@@TimLerchGuitar As soon as this virus is totally under control, we’ll be visiting our good friends in Quilcene, out on Bainbridge Island. I’ll check your booked dates in the Seattle area and make plans to see you play in person at that time. The last time we were there (about three years ago), you and Pearl Django were playing on one of the other islands and we didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy an evening of your music. I’ll be sure to plan our trip based on your playing schedule this time! Stay well and safe and best wishes for a Merry Christmas, Tim.
Nice!! Whistling in unison with a guitar line! Fresh. 😊 Like your style, Tim. I’ve always loved singing and and playing guitar together, from when I was 14, singing Elvis songs, Heartbreak Hotel, All Shook Up and Old Shep. Now it’s Gimme a Pig Foot and a Bottle of Beer, and Frim Fram Sauce. Love it! ❤
I’m a amateur guitarist. So, when I see Tim playing the guitar I just feel bad about how terrible I am. But it’s not done yet. He sings and whistles like and angel. Besides, with this white beard he resembles Santa. That’s too much. Merry Christmas!
Nobody should feel bad for being at a different level from a pro. Learning to get as good (or bad) as you are helped you appreciate a true artist like Tim. He does make it look easy though, which it ain't!
Practice then dude , you'll get there, after 5 years of practice every day I'm starting to surprise myself when I listen back to me playing. Hang in there dude, I'm sure you're better than you think anyway
Wow Tim this is a golden performance! Something about everything just clicks and the recording came out sounding truly special. Great whistling too! perfectly on pitch
Bravissimo, good sir! What a beautiful rendition. Love the whistling! You are always a pleasure to dig and I have learned a lot from you. Love this channel.
You make that guitar sound great! I've played it, and the others you demo'ed (the 70 cutaway acoustic L5, the Wes Montgomery) I used to go over to the owner's house, he was really into Freddy Green style comping, he taught me this. The guitar in this video was the loudest by far, acoustically, of the various L5's he had.
@@TimLerchGuitar Tim, a small favor? Would you be willing to listen to my new recording of Christmas Time is Here, and give me some feedback? Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/ovn2zEQc7_c/v-deo.html
This is an absolute gem Tim! Beautiful performance, your voice and whistling really make the track - the wonderful guitar playing is something we've all just come to expect from you :-) But these parts of the performance are such a great surprise.
I literally just sold, somewhat reluctantly, a 1947 L-5N that I had owned for 10 years. What a coincidence... Great singing along with your usual playing prowess. Thanks for sharing.
Buongiorno Maestro you're great and fenomenal . The thing that drives me crazy is the whistling !! I should attend a seminar if there is one! You're are a number one dear Tim , merry Christmas to you and your family ! Ciao.

Brother 1st you're amazing with the Tele and then a master of the old acoustics as well and truth to tell I think this L5 is even better; love to hear you with a D'A or the early 16" L5. Even the modern acoustics were amazing such as that ERO. Such a pleasure to listen to you.
Well done Tim, hidden talent, what a voice! You definitely got the blues in you. I wish I could do that... Too much work to focus on chord tones and chords... Maybe someday. Stay safe !
Merry Christmas Tim! Thank you for the great music and heart you've been pouring out through out the years. It's a blessing that I came across your channel. Blessings to you Tim
How do you set your action at the 12th fret on those old acoustics to optimize the tone but at the same time keep the playability for this kind of fingerpicking blues stuff? And how far do you keep the strings from the top at the bridge ? Thanks for your advice!
@@TimLerchGuitar hi Tim, with nice action you mean a low action? Between 2 and 2.5 mm for the low and high e string ? Or do you use higher action (3 mm or above ) to get a better tone?
Thanks for all the very kind comments and encouragement. It really helps to know that I’m not just shouting into the void : )
Stunning guitar , heavenly version of one of my favourites . . I have listened to many … this is definitive ..
オールデイ。凄くて。素晴らしい。😀👍🎶演奏。Amazing!!!
Holy CRAP was I not ready for that big voice!

Beautiful and soulful playing.

I will try to make a lesson vid for this . thanks
Great Music. Thank You.
Wonderful, Tim! You had me at your guitar playing. What a treat it is to hear you sing and whistle.
Had to like, because who wouldn’t like this? Another great performance.

It’s really nice to hear two more aspects of your talent - the whistling and the singing. As always, your guitar playing is stellar. Thank you.

Thanks for the whistling. Adds yet another dimension. Beautiful!
Wonderful!
Thank you! Cheers!
I really like your singing. You should do more songs with Vocals :)
Thank you , I have a playlist on my YT channel that has some more vocal performances that you might like
Ho that is so beautiful !,, & some whistling à la Leon Redbone, you are a man of so many talents! MerryXmas , keep safe & keep posting vidéos.
Thank you! You too!

Really great sounding guitar... there's a directness to the sound that's hard to replicate. Singing and whistling not bad either.
thanks , yes it is a very special guitar.
Love this, Tim!
Best wishes for Christmas from Dortmund, Germany... looking forward to your great work in the future!
Thank you very much!
A 1947 L5N probably has a 3 digit serial number written in pencil .

Same to you!
So good.
Merry Christmas Tim, you are great!!
Thanks, you too!
Nice!
Thanks!
I have no idea if you aware of that but your whistling has very vintage vibrato :D sounds amazing!!!
I listen a lot to Louis Armstrong. Perhaps a bit has rubbed off.
Yep, that is about right.
So what's better? The Gibson L-5 acoustic or the Super 400 acoustic? And beautiful singing and playing as always!
Nice whistling dude
Thanks 😅
Your voice is beautiful. How did you learn to sing?
I've just been doin it for about 60 years,
thank you
Tim, this is the guitar that was Ted Green's correct? Sounds fantastic in your hand! I am heading to TF to pick up your Jazz blues foundation course.
No, this guitar isn't related to TG., You might be thinking of a Guild that I have that was Teds.
Holy cow Tim! All this time you've been holding that soulful voice back? Please consider doing a bit more howling on future videos too.
Great acoustic tone! What mic and what strings? Any special recording specs?
Sterling Audio Ribbon and D'Addario J16
How do you set your action at the 12th fret on those old acoustics to optimize the tone but at the same time keep the playability for this kind of fingerpicking blues stuff? And how far do you keep the strings from the top at the bridge ? Thanks for your advice!
The action on this L5 is very nice , the neck is straight with a bit of fall off above the 14th or so.
@@TimLerchGuitar hi Tim, with nice action you mean a low action? Between 2 and 2.5 mm for the low and high e string ? Or do you use higher action (3 mm or above ) to get a better tone?
I'm guessing your record collection is as good as your guitar one.
That was great. Your a show off.
Nice!
