    I’m an immigrant from Mexico and the most common stereotype I had to face when I was a freshman in high school was when people asked me if I was getting deported! I felt othered.

    1970 I was sent home for speaking Spanish. I was assigned students from South America. Not everyone spoke Spanish, I learned Japanese and Portuguese. Thank you California

    Well said. Keep forging forward. I was told many of the things you experienced and bought into it. Labeled may things and even though I tried my best was told "Stop trying so hard. Don't be a perfectionist. Always told to lower my expectations." Never give up.

    My wife is a darker skinned indigenous Peruvian and went to college and is now a corporate executive, and no one has ever said anything about her race in all of her 30 plus years of life (except for me regularly telling her she looks like an Incan warrior princess…lol), so idk what ppl are even rly talking about…

    What's a Mexican???

    • @internetuser8922

      For anyone who is actually curious about the difference: A Mexican is just someone that is from the country of Mexico. Chicanos are Mexican-Americans. Hispanics are people with ancestors from Spain. Latinos are people with ancestors from Latin America.

    You can take every negative thing she just said and turn it into a positive thing-Pregnant at 17? Many women "hit the wall" at 43, bitter they never had a child. When you are 43 and see you child grow up you will not experience "the bitterness"... etc...

    • @bast713
      @bast713 9 місяців тому +1

      Being pregnant young tends to stifle the economic and career opportunities of young women. It makes it harder for them. So there is nothing wrong with starting a family young, but it seems as if her message was that she wants more for herself than what people have told her she's capable of achieving based on their preconceptions of her. Also, women don't hit a wall - they're less valued as they age by a youth obsessed culture. Every childless by choice woman I know is only bitter that people won't respect their choices.

      @@Ghostxfied Grow a tough skin. I grew up as a Turcic person in a Central Asian country, where we were discriminated against. Then I immigrated to Canada, where we were discriminated against as immigrants from former USSR, and became an army officer. Everyone faces stereotypes. Crying and trying to get other people to change their opinions is not the way to change the relationship vis-a-vis other people. It is a Sisyphus labour. Either grow a tough skin or show some skin. It's your choice.
