I love Mrs. Stuart. She was my history teacher. It makes me so sad that she is going through what she is. I'm so proud of her and every teacher across the state fighting for what they and their students deserve!
I am a Spanish teacher and I've decided to pursue trucking for a year, or two in order to pay off all of my loans and THEN return to teaching. It would be livable if I can get rid of all of my debt first. Btw, my last two years of my undergraduate were completed while being homeless. And the first 4 months of my first teaching position, I was homeless living in my car. No one knew, as I always take care of myself as normal, but let me tell you how difficult it was. Grading papers in my car... It's not ALL bad, but for those of you going into it, be sure to get a good representation of the good and the bad before dedicating your life to it.
Omg this is my history teacher!! I'm so proud of her for standing up for what's right. Being a teacher is a hard job and education deserves so much more it's just so extremely important, it's also hard to be a student in Oklahoma with huge class sizes and no textbooks but hopefully we can eventually change that for the better
50 Stitches Steel Thank you for your kind and supportive words. It really does mean a lot. Most teachers know the work they do has meaning and an impact; its convincing the undereducated public that seems to be an issue...
Jeff Locke I see it first hand. My wife is a teacher and it amazes me the responisbility they lay on her with the extra time she puts in helping the ones that struggle..Thanks again
They are doing something great for there are many parents that didn't know how to support their kids in their education and this teachers don't ignore the problem they try to help with a solution. Education was never important in my house, bringing a paycheck was important and i dropped out. When my daughter started school i didn't know how to help her out but her kind teacher gave a lot of advice in a humble way. I always mention to her that she gave me the help the we needed to make good habits.
50 Stitches Steel dude, theres only 180 school days in a year. thats SIX MONTHS OFF. they only work six months out of the year and make over 40k. heres how teachers unions work, give them fifty, and next year theyll want 55. then next year they riot because the average has gone up, so now they want 60. teachers are not doing charity work. its a cakewalk job. especially now adays with steict premade curriculums. tons of holiday time, sick days, paid vacation, these teachers unions got it made in the shade.
anton eckart Yeah you do have that happening too in some places, but not everywhere..That wasnt for teachers just clocking in to get a paycheck..I have witnessed first hand my wife changing lives though..She took a kid from getting into shootouts and being a gangbanger to helping him fill out forms to colleges and turning his life around..Thats what I meant by that
+Rianne West ***If I went to school for 4 years and got a teaching degree to work 3 jobs I'd be pretty mad too.*** If someone cant get by on 60k a year(the national teacher salary) then I don't know what to say to them...FACT
4 years? Most school systems require masters degrees and now it's common to see Ph.Ds teaching in high schools. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to be a teacher.
The Taterkaze well humans do, machines no longer need teachers, big data covers them well. Humans need to transfer knowledge and that needs infrastructure and time, social cohesion needs space to develop away from the noise of commerce. Money is the best medium to buy other people's time from their life and other commitments to focus on creating impressions on the growing generations. Machines don't need all these human mess.
+doxide ***Every teacher in America should walk out. It's shameful how they're treated in this country.*** Governemnt teachers are overpaid and the yare treated with as much respect as cops, they cry every election about school funding, when their workers is even a failure, we need merit based pay...FACT
+Edward Biglang-awa ***They have to respect teachers they are the foundation that’s where they start for our workers today engineers doctors*** nope, that's trade school where you ACTUALLY learn something to use in the real world...FACT govnerment teachers are too busy teaching kids about safe spaces, diversity, multiculturalism, teaching little kids to give oral sex in their schools and our schools are fialing across the nation and these teachers expet us to reward their failures with higher pay? LMAO Fun Fact: The AVERAGE Teacher Salary is 60k a year...FACT
Edward Biglang-awa Hahahaha robots will replace 99% of all jobs. Including lawyers, docters, teachers, police.... Thank god!!! Bye bye hard earned degree. Now you just a human like me.
+MarcLloydz ***They should have walked out a long time ago, teachers deserve way more.*** the average teacher salary is paid 60k a year and with schools fialing across the nation, they deserve a pay cut, not raise...FACT We don't reward failures with higher salaries...FACT
You don't get talented people seeking out jobs in public education if its salaries can't compete with those of other industries. Underpaying educators is the primary way of bringing down the quality of education, because that's the way you fail to attract people with skill they could take elsewhere.
As someone who is still going to school in Oklahoma its true for all these teachers. I work with my English teacher at a whole foods store. Its sad how much they get paid and how much time they put into it.
Why the hell are the taxes so high in Oklahoma yet teachers are paid the lowest, when in Texas they don't have state taxes and are paid more? Why the hell can't they pay them without raising our taxes?!
I guess your economics and civics teachers didn't do a good job with you. Here's a starting point for the answer to your question: The government has no money, none, zero, zip, zilch, nada, not one single shiny new penny. To find out how and where government gets money just do a search on "where government money comes from" and study a lot.
Leicester Blackthorne You mean Oklahoma's state government? Has no money? The same one that gets money from oil, native American revenues, the lottery we passed. That government? Perhaps you would like to Google just how many billions a year go into education solely from Native American gaming revenues. Perhaps you need to do a research yourself before telling a native to Google their own state worth. Thanks for the "lesson" tho!
+grandiose pulsios ***Teachers deserve a better pay.*** Teachers are already paid an AVERAGE of 60k a year and schools are failing across the nation. FACT
Ghastly Grinner that's not the teachers fault buddy. The state sets the curriculum and determines what gets taught and how. If you don't like what has happened to education then you need understand how it works. Teachers, in general, know how to teach well. However, their impact and effectiveness has been lessened by the politicizing of education as a platform. Just read the polarized comments in this thread. Its shameful how many people think that teaching children is bad, or an "agenda."
+Jeff Locke ***that's not the teachers fault buddy. The state sets the curriculum and determines what gets taught and how.*** you basically made the case the teachers have no agency...FACT so we can replace government teachers with computers and just fire ALL govenremnt teachers and save the taxpayers monies...FACT
"you basically made the case the teachers have no agency...FACT so we can replace government teachers with computers and just fire ALL govenremnt teachers and save the taxpayers monies...FACT" Ha. You think having to follow State curriculum means a computer can do their job? You really take the cake for stupid.
+J Globletrotter ***Ha. You think having to follow State curriculum means a computer can do their job? You really take the cake for stupid.*** who said follow "state curriculum"? I LOVED reading ACTUAL history books where the civil war was over high tariffs and the right to seccesion from a tyrannical dictator, not the "civil war was over slavery" nonsense...FACT and actually, computers have many programs to learn basic reading, math, etc...the children can teach themselves, making their progress that much more better...FACT
Doubtful she makes that much money. 30K is a lot more realistic. In Lawton that is, it's not exactly the beat place in the world. Also lots of teachers easily work 10 hours daily, so it's not that much of an exaggeration.
