The reason people hate the show is because their "choppy animation" is just bad, bad timing, not interesting poses.
You guys should check out moongirl and devil dinosaur, that show nails choppy animation to perfection

Actually it's because it's very disrespectful and it is filled with stereotypes.

In the end Charlie Brown doesn't feel choppy & Spiderverse doesn't feel choppy because of the execution. The way Netflix is doing it feel *Cheap*

Having a 'choppy' look can work depending on how well it's executed, as you showed with "South Park" and its paper doll aesthetic. I haven't seen this "Good Times" reboot yet, but the animation in the trailer looks bad because it just looks awkward and unfinished, like the clip of those agents carrying that box.

the animation more like the animatic

It's not bad. They can just tone it down a bit.

I think it depends on how the final product looks. "Choppy animation" is sort of a gamble, and it can look really good, stylised, and artistic, but if done wrong, it can look cheap and bad. And I personally think in this case it looks quite bad. The characters and artstyle already look bad and boring and choppy animation adds to this negative feeling

I think the main difference between this “Good Times” reboot and something like The Dragon Prince is that in the letter the movements and poses are still clear, there’s inbetweens that still give you clear direction of motion. With this new show, it’s just overly snappy that it can confuse the eyes and brain when watching the scene.

The art is beautiful and I love the animation. They probably should have called it something other than Good Times. I like how it looks different than most adult animation that tries to look Seth MacFarlane-esque.

Why did you show clips from Happiness is a Warm Blanket Charlie Brown? That was made in 2011 and Bill Melendez had nothing to do with that. Also, the animation was pretty fluid in that special.

Kipo and the age of Wonder beasts was also a very choppy Netflix show but soms other comments mentioned that choppy animation is a gamble that depends on timing and styles. Kipo,BTSV, and The Last Wish all had choppy animation in common as well as their beautiful color schemes, awesome shading+rendering and wide ranges of motion that imo made the choppiness so enjoyable to watch

Another thing i just realized; Spider verse works because of its action. Southpark docent take it self serious, so the animation style fits the attitude. In spiderverse, less frames means faster movements. And it matches for a story about spider people flipping all over the place. Though it docent mean its choppy everywhere, in slow moments its more meticulous and heavy on composition, and even then when Miles starts to be more spiderman-like his frames increase. Its a deliberate thematic sighn of his growth and instincts tuning in. This type of choppy matches the thematic elements too, but also complements the action

Style for story-telling =/= Style for budgeting
Low frame rate animation can exist but it needs to aid the story-telling, it can't be evenly spaced everywhere or else it stops being a style and more an obvious corner cut that we can see. And the trick is to cut corners where we CAN'T see, see? Cut the budget, keep the illusion, much like early Nintendo did when developing the first Mario game (the bushes and the clouds are the same asset... Also the music integration was ingenious for it's time) to how movies made practical effects before blue screens with nothing but props and perspective.
Adult animation, kids animation.. None of it is an excuse for poor quality. Not just animation but character design and the story being told. Stuff like South Park depends on their scripts and over-the-top absurdist humor. They are the equivalent of kid-adults critiquing through satire real serious world topics with the grace and view of children going NYEH NYEH NYEH NYEH to cut through the egg shells and political daintiness.. and it works with the style!!!
Not saying choppy is bad, just that not all choppy is good choppy and ya gotta be selective for what you need it. Variety is the spice of life and it shows in plane sight.

a good story can save bad animation, while good animation can't save a bad story.

Yeah man it’s like they forgotten the Spiderverse movies exist
    What gives? 😂😂😂😂
I mean other stuff like animatics can be choppy as well because they are animated storyboards

I love choppy animation but a show or movie shouldn't be judged on its animation quality especially if it's working within the parameters of its budget. But regarding Dragon Prince??? Uhhh... that's awful choppy animation. It's clearly CGI and they clearly removed frames to make it "look" 2D but that doesn't and probably never will work. So it ends up just looking janky.

Animation is fine imo. I love when animators mix things up with the actual animation and do something different. Whatever the reason may be. It's part of why animation is so appealing to me. That said, Good Times is an odd choice for this type of reboot. It feels like a completely different show, and some Netflix executive said, "We'll greenlight you if you let stamp the Good Times IP over it."

Choppy animation is my fav style and I’m really mad at netflix for 1: ruining the dragon prince’s unique (and awesome) animation style, and 2: ruining the name of choppy animation with this load of B… C. BC.

The animation is just a cherry on the top of this shows shit sundae. If it DIDNT have the offensive stereotypes, or the gall to run itself under the “good times” brand, THEN you could defend the shows animation from haters. As it is, the animation is as ugly as every other aspect of it.

The choppy animation doesn't seem artistically driven it just seems really lazy. It looks like a newgrounds cartoon.
