we have got to start teaching critical thinking skills too. our system rewards people for memorizing facts. that doesn't really make you smart. the election has proven to me that America has gotten extremely stupid and it seems to be getting worse. people completely deny proven scientific facts simply because of politics and religion for example. that is not ok at all in any way. hell look what we r doing to this planet. the evidence is right in front of our eyes. but a lot of folks would rather trust what some idiot politician says. that, to me, is extremely disturbing.
It's not only education, they have 820k deficit every year. They(GOP) don't want to raise taxes, because they want to give more for Corporations & Businesses.
Yeah if we reduced the military budget by 5 percent, we could have universal healthcare and improve our schools dramatically. We're not even at war, why does half our gdp go that shit.
The US public school system is one of the best funded and poorest performing in the world. Much of this is due to a criminal union monopoly that dominates the schools. Until this is corrected, US schools will continue to deteriorate regardless of funding.

Ok you peice of trash the military keeps people from comming in and taking over disrespect the military all the people that died in a different country that never came home to keep the Nazis and Japanese from taking over this country disrespect my flag and my military in front of me and you will eat the dirt you stand on
@@bobxx6396 Hi Bob, take a look at the map ( most US citizens are unable to name the country sitting above the US or the country on the left side of Canada): where are the US enemies? Nazis and Japanese are no longer enemies (looking too many WW2 movies?) and China just takes the level of control over the Pacific that it deserves according to its size and ecenomic power. The worst enemy of the US are US citizens themselves, buying cheap crap at Walmart - imported from China and Mechico. Your puctuation - by the way - is shit, your posting is really hard to understand. You used the word "disrespect" 3 times, also listening too often to shitty gangsta rap? The US could be the happiest country in the world: spending money for education, healthcare and keeping the military as small as possible ( does the US really need 20 aircraft carriers en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_carriers_in_service where China and Russia have TWO ? together) . Instead money is spent to put weed smokers into jail, drug prices are highest in the world ( look at the insulin price) , military is more powerful than China, Russia and India together . People like you are afraid of - what, disrespecting the flag ? Don't you have other problems? Congratulations to Fox News and Alex Jones: their brainwashing was successful, people really vote against their own interests. Is it really in YOUR interest that military is getting bigger and bigger? Think about it. US military is bigger than CHina and Russia military combined. How big should it be that you can sllep well?
This is terrifying. How are they going to compete with students from other, better funded programs? How are they going to function in society when they're essentially undertrained for jobs that require a high school education? This is a clear crisis that needs immediate redress by someone with authority, but in our present society I doubt any true change will come.
They aren't going to compete, regardless of funding. Many developing nations have much better schools than the US for a fraction of the cost. The US has one of the most expensive and poorest performing school systems in the developed world, mainly because of a successful criminal public school monopoly. Until this is addressed, US schools will continue to deteriorate.
"Funding" is a strawman argument, since most of it is siphoned off to pay for do-nothing bureaucrats and their perks and pensions. That's why property taxes and school budgets always go up, but the quality of education always declines.
Your right this is extremely stupid but please believe other schools all over this country are fucking our kids over in a major way most of them can't even tell time on a regular clock it's very sad
xaroxero You being paranoid. State with good and popular university or school - like California or Texas - the average people barely can have common knowledge and most don’t go to university anyway - which I don’t blame because is so expensive.
DrCruel the reason US education is so lacking is the complete disrespect towards teachers and education in general. Your teachers are undertrained, underfunded, underpaid. Any country where teachers have to work more than 1 jobs or pay for class supplies does not take education seriously. Every other country has a successful public school program, but Americans have too much disdain for education to even try
This is what happens when you lower taxes, give too many tax breaks, and left with no money to fund schools! This is exactly what Trump wants to do with his economic plan, which has failed in most states.
Wrong, our jobs have been take away in both our major job sectors (energy and agriculture). When jobs are lost tax dollars are lost. When you mandate health insurance that has penalties and outrageous cost, tax dollars are lost. You ain't from here obviously and don't know what we as Oklahomans are going through in the job sector and how it's affected us. During the recession in 08 we were one of the best states to be in and hardly felt it due to our energy production and export, now with climbing sales tax, health care cost and the lack of energy and agricultural exports due to over regulation is what killed us. Also if you want to talk about cutting taxes go do some homework Oklahoma has the highest sales tax in the country.
I have seen the Budget bill the Democrats have made for Oklahoma. The want to bring back the Income Tax & Corporate tax back to your state. It will generate 1.2 or 1.4 billion dollars back to your economy. But hey what do they know right? Kansas failed with this plan, Louisiana has failed with this plan. What do they know right?
