Enjoyed this thoroughly. My challenge at the moment is being able to navigate (to the area I where I want it) the cue ball. I didn't realise (when playing the black after potting the red), in that particular instance, only central position would be suffice. No side or screw or anything like that to come off a cushion and land nicely on a red. I also didn't realise that you'd need a top-spin or a run-through shot to manipulate the white on to the other side of table.
Greetings Sir! I really find your tutorials wonderfull and helpful! Also I would like to suggest that why dont you also dedicate one vedio to your ownself? I am sure by seeing your magnificent play at this age, many viewers like me would be wondering about your conection/history with Snooker!
hello sir, i find your tuts very helpful and wonderful you explain each and every thing in a very detailed way which is why by following your tuts i am now able to improve my game bit by bit and i am so happy that there are people like you helping beginners like us and i dont have words to thank you when today i made my very fist 50 break it felt great and this is all because of your amazing tutorials keep doing the great work ! you are great snooker coach and the kyren wilson is a good player because he have a great coach like you.
thank you Barry its all because of your detailed tutorials i am able to learn so much from just these videos i cant imagine how it would be like to learn from you in a real environment you are an excellent coach keep up the good work
Thanks to this difficult exercise i make now a lot of 50+ breaks, for me the best exercise to improve breakbuilding, here you can see if u have a good cue ball controll or not and improve also potting with using side,'great video thanks
malik. You are right to say that this is a difficult practise but one that will enhance your cue ball control and therefore improve your ability to build big breaks. I am really pleased to hear that it is helping you and that your 50 + breaks are becoming more common. Well done.
I started plying about 4 to 5 months ago and my game was almost zero. But after seeing your tutorials and many other videos of professional players helped me alot. Now my game is improved. But i cant still break more then 15 scores.
Hello sir the low angle of camera is very good to know how you put and where u hit the cue, so I'm very plz to see ur previous lesson with low angle 📷 specially spin, pull back and stone, thanks
Can anyone tell me when Ronnie O'Sullivan is playing next. Unlimited respect to Mr Stark for these awesome videos, keep doing what youre doing Sir!!!!!
Awesome tutorial and the camera work showing where you were striking the cue ball was brilliant. I need some help with getting back spin on the cue ball, more often than not I end up causing the cue ball to become air born, also wondering if it is because I have a 9ft table and only 2" balls, if the size of balls make a difference. Thank you!
No wonder Kyren wilson improved so much the last years,he has the best coach😊,it has been very close the last 2 years but he defenitely will be a world champion in the next years to come
malik. I have witnessed the annoyance and frustration as Kyren has failed to complete a task, or routine that I have set for him, or indeed that he sets for himself. Equally I have witnessed the joy and pleasure that is on his face as he reaches the target that has been set. He has even rung me late at night to tell me that he has achieved what he set out to do in that days practise, its little things like that that show the lads in built determination.
@@BarryStarkSnookerCoach i really was hoping that he would won the WCh,such an example and great ambassadeur for the game and very humble guy,but played very great and i am sure he is even going to be stronger next season
Michael. Terry Griffiths once said that to me, but the truth is that I didn't start taking snooker seriously until I was in my forties, by that time he was about ready to retire.
AliReza. I once saw Ding doing this routine using all fifteen reds, his cue ball control was immaculate. You are right it is very difficult but a very worthwhile practise, even if you are not immediately successful you will learn a lot from the efforts.
It is difficult but in the beginning it is better not to be disapointed when you miss a shot, just always keep doing it and you will fast improve, this is the beauty of this game, you can always improve
I have watched all of your videos and greatly enjoyed learning how to hit the cue ball a whole lot better, and I am thankful for the help. I use cannot figure out how to aim at the object ball. I have tried visualization of a ghost ball, using the parallel lines through the object ball and cue ball to determine which points need to contact to make the shot. I just cannot seem to consistently visually get the correct line the cue ball needs to take in order to pot the object ball. Would you be so kind to do a video on how to aim and improve potting results. I'm hopping there is something more than practice a lot. Note that I am currently only striking the cue ball on center, and I'm relatively good at hitting a straight ball. I practice my cueing by stroking through the center of the cue ball to the center of an object ball, and if the cue ball does not roll left or right after the object ball is hit it means I sent the cue ball where I wanted it to go. When it comes to playing the angles, I have a lot of trouble striking the object ball in the right spot. I love your videos and teachings and would love to move up my game by potting the balls more consistently. Then I could start adding left or right spin to help me position the cue ball for my next shot. Peace be with you.
Some Guy. I have often said that on straight shots most well coordinated players aim correctly but when they play the shot they miss. The most prevalent reason for this miss is poor cue delivery, not bad aiming. Now lets look at an angle shot, if you assess the angle correctly but deliver the cue even slightly inconsistently you will get inconsistent results. The margins of error at snooker are deceptively small and you must keep examining your cue action to improve. I will try to review this aspect in video form at some stage, in the mean time please work on that cue action.