Edgar Rios teachers should get payed more, i agree, but unions and tenure need to be abolished. Now, im sure if you took a poll on what people would rather; manage a convenience store, or be a teacher: teacher would win by a land slide
I would SURE as hell prefer the store. Dealing with whining, crying kids every day, dealing with parents complaining constantly, spending all my free time on lesson plans and all my free money ons supplies.... store it is!!!
I studied education to because I love the interacting with growing minds. However I was given a pink slip bc my school was being systematically shut down and taken over by charter school. I went into trucking and after 2 years I’m a trainer. I average over double than what I was making as a teacher. Last year I made $67 with bonuses. Life is great
Our teachers here in Oklahoma deserve better! I was a pain in the ass student and just for that they definitely deserve a raise for putting up with me for all those years back in the day! Lol!
I personally had this woman as my teacher. I find this somewhat kind of irritating and a little misleading. I agree that you can always make a claim to being warranted to receiving more pay. I will also tell you that being one of her students for several years and having multiple periods in classes, she has always gave the image of receiving hand outs. She was also the teacher to sit in her desk and allow us to work out of our books and maybe have a decent lecture once or twice a week. I will also speak on the mindset of this community and area and say the living quality is very cheap. Most residential areas in this place are very cheap when compared to any housing in the nearby states. The amount of pay that they are demanding is just simply not there. I'm not going to even brush on the fact that her family lives well out of its means compared to most of the residents around there. I will also say she is close to not even knowing what she is speaking of when making such a false claim to the pay rates in the area. The probability of finding a job that pays more then 7.25 an hour is an oddity. She is a great woman, and does care for her students. But this is high charade of what is actually going on. She had also made the claim several times of not choosing the career for the money, and had quite the amount of education. She choose the job, the job did not choose her. Her spending must only be lavish, to have issues with a low mortgage house in that area. here's the math, According to money.usnews the bottom 10 percent of teachers make 38,180 a year. Teachers days off ~ 4.5 months * 4 = 18 weeks. Compared to the average worker of 2. 52 - 16 when factoring in weeks worked compared to the average worker = 36. 31810 / 36 = 1060.55 / 5(days in a work week) = 212.11 / 8(hours in a work day) = 26.51 dollars an hour. SO the BOTTOM 10 percent of teachers make 26.51 dollars an hour for work compared to an average worker equaling ~ 53020 dollars an hour worked. www.trulia.com/real_estate/Bartlesville-Oklahoma/ The house of median value in the area only comes about to be about a 127,000. An overview of the general cost of living index for Bartlesville, OK is displayed above for your reference. Residents in Bartlesville, OK enjoy a cost of living index of 91. This index is 4% higher than the Oklahoma average, and 9% lower than the national average. (This means its 9% lower cheaper to live anywhere else then the rest of the country.) So taking the average teacher salary of Kansas. 47,464. Minus the Oklahoma state teacher average salary 44,128. =3,336 With the increase of daily live compared to each state, the increase of pay is worth nothing. I love you vice, But you need to show the other side of things.
During the three years I lived in Oklahoma (Enid), it was the WORST education I received. Buildings falling apart (Asbestos abatement), oversized classes (had to sit on the floor due to insufficient seating), teachers that didn't care, books falling apart, no air conditioning in sweltering 100 degree days.
i’m a student at bartlesville high school. i participated in the BHS walkout. this interview was an eye opener and shows that change isn’t just something that happened in the past or is happening somewhere else. change is happening NOW and ANYONE can be a part of it.
For beating kids? It’s called discipline. Something the new generations are lacking more of each year. School is one of the most important things and is what you should be focused on. Stop being a sheep and be a wolf, a leader. But if you want to take your education as a joke a be a loser your whole life then keep taking your education for granted. Such a shame to see all you young kids acting like morons. I could go on for a while on this topic and many adults could as well. But I’m not going to waste my time talking with someone who isn’t going to listen.
For someone that claims that their argument is being ignored and is attempting to be the better person, you sure were quick to resort to name-calling. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how walking out for 22 minutes is worse than more than 10 years of deception on the part of the Oklahoma legislators. I don't understand how you can put me and my fellow classmates into the box of being "sheep" and "losers who take our education as a joke." In fact, I believe quite the opposite. We are incredibly passionate, and we are willing to stand up for what we believe is right. We are willing to take opposition and ridicule in order to bring our small town into the national eye so it receives the attention is deserves and kick-starts change. Wouldn't that be considered a leadership trait? I digress, I could go on for a while on this topic and many students and adults could as well. But I'm not going to waste my time on someone who is too ignorant to listen.
wow, are there people out there who didn't know Oklahoma is shit? If you want to make money with ANY job be willing to move, she could make at least 10k more; in not 2-3x that by living in a decent state
The problem is that they shouldn't have to move to make a suitable wage. As the cost of living goes up, it seems as if salaries go down. Look at some statistics before you make ignorant comments.
My high school teacher talked about how he could move 3 hours down to texas and make double what hes making now, but didnt because nobody could take his spot. Most have moved. The ones left are the ones who care.
Ah yes, because if we took all the teachers out of Oklahoma our problems would be solved- no teachers, no schools. No schools, no education. No education, no educated kids. No educated kids, no jobs in the next decade. No jobs in the next decade, no money. No money, poverty. Poverty, people leaving the state. People leaving the state, Oklahoma is no more... Oklahoma is no more, less wind energy and natural gas. Less wind energy and natural gas, less gasoline and higher electricity bills. Less gasoline and higher electricity bills, higher prices for gas. Higher prices for gas, less cars. Less cars, less pollution... higher prices for gas, less money. Less money, more poverty. More poverty, more people moving to the UK. Oh, I forgot to mention. No education = less air force and arny members.
My mother was a teacher and raised 3 kids just fine with one job. Not to mention teachers get months off in the summer. Name any other state funded job where you get a 3 month vacation every year. I love how before they become teachers it's always "I'm not doing this for the money, I have a passion for teaching." Next thing you know they're protesting at the capital because they don't get enough money.
+Youtan Poluo ***don't get me wrong teachers deserved to be paid more but the idea that they have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet is just absurd*** no its not, its called life...FACT and these govenremnt teachers are paid 60k a year...FACT They make twice as much as middle class people do and every year I hear them whine about not being paid enough when government schools are fialing across the nation...FACT
Purchasing power were higher in the 60's . 70's and 80's and men earned relatively much which allowed women to get less and still make ends meet. You are going to have do some actual reading about economic history to understand these issues and try not to blame poor powerless people for 'stupidly' doing 2 or 3 jobs.