I HATE this policy, but frankly, Oklahoma has one of the highest sales taxes in the US. And they tax food and other items that many states DON'T tax. Oklahomans ARE forced to go to Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Kansas in order to buy lottery tickets and easily buy liquor, though. Given the intellectual spectrum of the state's population, Oklahoma loses a hell of a lot of money there...
LMAO Oklahoma is the ONLY state where EVERY SINGLE HEALTH PROVIDER but one pulled out of the insurance system. Because you're pathetic, hopeless losers. And I was BORN and RAISED in Oklahoma, so don't even try me... you idiots dug your own pathetic grave.
budget cuts aside, 4 days a week sounds pretty awesome, the 5th day could be something more recreational, outdoors, and arts focused (obviously if money wasn't the issue), with different kinds of teachers/instructors, for families that dont want to stay home.
I wish I had 4 day school days as a kid. I think this is actually a good thing if parents have the support to take care of their kids. A lot of curriculum that I learned as a kid was useless, biased, irrelevant, and repetitive from middle school to high school.
The Mandatory work labor force will not allow 10 hour days for 4 days, because of labor laws that prohibit any work week going over 8 hours a day without Overtime pay. 4 days doesn't work for jobs that run on a 24 hour basis, or 7 day weekly basis. The US Postal Service tried this, and it didn't work as it closed off jobs to those who worked in the Plants or PDC's rather than the Carriers. Now they operate 7 days a week, with Sunday delivering over night packages needed for more revenue.
I remember 15 years ago when I was in middle school in Mustang Oklahoma . they turned off the fluorescent lights in the halls to save energy. Every kid had a flashlight
This is what happens when you vote against your own interest. I never understood why poor people vote Republican. They never cared about you ,all they care for is their bottom line. And I'm not saying Democrats are any better because they're not. But we have more options than those two ,we need to change the system so we can hear those other options in debates . GO GREEN 💚💚💚💚
There's a channel here of the Democrats of Oklahoma making their own spending budget bill. The only problem the GOP of Oklahoma see is that they need to bring back Income Taxes, and Corporate Taxes that will generate revenue of 1.2 billion. Getting them out of 820k deficit. Let's hope the GOP lawmakers vote for it.
This segment originally aired Oct. 21, 2016, on VICE News Tonight on HBO. One third of all Oklahoma school districts are now operating on a four-day schedule. Oklahoma has cut education funding per student more than any other state over the last 8 years. In the past, Oklahoma has compensated for funding cuts with oil revenue, but oil prices have declined in recent years. “Teachers have been reluctant,” principal Nathan Gray told VICE News correspondent Roberto Ferdman. “You’re now forced to cover all the curriculum, all the testing that’s required by the state, in four days.” In Oklahoma’s Noble school district, all schools are closed on Fridays to save money, one principal oversees two elementary schools to avoid hiring a second administrator, and the district superintendent also works bus duty. Gray says a four-day school week isn’t what anyone wanted, but it was the only way to cope with the cuts. “This was our best way to survive.”
The Oklahoma state legislature has NOT made cuts to common education in the last 3 years. If fact Common Education just received a 1.6 percent increase in funding compared to last year, at a little more than $2.4 billion. These local school districts made their decisions to move to 4 day school weeks before the next year’s budget was even determined. However, they continue to cite state budget cuts as a reason for 4 day school weeks.
Figures reported on the State Educations Board's website that reference cuts actually reflect figures reported by local school districts that made their own local cuts, as none have been made by the state in the last three years. These districts, such as Noble and Durant, OK are having problems generating enough local sales tax dollars and other local revenue to go along with the funds that the state provides.
I worked in Oklahoma's Public schools for 3 years. I remember helping some sophomores with their WWII history essays, they all thought Japan was a U.S. City somewhere by California. I had to leave to find a better paying job.
Make the libraries a daycare for elementary and middle schoolers. Give high schoolers volunteer hours for babysitting so they can make it an extra curricular. Use the high schoolers as tutors for the younger ones. Not a great solution but it could work.
American school system is broken in general and more funding is not gonna fix it it need major reform at this point school is only there to let parents work and not have to watch kids.
They should make the work week four days on average too. Make people work 10 hours a day to get 40 hours a week. Start at 8 finish at 6. More time for the weekend.
