if the dead had been a straight up bunch of blues rockers, they'd have been the best at that too. this tune is and always has been a roof ripper and barn burner. long live Jerry and long live the Pig
Totally. That wrenching sound as he tears into that muscular solo is something I've never heard him repeat any time since, and that foggy, howling Strat tone is unbelievable.
In the Phil. 🇵🇭Juan De La Cruz Band(one of the best bands in the 70's) revived the songs Bigboss Man mid 70's it's nice to hear sound! RIP Joe''Pepe"Smith (Juan De La Cruz Band Member) ✌️🙏
yes those were the days my friend, pigpen Walen on the harp or keys for hours at a time it was not uncommon to go to a dead show at night and come out from it and the sun was coming up
I'm in the hospital with an inflamed panccress and they gave me lorazepam and now I feel okay and the grateful dead is paving the golden road to unlimited devotion.
Tend to agree. Actually in my estimation no one in the Dead could sing anything well: Bluegrass, blues, rockabilly whatever. Harp is OK here. Guitars are good . All in IMHO :)
Earth Fan actually, he’s right about the harp playing here. It’s fine for the Dead but if you want to hear real blues harp, try Little Walter, or Junior Wells, or Sonny Boy Williamson, or Sonny Terry or James Cotton or Paul Butterfield or Charlie Musselwhite or Slim Harpo, etc., etc. instead of calling him a jerk, try educating yourself.
Pigpen wasn't born in the delta. To Bloomfield's point, yes Pigpen wasn't a dyed in the wool black blues singer, but for a white guy from the West Coast he wasn't bad either.
@@lesmillett6144 Bullshit. They are good, but don't slag on the Pig please. I play harp and have for forty years, the Pig was fine, and I like his vocals too. Some may be better technically, but no one cares if you have great technique but no feel or musical sense. I am a total Little Walter fan, but he's a different player. Same with James Cotton. Why are people so convinced that the people they like are the "Best"? That is a stupid thing to say. Why don't you educate YOUSELF, who are you to decide? Realize that you don't decide what or who is "best ". Have you ever made any music, or created anything?

If you guys didn't realize, the lyrics of the Grateful Dead versions are slightly altered from the original Jimmy Reed version.
Love Jerry's guitar on this. Can't get enough.