Mr. Barry Stark, I was gob-smacked to actual get a reply from you. I TRULY feel honoured that you took some time to reply, and I thank you very much indeed. I will continue working at delivering the cue ball down the line I choose. I hope to get some advice on choosing the correct line. I have searched and watch days or weeks worth of videos trying to find some clues on selecting the aiming line better. Generally, I know after a foot or two of cue ball travel whether the cue ball is on my selected line, and at about three feet of travel if I'm thick, thin, or close to potting the object ball. My problem is the thicks and thins over power the number of I'm going to be close at potting the ball. I do hope to get better... until then, practice - practice - practice... Peace be with you.
Barry, further to my last message.... I have gone and purchased my own pool and snooker cues. This has helped in me striking a straight ball. I have practiced quite a bit with the new cues using my practice of striking an object ball with the cue ball without having the cue ball move left or right without much if any movement. My game has improved. I still cannot hit the object ball well if there is an angle involved. What I am hoping for in the 'Where to aim and how to set your sights at the correct point to aim at' video would show and tell visual clues to find the point to aim at.
Barry Stark Snooker Coach... The continuing saga of Some Guy... Barry you are right as can be!!! My cueing action sucks! I got some video of me and my cueing action which showed a multitude of issues. 1. my lower arm was/is not vertical, allowing the cue to go through an arc on the horizontal plane. Darn hard to hit a straight cue ball when the cue is circling in for the strike. 2. Usually just after striking the ball my right arm holding the cue would get jerked to the left. 3. I wasn't striking the centre of que ball, thus imparting some spin. I'm writing this "blog of mine", here so that others having fustration might learn from others. All I have said here is in Barry's first set of videos. Anybody who wants to improve should go over the first videos and do what Barry teaches. I thought I was queuing well, until the videos of me showed otherwise. Now with some tweaks my straight in potting percentage is up. I still need to tweak more and practice lots. Thanks a bunch for coming on line and helping all! Peace be with you.
The continuing saga of Some Guy (part 2)... Getting ones eye sight checked is also helpful. It turns out I have some astigmatism and when I tilt my head left and right the tip of the que appears to be moving across the face of the que ball slightly. Having a properly shaped tip help too. I have a rounded my pool que to the circumference of a Canadian dime, and my right spin that I always seemed to pass onto the que ball has diminished quite a bit. Be aware of the table that is being used. The table I was practicing on was about as level as a used car salesman. Finding all out about all of the above, my potting percentage is rising. Peace be with everyone.
Sir thanks for everything its been helpful watching your coaching videos. However, my only concern is wether I shall watch the videos uploaded by order or is it fine choosing videos randomly based on my needs ? (Im a beginner)
Rashid. It doesn't really matter in what order you watch them. However, as a beginner I would recommend you pay particular attention to where and how you hold the cue and the position of the bridge. Good luck.
Hello Barry, First of all I want to mention that your videos are the best as far as snooker coaching is concerned and they have helped me improving my game. So thank you for that. I just had one general question about daily play. I play on a daily basis but why does it happen that one day I play very good, my cuing is very sweet, it's straight more than 90% times and I make a consistent 30-40 breaks on almost every visit to the table. But I don't know what happens the very next day. I become a completely different person. I play very bad, my cuing gets very hard, it's not even straight, as a result I miss sitters and there is no point I make a break of even 15. It's not something that is with me only. I have seen the similar situation a lot of co-players. No idea why does it happen and is there anything that can be done to get rid of this situation? Regards
Yogesh. We are all trying to find that panacea, that elusive element that gives us the consistency to emulate the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan or Mark Selby. What I do know is that if you are inconsistent then there are variables in your cue action. Please work on a pre-shot routine, one that you are comfortable with and is effective. When you are playing well and cueing nicely that is the time to stop and think. players break down because they don't know how they do what they do, they just do it. I believe a player needs to know exactly how he does what he does, how he stands , how he grips the cue etc. When he knows that, he also knows what to do when it goes wrong.
Barry Stark Snooker Coach . Thank you for your valuable suggestions. I will apply and follow things that you have mentioned and will revert in case I m faced with new questions. Thanks and regards
Hello Barry, Your video is awesome and very helpful to me. Would you mind share with us some practise plan when we go to the snooker club? I am very addicted to snooker and really want to improve my skills, but i only can play snooker 2 - 3 days a week and 2hours per day because I am a full time employee. Just want to know that what i should plan to practise during such 2 hours table time :)
Smile. Earning a living gets in the way doesn't it, it did with me years ago as well. Just get on a table on your own as often as you can and hit balls. Spend a few moments each session examining your cueing on the baulk line, please don't ignore this, it is extremely important. Spread the balls around the table, set yourself a target, trying to beat it each time. Have a look at my videos for useful routines and watch good players on TV or otherwise, then try to develop your own expertise from what you see. Remember the game is about repetition so try to replicate what you see, good luck.
