Excellent analysis, as usual... I didn't know who Clelin Ferrell was, until draft day, but I've been hearing about Bosa since before last season. Bosa can stop the run, rush the passer with the best, but Ferrell is the whole package, and will be for 10 years at least. I liken him to Richard Dent.

Boss & Ferrell are the best 4/3 Defensive Ends. They are both fast & strong enough to rush the passer & hold the edge at the point of attack against the run. While there are faster “speed edge rusher” prospect, many of these players are not strong & tuff enough to consistently defend against the run. Ferrell is the best choice to execute the defensive scheme that the Raider’s DC wants to implement.

Die Hard Clemson fan. I love the analysis. I think Clelin Ferrell’s attitude and what he brings to the team culture wise, is the main reason he was drafted over Josh Allen. The only Caveat I would remind raider fans of, is that Ferrel played on a line with three other draft picks. Maki g his ability to get sacks much easier. Only thing to take into consideration. I hope he becomes a pro bowler, and takes the raiders to the playoffs.

Not performing at the combine because of an injury made it a reach to draft Ferrell at four and more negative press towards the Raiders. Then the call for them to trade back, which is also ridiculous. Mayock and Gruden are experts at this. The are on the ground while critics read and follow reports. Ferrell is going to be a beast for the Raiders. With the picks they have, the UDFAs and their schedule...it should be an interesting season.

Come on, one knew who Khalil Mack was? Kiper had him top 10 a year out. Mayock just said he would take him #1. Good piece, but facts are facts. Also, Ferrell is probably a better pure tackler, but Bosa has NFL level hand work that rivals even current NFL vets, as you see in this video Ferrell needs work. I think Bosa and Williams were heads above the rest in this draft, but from Ferrell all the way to L. J. Collier there was a lot of parity, good pick, think you might regret passing on Ed Oliver, but Ferrell will be a solid leader.
Love the intro. Keep in mind, Clemson had a stacked Dline with first round picks and Brent Venables as the DC. That's an unbelievable advantage. Josh Allen dominated against the best competition and they were specifically game planning for him on D. Still had 17 sacks. I would still take Josh Allen. Same with Bosa although more talent at OSU. The draft doesn't mean anything until they play but I like Allen's or Bosa's chances better to be defensive rookie of the year.

Dude, the fact is that no player is a sure thing. We know this. How many times do these hype guys bust or just become regular guys in the league? All the fucking time. A balance of character and scheme fit are huge. Great college players won't be great in every NFL situation. "Grab the best guy available" is not the move. This guy is a 2x natl. champ and we need winners. We need that attitude. Hence why we took a bunch of Clemson guys. We are trying to build something different. Most analysts have high praise for the way we drafted. We all know that a dazzling 40 time does not an NFL superstar make.
Ferrell looks like he has a naturally bigger frame size. I think Bosa looks like he was built in a weight room and all that extra weight/power contributes to his injuries. Season ending ACL/abdomen/groin injury? Sounds like his body is carrying aorund more weight than it's meant to. There is a big difference between being a natural 6'4 265 and being 6'4 225 and putting weight on yourself.

Bosa's wingspan is 77 & 7/8 inches while Ferrell's wingspan is 82 3/8 inches, 5 inches longer than Bosa. Bosa is 6'4 while Ferrell is 6'4 & 1/2. Just from the eye test it looks to me like Ferrell has broader shoulders and wider hips. I concede that Bosa has more burst, is more nifty, and is a faster and stronger package, but he's not as naturally big. Ferrell looks like he could still gain 15-20 pounds and it wouldn't change the look of him, whereas, you pack 20 pounds on Bosa and he's gonna look like a butter ball out there.
K W no sir i think Bosa has the bigger frame. His arms are less the a half inch shorter than Joey’s. Joey is now 280 so i think Nick will naturally get to 275. Also bosa has tree trunks for legs meanwhile Ferell legs are skinny. Also Bosa having 10 3/4 inch hands will help in the pros

Come on, one knew who Khalil Mack was? Kiper had him top 10 a year out. Mayock just said he would take him #1. Good piece, but facts are facts. Also, Ferrell is probably a better pure tackler, but Bosa has NFL level hand work that rivals even current NFL vets, as you see in this video Ferrell needs work. I think Bosa and Williams were heads above the rest in this draft, but from Ferrell all the way to L. J. Collier there was a lot of parity, good pick, think you might regret passing on Ed Oliver, but Ferrell will be a solid leader.

