Yes Shane. It might be helpful. Based on much of what you, and others have presented, I expected Matter to be the ultimate integrator of all things home automation. But, when I set up my new, M2 hub using matter, I was disappointed in how many functions/devices connected to that hub were NOT available in Homekit. It got worse when I reconnected my existing M1 hub, which is central to my alarm system, using Matter, only to find that the hub doesn't even show up in Homekit then, other than as a Matter bridge! Yep. Several years back I went full in to the Apple ecosystem just to use the Home app. At first, it seemed great. But now, it isn't working supper reliably and, Apple doesn't seem particularly interested in. That on top of the comparative minor number of HA devices that work with HK. One of the more important deficiencies of HK is the lack of logging. By comparison, the Aqara app - which I have to use anyway for alarm system purposes - has that important function. It makes it easy for me to see how my automations and system are working or not working and what's going on. With HK, all I know is when they don't work. And I have to troubleshoot blindly.
I have several of the original Aqara contact sensors as well as other devices working on Aqara’s M2 hub. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Thread-supported devices but think I’ll wait after watching your video. Thx!
Great video, Shane. Whereas I love that Aqara released a thread-based device that doesn’t even need their hub, as a dedicated Apple Home user I would stick with their old sensors. To keep things wife approved, I don’t see being able to install a sensor that big! For anyone that is wary of adding a/another hub, I used to be the same way. I only had the Lutron hub for several months. When I finally checked out the Aqara hubs, I was blown away. Most of these are great indoor cameras with a ton of features, use Apple Secure Video, and just happen to also be hubs. The prices for the hubs and all of their products are fantastic. I have about 15 Aqara products and none of them have given me any problems for the up to 15 months of ownership.
From one “Shane” to another.. thank you for these videos!! I’m looking forward to the new hub as I start acquiring more smart devices in the coming months 😊

I always enjoy your videos and your insights. Until now, I have avoided any devices that required manufacturer hubs. However, I did just buy a set of Meross leak sensors, which come with a Meross hub. We'll see how that works out. But in general, I will continue buying devices that are either natively compatible with Homekit, or natively compatible with Matter (with or without Thread, although Thread would be my preference). Having said that, I'd be interested in a video that attempts to change my mind about that :-) For example, if installing a special hub that acted as a (somewhat) universal bridge connecting all sorts of non-Homekit / non-Matter devices to Matter (I have Homepod Minis to act as Border routers) I would be interested to see how complex that would be and how functional it would be.
Since Aqara already makes a contact sensor that is compatible with Apple Home, Matter support doesn't matter to me (pun un-intended). i'll be sticking to the original. I like the small design and like that I can see it in the Aqara app. I will be curious to see how the new P2 integrates with the new Aqara hub down the road. Maybe then it will be worth the switch. Speaking of Aqara, have you heard any news on their new light strip? I'm really excited for that product!
@@TN-ic3nb I checked their website, all of their contact sensors uses Zigbee so it is not compatible with Apple Home. Only the P2 which supports matter over thread works with Apple Home Hub.
Nice video. I was going to use a wireless contact sensor on an exterior screen door to the pool area. I’d need a bigger plastic box for this one vs the prior device you did the outdoor gate video on a while ago but since Im not using any zig bee this might now be the best option
I just installed a bunch of Aqara contact sensors on every window and exterior door. What I’ve found is that if a door or window is open when arming Home Away the security system still arms with no notification of fault so I could leave home with the back door wide open. If I close the door or window while armed the alarm will go off if it is subsequently opened. I’ve searched and have been unable to find a means of a workaround meaning I have to walk around and check every door or window or remember to check status of each on app. Seems a pretty fundamental shortcoming.
Love the videos! I would like to hear more of your opinions on what you would use though. For instance when you said you would stay with zigbee if we already have it. That’s super helpful to hear.
Thanks for the great video review. I like how this works with my existing smart home hub like Amazon Alexa. How does the notification work with Alexa? Can it announce that the door is open or close etc.? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for another great video! I am a big fan of Aqara products and current having total of 75 Aqara devices running in my Apple Home environment, including just about every Aqara categories of products. As you said, they are supper reliable and cost effective. Since I am only have Apple Home in my house, I really don’t see much of the value for Aqara Matter based products. But it is definitely good to know that Aqara committed their products and will support for the future.