Put it in perspective: 42k for The teachers who works only 3/4 of the year average income in Oklahoma is 49k, Oklahoma ranks 47th in education. You want better pay then produce better results.
I’m not against this but would she have more money in her pocket if her kids didn’t do those activities as they are not only ripping a hole in her pocket but they’re putting unnecessary stress.
42k is a fine income. No one works at a convenience store for more. Teachers also have insurance and summers off. Maybe you should not spend so much instead. I am so tired of whiney Americans. People are starving in this world. All she is teaches is entitlement.
I’m an Oklahoma student and I think this is stupid. We had to had extra time to our day even though they got their raise they wanted more. And you have to understand they get many days off they get the weekends, all breaks which includes the winter, spring, and summer break which is almost 4 months. I hated the walkout it was retarded and the kids at my school here in Oklahoma think it’s stupid too.
So she makes more than half of what teachers in northern VA make while real estate prices in her area are a quarter of the price. I doubt she HAS to work an extra job to afford the necessities. Also, what convenience store is a kid working at in rural Oklahoma where they can make $40,000 per year? That's $19 per hour if the kid works 40 hours/week for 52 weeks. To make $40000 per year at the federal minimum wage, you would have to work 106 hours per week. It is really sad that teachers (I am one myself) don't get paid more, as so much of this country's progress depends on them. However, don't twist the truth to make your point.
I think teaching is being devalued because of the internet. Why do we need thousands of teachers giving lectures to 30 students at a time for 45 minutes? Some of whom, are bad and some of whom are good. The smart teachers are posting lectures and tutorials on sites like Udemy and youtube, and making multiples of what a public school teacher makes. Millions of kids can get the benefit of the best lecturers and don't waste their time. Its the way the world is heading, schools need to catch up, because the methods and content they are teaching now... the population is figuring out has nothing to do with success in the real world.
I learn more from online resources like Khan Academy and other educational UA-cam channels than I do sitting in a classroom with bad teachers and so do the majority of my peers. I'm not saying this teacher in particular is bad, but really because each teacher has varying degrees of teaching ability, this creates huge disparity in quality of education that students should be receiving. I really think the teaching profession is on its way out and as a student with so much frustration coming from bad teachers- the feeling of thinking I'm incompetent when in actuality, it's the teacher's poor delivery, I really don't mind so much. I'd rather have a teacher through a screen that I can pause and rewind and learn at my own pace than moody, disengaging teachers. Everyone should watch Sal Khan's TED Talk for more on this.
"and so do the majority of my peer" I guess your online school didn't teach what "majority" means, nor to avoid using words you do not understand. The majority of children do NOT learn better online. Online schools have plenty of failures, just because you have had a positive result doesn't mean anything. That is called anecdotal evidence. For example, I was homeschooled and became very well-educated and successful, but that doesn't mean homeschooling is perfect for everyone. Online schooling works for you, well, great, but it's ridiculous to suggest it works for everyone or even the majority. Data does not bear out that claim. For another thing, I am willing to bet your parents are involved in your education, and either one of your parents stays home with you, or you are at least 12 and able to stay home alone. Even if you are doing your work at home alone, your parents no doubt check up on you and hold you accountable. Congratulations for being so privileged as to live in such a home. Not everyone has access to parents/guardians that are that involved with their kids' educations. Should all parents/guardians be involved... absolutely. But they aren't. And I don't believe the appropriate response to that is "Screw them and their education, their parents should be more responsible." I don't believe in punishing kids and depriving them of an education because of their parent's irresponsible behavior. Teaching is only "on it's way out if you are unwise enough to believe an education is comprised of stuffing information into your head."
Miss desire Independance at first its hard setting up lessons plans and getting used to teaching, then they start to streamline it. Back in my grade school we would grade eachothers homework and tests. The teachers are asking to much of a society that doesnt value them. I have no sympathy for art or other useless teachers, as for math and english its hard to have sympathy for a person who knew what they were getting into.
I'd say coping with poor delivery is a skill in itself, partly as the receiving, understanding, and accommodating side of social skill, but I feel a decent amount of what you're saying. As for learning online, it can be good for many, but it would have been a recipe for disaster in my case. Many students including myself really benefit from the face to face interaction and the positive peer pressure only a physical environment can provide.
My wife and I live in Oklahoma. She teaches a deaf 3rd grade class in Tulsa. Her take home pay BARELY covers her student loan payments. Between time in class and time at home lesson planning, she works 70 hours a week and is only paid for the first 45.
I'm not against education, but I found most of my years in public school to be a waste of time. After about fifth grade, you top out, and then it becomes a matter of memorizing answers for tests and showing up five days a week. I never found high school to be efficient in anyway. 90 % of high school could be learned in a fraction of four years. Unless you're trying to get in a really good college, I say go ahead and drop out, and get your GED. You can wrap up High School in a matter of hours with a certificate that's virtually the same thing as a high school diploma.
I don't think I've ever accepted a job that pays minimum wage. A degree doesn't guarantee you a high paying job and anyone can tell you that. I'll never be a CEO of a huge corporation, but my overall point was a GED is just as good as a high school diploma in most cases.
A GED is actually more difficult to obtain. They made it quite a bit harder. Also if you think you can't make as much as a doctor with a GED and no college I'd like to show you to the world of the car salesmen. Or perhaps a home realtor. The jobs are out there and they are numerous. Also be nice to people who work in food sales. That's where college graduates go when they can't get a job...I remember all the ones I worked with in high school.
Students who drop out of school won't be prepared for a community or 4 year college. A person may say their not going to college but with the competition for jobs it's best to be prepared for college.
i used to go to a tiny school in oklahoma and it was so underfunded that they let us stop going to school one friday to save money to pay the teachers and pay to keep the school running (even though we had 2 gyms and they always were squeaky clean and had new floors every year)
Thank you so much Lyndsey you are an inspiration. We hear you thank you for having a voice, thank you to all teachers and people alike who brought this to light! ❤️
“I know more teachers than not that have to have second or third jobs,” teacher Lyndsey Stuart told VICE News. Watch more on America's school funding crisis HERE: bit.ly/2pL31rz
$23,000 is ok money in Europe but how much do you need to live in the US? Is the crazy health insurance part of it? Does a convenient store girl make more than 23000?
But she actually represents the mood of teachers in America so stop attacking the person and lets talk about the issue. American workers and teachers are poorly compensated for their work loads and they are always always better paid in more civilized countries. Of course the fact that you do not have critical thinking skills and want to jealously drag down others instead of improving the situation for everyone speak to the fact that American schools are in fact not managing to raise a generation of people that will be able to compete with their global peers.
