Is this track UNRIDEABLE? A very wet mountain bike ride in Riverhead Forest.

- I take my Specialized Levo out to Riverhead Forest for a winter mountain bike ride. The plan is to show just how capable these bikes are, however I think I bite off more than I can chew as I simply cant ride some of the tracks.
Been watching your videos and being in my 50s, I have really enjoyed your content and sense of humour. Keep them coming Lance.
Fraser
Thanks Fraser will do my best.
You deserve a medal mate!
Another great vid Lance. And it sure answered a lot of questions 😂
Is Lance a good rider? Answer No. Is that what you meant?
Best Day Ever MTB haha that wasn’t one of them!
Your content is sick
Good to see it's drying out nicely
Maybe some whine from your bike but it is still less than the one you tested a while back. Would this be a good time to tell you if you dont spin the wheels fast enough your tyres cant clear. Lets face it you had one hell of a lot of fun and another great vid you have produced
I know what you mean about wheel speed. Did a DH race many years ago in Hunua. Was slow so ended up dragging the bike down the track as neither wheel would go round.
great video lance
Schwalbe Eddy Current E bike tyres are top rate for this sort of mud. They are more like Motocross tyre, they have the rolling efficiency of a house brick but they have the most traction and grip I've had.
Certainly tire choice was an issue. I do like a fast rolling tire normally. Was down in Rotorua on weekend and track conditions were perfect.
Lance they are finished at summerhill they made both sides really nice
And it is pretty dry
Did Mojo and Beef Tub today and they are running swweet 👍
Keen to check that out. Thanks again.
@@bestdayevermtb2 no problem
you should ride Barrell run at woodhill
We keep talking about it. I did the old one years ago but am nervous these days. Keep watching we may get there.
A couple of weeks ago it was pretty good, I agree no good now. Im just back from Rotovegas, 100km over 3 days, tracks are dry and fast :)
Been riding today in Rotorua. Mint conditions.
It's so interesting. I watch some youtubers from the UK and they ride in the mud all the time, too. Here in Colorado if you're out on the trails in the mud you are public enemy number one!
The reality is, this is actually a motor bike area principally. Just recently the motor bikes had an event here in the rain. Can you imagine what the tracks look like after that? Mountain bikes by comparison do little damage. Also like the UK if you only rode when the tracks were dry you would only ride in summer.
We do have some bike parks that close if it is really wet to protect the machine built flow trails.
You should try dropping your seat down a little bit when climbing up the super steep stuff.
It seems counter intuitive as you would never do it on a normal bike but it works a treat
Funny you should say that as Brent and me did a climbing test between the Levo and the Rail and he said the same thing. Will give it a try.
@@bestdayevermtb2 ive got a rocky mountain powerplay altitude which has 425mm chainstays.
If i have my seat up high i find its harder to balance , i spin up more and can't keep the front down.
It would be cool to see some challenging hill climbs in the dry with your ebike mates. Im sure there would be lots of laughs and banter
…except on the zerode you don’t need a new drivetrain lol
Great video Lance. As a riverhead local I love how you use all the bog tracks, that will keep most riders away. Thanks. I rode 4 bridge's out sergeant rd yesterday it was not to bad.
My choice of tracks was not great but I genuinely thought I would just blast up the hill. I rode my Zerode the week before and it was wet but so much better.
Dedicated to your art Lance - I'd've pulled the pin and legged it
Had me chuckling seeing you squiggle your way up the hill. Impressive power though!
Thanks David
How many motors have you been through so far :-). ?
On number 3 now.
Any concerns about destroying tracks riding them in that condition? Are there regular working bees / trail builders up there at all?
I know what you mean but not really an issue in Riverhead. Working bees do occur and I have helped on those. The forest is principally a motor cross area so those tracks I couldn't ride up are chewed up by motor bikes, likewise those deep puddles are created by motor bikes. So mountain bikes have minimal effect on these tracks. Saying that we are still grateful to get to use the forest.
Best Day Ever MTB Sweet as mate. I’m just a grumpy bugger in regards to that haha. Always frustrates me after a race or long weekends with hordes of people and shit weather and tracks get absolutely munted here. But as I said before, I’m a grinch
Brings back memories from last weekend :-) have a look at the vid :-) keen to get there for another mudfest before the summer 😁🙃😃
Just checked you video. You guys did well in the wet.
I bet her in doors was happy with the washing. Haha
Sadly she won't clean any of my bike stuff. Took nearly as long to clean the bike and gear as the ride was. Can be fun to ride in the mud but I do like a ride where the bike stays clean.
Very impressed just shows you E Moutain bike can still go further then people realize
Glad you are impressed. I thought I made a bit of a mess of it all.
Certainly need to choose your trails through there in winter! Though I did a fire road loop in there the other day after all the rain, and still ended up covered in mud from some of the low/flat spots! Also I think its a bit of a misnomer about pine needles = grip, its true sometimes, but other times they just slide on top the clay!
Very true. My plan was to show the climbing ability of the e bike but I chose the wrong tracks.
the one month of the year we need proper mud tyres , wet scream or shorty and slightly narrower say from 2.6 to 2.5 to cut through better
You are correct. Sadly I had used my tires on the road during level 4 and taken the sharp edges off. I do like a shorty in the wet
@@bestdayevermtb2 assegai is my favorite I find the shortys slide on roots alot
@@connorwilsonbikes111 I think you are right but the shorty is good in the mud. I currently have an assegai on the bike just a bit worn.
trying to figure out when this was filmed
Was a couple of weeks ago.
How are finding the Sram brakes on your expert? My rear has had to be bled many times to get a good bite... Very close to chucking them for something else...
I have been very pleased with them. Didn't like them when the bike was new but they seemed to bed in and have had no problems since. Have always been a shimano brake fan but the codes have worked out ok.
Rather pay the money and ride Woodhill in the winter! Haha. Nice effort.
I have been riding Woodhill also but of course it got closed under level 3.
Today im so happy i just got a brand new narco fluid 2 and shes a beautiful gal im a little sore after riding oropi for 5 hours 💀😂
Sweet bike and
Wow huge ride
Nice job
Nice
Is it good?
5 hours sounds like a good session. Can't beat new bike day.

Great Video Lance, thanks! I'm interested in what boost levels worked best in those conditions.
ps. If you wanted a gearbox e-bike, The Aus Rohloff distributor has put one in a Levo:

Struggling on the old mobility scooter looked a great place to ride tho
That looks like no fun!
I have had better rides. The e bike certainly makes it more fun than a normal bike.
Best Day Ever MTB good effort. I tried the west coast riders club trails. Slow going.
