@@catholicmomanddaughter I was. Not anymore. People are adding and mixing the Gospel with a lot of pagan things Jesus told us NOT TO do. And if you all say those people are in heaven then we are not to make pictures or STATUES of what is in heaven or under the earth.....THAT IS SCRIPTURE

In Puerto Rico, there are a couple of things that traditionally you would expect in Catholic homes. In the garden a Mary grotto. Outside de door in the door the dried palm bouquet and a crucifix next to the door. Inside the door in the top wall part, an image of st michael the archangel battling satan. Some times a holy water fountain by the door. In the dining room, an image of the Last Supper. In the living room, an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and sometimes accompanied by the Sacred Heart fo Mary, but not always. There is also a big wall cucifix in any visible part of the house. There are crucifixes in every bedroom on top of every bed. And sometimes in the master bedroom, a Mary statue with the collection of rosaries as necklaces😂. The bible is always by the mom's bedside table. Not always, but sometimes there is a small altar with images, saint statues, and candles.

St. Stanislaus... a favorite here!
The most obvious Catholic items in my home are the icons over the fireplace. I painted the wall a deep blue, and I have a large icon of Jesus and one of Mary and the Infant Jesus. It hits you in the face when you enter the room! Wish I could share a photo here.

Oh you are so adorable...thank you for sharing this...I am a convert and really had no idea about some of the things you noted...I do have a home altar though, where I pray...I have a Catholic friend who says that he wants any non-Catholic visiting his home to be made to feel very uncomfortable...he has a delightful sense of humor and I love how he has put his family's devotion to the Catholic Faith first and foremost in his home...

Those peg dolls and the crafted rosary holders are so precious! I ended up adding "May all who enter, find Christ here" over the door along with the traditional Ephiphany chalk blessing and try make sure the crosses dont look like plus signs because most of our family are not catholics and besides being asked "whats with the letters and numbers over the door?" Many times I was also told it looked like algebra once lol

I just love your arched bookshelves!!! Such a great compilation! I love your beautiful kitchen Madonna. We have a big painting of st. Michael right in our entry way. We also place our blessed palms under our beds.

Your video brought back memories of my childhood. My mother always had the crosses in each room,the dried palm and of course pictures of Jesus,Mary and Joseph. And each member of the family had their rosary. I don’t remember any holy water however but that was decades ago. I left the church as a teen but mother remained part of the church until her death. I can see not much has changed in Catholic homes. Thanks for bringing back memories of my dear mother.

What a beautiful video, thank you for sharing!! I love the rosary holders made by your children 🥰 as you enter the hall to our bedrooms a 3 foot statue of our Blessed Mother stands watching over all, adorned with her own fabric veil and flower halo. She is on a shelf and has flowers on her left and right. She is visible from the front door so when you enter you KNOW you are in a Catholic home. 😃 Over my kitchen sink I have an altar set up on the window sill, along with four other little altars sprinkled around the house. 💗

I have most of these things, (no costumes sadly-never thought of them even though my four children all attended Catholic K-8) and I never saw rosary holders before but that is an interesting idea. I also did not know about blessed chalk. Are you saying you took your chalk to get blessed? The church doesn't hand it out, right? I have a font and a beautiful crucifix at my doorway. Unfortunately, my apartment is so dry, my holy water is absorbed into the air. I could put holy water in my font daily and it would disappear. I appreciate you saying more about the items, and how you use them. I often forget they are there. My parents had a crucifix like yours, but not as pretty. I am not sure what became of it when we had to sell their home after their deaths. Thank you again for the great video.
Hi, Ann- one year our homeschool co-op asked our priest to bless a whole carton of chalk for us, and then we all took home a small bagful. Since we only use this chalk once a year, it has lasted! But we frequently take all kinds of things to church for our priests to bless- salt, candles, medals, etc. Lol- we catch the priests after daily mass, and they are always very gracious about doing this for us.. Yes- that is the hard thing about the holy water fonts; you don't want a gigantic one, but at the same time, the water can evaporate pretty quickly from a smaller one. We are still on the lookout for one that is "just right".

When children it was a very realistic sculpture in the center of the hallway going to our rooms. It was so real that it seemed to be looking at us directly every time we walked by it, so we used to run as fast as we could to our rooms! It felt as if Jesus was always checking on us! I am a single late-in-life convert, so my place is missing the kids' items. I do have a San Damiano crucifix, crystal celtic crosses, icons and a kitchen madonna as well as a small St. Benedict statue, a St. Therese suncatcher on the kitchen window and a St. Margaret of Scotland suncatcher on the dining area window. My holy water bottle was a thrift shop find, a Waterford cologne bottle for $2(!) There is an Our Lady of Grace statue on the patio and a St. Benedict medal on the front door. I don't think you mentioned candles, but I have LEDs in the interest of safety.

Loved the video. Ive never heard of the kitchen Madonna or peg dolls, but I have a Blessed Mother statue in my front yard, Crucifixes in nearly every room, Catholic books, Holy Water, Catholic art on the wall and i have a large collection of rosaries so they are displayed on my bedroom wall. Im sure there is more.

Thank you. I am just coming back to the religion. I have never heard of a kitchen. Madonna and I immediately decided I needed one. I like to cook a lot in the kitchen and it just seemed really sweet to me. I also think this would be great for kids who are going to spend the night over at a Catholic home. Neat for them to see so they don't have to ask so many questions and they could just enjoy everybody's company

I enjoyed watching your video. But one thing I found odd was that you had the chalk blessing of 20 B M C 23 on the inside of your door. It should be on the outside. Regarding the blessed palms. We in our church have the palm crosses. I’ve never hear of the Rossry holder but I think that’s a great idea. And finally the peg dolls. I think that’s a brilliant idea where do you get them or how are they made? I’m Scottish 🏴but live in England 🏴 U K
How interesting! It is more customary here to do it on the inside, but we have seen it occasionally done on the outside. The pegs are pretty popular here in the US; you can buy them from Etsy already painted, but most of ours were hand painted (either by us or through peg doll swap groups we participated in). You can buy the blank wooden pegs at places like Amazon or in craft stores. Some people even make their own! They are fun and slightly addicting to make :)

My favorite was the peg dolls. I just saw one of the Virgin Mary in our priests office as I was getting the sacrament of anointing of the sick and I loved it, but didn't ask him about it. Now I know.

Do you have any particular Catholic websites where a good, solid crucifix like the one in your video, could be found? All of the ones on most websites seem to have a very cheap look and feel to them.
We do like some we have seen online at The Catholic Company- they usually have a good selection of olive wood crosses. Hope that helps!

Yes- we recommend Fr. Mike Schmitz and his Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year programs for studying both the Bible and the Catechism. We have enjoyed both programs here. They have been so helpful!
