Everything linked with the Alien creature was designed by Swiss artist H.R. Giger, my all time favourite artist, who sadly died a few years ago. But he made an undeniable impact on cinema
Plus, it's not even salary. It's commission. They have shares. Work's alot like the Traveller TTRPG where players can buy shares in a ship, and earn percentage of its profit. It also motivates these ore miners to make sure they get quality ore and as much as possible, so that they make more money for their efforts. I'd certainly rather get 5% cut from 20 million in cargo, than 10 for my efforts spending years in cryo and away from earth.
I was 16 when I saw it twice in '79. My girlfriend was petrified, but I thought it was so awesome. For that most wonderful time in my life, and how great it was, it's probably my favorite film of all time.
Ah, Alien, i watched it in theaters when it came out back in 79, i was 10 at that time, i wasnt just scared, i was really terrified, and it was a terror that lasted for weeks... you know, i miss the 70's...
Jones, also referred to as Jonesy, was a cat kept aboard the USCSS Nostromo as Ellen Ripley's pet. While the cat's official purpose was to control rodents aboard the ship, he also served as a source of relaxation and entertainment for the crew like a theory animal. So, this was the reason why a cat was brought into outer space. Yeah, see the difference between them and me I'll pass up my paycheck I'll go get a new job I'm not putting my life at risk for exploring an unknown world and secondly as soon as I saw that face hugger on that guy's face, I would have been gone I would have stolen the shuttle and left with a cat. The Spaceship gets explained in Prometheus which is the origin and the start of all of these movies. Alien Movies in (Chronological) Order AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) ... It's so satisfying seeing newer generations react to this movie. I saw it when it first came out and I was about 10 (we got it a bit later than the US). Great reaction.
The only thing that doesn't make sense - the fact they need to 'prep' the escape shuttle. Having to prepare your emergency escape vehicle before you can use it isn't very logical in an emergency. But then, that could probably be explained as Weyland-Yutani being cheap.

"Maybe it hatched some eggs inside him." Of all the reactions to this movie I've seen you are the first to express something so sensible. Your big failure was not scanning the inside of Kane's body when the alien left him to die. Any scientist would have related that to implanting an egg or embryo inside the host. Although of course, we now know that the one scientist on board had other plans.
The planet is called LV-426. It is a lot farther than a Saturn moon. Kind of why they are required to go to any rescue, because it could possibly take months or even years for the next ship to get there.

