I was born in England 50 years ago; British savoury meals are some of the most blandest, especially Fish & Chips, straight out of a deep-fryer the only discernible flavour is cooking oil, how delicious can that be?.
Sorry about that, Psychic Psycho, and especially seeing as you have passionate opinions about food but I think you’ve answered the wrong comment. I didn’t write a thing about food and certainly nothing about fish and chips.
@@Angusmum I know that you didn't say anything about Fish & Chips; I posted my original comment because the topic of this video is about Americans trying Fish & Chips.
I went to Whitby for the first time last week which is shocking because I'm a 41 year old Yorkshireman. Practically lived in Scarborough and bridlington as a kid.
My childhood holiday was at Bridlington. Brings back lovely memories ❤ day's out from Yorkshire where i grew up. Hasn't changed and im 60 year's old. Glad you enjoyed it 🎉
Glad you liked it. In some ways the English seaside is like an anachronism, a bygone destination from a time (1950s) when Brits all flocked to the coast for the summer. But then commercial airlines came, and people could jet to Europe for the weekend. The whole world opened up and the seaside towns got left behind. Good to know they still bring joy in this day and age.
So refreshing to see Americans loving the English seaside resorts, I'm going to Bridlington myself for the first time in September so I really enjoyed your insights and can't wait to get there now.
It’s brill to see you enjoying Bridlington, it’s my home town I’m currently living in New Zealand. So much to do if you keep walking up the sea front you get to Sewerby hall and gardens there is more past there. The old town is brilliant you can get a taxi,Bus or walk it’s only a few miles. Old town has lots of pubs, shops galleries, antique shops. Plus the Bayle gate museum then on to the Priory Church well worth a visit!!
Bridlington is a seaside town and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is on the Holderness part (Flamborough Head to the Humber estuary) of the Yorkshire Coast by the North Sea. The town is about 28 miles (45 km) north of Hull and 34 miles (55 km) east of York. The stream called Gypsey Race flows through the town and enters the North Sea at the harbour. The Priory Church of St Mary and associated Bayle (or gate) are Grade I listed buildings on the site of an Augustinian Priory. As a sea-fishing port, the town is known for shellfish, and is the largest lobster port in Europe, with over 300 tonnes of the crustaceans landed there each year. It has been termed the "Lobster Capital of Europe".[3][4][5] Alongside manufacturing, retail and service firms, its main trade is summer tourism. It holds one of the UK's coastal weather stations. History Ancient history Archaeological evidence shows habitation of the area around the Bronze Age and Roman Britain era. The date of earliest habitation at Bridlington is unknown, but the 2.5-mile (4 km) man-made Danes Dyke at nearby Flamborough Head goes back to the Bronze Age.[6] A Roman road from York, now Woldgate, can be traced across the Yorkshire Wolds into the town. Roman coins have been found: two hoards in the harbour area, along with two Greek coins from the second century BC - suggesting the port was in use long before the Roman conquest of Britain.[7] In the fourth century AD, Count Theodosius set up signal stations on the North Yorkshire coast to warn of Saxon raids. It has been suggested that the current town was built near the site of a Roman maritime station called Gabrantovicorum.[8] In the early second-century, Ptolemy described what was possibly Bridlington Bay in his Geography as Γαβραντουικων Ευλίμενος κόλπος "Gabrantwikone bay suitable for a harbour". No sheltered ancient harbour has been found, coastal erosion will have destroyed traces of any Roman installation near the harbour. Another station at Flamborough Head is also believed to have had one - probably on Beacon Hill (now a gravel quarry) from where Filey, Scarborough Castle and the Whitby promontory can be seen. Another suggestion has been a line of signal stations stretching south round Bridlington Bay. A fort at Bridlington would have made a centre of operations for these. This counterpart to the northern chain would have guarded a huge accessible anchorage from barbarian piracy.
Bridlington looks lovely 😍 thanks for sharing your trip. I hope you enjoy your last few days over here and get settled in your new home wherever that may be ❤ good luck for the future to you and your lovely family ⭐️
A long time ago the wife and I had a day out in Brid, we had cod and chips there, and they had to cut both fish in half so they could fit on the plates, and they still overhung the plate edges.