Would love a video deeper on Matter, what systems are supported, the timeline for future systems, and maybe a few sites to look at all Matter products available. Searching myself I get a lot of mixed info and outdated stuff. And if Nanoleaf wants to send you some Sense+ Light switches early to review that would be awesome. First switch with almost everything I want and I’ll probably buy 5-10 if they’re good. Been holding out for a while, and I’m ready to pull the trigger and do most of my switches.
I ordered one of Sengled's Matter WIFI smart bulbs. I want to order one of these and try your reed bypass to use with my existing alarm circuits. Dont forget, Thread and Zigbee are the same physical layer and radio format so they should work the same.
Great video Shane! More info on the M3 hub when available would be great! I currently have a gen 1 M1S that sometimes drop off my eero Pro 6E network even though being 10 feet away from the router. Will the M3 have an Ethernet port? What other radios will it contain beyond wifi, Thread and Zigbee?
Battery Life is my main question. Which as you mentioned you wished you could’ve provided some info on, but the apps didn’t give you any indication sadly. Thanks from the great overview otherwise. I’m looking to swap over to an Aqara based security system once those m3 hubs drops i think.
Thanks for watching! Turn on/off lights when the door opens/closes. Get notifications when a door is opened. Put them on windows to automate your thermostat. Put one on the beer fridge or liquor cabinet to know if someone goes into your stash while you are not home. I have sensors on my gates so if someone opens the back door while a gate is opened, an alarm will sound and flash lights (so the dog doesn't get out). Put them on safes, drawers, etc. to automate lights and other accessories, or to get notifications. Anything that opens and closes can be automated with a contact sensor.
I thinking is possible to build a fully automated home with just apple home kit ie Apple TV running just thread … no additional third party hubs etc in 2024
First, love the video. Second, I have been waiting for these for a long time to comer out. I was hoping they would also support Apple Home natively without having to use Matter. Third, I have gotten over the fact that my Aqara hubs are required for my existing Aqara Door and Window sensors. Therefore, I will not be switching out my existing sensors for these sensors.
I bought two this morning to compare with my eve sensor. I’m thinking I’ll return both brands and just go with aqara hub and sensors because I need vibration sensors as well and there aren’t any HomeKit/matter/thread vibration sensors that I know of.
Great video like always. Seen videos around in UA-cam, looks like adding Matter can create issues, some people even have had to reset all their smart home system. I saw on another video that in order to switch to matter you need to activate IPV6. Can you talk or even create a video that will deep more into the topic?
On top of it, as always! I don't think you addressed this (or I missed it)... can you use JUST the Thread sensor and still get the alarm system in HomeKit? Meaning, is an Aqara hub required for the alarm system (Stay, Away, Off)?
From a home automation standpoint how would I use this to turn off the AC when a door is opened? For instance, I own a beach condo and it destroys the AC when someone just leaves the door open in the heat. So my goal is to turn that off while the door is open and start it back when its closed. I haven't found a great guide on how to do this yet. I have the new M3 hub, the Aqara sensors, a Google Nest, and even an Apple Homepod to begin testing with. But if there are any deeper instructions or methods, I'd love to see what everyone else is doing.
OK, here's my question: Spent some time, and certainly some money, on my Apple Home, including Apple devices, Minipod, Apple TV hub, Lutron Hub, and more. why upgrade to Matter? What's the added advantage? Thread v. Matter?
Will the thread sensor connected to home kit be able to use my speakers to alert? For example a sensor opens and triggers the alarm, will said alarm sounds be played through my selected speakers? Or can i program certain sounds via ITTT for when sensors open and close?
Hi Shane, love your video so I decided to get these Aqara contact sensor P2. However, in this video at 7:53 I see that you can make these contact sensor as tile in Home app. Please let me know how did you do that? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Sensors do not show as tiles in the room views or home tab view. If you tap on the contact sensors in the status section (top of any room view) you will see the same view as you referenced.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks for the reply and tips. When i tap contact sensors in the status section it just pop up the contact sensor setting instead of the tiles with animation like yours. That's the part I don't get what have I done wrong lol
@@ltuned Nothing. That's just because you only have one sensor in that room. You only see the tiles if you have more than one contact sensor in the room.
As much as I appreciate companies moving to hubless thread matter support, I don’t like functionality limits. The unique feature of the button is only usable if you have an Aqara hub. Might as well get the hub, cheaper sensors and their standalone button that has multiple uses. Thanks for your videos, very useful when building out my Apple Home setup.
I love buttons as they are very versatile, but I wish that Matter or Apple home supported toggle on/off with each press option for these kind of buttons without doing a work around.
