Love this recipe. Have literally eaten salad (I know, you frown on Ranch as a salad dressing) for breakfast several times in the past couple weeks because of this recipe. And totally funny….worked at Gianni’s Pizza in Monterey CA for a couple years in high school (1985-87). Someone turned me on to Ranch as pizza dipping sauce in the late 1980’s…have been eating pizza with Ranch for what, 37 years!!
Brillant as always ! 😉🙋 If possible we would love to see more sauces from you, like different sauces for burgers, sauces for saldes, sauces for fries, sauces for steaks, and grills... THAT WILL BE AMAZING ! Thanks a lot 😉
Finally a fresh take on ranch. The bottled or the packets no good and don’t have the right punch. I agree with younes do more please. You do great job. Oh did the home made horse radish sauce it was amazing with the rib roast.
About 20 years my friends & family were putting buttermilk ranch on their plate of: spaghetti, chicken wings and strips, pizza, meatballs, subs, tuna salad, 7 layer salad, fresh veggies, tacos, nachos, Coney dogs, Italian sausages, baked potatoes. I thought it awful untill I tried it out for myself. I was actually good especially on the spaghetti and baked potatoes, in place of sour cream on tacos. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day.
I don't hate ranch dressing in fact if it's the only available dip at a party I'll have it but I will say there are others that are better for dips, dressings, etc. Italian, Bleu Cheese, Honey Mustard (the best kind of mustard), Caesar (which was actually invented in Mexico by a guy named Caesar), Balsamic so lots of options for me. But would definitely try this.
Hey bud love you channel love your food great content, you definitely deserve more subscribers but I think maybe you should change it up from smoked food all the time not everyone knows you can make most of the food on here without the smoker part. Worth a shot
I'd love to do more of those. For now, go check out this turkey stock video that we put together around Thanksgiving time awhile back. Thanks! www.atbbq.com/thesauce/turkey-stock-scratch/
Chef Tom! I love both your buttermilk ranch and blue cheese dressings! What modifications would you make, to make the dressing a dip? It’s too thin/watery (but perfect as a dressing!)
Shane Hammill sure! There is always a link to a written recipe in each video description. But here’s a shortcut: www.atbbq.com/thesauce/make-buttermilk-ranch-dressing/
Oh no! I fixed the link here: www.atbbq.com/thesauce/make-buttermilk-ranch-dressing/ You may have to click “show more” in the video description. Thanks!
Keith Wagner I’d slice em up and dip em in the ranch! Haha. Seriously though, if you want them incorporated, you’d need to reduce the liquid (buttermilk and/or sour cream), otherwise you’ll just end up with soup!
So today I tried to make a beer batter dill pickle cheese bacon loaf of bread in my cast iron pot. I thought it was done. Looked fan-fucking-tastic. Till I cut in and seen a lot of raw flour dough. Tasted fucki g great except for the inside not working. Tried to save in the oven and it just didn’t work. I think that’s right up your alley. Beer batter dill cheese bacon bread then made into grilled cheese sandwiches with some tomato bisque
I am a firm believer that "real" mayonnaise should be yellow in color (how does Helman's get their real version white?) but I've never had an occasion that required a quantity that I feel would be worth the mess/waste. This might just be the excuse I need to finally pull that trigger. Just an aside here, does anybody know if mayo and or ranch dressing can be frozen and survive the process? If it can, that would give me another reason to make this mess in quantity.
Finite Tuning I often make just one cup from scratch at a time. Whisking by hand in a bowl is the cleanest, immersion blender isn’t too bad on clean up either. I suspect both ranch and mayo would freeze fine, but separate when thawed.
THANK YOU I am so sick of the recipes that show dry herbs and even ranch dressing from a bag, I had to watch about 20 of them before I got to yours. OMGosh, why even bother to make it from scratch, if you are going to add the chemicals from the premade powder, right? Blah. Thank you so much and I am def. sharing :)
Why would you recommend store bought mayo when we are making a salad dressing? Home made mayo is like 50 times better and takes 5mins to make with the same stuff you already had out. Next time I guess
You get far enough down the line on any recipe and Eventually something in the recipe is “store bought” not everyone has time to make home made mayo from scratch on top of making the homemade ranch on top of making the actual dish. It’s actually crazy you don’t use store bought maybe your time isn’t worth the couple bucks for mayo? That’s the funny part about life, you get to decide that. Either way I’m sure the difference isn’t very noticeable. And you save much more time getting store bought. :)
The idea is to make amazing salad dressing, you don't start with canola oil and "356,278,389" food flavoured chemicals. No it wont be the same, ones made from egg, vinegar and olive oil, the other is made from thickner, canola oil and chemicals, that dont even have the same consistency.@@jayp1736
No, I mean that I don’t expect you not to! I don’t mind it. I was kicking myself at the end of the video because I forgot to mention it earlier! Also, I love Sriracha drizzled on pizza. Sometimes Buffalo sauce. And sometimes a little honey on the crust.