I love how kind and complimentary you are with the places you visit and things you see. Brid is one of my favourite places to visit from Hull.. I mean - you can enjoy so much there. It has a very popular music scene with even the likes of Foo Fighters having played Bridlington.
I’m so happy you all enjoyed your day in Bridlington, I’ve not been there myself. I used to own a B&B in Brid back in the 90's. There used to be a large square in the town centre, edged by loads of wonderful small shops where you could get everything from a hair grip to a car service. In the centre of the square was the bus station where people could travel in from miles around and be straight into the town centre. The council, in their wisdom, spent an EU grant of around 10m by demolishing this square, pushing all the traders out - tearing out the heart of the town in my opinion, and in its place they built a shopping centre. The bus station was moved out of town about a mile from the seafront, at a stroke slashing the elderly daytrippers. The shopping centre didn't achieve full capacity in the 5 years I remained in Brid, probably still hasn't. We eventually sold up and moved away.
Have you been to Cheshire, north west England? Manchester and Liverpool are great cities. Also look at Chester which has an impressive cathedral. Llandudno in north Wales. Your little boy will love it there with a nice walk along the beach and pier and kiddies entertainment along the front. Very picturesque.
Good on you Americans enjoying a typical British seaside and loving traditional fish and chips lol only thing that confused me you was in arcades where every machine worked 😂😂❤
You got proper fish and chips. And added salt and vinegar! You've put me in a good mood for the morning! Oh yeah, and I was once given a boiled hamburger. No idea why they would do that but sent it back. :D
Brought back memories of being a small child and my Dad being Intent on teaching myself and my brother the art of deep sea fishing, on a very small fishing boat called the "Three Brothers", some days like being on a rough theme park ride, my brother always suffering sea sickness...great vid guy's, enjoy!

This is proper fish and chips! This is the best way to have fish and chips, seaside places have the fresh catches rather than possibly frozen fish in the inland pubs. There are fun, old fashioned (often Victorian era) things to do at seasides, including visiting the pier and amusement arcades. British people of all ages love going to the seaside - I'm glad you had a varied day in Bridlington!
I like the way you both give a walking explanation of your visit to cities, and I like the music tracks very much, could you leave me the names titles and artists singing them ,nice relaxing to listen to in the background
AHHH, beloved Bridlington. I’ve just moved from there. North and South are great, town centre not so great, but such a terrific place to live! East Coastline of Yorkshire is wonderful and some amazing towns and villages. As for F&Cs there are so many good ones in Brid.
There’s Scarborough, whitby, Filey too beautiful seaside places, at Pickering or grosmont you can ride on the North Yorkshire moors railway behind a steam locomotive passing through some beautiful countryside too
Shame you didnt make it onto Flamborough Head, but you can clearly see the cliffs from there. Order of preference for Yorkshire seaside towns Whitby, Filey, Scarborough, Saltburn, Bridlington…. But it looks like you had a fabulous day out anyway🥰
Ah this brings back memories. I used to visit Bridlington on most weekends when I was a kid. My Little old Granny had a caravan in a village called Sewerby just a few miles from Bridlington. You could probably walk there in about 20 mins (ish) I used when I was a teenager. I would suggest you visit Scarborough if you get the opportunity. You can there on the train. Glad you enjoyed visiting that little Yorkshire town.
I've lived in Bridlington for over 25 years and it was nice to see it from a visitors point of view, I think you forget what attracted in the first place until you see through another person's eyes
We used to go every year on a lads and lasses piss up in our 20s, usually in November as a few of us have b'days close together. Head over on Firday, then on Sunday we'd do Lightwater Valley on the way home.
Bridlington is a good family seaside, fun fair, pirot ship and speedboat make it great for kids. My personal favourite is Whitby though it's just up the coast from Bridlington.
Bridlington Leisure Centre has a section of the pool called the Splash Zone. It’s got water slides and a kids splash park as well as the pool. Doesn’t cost much - just the same as a normal swim. Well worth it to keep kids occupied.
I think we take for granted being within a couple hours of any beach in the UK. Growing up, a holiday to Brid, Skegness or Ingoldmels was seen as a cheap budget break and you could easily day trip the beach and amusements from anywhere. I imagine there's people in the states and Canada that have never even seen a beach because of the distances!