Love the intro. Keep in mind, Clemson had a stacked Dline with first round picks and Brent Venables as the DC. That's an unbelievable advantage. Josh Allen dominated against the best competition and they were specifically game planning for him on D. Still had 17 sacks. I would still take Josh Allen. Same with Bosa although more talent at OSU. The draft doesn't mean anything until they play but I like Allen's or Bosa's chances better to be defensive rookie of the year.

u cant take Ferrell with the #4 pick. and then take 2 2nd rounders with your other first round picks? u had 3 1st round picks 1 in the top 5 and u walk away with 3 day 2 prospects? u guys think the giants messed up? maybe it works out but u cant draft whoever u want at whatever picks because u want "character" guys, u need to consider value and context. could of drafted ferrel with jacobs pick. could of had josh allen or ed oliver + ferrell + another top 10-15 prospect. it was a perfect draft to have 3 first round picks and raiders reach hard on all 3! and im all for being optimistic for your team and the nature of sport and nfl in particular is chaotic and unpredictable so good for you and I love coach Gruden. hes a legend. but the raiders choked in the 1st round of this draft. they need to get very lucky for this to workout.
Dude, the fact is that no player is a sure thing. We know this. How many times do these hype guys bust or just become regular guys in the league? All the fucking time. A balance of character and scheme fit are huge. Great college players won't be great in every NFL situation. "Grab the best guy available" is not the move. This guy is a 2x natl. champ and we need winners. We need that attitude. Hence why we took a bunch of Clemson guys. We are trying to build something different. Most analysts have high praise for the way we drafted. We all know that a dazzling 40 time does not an NFL superstar make.

Ferrell looks like he has a naturally bigger frame size. I think Bosa looks like he was built in a weight room and all that extra weight/power contributes to his injuries. Season ending ACL/abdomen/groin injury? Sounds like his body is carrying aorund more weight than it's meant to. There is a big difference between being a natural 6'4 265 and being 6'4 225 and putting weight on yourself.

@@bruhman562 Wider? I'm talking about frame size son. At the edge position you need broad shoulders and long arms to keep offensive linemen out of your pads. Bosa's wingspan is 77 & 7/8 inches while Ferrell's wingspan is 82 3/8 inches, 5 inches longer than Bosa. Bosa is 6'4 while Ferrell is 6'4 & 1/2. Just from the eye test it looks to me like Ferrell has broader shoulders and wider hips. I concede that Bosa has more burst, is more nifty, and is a faster and stronger package, but he's not as naturally big. Ferrell looks like he could still gain 15-20 pounds and it wouldn't change the look of him, whereas, you pack 20 pounds on Bosa and he's gonna look like a butter ball out there.
K W no sir i think Bosa has the bigger frame. His arms are less the a half inch shorter than Joey’s. Joey is now 280 so i think Nick will naturally get to 275. Also bosa has tree trunks for legs meanwhile Ferell legs are skinny. Also Bosa having 10 3/4 inch hands will help in the pros
Remember when Mayock raved & raved about Robert Ayers who was projected as a 2nd Rd pick but Mayock had him as a too 5 player and HELPED him get drafted in the 1st Rd....

DE hardly ever get doubled like interior players. Regardless of the players around him playing DE your 9/10 1v1 with the OT.
A lot of the plays of bosa v oklahoma, the plays and schemes were mostly to bosa oppo side, with double teams or stunt doubles.

I love Mayock & he hit an absolute grand slam last yr in the draft but he was just flat wrong to put Ferrell along Bosa. Bosa is clearly the better DE. He also made a mistake by not drafting Josh Allen too. Having said that, Ferrell is a very good player & has a bright future. I'm sure Maxx's crazy yr will only make him work just that much harder.
mayock was a total failure as a GM ... got fired and most of his draft pick are bums
