- I Drilled 1/2" hole threw the stock exhaust baffles. I use a 1/2" drill bit that is 16" long. And I use some tap oil so you don't burn up your drill bit. Real easy to do. If you want a little bit more sound out of your stock exhaust this is easy way to do it. Then you could always upgrade them later!!! Have fun and stay safe!!!
My2003 sportster 1200 sounds like that and I have never drilled the baffles out of the mufflers. But then again I’ve been riding the bike for 18 years so I imagine the baffles have probably blown out of the stock pipes by now. The only modification I made to my bike was take the needle out and install a .025 washer to raise needle as it was running to lean and adjust mixture screw to 2.5 turns out. That fix the lean condition exhaust has a fatter sound and the mileage is the same(60 mpg imperial gallon) as it was before and the engine runs 10° cooler now at 185°F on 90°F days. Was running about 195 Fahrenheit all the time. And I use 20 W 50 Amzoil
If you plan on doing this use a hole saw. And rejet the carb. Or have fun with blue pipes
It sounds great , so when you drill it are you actually drilling two spots one at the back of the baffle go thru that and then another hole thru the front of the baffle . There is no hole there to start with ?
MrGtopper I just drilled threw the open end of the exhaust baffle and when it went threw i left it there. I now have Rush Exhaust on it.
Did you have to rejet your carb
No I didn't have to
I did reject it after I got new pipes after awhile though.. but I didn't have to reject by drilling out the baffles.
Thank you
1 1/4" holesaw is much better sound and power.
Doing that hurt the bike by any chance
I have the same bike. Same color and everything mine is an 2007
🤣