Good afternoon from VietNam I’m a beginner in snooker for 1-2 weeks so far your advices and teachings has been helpful to me a lot. And as I’ve seen in my progress, my skills in most of aspect improve a lot within short time, however, there’s an issue that prevents me from going further is that mentality causing the negative emotion that I fear I might miss the shot or miscalculate the play and thus my hands shake making the technique go wrong. By far I haven’t found any solution, could you give me some advice for this ?
Minh. I am sure that you really are expecting too much of yourself at this early stage. By your own admission you are a beginner who has only been playing for around two weeks. You will not learn this game overnight, it takes time, it is quite natural for muscles to have a little tremor in them when placed in positions that are a little strange to them. Please do not worry about missing, it is part of the learning process, just keep taking every opportunity you can to get in the right cueing position and get that cue action grooved. Even if you are not hitting balls the fact that you are practicing the cue action will help your muscles to adapt to the new positions and everything will start to become more natural. Please be patient.
@@BarryStarkSnookerCoach thank you for your advice sir, now I know which is core issue and need to work on that, wish you have good day and stay safe in this pandemic outburst from Vietnam 🇻🇳
Hello Sir.. i have been playing from 6,7 years and after watching your videos i ve noticed that my only problem is nice and relax cue delivery.. i mean i dont have a pause before the shot.. i tried alot but wnever i pause and strike my cue gets off line.. normally i can make a break of 40-50.. how do i practice for getting that nice and smooth cueing and the pause just before striking..??
Umair. Try slowing the final backswing down, this may help, and given a little time and patience it should develop into a nice and consistent transition between the cue going back and then forward.
hey barry, when i first bought my cue i never checked what the tip size was could you please tell me how i can find out what size tips i need to buy? thanks in advance :)
drunk. Without measuring the cue I don't think I can be of much help, but if the cue is a snooker cue I would be surprised if it is more than 10mm in diameter, if you are in doubt you could always buy a 11mm tip and trim it down after fitting.
Hello barry . Im from malaysia . I am 20 years old . My maximum break only 30 . Im start playing snooker at my age 17 . Could you please help me what routine should i do ?
General. Very difficult without seeing you play. But may I suggest you study my videos on where and how to hold the cue, then examine your cueing, all the time trying to work out how to position the cue ball to make the next shot as easy as you possibly can. The line up routine is just as good as any other routine to learn control, playing with top spin, stun and screw to manoeuvre the cue ball will teach you an awful lot. Good luck.
I have played cue sports for past four years ans still continue to look for ways to improve my cueing. I am not completely confident on my stroke and knew something somewhere is off and could not find out what. I have watched several coaching videos and have developed a fairly decent shot routine with pause before the final stroke. Does right hand players slightly move left when they approach the shot so they fall in line? I have these technical questions that weigh on my mind and never really made a break over 20.
AJ. If you have been playing for 4 years and your highest break is still only around the twenty mark then I am sorry but there is something wrong with your technique. May I suggest you put yourself on video and study it, compare it with my video on the basics paying particular attention to where you place your bridge hand and where and how you hold the cue. Keeping that cue parallel with the table and getting through the ball is one of the fundamentals and is often overlooked. Most players miss, not because they aim incorrectly but because they deliver the cue incorrectly.
@thomas. Yes it is a very exacting practise, may I suggest you start with 5 reds, then seven and build up your skill level from there. Please bear in mind that the top cushion and control of the cue ball off it is a very important aspect in break building.
Wei-Ting. You are right it is very difficult but if you start with a few reds then build the amount up it can teach you an awful lot about cue ball control.
barry i play all the routines no problem 80s 90s the odd ton+ as soon as i play a frame with somebody my game turns to pure rubbish, i don't expect an answer because there probably isn't one just thought i let you know.
I had the same problem. You are good at solo practice but as you don't play frame with others often you are not used to that.Just start playing frames with players better than you.Playing with an advanced player will make you focus and concentrate more on the shots.Dont think that you must have to win the frame.think that you're in the process of learning and just focus on playing good shots.
The Beast has answered the question for me, I would only add, try to learn from them, note what shots they play and try to emulate them later when you get on a table on your own.
Hello Sir I really found all these tutorials very helpful Sir I have problem in doing deep screw , can you make video on this and also on how to find potting spot on object ball in another way except that you have done in your previous videos Can I get your address Thanks
(Reply from channel administrator) Many thanks for your comment. Barry is currently away in Poland offering his support to Kyren Wilson at the World Games invitation event in Poland 24th - 30th July. He sends his apologies, and will be back answering questions on the channel as soon as time permits. Thank you for your support.