Teachers are not regarded as advanced professionals because there are to many of them. They are seen as a job that students can take after study if they don't have another job. More like just above kindergarten workers.
OPERATIONS "If she chooses, to have her child be part of extracurricular activities she chooses the associated cost, as well as the cost with her life style." Really? Extracurricular activities can be the difference in being accepted at a good university and a mediocre university. They can be the difference between getting a scholarship and not getting a scholarship. They can be the difference between a potential employer deciding someone is a "go-getter" or someone is just doing the minimum to get by. It seems to me that such things are much more than just a "choice", as you put it. You would do well to think past the first level of complexity.
The trick is, just don't pay for health issues until they arise. Do your best to stay out of the hospital, that's why these bleeding heart liberals want to aggressively push a "healthy and active" lifestyle because they want you to do everything you can to prevent (good luck) sickness and shit and therefore not have to ever worry about hospital bills because eating a carrot today will save you from AIDS tomorrow
Bunch of over paid cry baby teachers. So if she worked yr round she would make 70k a yr. Teaching is basically a part time job. So sick of teachers crying all the time.
Soham Bandyopadhyay no correlation at all. the NRA is not government funded. Teachers are paid by the government. www.quora.com/Where-does-funding-for-the-National-Rifle-Association-NRA-come-from
This is so fucked up.. Teachers constantly put in extra hours at school and use their OWN money (when they aren’t even making that much) to buy supplies for their students. They never receive compensation for their OT or the supplies they bought.
G Venchy there is also a ton of people who over see the school activities who are pretty much useless that make 100k a year. If they cut the fat off there would be enough to pay teachers.
I Live in Oklahoma here's the thing WE DONT HAVE THE MONEY FOR IT we literally do not have the money in the state for it....We will have to take it from mental health and things like that
Yeah, lets just steal more of hard working peoples money. There is no self responsibility anymore. Its the new fad! People just go around blaming others for their own life.
Although, I feel that teachers en masse can go to hell for all I care, the source for pay raises should've come from lottery funds. Instead, the rest of us who had absolutely no say in the issue are now paying for it via online taxes.
+Marshal ***A well paid teacher is a happy teacher, and that means happy students, and that means... Go figure.*** teachers are well paid, they make an AVERAGE 60k a year and yet they whine for more raises well schools across the nation are failing? LMAO
$34,000 is pretty low to live on. I taught High school Physics in Dallas, TX for 3 yrs before quitting in 2016 and started with $45,000 and within a year and half got $7,000 raise. And I thought it was still small. Oklahoma and the other states need to do right by their teachers.
I'm behind this walk out, I truly wish these teachers the best of walk. Our government doesn't want to pay and give our teachers the right amount and give out less in terms of budget. All they do is point fingers but no action.
I know one teacher who moved from district to district, city to city, and state to state in the nearly 2 decades she has taught. She went back to college to earn additional degrees and was even certified to teach in Canada, but lacked the money to move there. In all that time, she never got a pay raise. It's not worth it.
The way america and economics works, if you believe you are not getting paid enough, ask for a raise, find another job, different career or unionize. The market has to adapt. as long as there are people taking the jobs at that salary, the salary will stay the same. But with that said, I believe the market should value a teacher at least double what it is now and be compensated accordingly.
If you try to unionize in this country, you get fired. If you confront your boss about how you’re being underpaid while they’re getting a ridiculous raise and a brand new car for doing approximately jack shit, you get arrested. America is so systemically corrupt that there are few avenues through which you can advocate for yourself besides trying to call attention to the issue like this teacher did. Also, who would teach the students in her state if all teachers moved to a different location or switched careers?
下佐粉ケイ Actually if they all left the state, the teachers who stayed or others who move in would be paid tremendously, because of a higher demand for teachers.
William Willis That’s B.S. and you know it. Even if schools were perpetual short-staffed, the remaining teachers wouldn’t be payed more because a lack of financial resources isn’t the only problem here! The board takes all the money for themselves because teachers are powerless to do anything about it!
You know what’s sad today my chemistry teacher said that we pay 1 million dollars a year on average to take one person to jail all of that can be used for education in just saying
My son was an Elementary School teacher. He had to work two other jobs. He worked as a school janitor in the evening and was a bike messenger on the weekends. He worked 3 jobs for 3 years without taking a single day off! I witnessed my son's health and his body deteriorate so bad, until his body couldn't take it anymore. He blew both of his knees and he is now bed-ridden. Now we're fighting for his medical insurance to cover knee replacement surgery. It's a nightmare!
Fire bad teachers and good teachers can get paid more. Apply free market principles to the teaching profession. The problem isn't pay its corrupt teacher unions that protect bad teachers.
Teachers know what they are going into and there's other times and ways to work to get changes in pay & etc. When I get a teaching job, if there's another walk out, I will not go to Capitol, I will not join a union. I will be at school or at home doing work for the students. Teachers walking out take out from teaching students who hat they need to learn.
Unions aren't a bad thing. They can and do fight for fairness in a lot of places. There are also really aggressive and greedy unions, too. But unions in a vacuum aren't a problem.
The cost of living is super cheap in Oklahoma compared to the rest of states. Yes, a teacher in California might earn &70k a year but guess what the cost of living is twice or tripe of that in Oklahoma. So I guess pay varies by various factors.
I left teaching in American public schools 3 years ago! I moved to China to teach.... and now I own my own English Language Center! I LOVE teaching! However the system pushed me away!
Probably the colleges. Just like where that lottery money went when we passed that crap. I think there is a lot of money going to places and pockets it shouldn't be.
What always happens in any State when they bring in the lottery/casinos/marijuana saying it will fund schools. They send the revenue from that to the schools and then cut an equal amount from the school's existing budgets and send it elsewhere. So when that 7.2 billion comes in, they take 7.2 billion from the other funding sources and send it elsewhere.
because its all about the children, so give me more money, full medical/dental and retirement packages where my contribution is zero. you know, for the children.
This is exactly what GA teachers need to do but the state is so divided. Some county’s/cities get great tax funding and money from state level funds. Teacher pay is very good in these areas also but in other areas teachers are poor. I taught for 12 years and made just over 55,000 and the cost of living was slowing but surly catching up to me. I left because there was no change in 9years. But if you went and got a masters in education they would give you this crazy raise around $500-$800a month. Education is all about money a power and control now in Glynn County School system!
