Eric Brosius is reason why people fell in love with this game.I was a kid who didn't even know how to use a computer.I would just sit in my room and watch my elder brother play the demo. Then he bought the full version as soon as it came out and my childhood took a very different turn.I never connected so well with any other game.Even today, I watch the cutscenes and listen to score. Around the same time , Matrix came out and it was just perfectly splendid. Then in 2000 , Thief 2. That's when my brother and I heard this track and we knew that the memory of this game and this music will stay with us forever. Thanks Looking Glass. Thanks Stephen Russel. Thanks Eric Brosius.
I used to download fan missions and play Thief 1&2 like crazy every day, it's probably still my favorite computer game of all time and always will be like a childhood memory for me.
I was a kid when i played this game. I remember once i had a weird dream and i could hear this music in it XD That level was magic.. it was like if you where in another onyric dimension..
Eric Brosius did some truly beautiful work in this game. This track in particular... it's so calm, so subtle, so peaceful. And yet that gentle tonal shift in the melody twists it to really emphasize the point of the peacefulness; that everyone is dead. Everything is quiet and peaceful, because the entire population of a village was massacred. When people question whether games - despite being the amalgamation of multiple forms of art - can be considered "art", I find myself remembering moments like this. If your definition of "Art" with a big A requires some poignant or profound element that elevates it above mere competence and renders it something so soulful, so impossible to recapture or reproduce that it borders on magic? This level, and this track, surely achieves it.
At the end of Thief:TDP I considered the Hammerites somewhat ok guys. Yes, they were a bit fanatic, but they had their just place in the balance of things. By this mission, I'd come to the point that I no longer considered the Mechanists to me related to the Hammerites. Through the slaughter of nature and Pagan children had they transformed into a new evil. I did not kill any of them, but made them pay none the less.
Ah, this is good. Thanks for posting it. I still have the CD for this game. Haven't figured out how to make the cutscenes work on Windows Vista on my new computer quite yet. Very chilling music, makes you remember the dark and wonderful mood of Thief.
Probably the best mission in the entire series, this level was (and still) unique like the ambience, the design, and everything. Looking glass studio knew what they were doing 😄
@Jambrek it's because: 1: when you get into an actual mission it's alot more linear 2: in TDS if you get caught it's way harder to fight your way out, which i think makes it seem more annoying than scary
@spoonalisk Actually it was only difficult if you didn't stockpile flashbombs. If you did, fighting your way out became almost insultingly easy, and the Enter the Cradle mission became not-scary at all, given that you could literally kill the Puppets with them.
@Andreus yeah well i think that's cheap anyway, maybe thief, DP and thief 2 bias me against using flash bombs, i would always fight if i was discovered. yeah enter the cradle isnt that hard.. what im annoyed at is how easy the final bit in the streets is, if you use noisemaker arrows it becomes ridiculously easy..
Builds your roofs of dead wood. Builds your walls of dead stone. Builds your dreams of dead thoughts.
This level is so sad, especially when you go into the huts and see the dead still reliving their final moments, this song fits perfectly
thief 1, 2, and deadly shadows are still the pinnacle of sound design and ambience. nothing else compares.
STALKER is also good with it

Best tune in any video game EVER. It stays with you ...forever more ...and is so deeply sad and achingly beautiful.

You all came for this one.
No .We came for 1:17 :)
That synth is exquisite 😘
This was the saddest mission in all of Thief series

i piled them up and tossed them all into the river so they would drown and be used as fertilizer lol
Well this soundtrack shapes itself as you progress the level!

This is some of the best ambiance, _evah._

This is awesome!!! Timeless soundtrack!!!
Very very relaxing and peacefull...
Karras got what was coming to him.
I still get the goosebumps
1:16 Strangely I find this comforting.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm pretty far from a pagan sympathizer, but this was a very emotionally moving mission.

Очень впечатляет BRAVO Eric ))))))))))))
Thank you for posting this! Really! Lovely to get nostalgic like that.
I could just listen to this for hours and hours
thx for the upload!!
is there a mix , or extended version, of these pagan soundtracks in Thief? this video is TOO short for its own good.
This game is so epic
I think this is so great! Truly love it!
Greetings to Thief fans ;)
This one is perfect for Space Engine
@PjRads me too, hands down one of the most immersive games i've ever played
Zrobiłem coś strasznego, ale imię Karrasa pozostanie nieskalane!

@Gneisenau to true thanks for posting PHXxX
Someone make a 10000 h version of the song plz
1:15 to 3:37 is kind of relaxing to

i never bought flashbombs, and also youre talking about thief deadly shadows
and what puppets? i would do that level again if i wasnt so bad at it-
No surprise theres no dislikes :)
My favorite ambient music