Cavan. Many players play cut shots with side, e.g. cutting to the left they use right hand side, cutting to the right they use left hand side. Some players call this helping side. generally it allows the player to hit the object ball slightly thicker kicking it one way or the other. Because the player is hitting the object ball slightly thicker he feels he can manoeuvre the cue ball a little easier. If the side is causing you a problem on these shots its time to examine your technique. I show how to do this in one of my videos by looking down on the cue ball to determine centre ball and then check straight cueing along the baulk line.
hi barry , barry I need to ask you, does it effect my snooker gaming if I play normal pool (8 ball) and play snooker together , I felt that it does but I need to hear it from you.
I would not like to play pool and then immediately go and play snooker, or vice versa. However if there is a reasonable period of respite between the games and a period where I could practise the alternate game, I don't see it as a major problem.
Matthew. If you mean warm up and down then very much so, I will even go as far as to say it applies to adults as well. Athletes warm up and stretch, why not snooker players, it will reduce a lot of physical problems later.
Bangash. There is a big difference between practise and a game and then again a match. But keep doing it in practise and you give yourself the best chance of repeating it in a game.
L Follzz At my age I'm lucky I can still bend over the table, I have a back problem preventing me from getting right down. Too many sporting injuries over the years.
Thank you, Barry. You pot with such ease! I wish I could too.

Maybe because its in my head that i am doing something against my normal pre shot routine..
Umair. Try slowing the final backswing down, this may help, and given a little time and patience it should develop into a nice and consistent transition between the cue going back and then forward.
hey barry, when i first bought my cue i never checked what the tip size was could you please tell me how i can find out what size tips i need to buy? thanks in advance :)
drunk. Without measuring the cue I don't think I can be of much help, but if the cue is a snooker cue I would be surprised if it is more than 10mm in diameter, if you are in doubt you could always buy a 11mm tip and trim it down after fitting.
thanks very much @barry stark snooker coach
Most players miss, not because they aim incorrectly but because they deliver the cue incorrectly.
u r great sir
Hello Sir, what I say is :i have a table snooker nr 10, my question is,..if all you teach us, is valable even this 10 snooker table ?
thank you Sir !
Danut. Practise on any size snooker table can be valuable but only if you are trying to do the right things.
Thank you Sir !
Thank You for vídeo
WOW ! Yes this is too advanced for me so far but who knows.
@thomas. Yes it is a very exacting practise, may I suggest you start with 5 reds, then seven and build up your skill level from there. Please bear in mind that the top cushion and control of the cue ball off it is a very important aspect in break building.
It looks very hard but I will practice that next time 😎
Barry Stark Snooker Coach thanks for the reply and the advice guys will keep pluging away
Precisely,Sir Barry
Wrong.. Always think you will win, even if you are playing a much better player.
nice
Hello Sir
I really found all these tutorials very helpful
Sir I have problem in doing deep screw , can you make video on this and also on how to find potting spot on object ball in another way except that you have done in your previous videos
Can I get your address Thanks
I'm a good snooker player. but I cannot play a normal stroke without side. how do I get more control by playing centre ball?
Barry Stark Snooker Coach thank you barry I really appreciate your help and thank you , your the best
I have seen your video on kids I was wondering if it applies to teenagers as well as 8 year olds
Matthew. If you mean warm up and down then very much so, I will even go as far as to say it applies to adults as well. Athletes warm up and stretch, why not snooker players, it will reduce a lot of physical problems later.
thank you I will keep watching
all the other 45 rivals from his age disliked this video
Hi Barry, was there ever a moment where you just realised that Kyren Wilson was going to be a professional or was it a gradual thing?
One Zombie. There are never any guarantees, you work hard and gradually the progress comes and even then there are the inevitable set backs.
I have done this practice so many times but in a deul game often i miss easiest shots.....don't know y????
Bangash. There is a big difference between practise and a game and then again a match. But keep doing it in practise and you give yourself the best chance of repeating it in a game.
Barry Stark Snooker Coach hmm pointy...
why do pros play with their chin on the cue and you dont
L Follzz May be back issues may be not.
L Follzz At my age I'm lucky I can still bend over the table, I have a back problem preventing me from getting right down. Too many sporting injuries over the years.
So... if I upload a video of me doing this (unedited of course!), will you come out of retirement for me? :)
Mega. If I did it for you I would have to do it for everyone, I would be inundated and have no time to make the videos or anything else.
Barry Stark Snooker Coach haha, I understand! Okay I won’t hold you to it then! Congrats on 100k. I hope to make it myself one day.

Just a bit out of position might have had to disturb the reds a bit on that last black
