    Federer will be "38" Years old Next month....Winning this Major or any other Major would be Surprising...His rivals are Younger than him and playing VERY well...Going to be EXTREMELY Tough for Fed to Win this Tourny...He won the Australian but that was a Few Years ago and it went down to the Wire ...Just making the Quarters at his Age is pretty impressive...Semi Finals would be Amazing

      @Rad Roman that would be completely stupid, it's a complete different situation from Tomic's one. Roger Federer is arguably the most beloved athlete in the world. Even when playing the home country favorite, he still receives the lion share of support and cheers from the fans. So, why is this case? Why is it, that Roger Federer, after 20 years of GOAT domination, remains, unquestionably, the crowd favorite, everywhere he travels?
    He's the ultimate gentleman and sportsman. Period.
    Listen to his explanation, 6:30 - 8:05, as to why he was able to take the 20th ranked player in the world, Matteo Berrettini, to the proverbial woodshed! He's essentially explaining that it wasn't entirely HIS play that caused the "beatdown", but, rather, it was the much "slower conditions" that contributed to Matteo's disappointing play.
    Roger played under the very same conditions!!! He, too, was, unable to produce his normal, reasonable number of aces. Nevertheless, he suggests that the "slower conditions" hampered Matteo's game MORE than his!*
    * Roger Federer ranks #3, all time, in career aces, behind #1, Ivo Karlovic and #2, John Isner.

    • @lsmart
      @lsmart 5 років тому

      Great point. So true. That is Roger. Unlike some other top players, he always credits his opponent's play when he is beaten, rather than saying I only lost because I did not play my best. And when he wins, he says he was happy that things just seemed to click for himself, and gives excuses for his opponent's poor play. Even after his loss at Roland Garros, he gave all the credit to Rafa, and did not utter a word about the incredible wind, which basically killed any chance he had of winning before he even started, since a lighter finesse player will be hampered by powerful winds far more than a muscular man who wins with great power that can easily cut through even the strong winds.

    • @missourimanful
      @missourimanful 5 років тому +2

      Totally agree! Pathetic or as I like to say it’s a “travesty”. If Nadal win, its only because of the extremely slow surface. Not like the old days. No more big servers at all. Just imagine what Dr. Ivo could do just in being able to hold serve almost every time. A total travesty. Glad to see there are so many other knowledgeable tennis observers responding big time here.

      Nike didn't drop Federer. The best they could offer him was $12 million per year, and Uniqlo offered him a 10-year contract worth $300 million(30 per year)
      It's a no brainer.

      @@guillezorro Nike doesn't get its biggest benefits from tennis. It's already an extremely established worldwide sports brand that really doesn't need Roger or Rafa or Novak to sell more, so it's likely that they could've paid more but it just didn't make sense to them.
      As for Uniqlo, it's an established brand in Asia but it's basically a non factor in the West. Somebody explained that they're using Roger as a gateway for market familiarity in the west. So, in a way, they're not really signing Roger to sell tennis outfits, they're using him as a poster boy for their company.

    This court is playing ridiculously slow like my basement carpet.
    140 mph serves are not even popping, it’s ridiculous.
    Surface is helping Rafa’s game the most and Rafa is moving the best out of the players left, serving the best, forehand the best, it’s just unbelievable.
    Roger needs to serve better first and foremost, that will be the key followed by the speed of his first step to the ball. It’s crunch time now.

      Even Ashleigh Barty hit around 15 aces today, Querrey around 30...i think Berrettini is to blame, not the court

      Trust me @Mark Mauk it’s the court. Even Fed admitted it in his press conference. He couldn’t believe Berretini wasn’t getting more aces on his big serve, which would mean most likely more service games held. It’s the court. I like Ash Barty a lot but let’s not compare the women to the men. If Fed himself admits the courts are very slow, what more do u need to hear?

      MrPatrickbuit True to an extent but it's not that simple. There was a backlash from the fans when the courts are at their slowest in 2012. Nobody wants 6 hour matches. Most tennis fans want variety. If I were guessing, I would bet Wimbledon overcompensated after last year because Isner and Anderson made it as far as they did. It was obviously a mistake because last year the courts were affected by unusually hot weather, not an intentional change of the surface composition. This year's surface composition has definitely been messed with.
