I had the extreme pleasure of seeing them in ‘79 in Cleveland. I even got to meet them all and get my album signed backstage. The thing that stands out the most in my memory, other than the glorious music, is the rattling of the empty seats. It was in a huge auditorium, and they had those old style seats like a baseball park; metal with wooden backs and folding wooden seats, joined together in rows. When JD would hit those low notes and hold them, you would hear all of the empty seats rattling. It’s funny the things your mind retains.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the one and only -- JD Sumner AND The Stamps Quartet!
*The bass in JD's voice is amazing.

I have heard J.D. sing this at my parents concerts thru out Texas, I miss those days. JD asked me and my siblings to a challenge one time 😂😂🥴 in my parents home. I was only 8 years old 😂 at the time. Fly high J.D., you and daddy can go fishing now. ❤🧡

How lucky you were! I’m jealous. My thoughts go to your father and, of course, Mr. Sumner.

JD is a brilliant bass singer. Unfortunately he hasn't got a musical voice like George Younc. George was (for me) The best bass singer ever.

    Hello from England
ELVIS died 2 days before my 12th birthday. I have been a FAN ever since.
Watching a lot of videos about ELVIS and his " backstory" they make me think so much more about the years that have "flown by" OH MY
    BUT
There are some of the videos that i have found hard to watch - you will know the ones i mean and i just CRY BUCKETS and out come the KLEENEX TISSUES. I know it's silly even after 44 years
Then we come on to JD and The Stamps Quartet and again i am CRYING BUCKETS. What was it about these guys. Well for me THEY HAD IT ALL and "HOW GREAT THOU ART" IS SO POWERFUL and the WORDS and it was JUST PURE UNADULTERATED RAW PASSION AND EMOTION when i hear them singing
I don't know when this show was but it must have been sometime in the late 1980's?

@@caseyb4425 remember, John Lennon is famous for "Imagine", a song about a Worldwide Communist Dictatorship (no borders, no religion, etc.). So it's totally feasible that the real John Lennon would have strong contempt for heartfelt, worshipful music like this. Especially music beyond his abilities.
