A very nice metal strong box "similar to the Tew chest" belonging to Captain William Kidd can be seen on a old British Pathe news clip. Search for "Pirate's Treasure (1949)" on UA-cam. A second chest with the date 1699 purportingly belonging to Capt W Kidd very brefley showes the "Skeleton Map" hidden in a secret compartment in the false bottom of the chest. The treasure hunter Richard Knight assumed the identity of the island was Hon Tre Lon aka Grand Pirate Island near Veitnam. But that's another story. 🏴☠️
I made myself a medium sized snapsac or stuff sac for when we went on shower runs in the Army. It was the envie of my comrades being so convient compared to their "school bag" backpacks.
My grandmother and mother all had big chest's . One or two of them were really intricately carved. I imagine chest's were sort of personalized in allot of cases .......got my own wooden boxes , plastic crates and tool boxs that I keep everything in for moving around from place to place easier these days. I made a couple boxes for kids lately where I painted them black made trees, birds and animals from bone and paua shell ( abalone) and like sanded it all back flat as I could after few layer's of black paint and one as just straight bone as a practice round I really want to have a go at doing a really big chest covered in bone and shell ..... thanks for more inspiration
You mentioned waterproof bags and the waterproofing process for the bamboo journal holder. I'd love to hear more about the waterproofing methods of the time, especially for textiles like the bags
Your content is one of the best in youtube about pirates
I’m not buying me a mansion when I get rich. I’m building myself a 1700s pirate ship.
Long live Captain Elvis 🍾🍺

Love The Treasure Island beginning mate. My favourite version of the book
Great videos, sea chests or seamens chests started appearing in the 1500's
Wait so you’re telling me pirates during the golden age didn’t store some Scottish octopus man’s beating heart in chests…….
New video yay
Interesting contents and good audio track, also translated into Italian
