I use to use craftsman exclusively, however they have quit honoring the lifetime warranty. A couple of years ago, I tried to take in a ratchet and got the run around. After the second store that sells craftsman said the numbers have to match and they don't have that number, of course because the broken one is from about 1975. I went to Harbor Freight and started replacing broken tools with Pittsburgh. The Quinn screwdrivers are better than craftsman ever was. I swapped out 2 broken Pittsburgh wrenches today no hassle walked in and cashier said go get a new one

harbor freights customer service is excellent and they make warranty replacements easier than anyone. I also love that the stores are not huge and I can literally walk up and down every aisle and not feel overwhelmed but there's plenty to see and convince myself that I need! It's my favorite store

Lowes doesn’t warranty vintage craftsman tools, only tools made after the buyout and provided the store carry’s them. Some stores will let you find the closest model available and swap it. But bottom line Lowe’s 100% will warranty any craftsman tool they sell and if it’s something they don’t have, like some newer v series, Craftsman themselves warranty the item no questions asked. Speedy delivery also!

When I bought my craftsman tools nothing excluded vintage wrenches. In fact back then I replaced a couple very old wrenches. I don't have anything craftsman anymore. It's all harbor freight and it's all quality and no problem swapping out

@@6atlantis wow really? This really makes me not want to reinvest into any craftsman tools. so all my old screwdrivers i bought 10 years ago i cant warranty?

@@pkdude5334 yeah, ive never had any issues with HF. I have warrantied at least 3 tools there and each time they were like just go get a new one off the shelf and had to scan it for their records and out the door I went. 0 issues.

I have worked on tractors, trailers, and reefers for 16 years now in a Fleet environment. When I first started Pittsburg was not good so I had to go with higher quality entering the tool trucks better known as the devil's den. They were convenient for warranty but you were going to pay dearly. It was appealing rather than having to drive to Sears to warranty Craftsman. Fast forward to now the tool trucks are not only pushing their own stuff they're overcharging for Dewalt, Milwaukee, and have even seen Pittsburg bit sets that are $10 at HF being marked up to $100. I'm not even kidding. Today, I don't buy from the trucks much at all unless it's Redback boots or some specialty tool that's reasonably priced. HF is light years better than 16 years ago. You get a lifetime warranty with better stuff than years past and it turns nuts and bolts. If you need to warranty Snappy, Mac,or Matco you have to wait for them to show up if they do that week or mail it to the company warranty dept. If it turns nuts and bolts and does the job then who cares what name is on it. You can't buy skills. I know some techs that can use junk tools and run circles around the guy with prestigious tools.

The backwards switch between icon and Pittsburg can mess with your OCD. They’re both good tools.

I have the 3/8s icon flex head and its my favorite ratchet. I do have the flex head pittsburgh pro 1/2 and it feel very nice. The pittsburgh pro stuff has been pretty good. The 3/8s deep sockets are awesome too.

What about your time and money driving to HF to swap out two bad Pittsburgh ratchets? The Icon is the better value in the long run. If Craftsman was still honoring their lifetime warranty then the choice would be quite simple, CRAFTSMAN all the way..

Does that mean you will be reviewing these tools on your channel? Sweet, I brought all Pittsburgh Roto head ratchets. I haven't used them on the job yet!!! I would like to know how well they test? It would give me an idea how long they work out. Thank you and Again thank you Poor Man Mods for reviewing

Icon is better value. Icon can last you a lifetime if you use them how they're supposed to be used.

honestly you can same the same for the pittsburgh. I have those exact tools when i used them as a Diesel mechanic and still have them and they work the same as they did the day I bought them. that being said, I have only ever used them as intended. I never cheater pipe my ratchets.

Habor freight automotive hand tools have gone the craftsman route. Way too expensive. I have swapped to tools off Amazon myself.

really you think HF is too expensive?

    • @easycomeeasygo8901

@@PoorManMods well maybe that was to harsh and too general statement. I used to go in harbor freight like a kid in a candy store. Yes there are still deals to be had. But as usual, as the years passed the prices went up. To the point were walmart now is cheaper half the time. And if its not in Walmart you can order it from their website. Hand tool prices have gone up too. Yes still light years cheaper then matco or snap on. Pittsburgh stuff is still a bargain over most craftsman. My prices might not be up to date but I remember buying a nice metal case 1/2 in drive deep socket set for 21.00 vs the craftsman one 5*.**. So great savings there. No more nice metal cases unfortunately. 2 months ago when I went in I was tag shocked on the icon prices. At that point, for me, it will be cheaper to buy the other Chinese stuff off Amazon and replace as needed. Dam the warrentee. I'm just a backyard mechanic/enthusiasts. And once they ban me from gas, or working on my car, or stop making parts, there by forcing me into a ev. I won't need any of this stuff any way. Lets not get to political though, lol. I don't think I'm over reacting too much.