In Finland they work 6 hour work days. They are the happiest people on the planet. They get more done during the day and spend more time with their kids.
bajocontinuo3 because of poor light and temperature conditions? Right. They play hockey for free (lol). They are happier than anyone else and work less hours, which makes them more productive and they make the same money. They are doing much better than every other country.
Dave 5 or 6. And our part time means 40 hours a week (full time) only you get paid for part time which is usually 11.40 an hour. (min wage). Most people work 5. Like the rest of the planet.
what state? GA min gives $7.25/hr. maybe we're stuck in the 90s. most real jobs here pay $10 and up. The min wage jobs are usually for teenagers, disabled people, and those with criminal records.
As a person from oklahoma, I would like to say it has gotten worse. Some schools have gone to going to school only 3 days a week. They have longer days but are still very underfunded. Many schools can not afford books and have to find lesson plans online. While this would be a good alternative to the expensive books, there are issues. If the students are confused, there isn’t a book to look to for examples. It is difficult for parents who are trying to help. Our state is 49th in education, it is getting worse please vote on laws to improve this situation
nothing. They are just sooo damn dramatic on this shit. budget cuts suck and teachers need a raise but actually 4 day school weeks are shown to increase test scores and the school day is made longer the other days, so they aren't missing much, its a great idea
“Where at rock bottom it can’t get worse”..... 2 years later, every teacher goes on strike, it is unsuccessful, now they all quit....now where at rock bottom
Nope. 11 year olds forced to stay at home w/ brain-damaged Fetal-Alcohol-Syndrome siblings praying for the day they get knocked up by some half-uncle themselves and can get the hell away from the step-daddy who makes them do blow jobs for their mac-and-cheese dinner.... Welcome to Oklahoma. The 8 hour school day used to be a 5-day-a-week reprieve, now the kids are thrown to the wolves on day 5 as well...
Red/white It is very common for right wing politicians to not care so much about the youth, especially the children. Why? Because it is the elderly who vote, and they will vote for conservatism! No wonder the south is still doing very badly, even though they get the most federal support. By they way, do not get me wrong here, these people really do deserve the federal support.
@@dr.deathstevewilliamsou7678 They we’re actually, Mary Fallon implemented the most budget cuts. And Marty Fallin was the first governor to have 1 third of Oklahoma public schools 4 day week. And Kevin Stitf a republican hasn’t solved anything either. Also in more liberal towns such as Norman they’re school districts get more funding under left leaning governor (Breea Clark). Also how Mary Fallin was too stuck up to accept funding for the state when they got Obamacare. The Democrat before Mary Fallin were a lot better in the education department.
3 days off is perfect, 2 days off feels too short, and 4 days off makes it feel too short when you get to school because your use to break, but 3 makes the inbetween and works perfectly.
This isn't that bad , I would have loved to have gone to school only 4 days a week. I would just make the 4 schoool days longer, you save on busses, food, janitorial services, and kids have more time to be kids.
I've done some research- 4 day school weeks are actually a great thing and so stop painting it like it's bad. Schools with 4 day weeks have shown to increase teacher retention AND increase test scores and many schools offer drama, sports, recreational activities on that extra day anyway-- but school is not a babysitter- it's about education, high quality education, which can be done in 4 days (4 longer days- they make the days longer). Many countries have schools with 4 day school weeks (Germany) and have high test scores.
Great next thing to do is cut the curriculum since we have less days to teach kids. No wonder American kids have some of the lowest test scores among first world countries
As a parent, I would prefer my son was on a 4 day schedule. By 11th grade, the 4 day schedule would give him significantly more workbased learning opportunities, which I think are more important than living in fear based on the theory that his math scores on a standardized test could be slightly lower 🤦♂️
There are a lot of pluses to a 4 day work week and a 4 day School week. Quality over Quantity works best for most people. Most College Classes only meet 2 to 3 days per week ; And you learn and advance at a much faster rate in College. And we are starting to see that Employees are accomplishing more, and with less Burnout by working 4 days per week, instead of 5 days per week.
I'm a high school teacher. I support this sort of change but not the way it has been done here in this example. Four days a week is not a bad thing, and shorter school days/weeks is a good idea. However, these should be combined with a longer school years, affordable childcare services for working families, and well paid teachers. Most of the highest achieving countries who get better outcomes for their students have fewer hours in school per year than American has, but they have greater support families, teachers, and communities.
School is not supposed to be daycare for your kids. If you can't be bothered to take care of your kids, you need to check your priorities. The reality is that my family can easily function on just my income, which means that my kids are going to get homeschooled anyway. Why should my taxes go to pay for glorified daycare for other people's kids?