If you ever go back, you should really visit Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. You will love those so much more than Brid! Whitby is my fav seaside town in the whole of the UK and has some great attractions like the Whitby abbey which was apparently Dracula's castle.
Where I am in North Yorkshire, there’s an American air force NSA intelligence base (RAF Menwith Hill). They have civilian contractors who they bring over from the US. Perhaps your husband could get work & a visa through them? They also provide housing and private schooling for your kids. The area is beautiful. It’s not far from York but the closest town is Harrogate which is where i was born & raised. It’s a really beautiful place if I may say so myself. I know someone who works there so could introduce you to families

Faded glory of the quintessential UK seaside holidays of old. Most Americans only visit London, York and Edinburgh.

"Boiled bacon in Brid", what's the world coming to ? The paddys do that, along with cabbage. Aye, it is cold just now but in the summer it gets packed. Glad ya enjoyed ya stay, here in Albion.
One of the best places to get fish and chips from, I go there from time to time from manchester just to get a fish n chips (Harbour View Fish And Chips)
I go to Bridlington regular, The shops near the amusements are overpriced and the chip shop you went to is just "ok" nothing great. Brid has much better ones look on line as has a couple as almost best in UK.
Bridlington is the lobster capital of Europe. It's the home of Cooplands bakery too, better than Greggs. Wow great to see Americans going outside London. Must never buy street burgers in England from regular stalls.
You're the first Americans I've seen actually having proper fish and chips on the coast instead of a pub in london.
Agree, great to see this family enjoying a day in Bridlington
Proper fish and chips....none of that sanitised pub stuff.😀
Well done that's the proper British way to eat Fish & Chips most Americans don't do it right so 10/10 to you

This is one of my regrets about when my wife visited me in the UK.. I never took her to a real chippy. She tried it in a pub and it just isn't the same.
"Boiled bacon in Brid", what's the world coming to ? The paddys do that, along with cabbage. Aye, it is cold just now but in the summer it gets packed. Glad ya enjoyed ya stay, here in Albion.
I recommend Flamborough Head for fish and chips with a view
Glad you had a god time :)
it was great
Oh my , that brings back memories .❤
Actually, we had take away food in the for of fish and chip shops way before McDonald’s KFC and all the rest of it!
We were glad to make you welcome, come again .safe journey home.❤
You should have gone to Tenby in Wales
Being frozen to death is all part of a day at the seaside, especially in summer lol.
there are 'boiled burgers' available, my Mother used to inflict them on us, surely as some sort of punishment. they had ...'gravy' too
You should try Blackpool
For some very decent fish an chips try Winking Willys at Scarborough they are the best 👍
One of the best places to get fish and chips from, I go there from time to time from manchester just to get a fish n chips (Harbour View Fish And Chips)
You forgot the salt 😂 great video
I go to Bridlington regular, The shops near the amusements are overpriced and the chip shop you went to is just "ok" nothing great. Brid has much better ones look on line as has a couple as almost best in UK.
Bridlington is the lobster capital of Europe. It's the home of Cooplands bakery too, better than Greggs.
Wow great to see Americans going outside London.
Must never buy street burgers in England from regular stalls.
I Love Bridlington ❤️ & Whitby..
Enjoy the English Weather .
U are Now British
thank you
Bridlington is always our go to place maybe next time go on the boat rides they you might get lucky and see the dolphins
Though the fish and chips you had were a kids meal compared to some you get!
P.S...it is only a city if it has a cathedral. Sorry you're going
Not any more, just a piece of paper from the monarch will give them city status..
Croydon?
@@DermotLehane Not given city status yet, but it deserves to be.
You are welcome here any time, come back soon👍
Try Blackpool u will luv it in the daytime 😂❤
Am I the only one who's sound went off when she was eating the fish and chips
Nope mine did to so I have no idea if she enjoyed it
Yes
Bridlington is a sea side town, not a city. And it’s a fair where All the fairground rides are.
Steady on, Roper face. No need for it.
@@blackbob3358 Steady on yerself. If they are not corrected they will not learn, and learning is cool, right? As long as it is done in good faith ...
Britain has some of the best beaches in the world. They are just too cold to sit on most of the time. It is called a " fun fair".
If you want the the best F and C..then you must visit Whitby.
N.Yorkshire...the Fish Supper capital of Britain
