I live in Kyiv and I can say that we are ready to meet Russian forces here. People are getting ready, but of course we all hope that it won't happen. On the other hand, Russia has invaded Ukraine in 2014 so we have been waiting for this situation for a long 8 years.
Most of Ukrainians understand that if we start panic, nothing good will happen for sure. As an example, for 3 last weeks we had numerous calls to police about bombs in schools and in metro stations. I work in school and last Friday we evacuated because of that. Young children were panicking as they didn't know what to do, and that's why teachers had to stay calm: we have to take care of kids no matter what. War or not war, if adults panic, it's kids who suffer.

I don't know you, but as a fellow human being, I am proud of you. Your attitude is the right one. No one wants war, it would be horrible and we all should hope (and most of us do hope) that it won't come to that. At the same time, Putin's regime is infuriatingly ridiculous and his "give me an inch I'll take a yard" attitude should not be acceptable to the global community. I'm not talking specifically about the U.S. here. The U.S., like all countries, have their own failures and abominations, but two wrongs don't make a right and Putin simply should not be allowed to continue to oppress people. However, it's far easier to say when it isn't you who are at risk of being invaded. May I ask what is the general perception of the situation in your country at this time? And may I ask what you think other Ukrainians think of the U.S., NATO in general, and specific NATO countries like Canada, France, Germany, Britain, etc? At the end of the day, I just want to salute your wiseness when it comes to kids. You couldn't be more right. This must be an awfully traumatic time for these kids and the best...and pretty much only thing to do as adults and role models for these kids is to stay calm and be there for them. It must be a horrible situation that you are in. I would very much like to read about what you think of the situation in general and whatever else you may want to share. Oh, also, and this might sound like a stupid question, but does, in your opinion, Covid-19 have an impact on the whole situation and if so how? Is it a positive one or a negative one.....if there is one at all......I would very much like to read your answer, but I'd understand and respect if you decide not to. I sincerely wish you the best with all my heart. I truly want you guys to be okay. You are not in an easy position and things like this shouldn't be part of our allegedly modern era. I'm not a religious man but if I were I'd pray for you all....instead I'll just hope for the best and are there organizations taking donations that you think would help the situation? I'm pretty much even less of a rich man than I am a religious man lol, but still whatever I can save I'll send...I just wouldn't want to send it to the wrong place. Sorry if this sounds like pity, it is not, it's an attempt at solidarity and I, in no way, am trying to insult you and your fellow citizens. Again, I wish you the very best.

@Oskar Dora No. Russia has only two military bases outside of the country and both were by invitation. While the U.S. has over 200 foreign bases. So then when you look at what is going on in the Ukraine, which is basically a society divided between those who want closer ties to the West and those who want closer ties with Russia, you have to wonder who is really driving the civil unrest? Remember Ukraine is right on Russia’s border. We certainly would considered it practically an act of war if Russia was involved in Mexico in the same ways that the U.S. is in the Ukraine. Also remember that Putin seemed to virtually be bending over backwards to accommodate the U.S. on a joint missile defense shield with Russia under Bush. However, what killed the deal was when the U.S. refused to stop building new military bases deep in Eastern Europe. Again, imagine how we’d feel if Russia insisted on building new military bases today in Cuba and Mexico? This question ignores the fact that Russia doesn’t even have military bases there presently, as the U.S. already did have bases deep in Eastern Europe. So the seeming obsession with creating even more isn’t an action that would make Russia feel safe, We don’t want ukraine.

Retired Russian Vets going to volunteer to save Family and Friends from the threat of Fascist ethnic cleansing, sure and I salute them, but even those are a small amount. And nothing compared to the foreign volunteers serving in the Ukrainian Gov trenches, including NAZIs andAlQaeda Jihadist fresh from Syria, (Chechens mostly).
The people who defeated the Ukrainian Army are almost entirely the local inhabitants of DNR/LPR and US Intelligence has stated as much in numerous policy speeches and papers, most recently in an article in Foreign Policy Magazine by the RAND institute.
Western media and politicians are not reliable, unless they provide solid evidence it's more statisticly accurate to accept they are lying.
And as Zelensky, I get as a Ukrainian you have a low bar for standards of politicians as pretty much ALL of them have been corrupt and/or fascist but no way was Zelensky democratically elected and no way we should just right off his tyrannical crimes as 'par of the course'.
If a Gov is appointed without including the votes of Donbass and Crimea then that Gov has no claim to represent them. But what's more important is that millions of Ukrainians were denied the right to vote due to be migrant workers in Russia, while Ukrainian migrant workers in EU were not just counted, some estimates reported above 100% turn out for polling stations in Ukrainian Embassies in E.U. So either Ukrainians TRAVELLED hundreds of miles, across borders to stand in long lines to vote, or they voted twice. Or the Ukrainain Embassies stuffed their ballots.
Worse than that is the intimidation tactics of Hard Right Thugs who travelled to twons with high % of Russian speakers and threatened people with violence to deter them from voting for any candidates who were sufficiently anti-Russian.
And you need a Free Press to hold fair elections, that hasn't existed in Ukraine since 2015.
Let alone PEACEMAKER and the Russian Language laws, even the lack of a Census to accurately form the electoral roles.
Ukraine is nowhere near a Democracy. Who knows who would have run and defeated Zelensky if Ukraine was a safe place for anyone to compete in elections based on their policies.
What Zelensky has done is deplorable and the most authoritarian anywhere in Europe.
Ending the Independent Judiciary so he can throw his opposition in jail. Terrifying the population with threats of Martial law. Provoking the 2021 crisis by sending huge numbers of troops and tranks to the ceasefire line. Closing down all media critical of him... and the endless pilfering of state funds by Rada officials has continued under him, bringing the economy to the brink of collapse despite continue EU bail outs.
All of these are Ukrainian problems created by Ukrainians.
Russia's not to blame for the state Ukraine is in. Ukraine will never improve until Ukrainians take responsibility for it's corruption and political violence.