I know a lot of people that would kill for 42,000 a year, also did u notice she was a single parent she probably gets some kind of child support as well. The bottom line is if you can't put food on the table with 42,000 dollars a year, I think she needs to stop buying herself those expensive ass clothes or get a better job
You see her husband around 5:26. Even if single, I doubt she would qualify for assistance. I teach and work in the summer. With both jobs, one at a time, I get by fine with wife and kid.
she got a second job. Also don't understand your beef with the clothing. if you are a professional you dress like a professional. and she's on TV for crying out loud are you telling me if you were going to be on tv you would wear you usual clothes? There is a good chance the tv studio picked out and bought her wardrobe for tv that is a thing that they are known to do.
also has a apple watch a mac computer w/ editing software photography equipment gymnastic classes for her kid last time I checked photography is more of hobby than a career given the fact that everyone has a camera on them, and even then people don't really pay you that much. looks to me she invested too much into the equipment and is paying back debt because of it. Also on side note, I don't want to say apple is straight up trash, but if you prefer a $1200 mac "workplace" desktop as to a $300 dell laptop that can do the same thing, than... I mean... your kinda of a idiot with a lot cash.
You guys are professional babysitters you don’t need to make that much shit there should be no schools at all parents can teach their kids to read write math etc , shit even teach them more important things like changing a tire and changing oil on a car
I worked at Fedex making $35K for a 55-60 hour work week for all 12 months of the year. These teachers complain they pull $35K for 9 months of work....What a joke. They run a daycare for young adults. I would only agree to pay them more if their graduates were able to find good paying, middle class jobs. The reality is very few come out of high school with any licenses, certificates or marketable skills. Government led education is nothing more than day care. If they don't like being paid $35k to sit at a desk, then grab a shovel and head into the coal mines!
Well, they care about their students. Do you give a damn about your customers? Besides, they put in a few extra years of schooling than we did. I am always amazed that many teachers across the country make less than I do, and I have no college degree and do not have any specialized skills, such as a tradesman.
Do you think we have a problem with the American education system? I do. There is a problem with teacher compensation. There is a real problem with students who don't want to learn. There is a problem with students graduating from public schools that don't have a marketable trade. I was from the Detroit area for most of my life. Look up the annual rate of students that don't even graduate (80%+). I hope it horrifies you. Every student that drops out is a burden to society. They will go about their lives receiving government aid and likely be incarcerated. I went to public schools (ie teenage daycare). I attended college with my own money. In the end I'm working a blue collar job that pays more than my degree. We have a problem here. College shouldn't cost what it does. Students shouldn't be graduating with $70,000 in debt to Uncle Sam. In an age of technology, we should be able to provide our students top-notch e-lectures followed up by teachers/aides who help them. Everyone says smaller class sizes, but I disagree. We need larger class sizes, better lectures, more aides and group learning. Its a mess. I don't have kids yet, but I'm home schooling them. If I win the lottery they are going to private school. Our government is a joke. Show me anything besides waging war that they are actually good at. They have a solution: Find another job or unionize.
natalie nunez New York teachers average 75k , Massachusetts average 73k a year Within surrounding states Texas averages 31k-44k depending on experience. Kansas is around 48k-49k New Mexico is 47k-48k Colorado is over 49k Arkansas is from 44k-47k And lastly Missouri averages at 47k-53k
Oh and why would that be? She is making $34k a year from teaching. The federal poverty line for a family of 3 is $24k. The median average income in the united states is $59k. So she is 40% away from poverty, and 70% away from the average income. She is WAY CLOSER TO POVERTY THAN THE AVERAGE INCOME. Of course you can find people that are way BELOW the poverty line, too. But those people almost certainly are not working in fields that require a 4-year degree, nor for employers with the resources of the government. It is egregious that someone could spend the money for an education, work for an employer which takes billions in tax money every year, and still be closer to poverty than average income.
To the people saying she should just move to a different state with higher salaries, you're insinuating it's her fault she hasn't gotten a raise in 10 years. People shouldn't have to uproot their entire lives to make a living wage. She did it right: she went to college, got a degree, and has dedicated 10 years to teaching. There is no reason she should be required to supplement her income with side jobs.
man I thought I had it rough living with a drug addicted roommate in a shitty run down apartment but she got a house a nice car a fancy computer with pets and shes complaining? I think she can cut back and live within the means of survival. maybe you dont need the fancy bracelet jennifer
The OK State Representatives that they showed looked completely incompetent and extra Wimpy. The good people of Oklahoma need to Elect some New Representatives.
Hard to have sympathy for these teachers. They make more money than most people on average do in the United States. They don't work a full year. They are protected with benefits, healthcare and pension. People work 2-3 jobs and will never have any benefits or pension. Take your kids out of expensive gymnastics classes and get a smaller house.
semen demon yes and her compensation package includes benefits and pension that is more valuable than the 10k she misses in salary. Just looking at salary doesn't tell you how much she is actually getting especially when you know how generous her pension, health care and other benefits are likely to be
What convenience store pays more than 30,000 and who cannot survive on that. I'm all for teachers and others being payed more. I raised two kids and their mother with about 25k/yr. People be spending.
No place seems to be mentioning that this strike lasted 2 weeks. (Maybe not for all schools but for mine it did) We had so many great teachers that I loved leave for different jobs or different states. And power to them but I will miss them.
She works 9 months out of the year. Works 7 hours a day teaching as stated by her. Gets full benefits and a pension when she retires. All those benefits add up. She’s making on average $27 an hour. Another example of people trying to take more money at the expense of everyone else.
Yes! People seem to forget they don't even work as much as the average American. Must be nice not working a 12 hour day and having weekends and spring break off....
Malissah B this comment is what's wrong with oklahoma and why they are leaving to surrounding states that pay appropriately. So why do all the other states seem to find teaching important and not oklahoma?
Teachers are the most important people in our lives, they teach us the most basic things. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to read, write, or speak coherently. In America, they are treated like garbage, when they should really getting much higher wages and respect.
The American federation of teachers union is a standing army of 1.7 million card-carrying members in good standing. And you think they're being treated like garbage?
That is crazy! Teachers deserve more pay! Teachers are raising our future!! Their job is so important!! The children deserve funding for supplies they need, and they deserve a building that isn't falling apart, that's safe structurally!
They don't get paid the same salarys during the summer, smart ass. They get a reduced rate around 40% of their wage paid through employment insurance that they pay into the remainder of the year.
Low pay is fine when the living cost is low. But that's no longer the case. I've seen schools where half the teachers quit and went to work in the state prison because it paid far more and there was no lesson planning to do.
Maxime Charron Husbands are making 200K plus in oil industry. They conveniently leave that part out. And thier generous benefit and retirement packages.
