Man, I can still remember my first Petra concert, for THIS tour. I've always been a huge Journey/Steve Perry fan, and I always thought John was the Christian Steve Perry!! The way he dressed, moved, and his vocals...amazing, truly amazing to this day!
I saw Petra on their very first tour for their self-titled album in a very small church venue and followed them all the way through their career. A few years later I worked at a Christian radio station that brought them into town for three concerts and got to meet them and talk with them. They are truly in my opinion the best Christian rock musicians of all time.
This live performance sounds better than the album version! Love John’s voice. Petra’s message is always spot on biblical. I’ve been listening to them in good times and bad times since I was 10 years old. Never gets old
Petra rocks! They're my most fave band until now. From their music and to their message, very powerful! Compromising has no place in their songs. They have awesome titles of the song and they have qoutes from the bible. Nice to watch this vdio, no way we had a chance to watch their vdios those time there in Philippines. It's worth a view. More power to Petra!
carolm2008 WROTE: "I consider them equal in talent, just not similar in style. Both are world class singers that most people don't know about and that is a shame." -Carol, I couldn't agree more!
This Album was my second Petra Album. (Fired Up was my first.) And I love this music, the music (Equally John and Greg, and Bob (from the first CD)) helped bring many (myself included) to GOD.
- Ephesians 3:14 - For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, - Ephesians 3:15 - Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, - Ephesians 3:16 - That HE would grant you, according to the riches of HIS glory, to be strengthened with might by HIS Spirit in the inner man;
Bob hartman is one of the best guitar players to never get any credit, John Schlitt is hands down the best vocalist ever, Ronnie cates has one of the heaviest Bass sound I've ever heard, John Lawry is an astonishing Keyboard player, Louie weaver is the only drummer perta should have ever had, one of my early influences.
Thanks for sharing! Too bad the audio isn't a little clearer, but I 'spose it's better than nothing! I've got the Not of This World and Petra Praise albums; anybody got suggestions for other ones I should get? (I love Petra, but I don't know as much about them as I would like)
Petra Praise 2: We Need Jesus and Beyond Belief is also a good album. The follow up Unseen Power is similar in style. Wake-Up Call, No Doubt, God Fixation, Double Take, Revival, Jekyll and Hyde, Farewell. Other albums not mentioned previously are On Fire!, Back to the Street, This Means War!, Beat The System, More Power To Ya', Never Say Die, Washes Whiter Than, Come And Join Us, and their self-titled album in 1974, Petra. You might as well collect John Schlitt's five albums and Greg X Volz albums, but The River Is Rising is the best. Other Petra band members past and present have also made solo albums.
Not really. Both are awesome, but being a singer myself in a band that covered songs from both eras of Petra, Schlitt is a better overall singer. That said, no on could hit a high falsetto like Volz -- the notes at the end of Adoni require being neutered to hit. And the note held at the end of Godpleaser is the longest pure note I've ever heard. Volz had better ballad dynamics -- listen to Road to Zion -- just perfect. But Volz could never dream of singing All the King's Horses.
John's voice is like comfort food for those who heard it growing up.
Amen brother
😊

Saw this concert... wow MEMORIES... Great Christain Band...
John Schlitt has my favorite voice in the world. I grew up on Petra. I've met him a few times- he's wonderfully humble and down-to-earth.

Bob Hartman is also one of the best song writers to ever live
"Never been any reason" still receives air play. I would say that is their biggest hit.
It would be nice for them to put some lightning chords with the electric guitars in their songs like the group Boston does.
Awesome! Do you have any other live videos from this time frame, or earlier?
@luvlipstickkisses
He was in the secular rock band called Head East. They had a hit with a song called Since You Been Gone.
mijlaid they wrote that song?????
Love the Don Johnson suit!!!

I miss Mark Kelly. His backing vocals were just as important as his bass playing
This was Ronny Cates on this song. Mark is a great singer though
@@cvs2kids I know its Ronny...that's why I said I miss Mark. No offense, just my preference.
@crispaniagua The man sais Hate the sin , but love the Sinner.