Hahaha! It's our typical Eastern European way. It's a result of Eastern Orthodoxy, which is quite different in it's outlook on life compared to Western Catholicism or Protestantism. The basic message of Orthodoxy is "we must endure and suffer" since the path to salvation involves some degree of discomfort. As Americans invoke the unalienable right to the "pursuit of happiness", we go the exact opposite way and we embrace the fact that life sucks. This may sound suicidal or like some BDSM fetish 😀and it does have downsides, but it does prepare you mentally for hardship. Things that Westerners often consider unbearable, are for us minor inconveniences. As a poem from my country (Romania) once said: "Gladly we'll suffer through it all/Be it peace, be it war"
This spirit was captured well in the mini-series Chernobyl on HBO... I loved the speech by Shcherbina: "This is what has set our people apart. 1000 years of sacrifice in our veins. And every generation must know its own suffering." That word is key: must. Or the scene when the miners agree to go to Chernobyl once they realize what is happening. They choose to die/risk death of their own free will. The series is written by a Westerner, British I think, but of all the Western films and other media depicting the East, it's the only time I felt: they get it! And you could say, it's just some show, it's not accurate, but read the real-life speech to his troops by a Serb officer, Dragutin Gavrilovic in WW1, during the defence of Belgrade against the Germany and Austria-Hungary. He tells the soldiers not to worry about their lives, because they no longer exist and their regiment has been struck from the records. They simply put flowers on their guns and uniforms and they attack. The Serb defence of Belgrade was so fierce, that the German commander August von Mackensen said afterwards: "We fought against an army you only hear about in fairytales" and he made a small monument to honour his opponents, which simply says in German and Serbo-Croat: "Here rest Serb heroes".

This video is wrong on so many levels it’s hard to pick were to start:
    1. The map of Ukraine is depicted without Crimea. Does this show accepts the russian annexation? Last time I checked the US an global community recognise Crimea as Ukrainian territory
    2. The “relaxed” mode of Ukrainian attitude is at best a poor reporting or just pure manipulation. I am Ukrainian and my family and friends live in Ukraine and I can say with confidence that people are not relaxed about this. The number of mental health issues spiked up enormously in the recent years of russian aggression
    3. Ukrainians are getting prepared for the worst, civil people go through trainings on how to behave in various scenarios. Saying that the country is not doing anything is jus offensive. Ukrainians live in the state of military conflict for more than 8 years now and it’s not surprising that they don’t run around on the streets stocking up on toilet paper like some other people do in the slightest stressful situations

The Americans don't invade countries on the false pretext of protecting expats living in the border regions of neighbouring countries (they invade on the pretext of stealing a nation's wealth or fighting terrorists/dictators they created or don't like).
This whole venture for Putin is because Russia has not been invited to become a NATO member - THAT is what Putin is after: NATO membership.
Putin is too proud to submit an application for membership of his own (as all former Warsaw Pact countries who have since become NATO members had to do). He want's to be invited into the club.
Strategically, as a user of Atlantic sea-routes, Russia has every right to be considered for NATO membership in securing its Atlantic access interests. And NATO would be better served with Russia in the alliance (where it could influence/allay Russian anxiety over external threats) rather than keeping it out and keeping it as a likely belligerent.

A territory that was part of Russia longer than California has been part of the US. Given that, is it a given that Crimea does not, in actuality, prefer to be part of Russia rather than part of Ukraine? It houses a major Russia naval base (which Russia still maintained by agreement with Ukraine even after having given Ukraine independence).

    • @00SmileTime00
      @00SmileTime00 2 роки тому +8

Crimea was part of Russia from the late 1700s. In 1954 it was transferred to the Ukrainian SSR but was still part of the Soviet Union. When the Western powers carved up the USSR in 1990 they arbitrarily and unilaterally decided to make Crimea part of the new nation of Ukraine to further hobble to development of the new Russian Federation by denying them a port in the Black Sea. There was never any legitimate reason for Crimea to be part of Ukraine.
Also the population of Crimea is nearly 60% ethnically Russian (to just 20% ethnically Ukrainian) and they held a referendum in 2014 and voted to join Russia.
So you know, "the world" (by which you only mean NATO and its allies anyway) may not have recognised it but the people who actually live there? Very much do.
