Definitely one of the best. Everything he plays perfectly fits in the song. Great touch, fantastic groove, he doesn't add unnecessary stuff, so professional and talented. He is definitely in my top 5 favourite bass players.
Lol.i know you re playing it safe. I respect that.thats the sign of a great analyst of music. .never saying who the best this and the best that is.goodwisdom
Well, there are so many.. but he is very young and he plays in a way that is unique.. I don’t believe people know how to maximize the use of the instrument.. he doesn’t over-play but he gets everything out of his instrument and completely adds to the song 💯without distracting or subtracting. He is the bomb!
It's amazing to see Matthew play and the notes and not clash with the harmony. In Kirk's style, it fits perfectly. It's lucky that Kirk gives this opening to practically play almost like solo bass, a fact that it's hard for us bassists to convince the music producer that the bass can go beyond the granted limit. In Christian churches we are in a phase where the bass has become very limited musically, thanks to Kirk the bass is still alive.
Respectfully, the bass is not limited especially where "Urban" gospel is played. Sharay Reed, Andrew Gouche, Justin Raines, Fred Hammond, Terrence Palmer, Darrell Freeman, Alan Snoop Evans, Maurice Fitzgerald, Tony Russell, Bryan B-dub White, Thaddeus Johnson and Thad Tribbett just to name a few have been and continue to blaze basses every time they plug up. The bass has been unleashed for decades in a lot of places. That being said, it is always best to play for the song, so every song doesn't require flashy playing. The bass hasn't been and isn't limited.
@@lee399 Hello friend, your post on the topic is very good. At first I don't know if you understood my point, I didn't mean "if the bass is limited", which I point out is that in some styles, "Worship" style music producers greatly limit the bass technique, leaving its role only playing tonics and not having this versatility. Here in Brazil this style has been in this paradigm for years. There are groups here that are wanting to break out of this vicious circle and revive old songs where the bass has more technical prominence. I'm an admirer of Jaco Pastorius, if in his time he did everything in a modern way, imagine today how much the bass has evolved technically. Thank you for the List of Bassists you sent. Greetings.
@@phperfoncio greetings. Thank you for your reply and further explanation. I always prefer non text conversations because other fa tors are brought out so understanding is much easier 😁 Now I understand your earlier statement better and yes, some worship producers styles do tend to have the bass playing less (and only tonic) notes. I enjoy Brazil's approach to bass, it is melodic while still holding the bottom. It's pleasant to reach an understanding in an internet 'conversation'. "Keep it Low" my bass friend!
That dude made that bass sing🔥🔥🔥🔥
Man- he’s so lyrical, not just rhythm, and harmony- real singing lines. Love this perspective. Oh yeah, can we talk articulations…. Damn🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Word! His lines are so dynamic, I want to emulate it in my own playing.