@Geoffrey I ate there many times back in the day. I was stationed at Ft Ord from 85 to 88. Good times and great food!
Keep up the good work! You never disappoint and I found this video to be your funniest yet!

I like how we get a glimpse at the real Chef Tom and his opinions in this video.
Great looking recipe!
Thanks for watching!
I'm from Alberta, Canada and ranch was a way of life there lol we put it on everything. Great recipe

Hey yo, this is my favorite ranch dressing recipe, and I've been following Chef John since the Obama administration. You do great work man!
I love ranch with pizza!
Yum Yum! I’ve tried a few ranch recipes, but this one is by far the best. Thanks so much for doing the video!
Really glad you enjoyed this one! New vids every Tuesday and Friday, hope you will join us.

1:04, You say to use Duke's if you're in the South, but I've never even seen it at the store. Most people in Louisiana tend to use Blue Plate.
EdwardThimbleHands, we have Dukes in Florida, but Hellman’s is the market leader.:)
Good to know. My buddy Eric Gephart with Kamado Joe lives in North Carolina and swears by Dukes.
Dude!!! You know that LA is its OWN South!
Barry Munkasy That's why we live here. 😁
Barry Munkasy
Nobody in Virginia uses Duke’s
I make this ranch on a weekly basis now. So delicious! 🤤
Yes!!! Thank you 🙏🏻
In high school they offered tater tots if you didn’t like what they were serving that day. I had tater tots and ranch almost daily.
Ranch Garlic chicken Parm pizza. Yum
Well produced videos, always enjoy.
looks good yes I will try it soon thanks

Nick Cutler I agree! Thanks for watching!
Mix ranch and balsamic, not in the bottle, but on the salad. It's a winner too
Yummy nice texture, just right..Thanks
Looks great Tom , Have to make that. My wife loves some Ranch dressing.
I like Ranch on my salad. But I do very light on it. Like a thin drizzle
You are awesome! I’m gonna make your recipe! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos man..great job
I eat ranch dressing on spaghetti and I've done it for years. I started out eating thousand Island on spaghetti in grade school
You do you! 👊 You should try this Ranch on your Spaghetti! 🍝
@allthingsbbq where did Chef Tom get his knife?
Phil Jones wondering the same..
have you done a smoked hot sauce?
Hey bud love you channel love your food great content, you definitely deserve more subscribers but I think maybe you should change it up from smoked food all the time not everyone knows you can make most of the food on here without the smoker part. Worth a shot
No words Chef Tom haha. Chef Tom makes me a better dad. Tom I judge restaurants based on their ranch. Recipe is fire, I’m subscribed
Thanks for watching!
love to see a steak pizza with this dressing lol!!
Come to Ventura County, CA and try Toppers Pizza and their famous Ranch! Everyone in this freakin town loves the ranch lol 😂
Yes! We need that trip!
Oh, the airplane in the shot. I'm a 25-year sound mixer so I listen for these things. Uggh!
I kept waiting on the smoked wings to show up to the party but I digress... :)
How long does it keep being that it’s fresh? As long as the date that the milk would last? Do the herbs go before that?
Yes, it'll deteriorate faster than store bough processed stuff. I'd say 1-2 weeks is safe. Thanks!
-Tom
How long does this last in a house refrigerator?
Great video -as always. Maybe a side of steakhouse potatoes romanoff in the future?
How long does it last in the freg
Should this be refrigerated for awhile so it sets??
When are we going to get stock be it veggie, beef, chicken...
I'd love to do more of those. For now, go check out this turkey stock video that we put together around Thanksgiving time awhile back. Thanks!