Excellent video, however about 67.3% of it was way over my 75 year old brain. I have a Alexa system and Several Wyze cameras throughout my home and currently have about 6 V1 Wyze door sensors, all of which have died. I don't want to go with the new Wyze system, and I am looking for a simple brand for door sensors (2 are outdoors). I have a few devices installed that use the "Smart Things" and "Google Home" apps. I am strictly Android.. Do you have any suggestions for replacement door sensors? Thanks for any advice for a new subscriber. PS: I do want my Alexa devices to announce when doors are opened.
Visually it reminds me of the Unifi Protect All in One sensor. But this sensor seems to be a stand-alone in Home, without support of the Aqara app or existing hubs. Once the new Matter hub is released, and is supported by their app, will it work with their existing products? Or is Aqara forking their ecosystem into Matter and non-Matter?
Hello, I’m getting the error “Thread Border Router Required” I do have a HomePod mini in the lasted version plus Apple TV 4K 2gen. I disconnected all devices and left the HomePod mini on acting as hub but it doesn’t worked. Did the same with my Apple TV and nothing. I’m the only one in this boat?
I'm not sure. It seems like that might be a possibility when automating through the Aqara app once you are able to pair 3rd party accessories in the Aqara app. It will be interesting to see.
Yes. Matter gets talked up all over the place. As the ultimate integrator so that home automation devices can work with any home automation application. But my limited experience so far, say otherwise. Using it with Aqara and SwitchBot hubs has been humbling. It lacks many capabilities when using it to connect to HK that these products have within their native apps. That's a deal breaker for me. Or maybe, I'm just an idiot who doesn't understand it.
Not easily. You can create an automation to play a specific sound over the HomePod when the door is open, but it's a workaround and not the most elegant solution.
For the zigbee sensors, you need an Aqara zigbee hub. If you buy the thread sensors, you do not need an Aqara hub (can pair directly to Apple Home through HomePod mini)
Hello Shane, Im in a pickle, and would love your help. Im using the old aqara door sensors and im struggling with a specific automation. In my bathroom I have a door sensor, a temp and humidity sensor, a smart bulb and a fan that is controlled with a smart plug. My problem is with what trigger to turn on the Fan. If I go in for a short period of time (like 5 min) I don’t need the fan to be turned on , but id I stay longer on the toilet I want the fan to turn on. So the “Shortcut” needs to be something like: If the door sensor is opened and closed 2- times in 5 min do nothing, but if its open and closed 1 time start the fan and then turn it off after 15 min, But I cannot figure out how to do this in the apple shortcuts, can you help me. Kind regards,
Maybe its just me that's tired, but do you need the Aqara App for making automation, say if I want to turn of my lights when the window is open? Should be able to do this in HomeKit right?!
I was curious why you would add it to Google Home when sensors can't trigger routines directly (yet: allegedly). Can Apple app routines get triggered by a stand-alone sensor like Alexa can?
I don’t understand why it’s so big, and also don’t understand why their Matter hub won’t be out until next year. Seems strange timing to have this but not the hub. I just don’t understand their decisions here.
I’m open to replacing my M2 hub with the new one, but I hope Aqara has a migration plan. I don’t want to have to re-pair 100+ devices! I’m a huge fan of Zigbee, and I’m gonna continue to use it for a while. My first experience with Thread was not good. Going to give Thread some time.
@@robertmathers7852 I'm referring to the release of the M3 hub and a migration plan that moves devices from one hub to another. In the past, there hasn't been any hubs really able to do that. You had to re-pair all your devices with the new hub.
a few days ago, I couldn't add the aqara sensor p2 to Home assistant. Today, I could add it (may because of an update of ha?) Anyway, for me, thread is the way to go. Yes, it's bulky :(
So you can add the sensor to google home or apple. But you cant set an alarm that you left a freezer open, or set any routine that starts when a door opens or closes? Is this a limitation bu the hub? Or a limitation by aqara? This thread journey looks like zigbee v1.01.
Sure you can setup automations only limited by the ecosystem you are using. Opening/closing the door for example could trigger other HomeKit accessories in the Apple Home app.
I find it hilarious that Aqara runs to create a matter-over-thread end point device, but fails to create an Aqara hub with Thread Border Router capabilities. 😂
Shane. Thanks for your videos. I find the Thread/Matter somewhat confusing so a lesson for dummies like me would be great. Zigbee vs Wifi vs Matter which one is more secure?