As a teacher, I work 60 hours a week and I'm paid for 35 hours (I'm only paid for the hours I teach during the school day, bell to bell). I'm not paid for time spent after school planning engaging, scaffolded, and rigourous lessons. I'm not paid to grade papers on the weekend. My starting salary was $36,000 with a bachelor's degree and master's degree with a specialized endorsement in ESL (only teacher at my school who is ESL certified). I was also the only qualified applicant for my job. Now, I'm going back to school part time for another master's degree ($30k out of pocket) so I can get into the next salary bracket and possibly teach at the collegiate level part time (which a few teachers at my school do). I am a university educated specialist and not many people can do what I do. If you want your children to be successful, give us the tools to make it happen.
Lillian Conway what about asking for the assistant administrators to step down. There are tons if people who are in between the principal of a school and the super attendant. Tons of people who make 100k to sign a paper otherwise doing nothing. Ask those people to leave then use their salary to get teachers higher pay. Or is it just easier to ask the government and taxes to fix it. Which it never does fix it.
Try making 12 dollars an hour full time and then have another part time job for the same, while being a part time student. That equals about 17,000 a year. Privileged white teachers with a second privileged part time job, crying. GTFOH.... 35,000 one job or 17,000 for 2 jobs... Maybe the teachers are living a privileged life they can’t afford? Yup... I heard a married white male, retired from military, say that living with less than $75,000 a year is very difficult. What are you spending your money on folks? I could live for 4 years off $75,000.
?? a full time jub is at minimum 35 hours a week and with a usual 47 work weeks that is 1645 hours of work a year and with 12 dollars an hour that will be 19740 dollars a year. i dont knowe where my math is wrong and i am not even looking at the part time job because guessing how many hours that entails.
forgetting the responsiblity to care for students? when did you last job required you to answer many questions, make somebody understand something, make someone passes the test, huh? you think those teacher only works at their office hours? you are one of those failed student that blames school because you refused to listens and now paying the consequences eh? fock off!
So you saying the American dream is dead? She most likely has a college education, she works full time, and yet can't make ends meet. She's doing everything right from what she was probably told when she was younger. What's your point here?
Sounds like she should sit in on a finance course. Are we really complaining about 39000 a year plus benefits. By the way if her state is like mine she will retire making over 80k. With some of the most coveted benefits left in the country. If she wants to make more she should be lobbying against her union.
They were asking for a $10,000 raise and $3.3 billion in funding. Gov. Fallin offered them a $6,100 raise and 2.9 billion funding. After ending the 9 day strike, they are getting what was initially offered before the walkout.
Maybe teaches are paid the lowest in the country because we are also one of the cheapest states to live in. You can't compare a teachers salary here to one in California. That's stupid. Also maybe they are paid the lowest because according to Forbes we are ranked 42nd in education. I support pay raises for teachers who have earned it and have shown they excel in their job. That is not all teachers tho. Also I knew when I was in high school 20 years ago they didn't get paid much. You did it for the kids. So you knew damn well what you were getting into.
That doesnt excuse the fact that they are raising the next generation of kids in education and cant afford to get by. 35k in OK is still not that much. Like the teacher said, she has to work 30 extra hours a week to make ends meet.
Like I said, I support teachers pay increase BASED ON PERFORMANCE. I do not support what they are asking for. Which is 3.3 billion. We can't afford that. They are fking crazy.
"So you knew damn well what you were getting into." OH REALLY. So teachers should have magically predicted that idiots like you would vote in morons who would freeze their pay for ten years? "BASED ON PERFORMANCE" So, you advocate SHITTY standarized tests, cause that's really working out well, isn't it? No Child Left Behind was a huge success, right? "Which is 3.3 billion." No you dumbass liar, it's about 200m. The amount you dipshits and the people you elect stole from the education budget in the last ten years.
Their pay stagnated because we supposedly hit a recession as a nation. Altho I do remember voting to pass the lottery thing here. I guess that's not good enough tho. As far as standardized tests.... yeah cuz that's totally what I base my kids and teachers performance on. Nothing else. Last but not least is the 3.3 billion. If I'm wrong on that I'm sorry, but I saw it on the news. 3.3 billion over 3 years is what it said. I seriously doubt they'd just flat out lie about that on the freaking news. As far as the 200 million I'm pretty sure that was what was already offered. I know my town received 3 million alone on top of a 5k raise for new teachers and 9k for the older ones and 66% still walked out. That was in the email we received from the superintendent of the public schools here.
If your not in ag or the oil industry in OKLAHOMA state then your not making any kind of decent wage hence I finished college and bailed out of OK. state in late 90s.
Were you expecting her to be starving and living in a lean-to on the sidewalk? Lol. The point is she doesn't think she's getting paid enough for all the work she's doing, and I agree with her. Other people live cushy lives and still have way more money than her.
people saying that she should just switch careers is interesting because I think it portrays their perception of teaching as more of job and rather than a career I personally think teaching should be as prestigious a career as medicine rather than a job like a cashier, as they build the foundations for the future just as medicine preserves the present wouldn't it be better to raise pay giving qualified individuals incentive to go into teaching thus creating more competition like in medicine rather the current perception of the occupation as something you fail into
The pay scale of career or job should be based on what the market will pay for it. Since the government took over education they killed the market. Also, since schooling is offered for free to the public and paid for by taxpayers, it is easy for parents and students to take it for granted. Because it is an entitlement it has lower perceived value.

I love Mrs.
Thanks sweetheart
Omg this is my history teacher!! I'm so proud of her for standing up for what's right. Being a teacher is a hard job and education deserves so much more it's just so extremely important, it's also hard to be a student in Oklahoma with huge class sizes and no textbooks but hopefully we can eventually change that for the better
Okay so what happened in the end?
The unnoticed teacher giving their all to help students excel...I just wanna say thank you to those kind of teachers..I appreciate what you do
50 Stitches Steel Thank you for your kind and supportive words.

IamCancer624 they don't get 60k... did you watch the video?
Iamcancer624 - hey stupid, virtually no Oklahoma teacher is paid $60k, which also isn't the national average (it's lower),

@Jacob Garrison, where are you getting this information? It's highly inaccurate and outdated.
I don't know any other country where teachers work at 2 jobs. It is nonsense even for such a poor country as Russia.
She has three jobs to be correct.

Most schools are funded but property taxes which Texas has which are higher than OK

2:00 work at a Convenience store and make more money than a teacher? 40k a year is about 25 an hour.... Youre not making that at a convenient store
Doubtful she makes that much money. 30K is a lot more realistic. In Lawton that is, it's not exactly the beat place in the world. Also lots of teachers easily work 10 hours daily, so it's not that much of an exaggeration.
The Critic I woudlnt say a convenience store, or just a regular employee, but possibly a manager could be making that money.
Aeroldoth3--- Yeah having weekend and summers off must suck
(This means its 9% lower cheaper to live anywhere else then the rest of the country.)
