Cheap Chinese Night Vision is Finally Here

- What if you could get a pair of binocular night vision for the same price as a monocular? Well, there would be tradeoffs, obviously. The InfiRay Jerry 31 duals are a fully featured set of articulating, binocular night vision that costs the same or a bit less than a high end PVS-14. Sounds nice, but there's no such thing as a free lunch so let's see what compromises have to be made to hit that price point.

so these vs PVS-14 with Elbit tube?
Elbit GP PVS-14 still remains the best buy for a first NV device.
@@Hoplopfheil Hop has spoken!
@@HoplopfheilGP isn't really cheaper than WP anymore. Unless you get used.
@@Nathan-jh1ho if we go to my favorite website, Custom Night Vision, we see that an Elbit GP tube is 600 bucks cheaper than an Elbit WP tube for the handpicked option.
@@Hoplopfheil probolody becuase the GP price is from previous shipment of tubes. All Elbit tubes have gone up significantly in price, and CNV's WP price (of the same spec) have been going up. If the GP does become in stock again, I doubt the price would stay, unless they're still getting deliveries from order placed more than a year ago.
Directly from Elbit the GP tube is only about $100 less than WP

Mono tube units with these tubes are 2k. You can afford it if you budget properly. For duals, 4k is very budget for a new unit, considering most new gen 3 units are 7-8k new on the low end

There really isn’t that much difference between military and civilian stuff from China. I swear to god those Chinese 3x prism scopes they use on the Type -197 is the EXACT same shit swamp Fox sells
If this is for sale here does buying it make it cheaper for the PLA
Holosun has already proved itself as a reputable budget brand so I'm honestly really optimistic with third party companies getting into the civilian night vision market and making quality tubes for a good price. This is the VERY FIRST offering of decent commercial night vision. In theory it will only get better (by the same company or others deciding to do the same and sell primarily to the civilian market). I just received the Jerry14 from Custom Night Vision.
My logic was exactly what you presented at the end of the video. I had no nightvision and wanted to buy something that would work well enough. I will upgrade eventually but right now just over $2k got me something usable.
Thoroughly enjoying mine, and super fair review as always.
One thing I can add is although the specs are relatively low, the intensifiers themselves are super clean and free of blems.
they seem to be prioritizing cleanliness over raw performance, higher spec tubes are likely not able to be exported.
So i recently got to play with some Jerry 31s...while having a Bino on my head was "cooler", the tube performance is what kept bugging me. I see in the video an Omni 4 Gen 3 tube was used in comparison which...is a thick filmed tube which i think was made in the early 2000s and is very very old. But granted if its about affordability - i get it. But the question you mentioned "Low performing duals over high performing monocular". Ive spent my entire military career under a mono. Even working with SF guys in afghanistan who had PVS-15s and me with a little ol' PVS-14, I just got used to it. Ive even done CQB at night under a PVS14 pretty well. Today I still own a Monocular device with an L3 Omni 8 tube which the tube i got for roughly 1200 dollars and threw it in my tanto housing with Carson milspec glass and came in under 2200 total for my set up. When using the Jerry 31s, I couldnt see shit. We had targets 70 meters away and it was so dark i couldnt even see them. Yea, i had duals on my head...but what good is it if theyre not performing? I tried running a few drills with them and I just couldnt. A white light was a better option than those and I had to use IR just to scan for targets, which goes outside of light discipline (or IR discipline). I ran the same drives with my Thin Filmed Gen 3 Omni 8 tube and it was like the sun came back up comared to the Jerrys. I was moving around better because i could actually see, i didnt need IR to scan for the steel targets - I saw them, aimed, and fired. I may be biased to a mono device because I always tell people its "good enough" to get everything done. You most certainly can drive with them as ive done it godddd knows how many times, you can easily navigate in woods with them, you can do everything with them. Are binos easier? Yes...but if you have shit tubes in them, then whats the point? I know 3 friends who got Jerry 31s because it was "BUDGET BINOS!" and they "liked" them...until they looked through a few of our Gen3 tubes. Granted theyre "newer" Gen3 tubes, not Omni 4 tubes made during the invasion of Afghanistan and immediatly sold them and just got a PVS14 and are much much happier. This is just an anecdotal of 1 group of guys, so do take it with a grain of salt. I have seen guys in some FB groups saying they were "good enough" for what they use them for but thats what you need to ask yourself..."What is your use case for nods?" In middle land florida out towards Okeechobee there is absolutely NO light and we tested these devices on zero lum nights and they just were so useless. Im not trying to steer people away from Jerry 31s or NNVT tubes in general...just make sure you know your use case and how dark of an environment you may be in to where you need that performance
I'm in the uk, and the prices on these optice are quite attractive, the J14 being £2100, the J31 being £3200. Compared to the lowest price gen 3 pvs14 (of not much higher FOM than the j31 tubes) being £4500 at least, but to get a better gen 3 pvs14 would be £5000-£7000.