Funny thing is... school started as pretty much daycare and evolved... the first school was invented because parents could not look after their kids while at work and it evolved to education aswell... but the base of school and the first school idea was day care so parents can work... if they wont work and look after their kids 3 days a week the economy very may be fucked
MoJony [CITATION NEEDED] Public schools exist because decentralized education did not work in pre-industrial America. This is no longer true in the information age. The reality is that almost 40% of the population doesn't work anyway. Home schooling is a far better solution than public schools run by teacher's unions anyway.
Home schooling squeezes work into much shorter hours. I feel for the parents who can't afford childcare, but schools are not meant to be child care facilities.
USA: builds millions of bombs and missiles that cost millions each and spends trillions causing conflict in other countries Doesn't have enough money for schools HMMMMM
This is Oklahoma most states increase spending for k to 12 education and besides the federal government pays for the military and states and local government pays for k to 12 education
Education is for ALL your students, not just the more able learners. Have you done any research into how many of these students have extra coaching for the time missed? Just to keep up?
@@techhie1302 I live in Northern Europe. My comment was that America focuses on hours spent instead of the learning objectives and quality of learning. Our teaching style itself is completely different. We use the Didactic method, while America uses the Curriculum method. We also use adaptive learning programs for less able students.
well I wouldn't consider them lucky... they're enjoying the weekend sure, and maybe it would be better for a 3 day break. The problem is that they have 3 day break BECAUSE of budget cuts, and once they are down that road expect schools like that to have day end at 2 instead of 3, then having heating and cooling turned off, and eventually have it consolidated with another school with the same conditions except it being more cramped and having pretty much half of kids have deal with 1-2 hour drive to school every day.
doesnt screw anyone over long term school is completely useless with 5 years of actual learning and 7 years of learning how to make what you just learned more complicated and impossible for you to remember i cant wait to use my knowledge of the periodic table and 50 states capitals to become a police officer
Going from high school five days a week to college with four days a week being my frequent type of schedule, it was always nice having an extra day to study or relax.

who needs school anyway, send em directly to the army!
Theirs nothing wrong with serving your country, I was in the army, I got a college education from it, financial stability, a house, healthcare for me and my family and great life experience that's made me a great business manager for my business.
Thank You for making this video. The broken education system in Oklahoma has been in dire need of attention for too long. I am happy to see the issue get national attention. We need help in Oklahoma.
1) Cut down on elementary education 2) Increase diversity and breadth of courses associated with identity politics 3) Create inept generations that are unable to function without bigger and bigger governments 4) Replace equality of opportunity with equality of outcome Divide and conquer 101
Back in 2010, my school district switched to a four day school week, which it still operates on today. One way that our school went about it differently than the one shown in this video is by giving students Mondays off instead of Fridays. To make up for the lost days, we have an extended year which begins around August 4th and ends around June 2nd. We also have to go to school from 7:40 AM to 3:45 PM. Contrary to what one would assume, standardized test scores actually improved after switching to the four day school week. The money saved has also helped to drastically improve the quality of education provided. Every school got new laptop and iPad carts, as well as new art and music programs. The most notable result of the budget cut, however, was our brand new high school built in 2015. This was important because our district has only one high school which was previously one of the oldest in the state. We now have one of the newest complete with a laptop or iPad cart in every classroom as well as a renovated sports complex. People should quit criticizing the four day school week. It may seem like it is harming students by giving them less time to learn, but in the end, it produces better results and adds new technologies and programs for students to enjoy. More school systems should consider a four day school week.
If the quality of education was the best in the U.S then there wouldn't be a problem, but Oklahoma doesn't have that. It's literally all fun and games until students don't meet their education requirements.
This is Oklahoma most states increase spending for k to 12 education and besides the federal government pays for the military and states and local government pays for k to 12 education
So kids from that area who mostly believe that the world is only 6000 years old and that humans rode dinosaurs to work like in The Flintstones get less school time? Yeah, great idea. /sigh
Wow your a tolerant lefty huh. Becaus we in Oklahoma believe in God we're dumb? You leftist preach tolerance unless it's about Christianity then you just attack us. The reason schools are under funded here is the lack of jobs thanks to us (as a country) importing our oil and natural gas. Along with high taxes on livestock and farming regulations.Putting Oklahomans out of work and losing the taxes and programs it funded. We also are one of the states hit hardest by obamacare so instead of money going to schools it goes to our sky rocketing insurance and penalties brought on by that. If you don't live here you don't have an idea of what we are going through so don't pass judgements of people you don't know or a way of life you don't understand.
tjz19d Your schools are underfunded because you keep electing republicans to run the state. They lower the taxes or refuse to raise taxes when its needed, and the schools suffer. Obamacare is their weak excuse to cut schools. That hurts the insurance industry, not schools. They are lying to you. The republicans you elect do not struggle to put food on the table, and their kids get the best education possible. Your kids, however, are their prey. This is why 94% of all scientists and university professors never vote republican. That should be a wake up call. Those people are intelligent, and they know bullshit when they see it. Health insurance has nothing to do with your schools.