Thread border routers from different manufacturers like this should ultimately play well together. You should not expect problems. In fact, the whole idea behind Matter and Thread is that all these devices will be able to work well together.
I have it added to my google home app fine and can see when the door is open or closed in the app. The one thing I cant seem to figure out is how to get notifications from the google home app when the door is opened, seems kinda useless if you cant get notifications. I must be missing something.
I bought this sensor connected it to my google home and after that it kept disconnecting from wifi never got a notifications either . I downloaded the Aqara app and the sensor P2 wasn’t even on there own app. So I will be returning this sensor .
This is all so confusing. I just connected my M2 hub to Home Assistant and the Aqara app, enabled Matter... and used "Matter" to add the M2 hub into HomeKit... why? I don't know... I originally wanted to get Aqara devices into HA via the hub but that didn't work as expected so now I am going to return the M2 because it is not adding any value.
Cuatro Preguntas IMPORTANTES: 1.
It looks like this new hub will be needed to use Thread within Aqara's ecosytem. So, those of us who already have Aqara hubs and would want to use Aqara Thread devices within Aqara's app, have a new thing we'd need to buy. Pretty weak incentive when we could have near full functionality with the other ecosystems pretty much everyone who has Aqara stuff probably already has. I'm just over here waiting not so patiently for the M1S to get matter support. Maybe they'll drag their feet putting out stuff like this instead of doing that at all.
Not one that natively supports Apple Home. But I did weatherproof the Aqara zigbee contact sensors and have been using outside for about a year. Still going strong. Here’s what I did: ua-cam.com/video/4WY4aNWQcrc/v-deo.html
This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
Hi Shane. I'm in Europe (Netherlands) and just got 2 P2 Door sensor. And none of them connects (fails during MATTER code scanning) after 2 minutes. I have the latest Apple TV + HomePod and already have existing Thread and Matter products, and also have the Aqara M2 hub. I have tried many times, but these just does not pair. I've also done a reset, but still no luck. What am I missing?
@@lumitest9 not yet and am struggling with it. My ISP gives it on my modem but I can’t seem to get it on my Linksys mesh router. Does it matter ? (Pun intended)
Been waiting for this for a while and put off buying any contact sensors since they announced it, but it's pretty damn big and ugly. Well it looks nice, but not at that size. I wouldn't mind that design if it was smaller overall. As much as I want to start buying into thread, I think I might just go with the zigbee variant instead. Not really seeing any performance improvement here and the smaller size and cheaper price seems more attractive than having a thread based sensor. Hopefully the release of this sensor drops the price further of the zigbee ones.
I’m sure this is something they can do it in a software update, similar to what wemo has with the scene controller. I may use this for my church, it’s a commercial style building, I wired Leviton 2gen smart switches and dimmers throughout the facility, so I may use these door sensors.
Great video Shane! Feeling very unsure of the future of Zigbee devices with Aqara moving forward. I hope Aqara makes the P2 Sensor using Zigbee so those who still have an Aqara Zigbee Hub can use the newer models. In the meantime, we will have to see how the M3 Aqara Hub impacts the demand for more thread devices.
I honestly have lost trust in Aqara Products. I have 8 Aqara T1 Contact sensors and all but one have failed me in less than 1 year. My zigbee mesh is really strong with mesh repeaters everywhere (LQI 255, RSSI -30ish).
Too big! I really like my original Aqara devices, but they just keep making everything bigger. I’m not sure why they are worried about 5 years’ worth of battery life. The size makes this a poor trade off. Besides, I’m guessing I’ll replace most devices before 5 years anyway, just because of technology improvements - but it better offer a very significant benefit if the size is going to jump like that.
Thank you for covering the pertinent details so diplomatically, and please pardon my cynicism. I’m so underwhelmed with matter/thread, Apple in general, and Aqara specifically. Years of Thread hype, launched with a sputtering fizzle. Apple’s impressively deplorable abandonment of Siri; and now Aqara’s “Incentive” to re-buying more e-waste, all the while looking like a gameboy-sized Kirby/Stay-Puft-Marshmallow Man love child masquerading as a half-baked door sensor because it’s own (current) hubs won’t facilitate actual, effective utility. Yawn.

I ordered one of Sengled's Matter WIFI smart bulbs. I want to order one of these and try your reed bypass to use with my existing alarm circuits. Dont forget, Thread and Zigbee are the same physical layer and radio format so they should work the same.
