury's going for a smaller cardboard tube , Took up less space in trucks and saved 1000s on transport costs .
Now they have up and down sized .
The core is much bigger that needed . Now only 200 sheets / roll , 350 over here , and they are nearly half the width !
as such , 35 quid is not so bad for 3 courses 7.5 pounds for starter and pud 20 bucks for main . Seems about average .
Then the ' decor ' , owner does not practice what she preaches .
I would have pointed it out :-)
Wine prices on the steep side .
the 12 quid service charge is a nice plate of food in some places :-)
Does the waitron / chef get paid ?
Why do we assume a ' Tip ' is obligatory ?
Frowned upon in Japan , assume waitron walks 100 m for your service , you are keeping them fit . Especially as the ' plaice ' was so busy :-)
Great video and an amazing treat but absolutely no way would I ever pay that for one meal, not in a million years. You both had a great time though, those times are priceless.
Excellent review. If you’re into high end eateries worth a visit.having trid a few lately. The prices were about on par.they always sting you with the drinks 😊
Good to know! The wine was very nice and no acid reflux afterwards either, Sarah :)
😁
No it’s well worth it x I think you paid a good price for fab food in great location x 😊
Totally agree, Sarah :)
Another fantastic video 👏
Would have to say that you were totally bonkers. But you didn't know the prices before you indulged, it was utterly gorgeous food that you absolutely enjoyed and you were treated like royalty. So on reflection, I am going to have to contradict myself and say, you are definitely NOT bonkers. It was a treat that I would definitely do once a year............HOW MUCH!!!! Loved it 😋😎
I'm vegan and gluten free and often have serious issues with eating out, unless it's a vegan restaurant and understand just how important it is to ask their diners if they have any allergies.
I love vegan restaurants, they know exactly what goes in to their good and I trust them the most! Sarah :)
Yum .....st austell mussels are delicious
Glad it was helpful! Can be a bit worrying! Sarah :)
Lovely so glad Alex stepped up to the mark!
Was the costs of drinks easily seen before the final
bill?
You've way better weather than we had over 15 consecutive years of being down for the starting weeks of school holidays in the Midlands. 2003 was wonderful two weeks but as we could extend our stay over the following years to 2019, the weather was better at home, however, I booked back in each year before leaving and confirmed exacts dates once our holiday forms were signed off in our work place.
I think we just struck lucky with the weather! We had Storm Bert rattling the rafters the day before we filmed, pebbles strewn all over the harbour area! Sarah :)
Love your vlogs guys , many thanks
Snozzle bay mussels are the best from Celtic countries IMO, I've tried Scottish and Irish and they're good but our locals have a really silky texture and almost dissolve in the mouth as for price the food looked good and you both looked relaxed and happy so that is priceless.
Enjoy treats like this because time fly's.
Guests who use boutique hotels like this wouldn't bat an eyelid at paying £100 plus for lunch? we value money.
Oll an gwella
XpeaceX
Spot on! You nailed it with this comment, nice to dip into their world every now and then! Sarah :)
(shudder the thought)
This was worth it just to see Andrews face looking at the bill....and they say the Scots are tight??!.......didn't actually pay for it in the end did he Sarah 🤭
We have been looking at the Christmas afternoon tea menus, so you never know! Some are so expensive these days! Sarah :)
Great video once again and wonderful food. Price wise , not that bad by today's standards.
Thank you. Torunn 🥰
Thank you! We will be confident ordering mussels again, they have a high bench mark to compare with now! Sarah :)
Overall a balanced review and not as scathing as perhaps the hotel inspectors could be?!;)
😂 yes, I think we were a little awed by the surroundings! Sarah :)
We didn’t cover off the rest of the menu, which was quite pricey, but offered meat and veggie options! Just would have cost more! Sarah :)
Yes, you have to treat yourselves sometimes. It makes life worth living, and the food was well presented and looked delicious
I think it was good value for the quality of food .. plus beautiful surroundings!
It might be a coincidence that the food and service was good, when Alex Polizzi was there. She must have known you booked a meal, and cleared the restaurant to allow a un-interrupted experience. Celebrity UA-camrs! 🙂
Hi Sarah and Andrew. Your meal looked
Paying that much is ok if you can afford it…it’s like a betting shop when the fun stops stop…
Ok my goodness you two / made me laugh.
😂
You should have got a meal deal from sainsburys £5 each..and choose a £50 car park ..£60 total job done. !