Next is arguably the greatest sequel and the greatest sci-fi monster movie ever made, Aliens. Be sure you watch the Special Edition to get the full experience
Not unlike the Terminator series, the first two films are amazing and then it's a mixed bag after that. I do think Terminator 3 is much more enjoyable to watch than Alien 3 though.
Hey, Sophie! This is one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time! I prefer the original THEATRICAL CUT you saw because I feel it's paced better and lacks a scene which contradicts the sequel. However, the Director's Cut boasts a moment when Veronica Cartwright smacks the cr@p out of Sigourney Weaver which definitely SHOULD HAVE BEEN in the Theatrical Cut! Despite preferring the Theatrical Cut for the first movie, there is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION that you must watch the SPECIAL EDITION with longer runtime of the sequel, "ALIENS"!!!!!!! There are critical additional scenes that add context to the movie and it is the version director James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver themselves prefer. Director Ridley Scott kept the entire cast in the dark about the famous CHESTBURSTING scene except for John Hurt. Their reactions were absolutely genuine and mirrored the audience's response! Veronica Cartwright got sprayed by fake blood and fell over backward. They only filmed the scene twice. It remains one of the most ICONIC IN CINEMA HISTORY! The PACING is deliberately slow at the beginning to acquaint the audience with the ship's geography, to demonstrate authentic-looking space travel and maneuvers, to familiarize the audience with the crew, to establish the threat posed by the creature and to generate suspense with the mystery of the derelict craft. There's a lot of rich character humor and foreshadowing in those crew interaction scenes as well as a subtext about this future society being a corporate dystopia. "Alien" is set in the year 2122. This movie and "Star Wars" changed the future aesthetic from antiseptic cleanliness to lived-in, worn-out dinginess. The smoking is meant to convey that space travel has become commonplace enough that it is the province of workaday laymen. The Swiss artist, H.R. GIGER, who designed the xenomorph, tapped into insectoid and reptilian features that evoke primal fear. His artwork is very bizarre, erotic and has a distinctive look called Giger-esque. The final product is an iconic movie monster that is pure NIGHTMARE FUEL! The creature's life-cycle and biology is explored throughout the series. By the way, the alien's retractable inner jaw is found in nature in a deep-sea fish! THE WEYLAND-YUTANI COMPANY is an international conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar travel and terra-forming. They have a stake in every colony world and are basically the 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. They are a ruthless corporation looking to exploit or weaponize the xenomorph for profit regardless of the negative consequences. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of all the Alien movies. In the "AvP" films, you actually meet the company founders before their merger, Mr. Weyland and Ms. Yutani. This crew is not a group of explorers, scientists or colonists. They're just SPACE TRUCKERS hauling rocks. This was a First Contact situation they were wholly unqualified for. Hence, all the bumbling and bad judgment calls. Their chief concerns were company policy and pay inequity. Ripley was the only one with the willingness to make difficult command decisions that would have saved all their lives except for Kane's had she not been undermined by Ash. Of course, Ash was privy to a secret corporate mandate. Like most Captains, Dallas had an inherently CALM DEMEANOR. By minimizing the situation, it prevents both him and the crew from panicking. You can tell he's very worried because he seeks counsel from Mother. He also acknowledges his culpability for the predicament by preventing Ripley from volunteering to go into the shafts and by shouldering that burden himself. He accepted this task not even knowing if fire would be effective! His last act is a rather valiant gesture and I always feel bad for him despite his initial missteps. Parker is MY FAVORITE supporting character! Yaphet Kotto played him to the hilt! He's the blue collar EVERYMAN who just cares about payday and who enjoys deliberately antagonizing his superiors but ends up sacrificing himself for a fellow employee. He's also the only one who made a move on the chestburster before being stopped by Ash! Some viewers strongly believe the alien raped Lambert! This is nonsense. The PREHENSILE TAIL probably drew her closer to itself so it could mouth-punch her with the retractable jaw. Those viewers aren't mistaken for perceiving phallic eroticism, though, as that was Scott's intent. The giant elephant-headed alien pilot of the derelict spacecraft is one of the GREAT MYSTERIES of the franchise. Was he a zoologist, a bio-warfare specialist, an exterminator, a trader in exotic organisms, a waste disposal tech or a trucker like Ripley's crew? No one knows. Sigourney Weaver became a FEMINIST ICON because of this movie. Ripley is one in a long line of strong female characters that have been showcased in sci-fi and fantasy dating back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars, in 1912! There's not a man I know who wouldn't follow Ripley into hell. You must see the SPECIAL EDITION of "Aliens" and the ASSEMBLY CUT of "Alien 3" because those versions greatly enhance both films. If you intend to see the "ALIEN vs. PREDATOR" films, then you need to acquaint yourself with the PREDATOR franchise. The first is an action classic with Schwarzenegger. Danny Glover's underrated urban-set "Predator 2" features some memorable set pieces and adds more lore. Dark Horse comics explored the crossover concept inspiring Hollywood to make two crossover films with moderately successful to excellent results. They're fun and exciting guilty pleasures with the second one, "ALIENS vs. PREDATOR: REQUIEM", being particularly lean and mean. There is also a "PREDATORS" film produced by Robert Rodriguez that is definitely worth a look. "THE PREDATOR" (2018) REBOOT, however, should be considered extremely optional as it nearly killed the franchise! "PREY" is an excellent 18th-century-set prequel to the original film that was released on Hulu! The Alien films have a RICHER SUBTEXT while the Predator films are more ACTION FARE but they're both fun sci-fi thrillers. Regarding the smoking on the ship: when I first saw this, in 1979, the crew smoking on the Nostromo barely registered with me. Now, though, when I see it again, I find it jarring. Still love this movie, though. My all-time favorite.
We used to smoke in airplanes. I'm a Mission Crew Commander Air Battle Manager on AWACS and even they still have built in ashtrays courtesy of the US Air Force.
14:55 "Honestly, they're just dumb." No, they're not. Don't just handwave "they're just dumb" as an easy explanation; the writing in this movie is too good, it doesn't deserve that. They had to explore the planet and alien ship or they would be broke and homeless at the end of the trip. They didn't have to bring the alien on board but the science officer decided to. CAPTAIN Dallas explained that the rules of their company give Ash, the science officer, complete authority here. If they throw the dead alien "out the window" they will all be fired AND lose 3.5 years of pay. No choice. These are smart people. Ordinary, but smart. Not dumb. They are mostly making good decisions (Lambert panics a lot but some humans actually do panic a lot, so it's believable that one of them is like that). In some regards, they have no choice. In some situations, they make smart decisions based on what they know so far, but it doesn't always work out. That's what makes this movie so awesome. Any Jr. High kid can write a story about a monster that kills dumb people. There are thousands of stories just like that and they're all very forgettable. This movie is 45 years old now and still a huge fan favorite because of GREAT writing. The people here are ordinary space truckers with little science training, but they still make mostly smart decisions and figure things out quite well. If not for a magical movie monster and an enemy within, and maybe one less panicky crew member, they would have been fine.
Everybody in 2024 asks "are you allowed to smoke on a spaceship." In 1979, passengers could smoke in airplanes, even with two strangers packed into the seats next to you. If you went to a restaurant in 1979, half the people in there would be smoking and you got to enjoy second hand smoke with your meal. n 1990, San Luis Obispo, California became the first city in the world to restrict indoor smoking in bars and restaurants. The U.S. Department of Transportation also banned smoking on all commercial passenger flights in 1998. So when this movie was made, smoking indoors or even in tiny little airplanes was normal. This is a big spaceship. If you are worried that they will pollute the air and be unable to breathe, the CO2 they exhale with every breath will do that way, way faster than cigarette smoke. They have air filters to keep the air breathable (NASA invented that in the 1960s). The cigarettes probably mean they need 16 filters for this voyage instead of 15 - it's really not a big problem. But smoking is tied to feeling relaxed, relieving stress, so I'm sure many companies in the 1970s, including the one that owns the Nostromo, would pay for an extra filter to keep the crew stress-free.

