Why are you changing the diaphragm clutch spring? Is your clutch slipping? Maybe, I don’t know, but maybe the Vmax clutch springs or a drop in the fit and would resolve your clutch slippage problems. I don’t know but it’s worth looking into if you’re having clutch slippage..
i’ve never had to work on any of my three Venture motorcycles clutches. I know that when the first generation 1200 CC ventures were upgraded to 1300 CC. They also upgraded the clutch in 1986 through the end of that version I think it ran until 1993 or 1992.. The upgrade was to fit the diaphragm type clutch from the Vmax directly to what was called the Yamaha venture royale. They made some changes like top loading on the saddlebags, larger trunk, they revised the oiling for second and fifth gear, and they upgraded the clutch..
when I was road racing Yamaha RD’s. I did a don Vesko port job to an RD 350. And the power was increased after that port job. Resulting in the clutch slipping mercilessly. I ended up putting washers how about the thickness of a nickel under the clutch springs to give the clutch springs more pressure on the clutch plates. And that worked very well. I only needed the clutch for the start of the race usually, and I did not touch the clutch during the race usually. But before I shimmed that clutch, that clutch would let go and just slip mercilessly when the engine hit power band.
One little tip that was a Honda bullet and when I was a Honda mechanic at a Honda/Yamaha motorcycle shop in the 70s
your clutch cover gasket stuck to the cover and part of it stuck to the engine cases. That’s very common and a pain in the butt, and gaskets are unbelievably expensive these days. About 12 years ago I went to buy a side cover paper gasket for my KLR 650 Kawasaki dual sport. That gasket was $58..
so - behind the bulletin that we got in the service department was to buy a can of rust oleum aluminum paint. Do not stir the paint. When you have any paper gasket that goes on dry, gets a screwdriver or some thing to dig into that can of paint and get the thick goo from the bottom of the can, work that go into your dry paper gasket, and put the gasket where it’s supposed to go while it is still wet with that aluminum impregnated paint. That gasket will not leak, and it will not stick to either surface. I have been doing that for almost 50 years now on all my paper gaskets, and I have never had one stick to either surface..I still have that quart of rustoleum aluminum silver paint That I bought in 1973. It is now 2022 and I still have that same can that I use for applying to paper gaskets

You said it exactly, I did an upgrade, greater friction control and tightened up everything so that maneuverability is much improved. Thanks for comments.