Health insurance has everything to do with jobs, without jobs no taxes can be paid, accumulation of tax revenue slows to a halt. You can't find something without anything. Professors and scientist as much as they like to believe they know best they don't, they push their biased beliefs on young adults who look up to them, science has been proven wrong on a number of occasions over and over again, they have manipulated data to align with political beliefs many times and this has been proven. I understand what your saying but your not looking at the whole picture your manipulating the situation to fit your theory (just like these professors). In the long run you have to have jobs and income to pay for the schools and that's a fact, Obamacare along with over regulation in the energy sector has gutted the energy industry here. We wanted the pipeline it would have made us a very wealthy state with all the production jobs and new energy businesses that would have come from it we could have rebuilt our schools and made them more efficient. Also I'm not a republican I'm an independent I think the 2 party system is what's wrecking our country, theirs bad in both parties but reverting to a broken socialistic style of government won't fix it. You have to have money to spend money and we just don't have any, it's not the republicans fault for that it's the economic hardships that rural America is facing. We were booming in the early 2000's we had an extremely low cost of living, tons of jobs, and good schools we hardly felt the 08 crash, but since then we've lost a significant amount of jobs, our infrastructure is depleting rapidly, cost of living (and taxes) have gone up to the point we have the highest sales tax in the country. It all starts with jobs and we need them bad.
JabberCT No one I know from Noble thinks that. Honestly your comment that they "mostly" think that way is super ignorant. tjz19d Mary Fallin rejected millions of $ from the federal government for Medicaid expansion, which is one reason why Obamacare is hitting us so hard. Tax cuts on businesses + oil are seriously hurting our schools, which is partially how they are funded. I agree about gas imports- the loss we faced after the low gas prices last year (from imports) lost us thousands of jobs and is one of the major reasons we had to cut education funding. The money we usually get from taxing gas companies wasn't there anymore because their profits weren't as high. In addition, they get TONS of tax cuts. Ugh. Now we have to vote on whether to raise our sales tax so we can fund our schools, because business died down and bc corporations aren't paying their share of taxes.
Batter- exactly, the problem is the funds go into a slush fund and are divied out as needed. Mary is terrible she's guilty of all kinds of abuse and irresponsible spending it's crazy. I want to vote yes on 779 but not if the funds can't go directly into the teaching programs instead of the teachers and administrators themselves. What we really need is our manufacturing and energy jobs back, we need to cut regulation in those sectors and have kick starter programs for agricultural jobs especially for small local farms. We need to build our local economies again so that the wealth can spread and stop relying on governement intervention because in the end we pay for that too, it's like paying twice every time.
as someone who used to go to school in oklahoma for most of my life it was very normal for all of my teachers to be gone & for us to have substitutes because they were out protesting for better funding, i moved to texas 2 years ago but before i moved some schools around the one i attended either completely cut fridays or they started class later & my school was deciding whether they were going to do the same, as a student who saw this happen it’s very discouraging because you kinda feel like your own state officials don’t seem to take your education seriously
I know Vice is trying to show this as a very bad thing. But honestly (for the age range most kids depicted in the video) to have more time outside school to play, explore their own hobbies, and simply be children is probably benefiting them.
And robbing them of their education at the same time. Sure any kid would love this. But thats not the point. Everyone would love all year off work, is that a good idea too? They need more and better education. Not less. America is 26th in the world in education.
xUnleadedx I agree that the education system is broken. We could have them in school 7 days a week with the current system and it wouldn't move us to top in the world.
Kids at this age, to put it bluntly, don't give a shit about school. It's things that they will do at home, in their free time, that will benefit them for high school. I remember nothing I did in my time in the classroom from that age, but I know what really helped me through the latter years, and that was doing so much reading in my free time when I was young. That's really all that helped me.
I agree with the fact that kids should have more time outside of school to explore the things they haven't, and to focus on their mental/emotional health, but the fact that the severe underfunding for education exists in that area is something that can't be accepted. Education is a right, and the government not giving priority to it, to me, is corruption. Where does all the money go?
