Making a 21-Strand Cinch
Переглядів 8496 місяців тому
This video shows the construction of a 21-strand mohair cinch. Tying your own cinch is a good way to make some of your own gear. It's a simple skill that most people can learn, and you don't need a big shop or a lot of tools to do it. In the end, you'll also get a quality cinch that should last for a long time. 30-Day Colt Starting Time-Lapse
Переглядів 4749 місяців тому
Video time-lapse of the first 30 days on a colt we call Biscuit. I'll be the first to admit that I don't get as much accomplished in 30 days as lots of people out there. That's fine with me. I don't necessarily need to get a lot done or ask the colt to do things very fast in the first 30 days. Instead, I'm happy this colt knows what to do, how to do it, and willingly does it. Making a bosal hanger out of some chap leather. There are lots of different ways to make these, and seems like most are made out of latigo leather. However, I'm happy with how this turned out. As you can see, if you have the right kind of leather and a knife, you can make one pretty easily. It's not complicated. I hope these videos encourage some of you to make your own gear. "Roxy" is a 2-year-old AQHA blue roan filly. This video shows the first few weeks of the starting process. It begins with a little groundwork and then shows a few clips of each day. My goal at the end of starting a colt isn't necessarily to have them do the most or do things the fastest. Instead, I'm happy if they know what I want, know how to do it, and do it willingly. Making a Saddle Drink Holder

This started as a project to give my daughters something to carry their water bottles on family rides. Eventually, we came up with a saddle drink holder design that I really liked. 2 YO AQHA Red Roan Gelding. GENTLE. We bought this colt as a weanling and have owned him the past 18 months. “Goose” has a great temperament, is definitely in your pocket, but has manners as well. You should tape the back of your leather before tooling it and it won’t get stretched out of shape packing tape works great or even painters tape

    Very shoddy work and design, you would've been smarter to buy a proper pattern for that model of weapon or, better yet, buy a finished holster from a reputable and knowledgeable maker.

    Is this for attaching round reins?

    • @flyingaoutfitters
      @flyingaoutfitters 3 місяці тому

      They can be used for lots of types of reins. I'm not 100% sure, but my guess is that they were traditionally used to connect romel reins to the chains. Today, lots of people connect their reins with snaps, but in the past, these would have been a good way to connect reins in a way where they could also be interchanged. I hope that answers your question.

    I'm inspired in part just by the fact that you did this nice work with so few tools. Not many people cut leather with a hunting knife, but I think not many people must be as good as you are with sharpening knifes. The buckle was also a great addition. My son wants to get into leatherwork, but he's worried about the cost of tools. I'm going to direct him to this video.

    • @flyingaoutfitters
      @flyingaoutfitters 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the positive comments, Joel. The reality is that I'm a hobby leathercrafter. However, as I hope to encourage people with this video, even with just a few simple tools, you can get started making things you can use. If you're son is interested, I'd encourage him to keep it simple and not focus on all the tools. Instead, if he focuses on building a solid skill set and knowledge, he will be better in the long run. Then, when he decides he likes it and has saved up some money, he can buy a few tools here and there to do some techniques that will help. Build the skill first, then spend the money and add the technology. At least, that's my 2 cents. Tell him good luck and thanks for checking out the video!

    Beautiful work but what is it used for?

    • @flyingaoutfitters
      @flyingaoutfitters 3 місяці тому

      Thanks, DrChattan. I braided it because I had a lazy colt. I didn't want to dull him to my spurs, so I braided this quirt. To help motivate him, I could tap him with it and keep his sides more sensitive to my leg cues. Worked great and I hope to braid more in the future. Thanks for checking it out.

    Im still not convinced there wasn't some witch craft or voodoo magic to create that eye. But there are people who can fold fitted sheets so I guess anything is possible. All joking aside that was an awesome video and I'm definitely going to make some leadropes like that! I am wondering how long was your steel rod you were using for measurements?

    • @flyingaoutfitters
      @flyingaoutfitters 3 місяці тому

      haha. I know, it's crazy how it all connects! I think the guy who figured it out had waaay too much time on his hands. As far as the steel, it is actually a little fid I made. It is about 8.5" long, and the biggest thing about it is that it helps you transfer measurements easily. Mine is just some steel rod that I cut and then ground one end to a dull point. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for checking out the channel!

    Muy buen trabajo. Pero puedo hacer unas sugerencias. Usa un martillo de nylon o madera (serán más grandes para tener la misma pegada que ese martillo), es que cuando golpeas hierro con hierro el que peor sale son los marcadores y sacabocados por qué son más blandos. Hay unas agujas planas que sirven para coser con tiras de cuero y te será más fácil pasar lo con ellas. Y lo ultimo es el aceite de pata de buey tiene más del 50% de aceite de girasol, sustituyelo. Es un placer verte trabajar ánimo y sigue así.