Can you get Siri to announce when the door it’s open / closed?
I appreciate your videos and all the homekit tips and tricks. I’m wondering why would one need a door sensor? I didn’t hear use cases for having one.
Can your HomePod Mini tell you when a door is opened?
Nice video!
Why is this sensor so big though? I wanted to buy it, but I don’t like the size
Yes Matter over thread does use IPV6. Thank you for the feedback.
Can you do a video on garage door with matter or thread for apple home
On top of it, as always! I don't think you addressed this (or I missed it)... can you use JUST the Thread sensor and still get the alarm system in HomeKit? Meaning, is an Aqara hub required for the alarm system (Stay, Away, Off)?
I really like the size of the older model, wonder why they went bigger. Battery life?
Thread v. Matter?
Non-HomeKit devices will become also available for you.
Para que sirve el Botón?? Solo para resetearlo? O también funciona para activar rutinas y automatizaciones??
Need a review on tuo contact sensors.
I no longer want to change batteries! What's a good wired smart sys. and can monitor myself?
As much as I appreciate companies moving to hubless thread matter support, I don’t like functionality limits. The unique feature of the button is only usable if you have an Aqara hub. Might as well get the hub, cheaper sensors and their standalone button that has multiple uses.
Thanks for your videos, very useful when building out my Apple Home setup.
I see there are 2 different Aqara hubs. Which one should I get for my HomeKit home?
Hi Shane. Have you tried iOS 17 beta with HomeKit? It seems like automation has fewer features- e.g. Intercom, light brightness trigger
I love buttons as they are very versatile, but I wish that Matter or Apple home supported toggle on/off with each press option for these kind of buttons without doing a work around.
It's a pretty simple process using "Convert to Shortcut."
Finally smartthings support!
Can you have a variable gap distance between the magnet and the sensor?
Wishful thinking, but any idea if you would be able to pair another manufacturer’s Thread sensor to the Aqara alarm once the thread hub is released?
I'm not sure. It seems like that might be a possibility when automating through the Aqara app once you are able to pair 3rd party accessories in the Aqara app. It will be interesting to see.
Yes let’s get more information on matter !
8:35 is it possible to make your HomePod Mini to tell you when the door is open?
Not easily. You can create an automation to play a specific sound over the HomePod when the door is open, but it's a workaround and not the most elegant solution.
Hey Shane…I would how you added Google Home Max into Homekit?
Hey I’m thinking about buying the original sensor, but do I need to buy a aqara hub? Or can I use my apple mini as a hub?
For the zigbee sensors, you need an Aqara zigbee hub. If you buy the thread sensors, you do not need an Aqara hub (can pair directly to Apple Home through HomePod mini)
Can you trigger routines from google home app with aqara p2 sensor?
Hello Shane, Im in a pickle, and would love your help.
Im using the old aqara door sensors and im struggling with a specific automation.
In my bathroom I have a door sensor, a temp and humidity sensor, a smart bulb and a fan that is controlled with a smart plug.
My problem is with what trigger to turn on the Fan. If I go in for a short period of time (like 5 min) I don’t need the fan to be turned on , but id I stay longer on the toilet I want the fan to turn on.
So the “Shortcut” needs to be something like:
If the door sensor is opened and closed 2- times in 5 min do nothing, but if its open and closed 1 time start the fan and then turn it off after 15 min,
But I cannot figure out how to do this in the apple shortcuts, can you help me.
Kind regards,
Maybe its just me that's tired, but do you need the Aqara App for making automation, say if I want to turn of my lights when the window is open? Should be able to do this in HomeKit right?!
Yes, you can go without Aqara app. For example, we use Aqara Motion sensor to trigger light in M1S Gen 2 hub. Automations are in Home app.
Does the Aqara Door & Window Sensor P2 work with any version of Echo Dot? I have V3, V4 and V5 in my home, all Echo Dot.
Thanks for sharing
My M2 HUB had an upgrade and supports Matter now...
@@robertmathers7852 I'm referring to the release of the M3 hub and a migration plan that moves devices from one hub to another. In the past, there hasn't been any hubs really able to do that. You had to re-pair all your devices with the new hub.
@@robertmathers7852 would be interesting to see what happens if you try it with a p2... what functionality is there
a few days ago, I couldn't add the aqara sensor p2 to Home assistant. Today, I could add it (may because of an update of ha?)