Their werent very many female role models in the 70s, then Ripley came along. As someone pointed out to me at a different reaction and it was originally meant to be a male. But thankfully they took a chance and made the character of Ripley female. Best decision they ever made. Unfortunately it would not be to continue is there still is not that many female role models in Hollywood today. But I love how with Ripley she was able to remain female and emotional and still be in charge and work through it. She didn't have to act like a man, be crazy or be a b****. Paging game of thrones. So she was a realistic character. Definitely watch Aliens. it's actually my favorite sequel of all time and I think better than the first one. But thats justbmy own opinion. It was hugely successful and made some people vomit in the theaters when it came out.
These Aliens don't have any eyes to see with but an extraordinary sense of smell that they use to detect where things are by their scent. They can smell your fear and your confidence and when Ripley arranged to have the pod shuttle deployed the alien could smell her confidence at escaping where it was blocking her from entering, so it was logical for the alien to hide where it's prey thought it would be safe, in the escape shuttle.

Everything linked with the Alien creature was designed by Swiss artist H.R. Giger, my all time favourite artist, who sadly died a few years ago. But he made an undeniable impact on cinema
3:23 young Bilbo looks very serious
7:00 If they don't investigate, they don't get paid. On a trip that takes months, if not years. This is not just a month's salary.
@@ElderonAnalas indeed.
Glad you are watching it. Great movie and sequel too.
I cannot WAIT for the Aliens reaction

The new Alien movie, Alien: Romulus, has the same level of threat and dread as the first movie. So brilliantly done.
Nah. It relies too much on nostalgia from Alien, and the last half is a visually overstuffed mess appealing to generations suffering from severe "video saturation".
@@GCKelloch Sorry. Great movie. I and many critics stand by that.
@@stephendavis5530 "Great" is in the eye of the beholder. Critics often disagree. Roger Ebert initially gave Alien a thumbs down, but later wrote more reviews and eventually considered it one of the best Sci-fi flicks ever made. It had the mystery and restraint modern CG action films lack.
@@GCKelloch We maybe could have done without all the silly "fan service", but that's largely a quibble really. The movie grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Can't wait for it to stream on Disney Plus.