Hello Alan, here's a turkey stock video - www.atbbq.com/thesauce/turkey-stock-scratch/.
Who the hell hates ranch? Never met such a person
Chef Tom! I love both your buttermilk ranch and blue cheese dressings! What modifications would you make, to make the dressing a dip? It’s too thin/watery (but perfect as a dressing!)
I would assume less or no buttermilk would work!
Add sourcream
The website says this only lasts a week. Is that true?
Chef Tom will get a deduction of 1 cool star for dissing on my pizza and ranch! This leaves him with 8.5 cool stars out of 10!
Kevin B 😂🤷♂️
I actually do like ranch with pizza. I was kicking myself because I forgot to mention it earlier. Haha.
@@tperiodjackson BASIC TOM! 😂
What is the shelf life for this in the refrigerator of course?
It has a bunch of fresh stuff in it so you'd be safe within a week.
@@allthingsbbq Thanks for the timely response!
Yo FYI ranch dressing is the only salad dressing sincerely everyone here in Texas!
AdamPaulStone 😂🤘
It’s not a Texas thing lmao
@@gobirds2083 🙃
I would like to know what is in the smoker.?:)
Jason Bean I wanna say that’s next Friday’s video. 🤐🐔
I'm sure it's just props for the channel
Would kewpie work?
Don Drewlio ooo. I’ve never tried kewpie in buttermilk ranch, but now I want to!
I have a question. If I bottle this up, how long will it last in the fridge?
*It's crazy how a few years back Ranch dressing use to be a regional thing.*
When and what region 🤔?
Sounds like a good recipe but I rather used dehydrated or powder herbs and spices because it can turn on you using fresh in the fridge... just saying.
For those who don't speak english, please include a written recipe (or at least the ingredients) in video description. Thanks.

Lol hickory smoked salt. I can see someone throwing a block of Himalayan salt on a grill and “smoking” it.
would like to have a printable recipe if possible

What if you don’t have sour cream?
How would you incorporate cucumbers?
Keith Wagner I’d slice em up and dip em in the ranch! Haha. Seriously though, if you want them incorporated, you’d need to reduce the liquid (buttermilk and/or sour cream), otherwise you’ll just end up with soup!
do it like tzatziki .. grate the cucumber, squeeze out the water... stir in.
Salad frosting
I prefer creme fraiche in place of sour cream ..and maybe some smoked paprika
I found Randy Marsh!
Solid moves!
@@dirtybaystrangler who is randy marsh?
The ending 😂😂😂
Cracked black pepper is not optional.
Seeing this also makes me think of tzatziki which in turn makes me think of Shawarma. We would love to see Chef Tom’s version of a Shawarma soon ;)
Good idea
We'll pass this along!
Yummy!!
So what is your dressing for a salad chef Tom? Lol
I don’t have any more words.
Thanks I will have to try it looks good, but I am not putting ranch on pizza

Make your own mayo or use avocado mayo... all others have seed oils in them
Why does everybody put dill in ranch? I just do not see that.
This ranch is the shizznit
How about Salmon?
I was just planning out a new Salmon recipe today. Great minds...
-Tom
Hey try a boiled hot dog , finished in the oven on a bun with ranch dressing. You will never go back.
My son is saying you have to do ranch on pizza!!
crudites ... yes ... salad ... no? So it must be the greens????
Barry Munkasy I’m not saying it’s logical. Haha. We all have our quirks.
Ah the ketchup of the new millennia...so good.
Salisbury steak!!

Is there a Chicken Cordon Bleu video?!

I like ranch on my wagyu filet mignon.
Real ranch dressing uses dried ingredients not fresh, doing so usually mean more flavor and intenser aromatics.