Anyway, for me, thread is the way to go. Yes, it's bulky :(
How do you get P2 firmware updates if using homekit ? what app can do the updates ?
How does their FP2 sensor work with HomeKit?
The battery status is visible on Home Assistant.
Was going to get into Aqara during prime day, but now that their new hub is coming, I’m just going to wait.
It's still going to be a while before the new hub arrives. Estimated some time next year.
How can i get Alexa to do voice notification that Window or Door open?
Can multiple thread border routers play well with each other, like a homepod+Aqara M3, or Alexa+Homepod, etc. Or should i expect problems?
Thread border routers from different manufacturers like this should ultimately play well together. You should not expect problems. In fact, the whole idea behind Matter and Thread is that all these devices will be able to work well together.
I have it added to my google home app fine and can see when the door is open or closed in the app. The one thing I cant seem to figure out is how to get notifications from the google home app when the door is opened, seems kinda useless if you cant get notifications. I must be missing something.
I'm in the same boat. It's been 4 hours of research. No luck. No notification sent to my speakers is a waste
I bought this sensor connected it to my google home and after that it kept disconnecting from wifi never got a notifications either . I downloaded the Aqara app and the sensor P2 wasn’t even on there own app. So I will be returning this sensor .
This sensor connects via thread (not wifi) and does not work in the current Aqara app. You can only pair it directly to a Matter controller.
Cuatro Preguntas IMPORTANTES:
Can anyone advice how long the battery of this sensor last?
It looks like this new hub will be needed to use Thread within Aqara's ecosytem. So, those of us who already have Aqara hubs and would want to use Aqara Thread devices within Aqara's app, have a new thing we'd need to buy. Pretty weak incentive when we could have near full functionality with the other ecosystems pretty much everyone who has Aqara stuff probably already has. I'm just over here waiting not so patiently for the M1S to get matter support. Maybe they'll drag their feet putting out stuff like this instead of doing that at all.
Is there a door sensor that is natively weather proof for outdoor use?
Not one that natively supports Apple Home. But I did weatherproof the Aqara zigbee contact sensors and have been using outside for about a year. Still going strong. Here’s what I did: ua-cam.com/video/4WY4aNWQcrc/v-deo.html
At least the battery is a reasonably priced one rather than those crazy 14650s in the eve door and window sensor.
Perfect replacement for the nest contact sensor (google will kill the nest guard next year)…
will stay with Zigbee for a couple of years before i will make any transition into Thread.
What zigbee devices can I use to reliably extend my aqara zigbee network?
The smart switches (with neutral) and the smart plug can extend your zigbee network.
Could you check if your WiFi router is enabled for ipv6?
@@lumitest9 not yet and am struggling with it. My ISP gives it on my modem but I can’t seem to get it on my Linksys mesh router. Does it matter ? (Pun intended)
Yes matter over thread does require ipv6.
I have a HomePod mini but when I try to connect it to HomeKit it tells me I need a border router. how can I solve it?
Update, now it only say “accessory unavailable”
I have the same issue. My sensor randomly disconnect and connects when it feels like it.
can you see the battery life in the Controller app?
Good question. No, it is not visible in the Controller app or Home+ either.
@@ShaneCreates Do you think it has to do with the type of battery?
Looks a lot like the Nest door sensors that are being discontinued
Home Assistant should be able to give you the battery status
Good point, thanks for sharing. Maybe it's time I setup Home Assistant...?? 🤔
@@ShaneCreates And SmartThings also can give you the battery!
I honestly have lost trust in Aqara Products. I have 8 Aqara T1 Contact sensors and all but one have failed me in less than 1 year. My zigbee mesh is really strong with mesh repeaters everywhere (LQI 255, RSSI -30ish).
Ever since I installed this my home kit automations won’t work with this sensor
No matter what I do. I cannot pair this sensor with Apple home.
What’s the issue? Have you used other thread -based accessories in your Apple Home setup before?
@@ShaneCreates Yes. I have Eve Energy, Eve Door Sensor and Nanoleaf bulb. All work fine.
I wasn’t able to pair until I reset the sensor (push the button quickly 10 times). After that, connected right away.
Can’t get mine to pair either. First thread device. I’ve got 3 HomePod minis so it should work correct?
Yawn.
Can we just hook it up to our wifi
We don’t care about Google Home
Some HomeKit users probably have Google devices!!!!!!!
I actually don't care about Apple home....
Google> all others
Google home assistant is best. But I use smartthings for best automations!
Agreed