So taking the average teacher salary of Kansas. 47,464. Minus the Oklahoma state teacher average salary 44,128. =3,336
With the increase of daily live compared to each state, the increase of pay is worth nothing.
To this teacher, thank you for all you do, from bottom of our heart.
i’m a student at bartlesville high school. i participated in the BHS walkout. this interview was an eye opener and shows that change isn’t just something that happened in the past or is happening somewhere else. change is happening NOW and ANYONE can be a part of it.

Shut up kid, if you were my son and you walked out of school I’d beat your ass boy.
Good for you Corbin!! If you were my kid I'd praise you up and down, show you off, and then have Lance arrested for beating kids.
I love this lady she works so hard for her kids and students I feel so bad for everybody
wow, are there people out there who didn't know Oklahoma is shit?
No education = less air force and arny members.
don't get me wrong teachers deserved to be paid more but the idea that they have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet is just absurd
Youtan Poluo If they have small children then it's not hard to believe. Childcare is extremely expensive.
Youtan Poluo your view is bias and stupid. You think living costs don't go up? God damn, use your fucning head
+Youtan Poluo ***don't get me wrong teachers deserved to be paid more but the idea that they have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet is just absurd***
no its not, its called life...FACT
and these govenremnt teachers are paid 60k a year...FACT
They make twice as much as middle class people do and every year I hear them whine about not being paid enough when government schools are fialing across the nation...FACT
This is what happens in a 100% Republican Controlled State
Democrat. Republican. Doesn't even matter. It's time to realize that.
LOL
"and so do the majority of my peer"
I guess your online school didn't teach what "majority" means, nor to avoid using words you do not understand.
Teaching is only "on it's way out if you are unwise enough to believe an education is comprised of stuffing information into your head."
bengalifob2 Agreed 100% the problem here is being self taught unfortunately will not get you a carreer :/
bengalifob2 You are generalizing teachers and the hard work they put in.
It is not the same. And you will be living minimum wage if you drop out and dont go to college. Not everyone is an entrepreneur.
It's not the teachers fault it's the school board's idiot planning. Ironically they get paid more.
i used to go to a tiny school in oklahoma and it was so underfunded that they let us stop going to school one friday to save money to pay the teachers and pay to keep the school running
(even though we had 2 gyms and they always were squeaky clean and had new floors every year)
keep going teachers, we stand behind you!
OPERATIONS "If she chooses, to have her child be part of extracurricular activities she chooses the associated cost, as well as the cost with her life style."
Really?
No money for teachers and NRA has tons of money. Explains about your country Usa.
Soham Bandyopadhyay no correlation at all. the NRA is not government funded. Teachers are paid by the government. www.quora.com/Where-does-funding-for-the-National-Rifle-Association-NRA-come-from
just stick to the tec support Soham..
Soham Bandyopadhyay god your fucking stupid.
J.T. Tomas I like that stereotype..... that's good one...😎
Soham Bandyopadhyay I honestly don’t get how does the nra have to do with this is a whole different situation
FYI I live in okc and during the walkout we literally didn’t have school for weeks.
I was underpaid once. Know what I did? I went and found a better-paying job, rather than demand that the state steal money for me.
I Live in Oklahoma here's the thing WE DONT HAVE THE MONEY FOR IT we literally do not have the money in the state for it....We will have to take it from mental health and things like that
Pro tip: raise the state income tax on affluent people.
A well paid teacher is a happy teacher, and that means happy students, and that means... Go figure.
+Marshal ***A well paid teacher is a happy teacher, and that means happy students, and that means... Go figure.***
teachers are well paid, they make an AVERAGE 60k a year and yet they whine for more raises well schools across the nation are failing? LMAO
I agree that teachers deserve to be paid more, but lady going to Starbucks every day doesn't help.
Was this lady your teacher? Or how do you know her?
$34,000 is pretty low to live on. I taught High school Physics in Dallas, TX for 3 yrs before quitting in 2016 and started with $45,000 and within a year and half got $7,000 raise. And I thought it was still small. Oklahoma and the other states need to do right by their teachers.
This makes no sense... they have to beg basically to let their state know they are struggling. Amerika is going down.
L A your spelling is very telling as to why America could be struggling.
Proving my point even more, thank you!
America is going down when teachers put earrings in their nose. What next a face tattoo.
Traffic was insane today from this. I’m happy so many people were involved
I'm behind this walk out, I truly wish these teachers the best of walk. Our government doesn't want to pay and give our teachers the right amount and give out less in terms of budget. All they do is point fingers but no action.
I know one teacher who moved from district to district, city to city, and state
to state in the nearly 2 decades she has taught. She went back to college to earn additional degrees and was even certified to teach in Canada, but lacked the money to move there. In all that time, she never got a pay raise. It's not worth it.
She took that “can I speak to the manager?” haircut to the capitol building!
One of the very few times that haircut actually looked good on someone though.
The way the representatives just walk away.... THAT is what is wrong with this country right now. The perfect embodiment of it!
American economics and valuing someone twice was much just because they do something good doesn't work together.
下佐粉ケイ
Actually if they all left the state, the teachers who stayed or others who move in would be paid tremendously, because of a higher demand for teachers.
William Willis That’s B.S. and you know it. Even if schools were perpetual short-staffed, the remaining teachers wouldn’t be payed more because a lack of financial resources isn’t the only problem here! The board takes all the money for themselves because teachers are powerless to do anything about it!
下佐粉ケイ so they are yelling and screaming about government officials, instead of the over bloated school staff?
How do you fire "bad teachers" when there is a nation-wide teacher shortage?
Though don't you think $35k is abysmal for a college educated professional, and the fact they often don't get raises and benefits in OK.
I left teaching in American public schools 3 years ago! I moved to China to teach.... and now I own my own English Language Center! I LOVE teaching! However the system pushed me away!
Have fun eating people's pets at the yulin festival.
You are right, I made more in Korea than this lady makes, and I didn't have an education degree.
lol you don't make more than 42K a year in a convenience store. This story is full of exaggerations
The keyword is "average". Some areas pay much less than others.
Oklahoma Tribes have contributed 7.2 BILLION in gaming revenue to the OK school system. Where'd the money go?
Probably the colleges. Just like where that lottery money went when we passed that crap. I think there is a lot of money going to places and pockets it shouldn't be.
What always happens in any State when they bring in the lottery/casinos/marijuana saying it will fund schools. They send the revenue from that to the schools and then cut an equal amount from the school's existing budgets and send it elsewhere. So when that 7.2 billion comes in, they take 7.2 billion from the other funding sources and send it elsewhere.
@@soloryn02 Exactly! And no one else bothered to figure that out when all this went down. It's insane.
because its all about the children, so give me more money, full medical/dental and retirement packages where my contribution is zero. you know, for the children.