As someone who was forced to survive the Oklahoma 'school (snort) system' BEFORE they started giving kids an extra day to do meth and get pregnant before age 17, I can say that you are a despicable, clueless, privileged idiot with no concept of the actual issue. Sit down and shut the hell up.
I dreaded going to school as a kid. I would’ve loved 4 day weeks. I spent most of my free time outside, watching PBS and going to the libraries anyway.
vanMrMann Actually evidence suggests that 4 day kids learn more, do better behaviorally, have more focus and overall excel over 5 day students. Same for 4 day work weeks like in Sweden (where they have 4 day school weeks). The way that Oklahoma got to it is the problem.
Although I may agree with this... seeing it from more leisure time and less sleep-deprived students and faculty ( a.k.a. great short-term effects), it doesn't overrule the bad. Being conformists and blind in ignorance will not solve this issue. Long-term effects of missing one day per week can affect your children in many overwhelming and unnecessary ways. - Sarah Morales
Comments like this make me sad, because young people believe that education is a duty forced upon them, when in reality it is a privilege. I personally think that education should be a right, but there are many people around the world that don't get the education that is needed, and the ones that do, like this guy, who want to make school only 4 days, don't take advantage of this privilege. Do you know how hard it is to teach the content that is necessary in only 4 days? I don't understand how people can be so inconsiderate.
+AUSTIN DERIC Wrong, libtard. America falls roughly in the middle and it has 6 of the top 10 universities in the world. World class education is available for those who want to work for it.
This is Oklahoma most states increase spending for k to 12 education and besides the federal government pays for the military and states and local government pays for k to 12 education
4 days of school should be normal! I hated when i have to go to school 5 days a week. First, if i only had to go to school 4 days a day, i'll have more time to do hwk, and i'll also have more time to pursuit my hubbies and rest well. So yea, I wish 4 day school weeks should be the new norm.
the nordic countries very short school days in elementary (3-4 hours) and the students have the best grades in the world. wouldnt be surprised if grades improve in oklahoma despite the more compacted school curriculum.
You're mixing apples and oranges here, you don't just magically create smarter generation by cutting down on studying hours. There has to be a vast fundamental gap between the curriculums taught in USA and nordic countries.
This isn't a Nordic country. This is the US where 50% of its people think the Earth is 6000 years old, think the sun revolves around the Earth, cannot even name their vice president or a single branch of government, and believe a creature from space made people from a mud puddle. The last thing they need is less education.
JabberCT Atheist nerd rage detected. Better education=/= more school and more homework. American kids have a much higher volume of school work/ home work than nordic countries but the department of education has been failing for decades (bush's no child left behind = garbage, obama's common core = garbage)
Maybe..... Legalise cannabis and all of these problems would magically go away.. But I mean, if that's too big of an issue then yeah sure, let the kids suffer!.. -.-
TheFrosty wow you call that edgy? hey bro lets legalize all drugs how about that? Fuck yea, LOVE Crack and Meth so fucking awesome. SO edgy XD love memes.
Vasting It's cute how you think you're so smart and intelligent thinking that drugs should still be illegal :) Yeah sure, let's just keep tobacco and alcohol legal and cannabis, a harmless herb, completely illegal y'know, because of logic!..
TheFrosty We get it bro, you voted for fucking bernie sanders you can stop talking since you're such an intellectual superior. I mean god, who doesn't LOVE drugs right such wow such amazing. You're still an annoying man baby. "MUH DRUGS!!!" One day you'll grow up.
Vasting I didn't vote Bernie because I'm not American, but I sure would've done and the fact that tomorrow it's left to fucking Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is testament to how bad of a shape your country is in atm. I'm not "OMG DRUGS!!11!
Thanks tax cuts This is abhorrent, I guess when property values plummet because young families with two working parents will not want to live in a place like this

It's not only education, they have 820k deficit every year. They(GOP) don't want to raise taxes, because they want to give more for Corporations & Businesses.
not when the military is so oversized
Yeah if we reduced the military budget by 5 percent, we could have universal healthcare and improve our schools dramatically. We're not even at war, why does half our gdp go that shit.
and yet you want these kids to compete in a global economy where kids from other countries outpace the US in math and science?
Imperial America we aren’t all mexicans dumbass we can be salvidorian, cuban, brazilian, or any hispanic/latino country
math and science aren't everything, we pay too little attention to humanities
The US public school system is one of the best funded and poorest performing in the world. Much of this is due to a criminal union monopoly that dominates the schools. Until this is corrected, US schools will continue to deteriorate regardless of funding.