You know what just crossed my mind ? When they first see the spaceship it looks like a Giant Horse Shoe. Which brings me back to back to Giant Trojan Horse attack war .
In a novel, this is not a spaceship, but a piece of orbital station of an unknown race.
@@vlsext what I'm saying when you first see it , it gives off that certain vibe.
@@guitarman8462 Sure thing. 🙂🤝
@vlsext the giant Trojan Horse no one new what was in until all the soldiers came out to attack. It wasn't a Rescue , it was an Surprise attack just like the eggs.
It's so satisfying seeing newer generations react to this movie. I saw it when it first came out and I was about 10 (we got it a bit later than the US). Great reaction.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Alien movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊
39 lightyears in 10 months! Wow!
The only thing that doesn't make sense - the fact they need to 'prep' the escape shuttle. Having to prepare your emergency escape vehicle before you can use it isn't very logical in an emergency. But then, that could probably be explained as Weyland-Yutani being cheap.
She must see The Thing 1987. Would be a gold reaction
1982?

@@hellinart9316 No worries, you're good! I only know that cause my older sister was born in 82 and I was born in 87. As if I needed any more of reason to love that movie.

Subscribed! I really like that when you were making comments about a particular scene, you reversed back to it and showed it again, so that we would not be frustrated that you talked over the scenes and missed it completely. Do the Alien II also, which is the mother of all sequels that ever made.
3:15 "No, you have to do it actually."
"No money!"
Exactly right.
In about 5-10 minutes you might forget that. Most reactors do. Heck, I probably did when I saw this in the 80s.
Or maybe you won't.

Lambert: "Let's get out of here."
Sophie: "That's a good idea."
Kane: "We must go on."

Lambert: "Let's get the heck out of here."
Sophie: "Exactly. That would be me."

As you said at 3:15 "No money!"
I'll put it in perspective. This trip will take about 3.5 years.
If they do NOT explore, they forfeit all shares.

You work, hard, and maybe even take risks, but get paid NO MONEY for 3.5 years.
What might you be willing to do to avoid having no money for that time?
You will love Aliens.
It's the best sequel after Terminator 2.
Make sure you don't read any spoilers.
MU/TH/UR 9000, the computer controlling the ship.
You can see why the call it "Mother". :)
Mother is clearly the ship’s computer
Check these movies out if you haven’t seen them: Halloween(1978), The Thing(1982), Aliens(1986), Predator(1987), Predator 2(1990), and The Terminator(1984).
"Maybe it hatched some eggs inside him."
Of all the reactions to this movie I've seen you are the first to express something so sensible.
Your big failure was not scanning the inside of Kane's body when the alien left him to die. Any scientist would have related that to implanting an egg or embryo inside the host. Although of course, we now know that the one scientist on board had other plans.
Alien is a classic movie for both science fiction fans and horror fans.
The planet is called LV-426. It is a lot farther than a Saturn moon. Kind of why they are required to go to any rescue, because it could possibly take months or even years for the next ship to get there.
GREAT REACTION! 😁 really enjoyed it! 👍☺
2:03 They had been in cryo a few months at that point. 2:10 The cat was in Ripley's pod with her. 2:20 It's not a matter of them settling for less, it's the position and grade of qualification they hold. 2:30 The year is 2122. 2037 was the interface code. 2:54 The ship's mainframe computer, a MU/TH/UR 6000 model, which they simply call 'Mother'. 4:40 No, they are 39 lightyears from Earth. 5:10 During the landing process the engine intakes pulled up particles that made them overheat and triggered an electrical fire, so the last few feet to the ground were a sudden drop. 6:05 Nope, they're in the open. 7:10 Um, following protocol is why they're there in the first place. 10:38 Direct order from the Captain. 15:26 Why wouldn't they be able to smoke? There's plenty of ventilation and scrubbers. 17:48 Would you rather an open corpse left across the dining table while they search instead? 18:37 Or... they just burned out like he said. 21:48 Liking heat doesn't translate into liking being set on fire... And you missed where they said they rigged up the flamethrower. 24:15 Yep, android from the start. 26:50 The alien was blocking the only way to the shuttle so she tried to stop the countdown to give herself more time.
It really rustles my jimmies the amount of people who read any number and think it's the year
@@bluebirdsigma Yes. Especially when there are words framing those numbers that immediately give context that they are not a year.