Goodbye.... 👎👎👎👎👎
Why does she drive a gas guzzling SUV?? It's a family of three!!
also has a apple watch
a mac computer w/ editing software
photography equipment
gymnastic classes for her kid
last time I checked photography is more of hobby than a career given the fact that everyone has a camera on them, and even then people don't really pay you that much. looks to me she invested too much into the equipment and is paying back debt because of it.
The cost of living in Oklahoma is very cheap
They have every right to walk. Give 'em a raise.
Education, more like indoctrination
now thats just stupid
Not just teachers need better wages ,this whole country NEEDS BETTER WAGES FOR EVERYONE!!
Rmulberger teaching is way different than delivering packaged goods.
No inflationary increase for ten years
Well, they care about their students.
I am with you in spirit today Lindsey Stuart!
Holy hot damn this got your boy teary eyed af!!!
She's beautiful!!!! God bless her heart!
"that close to poverty" hah thats so funny
like i feel her but that was soo wrong
natalie nunez
New York teachers average 75k , Massachusetts average 73k a year
Within surrounding states
Texas averages 31k-44k depending on experience.
Kansas is around 48k-49k
New Mexico is 47k-48k
Colorado is over 49k
Arkansas is from 44k-47k
And lastly Missouri averages at 47k-53k
Agreed. She can even afford to send her kids to gymnastic. I would kill to have the lifestyle she has.
You don't think one of the most important jobs (needs to be done well for the vitality of the country) is worthy of a middle class wage?
They dont get payed for the full year though.
Umm did we watch the same video? Average American salary is over $50,000 a year. She gets paid in the $40,000 range. Lmfao stop lying just for likes.
semen demon yes and her compensation package includes benefits and pension that is more valuable than the 10k she misses in salary. Just looking at salary doesn't tell you how much she is actually getting especially when you know how generous her pension, health care and other benefits are likely to be
BINGO!
What convenience store pays more than 30,000 and who cannot survive on that. I'm all for teachers and others being payed more. I raised two kids and their mother with about 25k/yr. People be spending.
Thats what you get without the father around.🙄
No place seems to be mentioning that this strike lasted 2 weeks. (Maybe not for all schools but for mine it did)
We had so many great teachers that I loved leave for different jobs or different states. And power to them but I will miss them.
She works 9 months out of the year. Works 7 hours a day teaching as stated by her. Gets full benefits and a pension when she retires. All those benefits add up. She’s making on average $27 an hour. Another example of people trying to take more money at the expense of everyone else.
Thats what I was wondering. Don't teachers get really great benefits. She's just not living within her means is what it seems like.
so what do surrounding states make if she makes $27 an hour?
Yes! People seem to forget they don't even work as much as the average American. Must be nice not working a 12 hour day and having weekends and spring break off....
Malissah B this comment is what's wrong with oklahoma and why they are leaving to surrounding states that pay appropriately. So why do all the other states seem to find teaching important and not oklahoma?
minibullet91 how did you calculate that? This is why we need good teachers. 🤕
Abolish the department of education!
That is crazy! Teachers deserve more pay! Teachers are raising our future!! Their job is so important!! The children deserve funding for supplies they need, and they deserve a building that isn't falling apart, that's safe structurally!
They get the whole summer off! This is ridiculous.
They don't get paid the same salarys during the summer, smart ass. They get a reduced rate around 40% of their wage paid through employment insurance that they pay into the remainder of the year.
Do you not know what a yearly salary is?
You're an idiot. My mother in law is a teacher, i think im informed on how they get paid. Thanks for the dumb question though.
So clearly, no, you don't know what a yearly salary is.
Nick Guizz
Some of the schools in Oklahoma are year round
Low pay is fine when the living cost is low. But that's no longer the case. I've seen schools where half the teachers quit and went to work in the state prison because it paid far more and there was no lesson planning to do.
situation sucks but complaining about not being paid enough and wearing an apple watch is counter productive....
Maybe it is a Chinese knock off.
Maxime Charron Husbands are making 200K plus in oil industry. They conveniently leave that part out. And thier generous benefit and retirement packages.
Could've been a gift.
she makes plenty, she does freelance work too and owns a home
They never mention how Oklahoma has one of the lowest cost of living.
Equals about....... Is what I said. I made 21,421 taxed earnings with 2 jobs, that payed 12 an hour, says my social security statement.
geez, thank God I'm not an American
forgetting the responsiblity to care for students? when did you last job required you to answer many questions, make somebody understand something, make someone passes the test, huh? you think those teacher only works at their office hours? you are one of those failed student that blames school because you refused to listens and now paying the consequences eh? fock off!
So get an education.
You can't fix education without fixing the demographics, same with healthcare.
Looks like you are living way above your income.
komer west We know she not paying for Gym membership
So you saying the American dream is dead? She most likely has a college education, she works full time, and yet can't make ends meet. She's doing everything right from what she was probably told when she was younger. What's your point here?
The point is how can one NOT survive in Oklahoma on 50k per/year? She's got a nice iwatch
Finally somebody said it.
"So you knew damn well what you were getting into."
OH REALLY. So teachers should have magically predicted that idiots like you would vote in morons who would freeze their pay for ten years?
"BASED ON PERFORMANCE"
So, you advocate SHITTY standarized tests, cause that's really working out well, isn't it? No Child Left Behind was a huge success, right?
"Which is 3.3 billion."
No you dumbass liar, it's about 200m.
0:59 yet wears an Apple Watch
maybe it was a gift? can people not have nice things?
BassRacerx >Claim to be poor
>wear expensive items
>You’re not poor
In case you haven't noticed... She has a second job. And apple watch is not that expensive.
Were you expecting her to be starving and living in a lean-to on the sidewalk? Lol. The point is she doesn't think she's getting paid enough for all the work she's doing, and I agree with her. Other people live cushy lives and still have way more money than her.
It’s an Apple Watch, not a Patek Phillipe :-0
people saying that she should just switch careers is interesting because I think it portrays their perception of teaching as more of job and rather than a career
I personally think teaching should be as prestigious a career as medicine rather than a job like a cashier, as they build the foundations for the future just as medicine preserves the present
wouldn't it be better to raise pay giving qualified individuals incentive to go into teaching thus creating more competition like in medicine rather the current perception of the occupation as something you fail into
The pay scale of career or job should be based on what the market will pay for it. Since the government took over education they killed the market. Also, since schooling is offered for free to the public and paid for by taxpayers, it is easy for parents and students to take it for granted. Because it is an entitlement it has lower perceived value.
Is that why most people are vapid idiots these days? They certainly haven't been building quality foundations for our children.