Maryland the fucking humanities really?!

The US could be the happiest country in the world: spending money for education, healthcare and keeping the military as small as possible ( does the US really need 20 aircraft carriers
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_carriers_in_service where China and Russia have TWO ? together) . Instead money is spent to put weed smokers into jail, drug prices are highest in the world ( look at the insulin price) , military is more powerful than China, Russia and India together .
People like you are afraid of - what, disrespecting the flag ? Don't you have other problems?
Congratulations to Fox News and Alex Jones: their brainwashing was successful,
people really vote against their own interests.
Your right this is extremely stupid but please believe other schools all over this country are fucking our kids over in a major way most of them can't even tell time on a regular clock it's very sad
xaroxero
You being paranoid.
Eric C why blame Trump when all this budget cuts started when Obama was in office so don't even try to blame him dude
There always budget for military and wars but no funding for education...
Lack of education keeps us at war.

The federal government pays for military, not state governments. State governments pay for their own state's public education.
You know that states don’t pay for the military the federal government does
I wonder how these kids will do when they have to compete for college admissions against others who have had substantially more classroom hours.
budget cuts aside, 4 days a week sounds pretty awesome, the 5th day could be something more recreational, outdoors, and arts focused (obviously if money wasn't the issue), with different kinds of teachers/instructors, for families that dont want to stay home.
They don't get this "recreational day" when they enter the 40-hour/week working world dipshit

I wish I had 4 day school days as a kid. I think this is actually a good thing if parents have the support to take care of their kids. A lot of curriculum that I learned as a kid was useless, biased, irrelevant, and repetitive from middle school to high school.
what do you mean my knowledge of the 50 states capitals ancient egypt and periodic table definitely will help me become a police officer
4 days is actually better although not for that reason. everybody should have 4 day work weeks.
I was about to say the same thing! LOL
Cheers mate!
Only if the shorter quantity of education goes together with better quality.
Asatru55. agreed. my point is just that 4 day weeks are in my opinion a more healthy way to live. yes the quality would need to be there.

“You’re now forced to cover all the curriculum, all the testing that’s required by the state, in four days.”
In Oklahoma’s Noble school district, all schools are closed on Fridays to save money, one principal oversees two elementary schools to avoid hiring a second administrator, and the district superintendent also works bus duty.

Make the libraries a daycare for elementary and middle schoolers. Give high schoolers volunteer hours for babysitting so they can make it an extra curricular. Use the high schoolers as tutors for the younger ones. Not a great solution but it could work.
They don't want smarter people, y'all.
American school system is broken in general and more funding is not gonna fix it it need major reform at this point school is only there to let parents work and not have to watch kids.
This is a perfect example of why the current teacher walkout was a long time coming
They should make the work week four days on average too. Make people work 10 hours a day to get 40 hours a week. Start at 8 finish at 6. More time for the weekend.
In Finland they work 6 hour work days. They are the happiest people on the planet.
They get more done during the day and spend more time with their kids.
xUnleadedx how much days a week do yall work?

As a person from oklahoma, I would like to say it has gotten worse. Some schools have gone to going to school only 3 days a week. They have longer days but are still very underfunded. Many schools can not afford books and have to find lesson plans online. While this would be a good alternative to the expensive books, there are issues. If the students are confused, there isn’t a book to look to for examples. It is difficult for parents who are trying to help. Our state is 49th in education, it is getting worse please vote on laws to improve this situation
Well, this is depressing.
I’m sorry but what is wrong with a 13 year old babysitting their siblings?
nothing. They are just sooo damn dramatic on this shit. budget cuts suck and teachers need a raise but actually 4 day school weeks are shown to increase test scores and the school day is made longer the other days, so they aren't missing much, its a great idea

Yup, I was right. Marry Fallin a sold out governor, that doesn't care about children of her own state, but they keep on electing her.
Before Fallin we had a democratic for eight years things were no different.
Bless the family looking after other people’s kids on Fridays.
3 days off is perfect, 2 days off feels too short, and 4 days off makes it feel too short when you get to school because your use to break, but 3 makes the inbetween and works perfectly.
"Personalised attention"... He means babysitting, that's what school has turned into . Daycare
Stop comparing Oklahoma to the rest of the US
America is crazy. So much money so little social funding.
underfunding for public education, Over funding for present debates.

Problem is childcare on Fridays, nobody wants to watch their own kids.