@@aesthetic8780the nicer Chinese tubes are the same price or more expensive than photonis.. so there is no point.
@@kevin11288 I've heard getting a hold of Photonis tubes is pretty difficult right now. Elbit XLSH tubes not being a thing anymore sucks to. I feel lucky as all hell getting my Omni 8 for as low of a price as I did.
@@aesthetic8780 the difference is definitely noticable, but not a deal breaker. With the Jerry glass having a smaller objective (looking towards your target) lense there's a decent bit less light coming into the IIT in addition to the cheaper glass and coating. Great video as always. I have been looking at the Jerry 14.
I believe this is a good option for people wanting cheap duals specifically. My WP RNVGs were 8000 back in 2021. I also have a very high spec pvs14. The 14 cost me 3500 and I would much prefer the performance of that device over this one in the video. If you are planning on using your NV in very low ambient light or wooded areas, I believe you'd be better served with a high quality 14.
It seems like these cheap duals would be better suited to urban usage, where generous light pollution boosts the performance just enough to peer into the shadows effectively.
The Jerry31's have been available since the end of November, I got a pair as an inbetween set while waiting for the manual gain rugged housings. The Jerry31's really aren't bad for the price, I have shot, hiked, and drove with them and they are pretty solid despite the spec sheets

The ADNV-G14P looks promising, for about $1700 the sensor appears to keep up with Gen 2 and even some older Gen 3 tubes in really dark conditions. It's photonis technology. But NVT-4 is XD-4. Don't buy them. Get NVT-5 or NVT-7 instead. NVT 7 is 4G and NVT-5 is XR-5.
Get green phosphor if you can with anything that has NNVT image intensifiers. They’ve been making it a lot longer than WP and it allows you to see more into shadows and things like that. Unless you specifically want WP for the “drip” GP will perform slightly better with NNVT.

My NVM 14 has a generation 3 tube and I think it compares pretty favorably to the PVS 14 I used in the military. The controls are a little goofy but the actual night vision performance is good.

All the people complaining about $4000 nv being unobtainable need to change their mindset and grind set fr. Call it cope but you don’t have to have binos or a lam you don’t have to act like you’ll be doing high speed cqb night ops. It looks like the "Jerry 14" doesnt have all the automatic crap.
Seems that it's better than nothing. If the competition goes up and price goes down i'd consider it.
It does, you can enable it but I wouldn't.
does it make sense to use the NNVT tubes but in carson glass and body? Would that solve a lot of the issues or would it basically make more sense just to buy a milsepc pvs14 at that point?
We need a Luty option for tube NV. DIY with off the shelf parts and processes. People are making semiconductors and vacuum tubes in their workshops, I know we can figure out how to whip up decent NV tubes.
Another actually useful video from Hop unlike fluff from sponsored jackasses
I disagree on getting less practical use out of a monocular vs duals. My monocular can come with me anywhere in a small pouch and be handheld, so I can take it places and use them without needing a helmet system. Binos don’t have the same luxury, as they are much harder to use when not mounted to your head. Shooting is a minority of my NV time and I like the simplicity of my PVS14 for seeing at night.
I think a mono is way more practical, but binos are way more fun. Individual judgement call.
The first quads were made for aviation, if I'm not wrong. There's non-shooting activties that benefit from higher FOV and depth perception.
No duels, you're just a poor lol. Remember to go into financial debt to win the approval of guntube larpers.
Are the mounts and housings modular to where you could start with a monocular and then add a second later on to get a binocular set?
Can't seem to find them or the monocular variant in Europe. I assume they go by an other name here or there is just no distributor. Could be a good option with how expensive the current very limited options available are.
