  • This started as a project to give my daughters something to carry their water bottles on family rides. Eventually, we came up with a saddle drink holder design that I really liked. It works great, stays out of the way, and is better than all the other ways I used to try and bring water on a ride. Hope it helps, and good luck with your projects.

I'm inspired in part just by the fact that you did this nice work with so few tools. Not many people cut leather with a hunting knife, but I think not many people must be as good as you are with sharpening knifes. The buckle was also a great addition. My son wants to get into leatherwork, but he's worried about the cost of tools. I'm going to direct him to this video.

Thanks for the positive comments, Joel. The reality is that I'm a hobby leathercrafter. However, as I hope to encourage people with this video, even with just a few simple tools, you can get started making things you can use. If you're son is interested, I'd encourage him to keep it simple and not focus on all the tools. Instead, if he focuses on building a solid skill set and knowledge, he will be better in the long run. Then, when he decides he likes it and has saved up some money, he can buy a few tools here and there to do some techniques that will help. Build the skill first, then spend the money and add the technology. At least, that's my 2 cents. Tell him good luck and thanks for checking out the video!

Thank you for the encouragement and advice, sir. I appreciate it. I actually just picked myself up a nylon mallet recently. Works great. I'll also keep your other advice in mind, and appreciate the suggestions. Thanks for the subscription, and look forward to chatting with you more in the future!

Are you willing to share the pattern, for those of us who enjoy working with leather?

Thanks for the comment. I'll have to see what I can come up with. I made a template for the horn bag video and put it on our website. I'll see if I can get one made for these as well.