When you want low taxes to save a couple bucks a year, and you get what you asked for. lmao
Guess lower taxes benefit only the business not the community or the future (kids).
I go to a private school that costs my parents 7000 dollars a year and we get 4 days a week
i like how these ppl are complaning about being poor with stainless steel kitchen apliances
Home schooling squeezes work into much shorter hours. I feel for the parents who can't afford childcare, but schools are not meant to be child care facilities.

I live in one of the most educated countries in the world ... and we frequently have 4 day weeks ... Time spent does not equal education.
Education is for ALL your students, not just the more able learners. Have you done any research into how many of these students have extra coaching for the time missed? Just to keep up?
@@techhie1302 I live in Northern Europe. My comment was that America focuses on hours spent instead of the learning objectives and quality of learning. Lucky bastards, wish I had a 4 day school week.
well I wouldn't consider them lucky... they're enjoying the weekend sure, and maybe it would be better for a 3 day break.

How hard is it to cut frivolous spending so you can pay teachers?
If you don't live here you don't have an idea of what we are going through so don't pass judgements of people you don't know or a way of life you don't understand.
tjz19d
Your schools are underfunded because you keep electing republicans to run the state.
Sit down and shut the hell up.
in a time when many kids won't even get recess maybe 4 school days isn t that bad
I wish it was 4 days a week I would love this ❤️
I dreaded going to school as a kid. I would’ve loved 4 day weeks. I spent most of my free time outside, watching PBS and going to the libraries anyway.
4 day school weeks are shown to increase test scores and the school day is made longer the other days, so they aren't missing much
b-but muh tax cuts
y-you're not a socialist, are you?
You actually cover news in Oklahoma.... thank you.
Subscribed.
Every school in the world should be 4 day per week.
12-14 year old spotted!
15 year old spotted^
vanMrMann Actually evidence suggests that 4 day kids learn more, do better behaviorally, have more focus and overall excel over 5 day students.

THIS is why we're protesting. #oklahomateacherswalkout
I think I would be down for 4 day school weeks if school was year round, with maybe 1-2week breaks every few months/major holidays
4 day school weeks are shown to increase test scores and teacher retention and the school day is made longer the other days
As a Oklahoman it’s pretty scary. With the walkout last things have gotten a bit better with the teachers salary’s but the kids are still suffering.
American per pupil spending is in the top 10% for all OECD countries and performance is in the bottom 10%...
Reminds me of our for profit health system. Republican dream = Student loans for 10 yr olds.
+AUSTIN DERIC Wrong, libtard. America falls roughly in the middle and it has 6 of the top 10 universities in the world. World class education is available for those who want to work for it.
Somewhere in other country like in France, kids goes to school only 4 days a week, not because of cut funding but for the kids itself .. and it works.
Ahhh America...cutting in education isnt the smartest choice haha
In the long term you pay more with cuts like These
This is Oklahoma most states increase spending for k to 12 education and besides the federal government pays for the military and states and local government pays for k to 12 education
But to get the same amount of education they would need to extend the school year a few weeks...
Well, I guess that's another excuse to move to Texas.
Stay out of Arkansas, we don’t need more Okies.
Well, looks like the library could be useful, eH?
the nordic countries very short school days in elementary (3-4 hours) and the students have the best grades in the world. wouldnt be surprised if grades improve in oklahoma despite the more compacted school curriculum.
You're mixing apples and oranges here, you don't just magically create smarter generation by cutting down on studying hours. There has to be a vast fundamental gap between the curriculums taught in USA and nordic countries.
Soda88 true, the school curriculum in US is already too much with 5 days a week. at least the kids will be happier.
Friendo
Yeah, so lets cancel school altogether. That'll smarten the kids up. Unreal. /sigh
"parents who cant afford to look after their children, arnt so enthusiastic."
....then maybe they shouldnt have had kids...? radical concept I know...
Maybe..... Legalise cannabis and all of these problems would magically go away.. But I mean, if that's too big of an issue then yeah sure, let the kids suffer!.. -.-
Vasting "drug faggots" wow, bro, that's so fucking edgy. You're so cool, can I be your friend?
Back when Oklahoma had a more agrarian economy, you had more kids staying home to do farm work.
Thanks tax cuts
This is abhorrent, I guess when property values plummet because young families with two working parents will not want to live in a place like this
so this is what happens when people who need to be taxed don't good to know
“He who opens a school,closes a prison.”
4 days a week actually sounds like a good thing
actually 4 day school weeks are shown to increase test scores and the school day is made longer the other days, so they aren't missing much
