    Thank you SO MUCH for the tip about placing each petal 'over' each other! I always have such a stressful time using the 'traditional' method! Also, I love that you only use one size cutter. Thank you for sharing.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial! You make it look so easy! I’m just wondering, is the fondant icing sugar you’d use the make the flowers? Or is it the fondant icing ready to roll stuff? Also is there an alternative to using alcohol for the watercolour?

    Is flower paste the same thing as gum paste and is paste color the same as food coloring like the gel or icing colors? Sorry I’m in the USA and we may just call these different things.

    How to make or where to buy flour paste or is it fondant ?

  • @jazbennett6206
    @jazbennett6206 6 років тому +1

    Hi Billie - I just wanted to ask if the flower paste will taste of vodka after painting the petals w/ this effect?
    Also, is it safe for children to eat?

    • @christianet.8433
      @christianet.8433 6 років тому +1

      Jaz Bennett the vodka will actually evaporate and the flower won’t smell or taste vodka. This same technique is also use to make watercolor cookies.

      It's never recommended that anyone eat flower paste roses, there are many inedible components like the polystyrene ball at the centre, others have wire, toothpicks etc. They are only made of as much edible components as possible was it is sitting on or brushed up against a cake which is edible. Eating flower paste flowers should be deterred and especially by children. 🙂

      +Emily Brawn thank you Emily! My cutters are really old and I can't find the exact ones (they are a mix of two sets) but this set of three has good sizes in it so I'd recommend these as an alternative www.thecakedecoratingcompany.co.uk/large-rose-petal-cutters-set-of-3-by-sunflower-sugar-art?acc=da4fb5c6e93e74d3df8527599fa62642

    Great video! Just had a question about the vodka - I can get hold of any. Do you have to use alcohol with that high a percentage or can you get the same effect using a standard percentage vodka?

    • @SweetieDarlingCakes
      @SweetieDarlingCakes  6 років тому

      Hi Amy, you can use a high percentage vodka, it will just take a bit longer to evaporate away. You could also use something like rejuvenator spirit which is a high percentage alcohol for cake decorating 😊xx

    • @cathieh.7225
      @cathieh.7225 6 років тому

      I think that one is a Polish vodka about 95% proof. In Australia the higher the proof the more expensive we can get is Rose Spirit but only in small quantities with the cost of the small bottle we may as well buy the high proof Polish vodka.

    Please can you tell me the difference between Flowerpaste, sugarpaste & fondant? I'm new at this & confused 🤔 I've bought different colours of fondant & large pack of white fondant but can't see sugarpaste in the supermarket.

    • @SweetieDarlingCakes
      @SweetieDarlingCakes  6 років тому +1

      Hi Catherine! So sugarpaste and fondant are the same thing. Sugarpaste is more the English name for fondant but I prefer the word fondant haha! This is the icing you’d use to roll out and cover a cake with. Fondant icing sugar is a different thing entirely, you add water to that to make a runny icing that you would dip something like French Fancies into. Flower paste and gum paste are neat enough the same thing (flower paste is English, gum paste is the American name). This is he icing you’d roll out super thinly to make sugar flowers, it dries really hard really quickly. I hope that helps a bit ☺️xx

    Hiya, I'm interested to know how you would attach them to a cake? Would royal icing be sufficient? I'm doing a gumpaste rose centrepiece for a bought wedding cake. Any tips welcome.

    • @SweetieDarlingCakes
      @SweetieDarlingCakes  6 років тому +1

      Hi Cath! You can use a cocktail stick pushed into the centre during the making of the rose and then use that to anchor the rose into the cake, along with using royal icing to stick the rose to the cake as well ☺️ Should keep it nice and secure xx

      Thank you so much Cammy! To be honest, it varies depending on the weather. I normally let them dry until I can pick them up without the top flopping backwards but before they are so dry I can't bend them at all... there's a fine line so you have to keep an eye on them but it's normally between 5 and 15 minutes I'd say... xx
