    Waylon makes a GREAT point. Today's "music" is all about looks and not about how artists sound. RIP Hoss.

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx 4 роки тому +3

      Not only image but also the fact that most artists follow whatever the label says they should do. And it’s not just music, it’s every form of entertainment. The fact that Melissa McCarthy (regardless what you think of her) even has a movie career almost surprises me because she don’t fit in that ideal. But then again, hell will freeze over before she’s ever put in a serious movie, let alone get an Oscar nomination. She ain’t got the “look”.
      And Joplin wasn’t all that great to be honest. She had little range, her best songs were written by other people and her habits would a precluded any ability to actually build a solid career out of. Amy Winehouse was very similar. Her habits actually hampered her career (she was well known for canceling shows), her alcoholism was destroying her voice and while she had 1 hit, her music didn’t have universal appeal. As Lemmy once said (referring to Randy Rhoads, but applies to all of them) it’s amazing what dying will do for someone’s career. Good ones became great and the longer they are dead, the better they become.

      @@waylonvids One look into the shooting deaths that occur, more specifically homicides, and what you see is a commonality that can't be ignored. The perpetrators overwhelmingly are in possession of a firearm illegally, meaning the bad guys couldn't give 2 craps about gun laws. When examining mass shootings in particular you find that not only are the overwhelming majority of committers in illegal possession, but they also are overwhelmingly committing the act in 'gun free zones'. Again, meaning that restrictive gun laws don't matter one iota to someone intent on inflicting harm. You would also find, if you were inclined to look, that there are many, many instances where legal guns were used effectively in defending a person or group from someone attempting to rob, rape or murder. As for Waylon's response to the question posed in this video, he is absolutely correct. These wack-a-doodles out here causing mayhem get wall-to-wall coverage in media, their names and likenesses plastered on screens and pages. Sensationalizing this behavior and those guilty of exhibiting such has led to many more deaths than gun restrictions have prevented. Going back to Bonnie and Clyde, the James gang, Charles Manson... the list keeps growing.

      @@deucefloyd9858 That doesn't why gun violence is the #1 cause of death of children/youth in the USA. A feat no other country in the world matches or wants to. The fact that mass shooting a daily occurrence in the USA doesn't happen anywhere in the world is directly tied to the proliferation of guns in the USA, another feat that no other country claims with more guns than people.
      No other country in the world has a right to bear arms, thus no other country in the world allows it's children to offered up as sacrifices to gun culture.

    First album I ever owned was a Waylon Jennings RCA record "Love of the Common People" I knew the words to every song on that album before I was even old enough to understand them. I loved Waylon so much and still do to this day. I hope Waylon knew how much he meant to his fans. I wrote a letter to Waylon once telling him how much his music had meant to me and how he inspired me to get into music. Waylon sent me a handwritten letter and a picture book that he signed on the front cover "To John- Best Wishes always- and good luck with your music Hoss!- Waylon Jennings"
    I have that picture book hanging on my wall in my studio today, and the letter he wrote me is tucked inside the book. Miss ya Waylon- hope to see you again someday. I bet he's on tour right now with Johnny Cash! Forgive us Waylon if we hang on to the other half of the Highwaymen for a little while longer! Say hello to George Jones for me!

Bobby Bare sure was cool to go to Chet Atkins at RCA where he was signed, and tell him that there was a guy in AZ that he needed to hear. He told him that he may be shooting himself in the foot bringing him up because they did a somewhat similar style of "folk/country", but that Waylon sure did it better. That was the type of selfless void of ego thing that one would be hard pressed to find happen today.

I'm not sure what you downloaded but I will also tell you that my last album "TILL I DIE" has the song that I actually co-wrote with my hero Waylon when I was 22yrs old and working on my debut album for Asylum Records: "Like a Train". Unfortunately the label didn't like the song we wrote very much, in fact I heard that it was "too country". It is a shame that it actually took me 20yrs to get it out there. No he never did an actual album, but he did record several of Buddy's songs through the years like "It's So Easy" in his early years, a medley with The Crickets in 1978, and "Learning The Game" on a Buddy tribute album in 1996.
      Speaking of the medley, he did it live on the TV Special with James Garner in 1980, but this footage was shot from the audience in Lubbock, TX celebrating Buddy's birthday.
