When you eat fish ‘n’ Chip in the open air out of the box, you eat them with your fingers rather than the itty bitty wooden fork they supply. It tastes better with fingers, lol.
The best fish and chips in the UK are your first fish and chips in the UK.I've eaten them all over the country for the last 50 years and they looked pretty perfect to me.If there's fishing boats and seagulls not far from the chippy you're onto a winner.Glad you loved them so much it's my favorite meal along with a full English breakfast.Take care.

Great video and in the Barbican too , I was stationed at the Royal Navy Hospital back in the 70s Sadly it no longer exists as a hospital. As for eating out get yourself a SPORK carry it on a key ring or keep in your rucksack. Its a combination fork &spoon all in one, can buy from camping/ outdoor type of shops.
One of the best hospitals we lost. I was patient on a2 from May 76 fir a few months. My mate was on ward below and he was given a beer a day to help recovery.
Best fish and chips are usually eaten outside and usually on the coast, they just seem to taste better with the sea air. I’m English and I’ve got a few favourites, there’s a few favourites I have but they are in the North of England one is in Whitby North Yorkshire the other is a place called Coleman’s at South Shields on the North East coast
@JordanJourneys, Down here in Australia in our Fish & Chip Shops (Chippies) is that you would Never Ever get Mushy Peas with your Fish & Chip Orders at any Chippie Shop anywhere here from places of any Towns &/or Cities all over Australia at all but the only thing you can only get is Tartare Sauce and also Vinegar and also a Slice of Lemon as well too & beside that (NOT) Only we have both Grilled Fish & Battered Fish but also these is Crumbed Fish that you can also have with your Chips & the Crumbed Fish Fillets is covered in Bread Crumbs instead of Batter of course.
@JordanJourneys, Also, I forgot to mention to you that you can get Crumbed Fish in New Zealand at any of their very own Fish & Chip Shops (Chippies) as well too of course. If you do come down here to either Australia &/or New Zealand, then you should try out the Crumbed Fish food products as well too of both countries of course.
Fun video! Thank you! Did you get to see the American flag down on Plymouth docks? Seeing as this was posted several months ago, it's too late to give suggestions, but the next time you're in the UK, and you like the fish, I highly recommend trying the plaice and / or the skate.
The best places for fish and chips in the UK are on the coast, no question. But if you're in London I recommend The Seashell in Lisson Grove, just round the corner from Marylebone Station and a few minutes walk from Abbey Road studios. It's not the cheapest you'll find, but definitely worth the premium prices. Although there are a few honourable exceptions, London pubs are not the best places to try them for the first time.
It's very rare that you get a decent disposable fork from a takeaway chippy. Depending what's being eaten, people tend to use their hands. I always keep a couple of decent forks in my car for such situations. Been really enjoying watching videos of ppl reacting to proper fish and chips for the first time and you're reaction seems to be standard 👍 great to see. Now I'm absolutely starving.... and i know EXACTLY what I'm gonna get to eat lol
They wont try it if you are watching them so get your back to a wall and keep your eyes on them. I've eaten pizza with a crowd of seagulls stood in front of me waiting for the crusts
Most chip shops use proper cooking fat, it's only some chip shops that use vegetable oil. So that's probably why your chips at home don't taste like the ones you get over here as the cooking medium is different.
Harry Heywood's in Linthwaite, Huddersfield are the best fish and chips I've had. Interesting fact, it's owned by gorgeous George off the movie Snatch 👌
Please, try to stop eating and talking at the same time. Sorry, I was brought up to chew with my mouth closed, not to talk with a mouthful of food and a variety of other meal based etiquette. Also, North Yorkshire = Fish and Chip royalty. Even as a Scarborian, I'll admit, Whitby has got that perfected. (If you've heard of Scampi, Whitby Scampi is like God tier level...even if they are a bit odd and Vampiric in nature....the locals, not the Scampi)
This video made me hungry even though I just had a big breakfast. Never heard of "mushy peas" before though. Looks like vomit but so does the Dutch pea soup and that stuff is really good 👌
Wow that's so expensive for such a small portion and not even the real deal. Cod and chips the true meal and still available in my home town for half that price with twice as much on the plate. So sorry you came so far to try this traditional treat and then got ripped off 😡
Why do Brits deliberately mislead visitors for a laugh? "You have to use the wooden fork to eat the fish". No you don't. Instead of struggling to use the fork you can use your fingers if you prefer. And " you must have vinegar". No you don't. Only if you like vinegar. Why do we do these things? Americans can unfortunately be easily lead in these things.

Personally I'd have had cod rather than haddock - £12.50 is a bit dear - mind you I'm from the north ( and the fish is bigger here ).
That 12.50 hurt but I had to do what I had to do. I’ve heard good things about the north, where should I go to try your favorite fish n chips
@@JordanJourneys Anywhere on the Fylde coast in Lancashire or the coast of Scotland ! Expect to pay about £7.00 !
Better be good for 12 quid!! 7 quid up north in Lancashire 😁

Down here in Kent cheaper as well. Average about 8 quid for Cod.
7 quid same price as the women
Start Bay inn in Torcross (Devon) is epic for fish and chips.