Sophie, some people are born to explore. Most never get within a mile of the edge.
Your nose and this movie are two of my favorite things ever. Thanks for making this!

Next is arguably the greatest sequel and the greatest sci-fi monster movie ever made, Aliens. Be sure you watch the Special Edition to get the full experience
The second movie in the series is one of the best sequels ever. Aliens takes this movie and pumps it up, as Spinal Tap would say, to eleven. 😊

Great reaction Sophie! Next movie you should watch is Alien: Romulus. Since it takes place between Alien and Aliens.
thanks for reacting
Not unlike the Terminator series, the first two films are amazing and then it's a mixed bag after that. I do think Terminator 3 is much more enjoyable to watch than Alien 3 though.
I am kinda opposite, like alien 3 as a good film ruined by a studio. And T3 was for me as full studio product for money grabbing
2037 isn’t the year, it’s just the interface.
Hi Sophie hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Hey, Sophie!
Below is a VIEWING ORDER and an INTERNAL CHRONOLOGY:

A nasty detail that many misses: When Ripley discovers the others dead at 26:07, Lamberts body does not have any shoes or pants on...
This is the first time (for me) your accent is noticeable. AL ians vs. A liens.
We used to smoke in airplanes. I'm a Mission Crew Commander Air Battle Manager on AWACS and even they still have built in ashtrays courtesy of the US Air Force. And if people weren't dumb, to some degree, you wouldn't have a movie.
In order to find out if Ripley made it back to Earth you'll have to watch the sequel to this original one called, "Aliens".
Kane should have ordered the soup
A really good Halloween movie to watch is the 1979 version of "Salem's Lot." That movie scared the pants off of me.
14:55 "Honestly, they're just dumb."
No, they're not.
Everybody in 2024 asks "are you allowed to smoke on a spaceship."
In 1979, passengers could smoke in airplanes, even with two strangers packed into the seats next to you.
I Don't know how long it'll take, i wont be around, but eventually we'll be building spacecraft off earth.
I don’t think I’ve seen this movie before, but I know my friends have seen it, so I’ve been looking forward to this reaction even though movies like this one scare me easily! 😱
Sophie, if you're in the mood to watch a light-hearted whimsical animated movie after this horror show I strongly recommend watching "Mune: The guardian of the Moon"
(partly because I haven't found A SINGLE video reaction to it on UA-cam, which really baffled me cuz animation- and story-wise it's pretty damn good)
Their werent very many female role models in the 70s, then Ripley came along. Because you can't go wrong with this one either so there really isn't a wrong answer on which one is better.
This is one of my favorite movies Alien is the best
10:42 seconds BEST REACTION🤣13:51 was pretty good too.16:54 this has to be BEST REACTION IVE SEEN TO THIS SCENE! I saw this movie in '79 in theatres it scared everyone. I know all about this series. Fun fact: They actually did 100%, consciously and verbally, intend to unsettle the male audience with the combination of the facehugger and phallic, skin-toned baby alien, to give men the feeling of being SA'd (they referred to it as "face r***").
They have eyes and eyes sockets lol) its axtually feautring human like part of skull, google alien suit from set 1979. It was just so dark and slimy, that transperent skin on a front of alien head doesnt look like transparent 😅 but yes, its like organical space suite for them) the eyes under the skin
In Alien Romulus when they show dead xeno from the first Alien hanging above the ceiling - they actually showed his forehead with human-like part of the skull (with eye sockets and hole for nose in human)

ALIENS a great sequel
Welcome in the world of Ripley, the second one got more aliens and more action. After that it slowly going done. For me part three is the worst, four is better. But one and two are the best. Sigourney Weaver was also in Ghostbusters and Avatar.
You notice how Lambert was the only crew member hanging naked ? Maybe the alien had never seen a female since it can use male bodies to reproduce .
